The Courtyard is where the students spend their time between lessons if they’re not in their Common Room or the Great Hall. Its architecture reveals the Courtyard to be one of the oldest parts of the castle. It connects the castle with the Grounds and also leads to the Wooden Bridge.
In the middle of the Courtyard stands an antique ceramic fountain, perfect for admiring your own reflection or making wishes at. Be aware that once your coin has been tossed into the water, you may never get it back as it will continue to sink. Be careful not to fall in as an attempt of retrieving it, the staff does not usually fancy a swim in the fountain to fetch little students.
In between classes, the Courtyard is usually filled with students enjoying some sun before heading back into the castle again. Whether you choose to occupy one of the many stone benches or enjoy a picnic in the warm lush grass, the Courtyard is the perfect place to relax with your friends from all houses.
It was a lovely day to be out on the grounds. Juni grabbed a pair of sunglasses before heading out to the grounds to soak up a few more days of summer. Summer really just wasn’t long enough this year. Sure she had stayed busy over the summer vacation, spending time with her friends and family, studying (yes studying over summer, thanks to this year being her OWL year), Quidditch camp and her dad and Sundae getting married. If that wasn’t a busy summer for someone she didn’t know what was.
The fifth year found a spot in the middle of the grassy area of the courtyard. She sit down and fell back in the grass, slipped on her sunglasses. Soaking up the sun, surprisingly there was no books anywhere near her. Just her the grass and the sunshine.

It was just that a screech sounded somewhere very close to Juni, then a fluttering of wings followed and something landed right next to her shoulder. Another screech, this time inquisitive and slightly demanding. And a something nuzzled itself against Juni's shoulder.
"WINTER! Leave Juniper alone!" The snowy white owl turned and looked at Quinn with those wide, unblinking eyes and then nudged Juni's shoulder again with that same vague demanding-ness as before. "I'm sorry, she thinks you might have treats on you," Quinn explained. Why did she have to get such a social owl! She preferred to avoid people when possible, but no! Winter just had to say hi to everyone and beg for treats.
"You daft owl!" Quinn held up a small container and shook it. "I have your treats right here!"
Lydia lounged contentedly on the sun-warmed grass in the courtyard, her green-trimmed robes spread out around her. Her first lessons had gone surprisingly well. Everything was so fascinating. She didn't think she'd ever get tired of school, here, unlike in the muggle world where certain subjects like maths bored her to tears.
Suddenly her tawny owl Ophelia alighted on the grass next to her and hooted softly. Lydia smiled at the young owl and stroked her soft head. Ophelia nibbled affectionately at her hand. This is better than I ever imagined, Lydia thought to herself.
Ophelia held a small envelope in her beak. Lydia opened it and read a short message from her parents. Barely at school, and her parents were already sending her messages! But she was secretly pleased. She wondered if she would ever be homesick at a place that was literally as magical as this. Somehow, she doubted it, but it made her feel good to know that her parents were thinking of her and would be sending her care packages via Ophelia.
Lydia had a few of her textbooks on the grass nearby, but it was such a beautiful day that she couldn't bear cracking them. Instead she people-watched, one of her favorite activities.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
SPOILER!!: Lydia

Dorian was glad that he had a free hour between classes so that he could enjoy probably the last sunny few days before winter started. With a crossword puzzle book in his hand and a muggle pen behind his ear, the Ravenclaw found a nice and quiet place on the grass. No that he thought about it, he had never really spend his time here l. It was usually in the library or at the Lake where he could fish. But a change of scenery hurt no one. In fact, it was proven that it kept the mind healthy. .....okay he wasn't sure if that was proven or not...
Sitting down cross legged, the third year opened up his puzzle book just as an owl flew passed him. He looked up for a moment to see the owls flight and saw that the creature landed near a young girl. Getting letters was always nice. Unless it was a howler, that was just terrible. Luckily he had never gotten one before. He'd rather spend detention in the dungeons than have his dad be dissapointed in him.
He turned his attention back to the puzzle when something in the corner of his eyes caught his attention. A purple toad wearing a shimmering black cloak was jumping on the grass and away from him. "Not again!" he whined as the toad jumped his way towards the girl nearby. "Hey! You! Stop Ammonite please!" he called as he stood up and tried to catch it.
It was lucky, really for Ammonite that Beth hadn’t been listening to music and dancing around like she sometimes did. This time, all she was doing was walking holding onto her textbook when she heard the sound of someone calling for their…OH MERLIN THAT TOAD WAS PURPLE! Beth was mentally screaming with GLEE.
”hey….toadtoad” she spoke softly before diving to catch Ammonite and bumping her knee into the ground just as her hand nearly grabbed the purple thing. So that was how it happened – how Anabeth Greyvson fell on the ground in front of not only her classmate and dormmate but in front of the boy with the purple toad.
Perfect.
”sorry, I tried,” she frowned as she shifted out of his way not even caring that she had quite possibly skinned a small section of her knee.

