ABC remembers Mattie Stepanek - poet & peacemaker - a Potter fan who died at 13 Summary:
Mattie Stepanek touched many people's hearts with his words of peace and love. He was an avid Harry Potter fan like the rest of us and appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, amongst others, where he met Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. He later died due to his muscular dystrophy. In honour of what a great person he was and the tragedy of his death being at such a young age - ABC the TV station have devoted time to remembering him. Article: ABC remembers Mattie Stepanek - poet & peacemaker Good Morning America featured a memorial to Potter-fan, poet, and peacemaker Mattie Stepanek, who tragically died of complications from muscular dystrophy in June.
Many of you will remember him from the Oprah Winfrey Show when Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson appeared to promote CoS and Oprah arranged for Mattie to meet them. Quote: A poet since the age of 3, Mattie started writing in part to help him deal with his disease, which causes generalized muscle weakness and difficulty in regulating such body functions as heart rate and breathing. He used a power wheelchair, ventilator and supplemental oxygen, in addition to other treatments.
His mother, Jeni Stepanek, has a milder, adult-onset form of the disease, but was not diagnosed until her four children were born. Mattie's two brothers and a sister also died of the disease. Source: Good Morning America via The Leaky Cauldron. |

If it helps, the link will take you to a page which has a picture of Mattie. Maybe you'd recognise/remember him with a visual?

Aww... that's sweet of them!
I read a story a bit like this one...
It was a boy (I can't recall his name...) that had a disease... and he lived on the same street as Rupert (I think). He was a big HP fan and Rupert saw in the news paper that the little boy was going to die soon... (And the little boy had went to a HP Premiere) Anyway, Rupert wanted to help so he went to the boy's HOUSE and played with him all day, I think... That would be fun.. Except that your dying...
The boy died a couple days later (or something like that) And the mother thanked Rupert. The boy was sooo happy and past away with a happy past...
It's sad, but.. It was very sweet of Rupert to do that, don't you think?
Well, that was very nice of ABC to do that!!! (Take flowers!)

Both Dan and Rupert do alot for unfortunate kids. Nikki Hyma,s a girl with Down Syndrome, got to visit Dan on set and apparently he was brilliant with her, knew exactly how to approach her and was a gentleman.

Wow, I never actually knew that about Rupert, what a little sweetheart! I wanna hug him now! lol
I never knew who Mattie was until I read a news article on here a few months ago about him, it's so sad, but he will live on in rememberance and in people's hearts.
R.I.P Little man.
