GroundsHave a case of cabin castle fever? Best to take a break from all the stone corridors and go hang out by the lake, or explore the expansive school grounds. Don't forgive to send your regards to Bartholomew Henry!
A dozen white feathered Pekin ducks could be found gracefully swimming or sunning themselves in this pond in this pond. With their orangish-yellow legs and feet and short yellow beak, this particular variety of feathered creatures is among the friendliest of its species you will ever come across.
The rocky ledge surrounding the pond allows you to take a seat. You may even dip your feet into the pristine water if you like, just beware of the ducks wanting to take a nip at your feet for the fun of it. Or maybe they’ve mistaken your toes for a tasty treat? Speaking of treats… have you brought along a snack for these magnificent creatures? While bread is not high in nutritional value for them, they will accept fresh and small pieces of it. Lettuce, oats, seeds and cooked rice will also suffice.
Play nicely with the ducks! While they are social, they will not take kindly to anyone being cheeky with them!
OOC: You are free to RP for the ducks though there should be no serious injuries!
Ducks' Name:
White with black feathers on the tips of its wings - Daffy

Even professors needed breaks.
For that reason Dhruv had finished any pressing matters that fell under their job description before retiring to the duck pond that Friday afternoon. It had been a fairly uneventful first week of the school year but no doubt that was going to change as everyone found themselves back into the groove of things. At least for now there wasn’t homework and essays to be graded.
After folding his trousers just below his knees, the DADA professor stepped into the cool water of the pond. It was their goal to have a seat on the stone edge but that would have to wait for the ducks came swimming up to them instantly. This delighted Dhruv who promptly began chattering with the feathered creatures. “Hello, hello,’’ they said as the ducks gathered around. “Did I bring you any treats you ask? You bet I did.” In a small bag, there were some oats which they now scattered in the water. It was quite a sight to watch the ducks dive for it.

Breaks were always needed and the older Amelia got, the more she revered in taking every last minute.
As soon her potions lesson wrapped up, the older woman headed outside for some fresh air first thinking she would enjoy the autumn breeze with some light flying. However, after exiting the entrance hall, she detoured the opposite direction of the broomshed, opting instead towards the Duck Pond. In which she was - not alone. Finding her daughter's former classmate the groundskeeper out there calf-deep in the water, scattering something into the water. "I read once that bread was actually not suitable for a duck diet." It was a good thing he wasn't tossing bread then, something had she looked close enough, would have realized. "Enjoying the moderate weather, Dhruv?"

If Amelia ever voiced that thought, Dhruv would be in agreement with her: basking in free time was great for the soul. And yes, this was something they were understanding the older they got too. Not that they felt constantly tired or anything; just that it was great to have the time to one’s self for one’s sanity.
They were happily watching the ducks peck away at the water for the oats when they heard Amelia’s voice. Dhruv looked over their shoulder - in the direction of her voice. “Oh hi, Amelia! You’re right about that since bread doesn’t have much nutritional value to them.’’ The professor scattered some more oats then waded splashed their way to the edge of the pond. “Oats, on the other hand, are perfect for them. Would you care to keep me and the ducks company?”

Amelia liked to say she was the opposite. In some ways she actually felt more energized now than when she was in her twenties. She only wished she had the metabolism of her twenty year old self.
She shook her head about the nutritional value comment. "I think it was actually more about bread posing as a choking hazard." She shrugged. "Might just have been marketing propaganda though." She enjoyed nature and creatures, but she definitely was far from the nutritional expert when it came to duck food. Taking a step towards him, she took a seat on the ground, "Would love that. Although I didn't bring any oats, but I suppose they have enough from yours. Observing is enough. Do they have names?"

“That too,” Dhruv remarked with a light smile. “But I’d like to think only if the pieces were too big or not soaked well in the water.” That was a good point about ducks and bread being raised by Amelia though. “Whatever the reason, you and I agree on one thing: bread isn’t the best option for ducks.”
The DADA sat on the edge of the pond, feet still submerged in the water. “That’s okay. You can have some oats to toss for them if you change your mind… after they’re done diving for the first set.” Because the feathered creatures were still in a frenzy. Dhruv found it so comforting and therapeutic to watch the action unfold before them. “Not all of them do. That one there.” They pointed to the duck with black feathers on the tips of its wings. “He’s called Daffy. The one beside him - the one with grey tail feathers, she’s unnamed. Care to make some suggestions?”

See. This was why Amelia wasn't the creatures maven. As much as she appreciated creatures and observing them in their natural habitat, she was definitely humble enough to admit that some of her peers just knew far more than she did on creatures and their diets. "Agreed," she raised an invisible glass in cheers of that notion, smiling at her younger colleague.
Why had she just noticed his feet in the water? She tilted her head in alarm, as he offered some oats to her when they were done diving after the first set. "True, wouldn't want to overfeed them. Is ... the water cold?" It wasn't winter yet and perhaps it was her age, but after August she had never felt compelled to even wade in the water. "A she, huh? Well with a Daffy, ya gotta have a Daisy." It may have been decades since she'd viewed anything Disney but there was was some names that just stuck with you. And growing up with a muggle father, she'd definitely had exposure to muggle films even before Hogwarts.

Dhruv would lightly argue that no one knew everything and that everyday could be made into a learning experience, just as this moment was for Amelia. So, with that bit of debate settled - with regard to bread and ducks - the DADA professor would continue their focus on securing names for the remaining unnamed ducks!
The water? “Not at all! It’s the perfect temperature for feet soaking.” Chucking, they added encouragingly, “You should give it a try. The most the ducks will do is nibble at your toes.” That wasn’t painful at all, mind you. “I approve! Daisy it is.” Dhruv got the reference quite easily. “Is Chloe a Disney fan?” they asked curiously. Was that how Amelia became familiar with Disney? And yes, Dhruv was making a mental note to reconnect with Chloe.