Daisy decided to do some reading of some Quidditch magazines in order to relax. She ventured her way to the courtyard and sat down on one of the stone benches. She hoped to cross paths with Skylar and to mend things between them but she had to admit that she was nervous. What if her recent loss affected how she treated the Slytherin? Well, she would cross that bridge when she came to it.

So yes Skylar was a tad abrupt with the younger Hufflepuff on the train home a few months ago and while she PROBABLY should have felt bad, she also didn't. No offense, but while she liked Daisy well enough, she didn't care to discuss her relationship issues and doubts with her. Not just after the letter and the conversation with the ex. Not before having time to really process her feelings, which thankfully summer provided her the opportunity to really grow and explore her feelings with the present boyfriend.
Was she going to talk about what happened on the train now, should she run into Daisy? Absolutely not. It was in the past. But would she be polite to the younger girl if she ran across her? Sure. Especially considering the owl she'd seen leaving from her spot at the feast, which had the seventh year curious.
Not too curious though to broach the subject, as she spotted her reading a quidditch magazine. "Hey. That's a good one." She said, inclining her head at the magazine she was reading, taking a seat on the stone bench. "You trying out again?" She could offer advice, ya know? As a captain. But then again, Daisy was also an opponent too.

Daisy looked up from the magazine at Skylar and smiled a genuine smile. "I am trying out again. Hopefully, I will make it as either Keeper or Beater. I am doing Quidditch for the love of it and because it will be a good distraction."
She then bit her lip. "Look, I am sorry about the way I acted on the train. How about we try to move on from the past? That is if you wish."

Lydia had just said goodbye to Ophelia when several things seemed to happen all at once. She heard a boy's voice calling to her. As Ophelia took flight, Lydia looked up and saw the cutest, purplest toad she had ever seen hopping right towards her! That was also when she saw Beth walking through the courtyard with a textbook in her arms. Beth leaped for the toad, but she missed. Ouch, that had to hurt!
Before Lydia could ask Beth if she was ok, the toad was attempting to make another escape attempt. Lydia crouched down low to intercept the toad.
"Here cute little toadie," she cooed. The toad gave a last magnificent jump but Lydia was ready for him. "Aha! Got you!" Wow, this toad was heavier than he looked. And look at his wee little robes. So cute!
Cradling the squirming toad in her arms, Lydia raced over to Beth. "Oh no, are you all right, Beth? Did you scrape your knee?"
Turning to the older boy who had watched all of this happen over a matter of a few seconds, Lydia held up his purple toad triumphantly. "Got him!" she cried. "But now I have him I kinda want to keep him. He is so CUTE!"
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
So many things happened at once that it was hard to keep track of them all at the same time. A young girl, not the one with the owl post, but a new girl had seen Ammonite as well and he watched her attempts of grabbing the toad while Dorian himself was chasing the creature as well.
He could use magic but he did not want to use it on the toad. What if he made a mistake and he accidentally exploded him?! He couldn't live with that! He stopped just in that and kept his balance when the new girl suddenly fell down. Had she fallen down a few steps closer to him he would have tumbled over her. Luckily that was not the case and before the Ravenclaw could ask if she was alright, the other young girl was suddenly there. And she had Ammonite in her hands!
The boy shook his head and smiled when she held up the purple toad in front of him. "You know that's stealing right?" he said but he wasn't angry. In fact he was amused by her bluntness. Turning his attention to the fallen girl who he heard was called Beth, Dorian held out his hand for her to take so he could pull her up. "You'll live" he said casually. Kids fell down all the time. "Can i have Ammonite back now? " he asked as he looked back at the girl holding the purple toad.
Lydia couldn't help but blush. She knew the older boy was joking, but up close she realized he was actually pretty cute. Suddenly she felt much shyer than usual.
"Er, of course!" she said, too brightly. "Here he is. Good as new. Ammonite, that's a nice name. Speaking of names, I'm Lydia."
Oh good lord, she was totally babbling. She zipped her lips before the boy thought she was just some silly first year. He probably already thought that though.
Beth simply grinned when she heard that Lydia had caught the toad. Good, it was safe – that was good. ”oh I’m all right is our toad friend safe?” she asked as she got off of the ground and simply whipped at her knee. She’d had worse accidents before – which was plain to see from the scar under her lip, the scar that seemed to only be visible in certain slants of light.
”yeah I’ll live,” she informed the very eruditic boy with a cool smile ”I’ll live an even happier life if I know what spell was used for you toad’s coloring! PLEASE? Please tell me?” she asked happily as she dreamily thought of all the things she could change around the school.
She simply looked over to Lydia as well, it was in her hands now.

