The large freshwater lake of Hogwarts is located just south of the castle. About half a mile wide in diameter, the lake dominates much of the school's landscape, a steely and ominous mass of icy water in the winter, yet an inviting and refreshing sight once the weather starts to heat up. On one of its banks, a towering beech tree stands sentinel, and is a popular location to meet and relax. Castle-side of the lake stands the boathouse.
You may swim in the lake, but be careful, and also mindful of the creatures that reside here. Merpeople, grindylows, and the Great Squid, to name but a few, call these watery depths their home. You would do well to leave them in peace. If they feel like it, they'll come to you; the Giant Squid, who goes by the name of Bartholomew Henry, has been known to bask in the shallows on sunny days. OOC: Please do not RP for the Giant Squid. | |

| I like shiny things.
The sun was out in all its glory. The students were back. It was time for new adventures. It was time to hopefully meet some friendly human faces.
The ancient squid used the usual movement jet propulsion to lazily take himself closer to the shores of the lake just in the vicinity of the fabulously huge beech tree. Now where were the humans? Surely it wouldn’t take one or two incredibly long to notice him?

Walking down towards the lake she gasped at the giant squid chilling by the beech tree, was that normal or was it every now and then? Walking over towards it, Lily was contiguous not to scare it or anything, she didn't know what it'll do if frightened. "Hello Mr. Squid you are a boy squid right? Sorry... I'm new here, I transferred from Ilvermorny. Are you having a good day? Lovely weather here, not quite used to it, back home it'll be getting cold already or snowing. Oh, silly me I'm Lily."
She wondered if the Squid had a name, maybe it did and she didn't know it yet. Well obviously she didn't, she was new here.

Bartholomew would say that his lurking by the beech tree was fairly habitual. It was a good spot in his long-formed opinion. The approaching student need not worry about frightening Bart. His instincts were usually good at sniffing out anyone that possessed ill intentions. Chalk it up to eons of interactions with humans and other creatures alike.

My name is Bartholomew but you may call me Bart.” Trusting that the words answered her initial question, old Barty extended a tentacle for a tentacle-hand shake. “I am having an absolutely serene day, my dear. Is the weather mostly dreary where you live then?”

"Uh-huh, we get snow a lot where I'm from it doesn't get hot like it does here in the summer, only in the 32.2 degrees Celsius which is about 90 in fahrenheit which I'm still not familiar with being from America. I'm from Lake Tahoe California. " She knew most people didn't know where that was at due to not being to the states, but Bart seem very wise so maybe he knew.

With magic, all things both terrible and good were possible. Old Bartholomew was quite certain his ability to speak was of the good sort. “There’s always plenty to discover at Hogwarts.” Bart's dark eyes seemed to twinkle as tentacle and hand shook. “Not all speak human language. Mostly they speak in their own tongues. I believe Hogwarts offers classes on Mermish? “The Lake usually is a great place to let go of tension. Staring at the serene waters really is helpful.” Bart listened attentively being the great listener that he was. "It will take some time for you to adjust but everyday I’m sure you’ll make some degree of it. You must miss this Lake Tahoe.”