Well... It was obvious that Beth was okay because she had gotten up by herself and Dorian awkwardly lowered his outstretched hand.
"My dad used a color changing spell when i first got Ammonite from Diagon Alley two years ago" he said to Beth as it was her question. "I looked it up and the incantation is Colovaria but it is a pretty advanced spell so ask someone older" he did not want to be responsible for the poor creatures or objects...whatever this girl wanted to color.
Completely oblivious to Lydia's blushing as he was too busy taking Ammonite from her hands, Dorian opened his Ravenclaw robe pocket and put the toad inside. What he did take notice of was Lydia's babbling and the third year raised an eyebrow at her. The only thing he had gotten was that her name was Lydia... "Riiight..." he said slowly, trying not to laugh. "My name is Dorian" he answered to the both of them "How is Hogwarts so far?" just curious.
Lydia was glad that Beth was okay. She hadn't learned any healing spells yet! Lydia was also grateful that Beth had turned the conversation toward Ammonite. It actually was fascinating to hear about how the toad had come to be such a pretty shade of purple. Purple was her favorite color, but she was not about to say that and risk babbling again.
"It's been great so far, although it was a bit overwhelming at first having not even know any of this existed a few months ago," said Lydia. She was slowly regaining control of herself. Her face no longer felt so hot so that was good news. "What year are you, Dorian? Speaking of spells and such, what's your favorite class here at Hogwarts?"

Zoryn Spinnet had SO much time on her hands now that Quidditch Captain wasn't really a thing anymore. It SUCKED. The only good news was that she had way more time to do whatever she wanted, which typically included Quidditch tbh. Only today, she had other plans.
"GET YOUR POOL PASSES HERE, GET YOUR POOOL PASSES HERE!"
The Gryffindor waved around the stack of home-made pool passes in the air. Where were her customers at? Surely the first years were out today, it was a nice day to explore the castle. And an even nicer day to buy some counterfeit passes to the pool that definitely did not exist.
HEHEHEHE.

It felt like she had only been laying there for a few minutes before she heard an owl. Being at Hogwarts and outside on the grounds the screech of an owl flying past. She probably wouldn’t have thought about it, if it didn’t sound so close. Maybe it was the family owl… Why was she being send something already from home. What did her dad want already?
Something was snuggling up against her shoulder.
She reached over after she heard another screech. Oh there was an owl there. She sit up, and looked at the owl and laughed. ”I’m sorry there little owl, I’m afraid I just have cat treats in my pocket.” Which reminded her where was her cat, Boo? She hadn’t seen her since the first night back.
Also was someone missing or looking for their owl? Oh there was Quinn. She smiled at the younger ravenclaw. ”Hey Quinn, Does the owl belong to you?” She was still pretty amused by the snuggling owl.

Trinetta was out and about, just minding her own business on this lovely day, when she heard someone SHOUTING. At first, it took a minute for her to comprehend what a pool pass was - that pesky English to French thing in her brain - but when she did, she approached the older girl with a curious look on her face, eyebrows all scrunched up as she tried to figure out if this was a REAL thing or not.
"Hogwarts has a POOL?" she asked as she walked up to her, cocking her eye slightly to the side in questioning.

She couldn't recall who else. Not that it really mattered, because each year was different. "Quidditch IS a fabulous distraction." She agreed wholeheartedly.
But then, speaking of distractions, did Hufflepuffs usually bring up the past like that? Because Skylar had pretty much already moved on without bringing it up and yet now that it was out in the open, she felt otherwise. Also something to note was how easily Daisy took the blame, when she was pretty much equally as rude. Hufflepuffs were awesome scapegoats like that though. "It's in the past." She said bluntly. Really, it was, because she'd had a fabulous summer of quidditch and summer loving and her spirits were high that what happened on the Scarlet Train in June was like old news. And she really DID NOT want to say any more about it. Nor was she going to apologize for anything she may or may not have done, because again, past.

Beth was fine really, clearly and truly. ”oooooh thank you!” Beth then noticed his hand and paled she’d messed up hadn’t she? Still, she just. Stood tall and smiled at Dorian. ”that is awesome – thanks I’ll have to use it on things!...my dormmates have been trying to re-color the walls in our dorm” she smiled softly at him, ”I’ll make sure to practice on paper first…mmm’not afraid to practice things” even if practicing was booooring.

The fifth year waved around the little stack of passes she had made, grinning all the while. Someone was bound to come around eventually, her arm was getting all tired. It was her beater's arm too so you KNOW she had really been holding it up for a while.
And here came her first victim customer! It was about time.
"Well sure it does, ya think they'd forget to install one of those in a castle THIS huge?" The Gryffindor shook her head, silly kiddo. "It'd be an absolute travesty." Mhm. She was really gonna try to sell this thing, okay? Didn't know exactly how gullible this girl was, but Zoryn was gonna commit to her role here. It was the only way.

Lydia, Beth and also mention of Zoryn and Trinetta ^^
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
"Why do your dormmates want to re-color the walls?" for his hous their dormroom walls were a beautiful blue to represent Ravenclaw House and he guessed it would be the same for the other Houses. Okay now that he thought about it he also thought that that would be pretty boring... "You should totally add glitter to make the walls sparkle" he nodded his head matter of factly because anyone who denied that glitter didn't make things cooler were wrong. Look at Ammonite's little cloak! It had glitter on it and it never looked cooler before.
Turning to look at Lydia as she spoke, Dorian smiled when he realised that she was a muggleborn. "You're a muggleborn right?" wait did she know what that was? He'd find that out sooner or later. "I am too, well i was raised by a magical family so i knew about all of this like any other magical family but i am technically a muggleborn" he smiled.
Classes? Dorian frowned, now that he thought about it he did not have a class he specifically enjoyed or did not enjoy. "I like every class in their own way" he said. "I mean, learning about different branches of magic is amazing isn't it?" he said with a twinkle in his eyes. "But my favourite thing is exploring the castle" which meant opening the wrong doors because he had gotten lost again. HA!. "Oh and i'm a third year" Dorian checked his wrist watch and after seeing that he still had some time left before his next class would start the Ravenclaw sat back down on the grass. He crossed his legs to sit more comfortable and it was at that moment that he noticed that his puzzle book still lay where he had previously been. Totally NOT wanting to show off....ok he was... Dorian grabbed his wand with confidence and pointed it at the book. He muttered the summoning charm and watched as....
Nothing happened.
"Oh come on, not now" the third year whispered to himself and with a sigh he got up and went to pick up the book by hand. Well that had been embarrassing. While he picked up the book, Dorian could not help but notice the very loud voice of Zoryn on the other side of the courtyard. Was she handing out flyers to a fake pool? Oh Merlin's Beard....No one would fall for that, except someone had , a little first year. Actually the first year he had snapped at during the feast. Which he still felt guilty about by the way.
Dorian was debating whether or not to walk over and say something about it when a thought came to mind. Zoryn was older than him, which meant that she probably knew more places inside of Hogwarts than him. Perhaps there WAS a pool. In the end, he walked back to Lydia and Beth with a feeling of something being wrong...
Beth was fine really, clearly and truly. ”oooooh thank you!” Beth then noticed his hand and paled she’d messed up hadn’t she? Still, she just. Lydia sat down on the grass next to Beth, while listening to Dorian. Actually, now that she thought about it, recoloring the walls of the dorm might be fun.
"We should totally recolor the walls purple instead of that drab green," she said to Beth.
SPOILER!!: DuckyLinJi

"Yep, I'm a muggleborn," said Lydia. "Part of me still thinks this is all some sort of dream I'm going to wake up from or that one of the professors is going to take me aside and tell me there's been a mistake and I'm not really a witch at all."
Lydia fingered the yew wand in the pocket of her robes. At least a wand had chosen her. That meant she was truly a witch, didn't it? She watched as Dorian retrieved his own wand and...was something supposed to happen? He muttered to himself with what looked like embarrassment as he got up to retrieve the puzzle by hand. That was all right. At least she wasn't the only one embarrassing herself today!
Lydia was about to respond to Dorian talking about exploring the castle when both she and Dorian overhead a girl shouting something about a pool and free passes. A pool? Swimming had been one of the only Muggle sports Lydia had enjoyed back home, but she'd never heard of Hogwarts having a pool. She also noticed another first year in the courtyard with them who had approached the pool girl. And it wasn't just any girl, she realized. Lydia remembered her from the food trolley on the Hogwarts Express. Her name was Nettie. She glanced at Dorian again and saw he had a strange look on his face...
"Is something wrong?" she asked him. "Hogwarts doesn't have a pool, does it?"
Quinn sighed, and made her way over. So much for avoiding the whole social...thing today. "Yes, she's mine." She wasn't even attempting to hide the annoyance from her voice. "Sorry if she was be a bother. She should know better." Quinn held up her arm and clicked her tongue. Winter lifted off the ground in a flutter of wings, air, and feathers and landed on Quinn's outstretched arm. She watched the owl for a moment with a look of pure love, and gave her a few treats.
"I was just enjoying some time with her before sending her to deliver a letter." Quinn studied Juni for a long stretch of a moment. "Do you have an owl?"
