Located just south of the castle is a large body of water known as the Great Lake or the Black Lake. This is where the first years encounter the school for the first time when the Groundskeeper takes them there by boat. After seven years they will leave the castle, their individual house and their home behind as they sail back across the Great Lake to embark on new adventures.
If you decide to dip your toes in the water, be careful of the many magical creatures inhibiting the lake that might mistake a little student’s toe for a tasty treat. For in the Great Lake lives everything from merpeople to grindylows. Bartholomew Henry, the Giant Squid, however is not interested in nibbling on toes, but would much rather have someone tickle his tentacles while he soaks up some sun.
Why don’t you follow his lead and do the same? Do some homework in the sun heated grass, take that well deserved nap before Ancient Runes or catch up on that reading. Enjoy your time at the Great Lake!
The beginning of the term and fall were Blake's favorite times of year. It was the promise of a new beginning really. Taking out a couple sandwiches and sitting down on the water's edge Blake began to stare off into the distance.

Okay, Blake began to realize he had literally ZERO male friends. Everyone he talked to a regular basis was a girl. He had written both Isla and Bernadette all summer, one by snail mail and the other by owl post.
And then Blake heard it .... "You saw Claudine on the train?" Blake was a little surprised to hear that. It had actually been a big expense when she'd been suspended from Beauxbatons in France and had been sent home. "Um, I made my sister a cinnamon bun cake right at the end of summer...." since her birthday was at the end of July and all. She tried to think if anything else had happened? But no, actually, most of her chaos so far had happened at Hogwarts, so Bernie remained quiet and thoughtful at this question....

"Well let's see what happens over the school year and see if my mom still wants to go" The truth is his mom was more then likely to change her mind about the trip anyway.

Did Blake KNOW he was holding her hand? Was it an accident? On purpose? What if her hand was sweaty? Or worse, STICKY from the PB&J? Bernie hoped her face wasn't getting red...but she wasn't one to back down from anything, nuh uh, unless it involved breaking school rules, but something harmless, like, HOLDING a BOY'S HAND surely wasn't against any rules...

Bernie felt cheered by Blake's hand squeeze and so she squeezed his hand back, squinting as she looked out across the lake. "She said she didn't need me, Blake." Finneas Schmoe made his way towards the lake, checking his watch for the time and taking a whiff of that FRESH air. Nope. You just can't manufacture this stuff. Nothing says authentic air like the distant smell of polluted lake. Finneas was THRILLED to be outside. It had only been a month since term had started up and he was J A Z Z E D for today's activity with Ravenclaw house.
No really. He was J A Z Z E D.
Because they'd be doing some *jazz hands* JAZZERCISE. He had watched a few dozen jazzercise workout videos over the summer and was well on his way to becoming a jazzercise expert. It was a calming art. 10/10 recommend.
Finding a nice clearing near the lake, he set down his magic boombox (with the jazzercise tunes, y'know) and got to fumbling with its several buttons in order to find just the right bop while he waited for others to arrive.

Missa had NO IDEA what JAZZERCISE was. But if it was anything like the dancing Professor Schmoe had done at the halloween party last term, they were all probably literally breaking a leg.

He was rather proud of himself for being there for Bernadette right now. "She once poured strawberry jam over my head." Blake added, kind of snickering about it now. At the time he was rather angry. "I'd like to say something smart, like 'time heals all wounds' but I'm not sure that's always the case." Blake added, look at his 13 year old sophisticated self. "I'd just avoid her for now ... if you can." Blake added, what more was there to say on the Claudine subject? It's not exactly a secret that the two of them had never really gotten along. "How have your classes been so far?" ... he wasn't really sure what else to say.

Aboli had laid out a fluffy blanket and was propped up by her elbows as she watched the sky, noting their positions in the sky as the day progressed. She was making a cloud journal for some Divination reasons....she wanted to write home to her mum and tell her ALL about how much she was learning here. She knew she would be proud!
"That one that looks like Headmaster Trent keeps reappearing...weird..." she muttered to herself. She and Noah had spotted it the other day. How WEIRD was that -
MUSIC? Aboli sat up straight as soon as she heard it. MUSIC. And - Was that PROFESSOR SCHMOE? He looked sooooooo awkward in that O_O Aboli felt such extreme secondhand embarrassment that she outwardly cringed. Merlin....
This would be interesting to behold.

It might have been the way the sun was shining down or maybe it was just how bright the pink was on the professors very eye popping hot pink workout gear, but there was no way anyone would miss the woman as she came bouncing down from the castle. Her smile was as big as the pony tail fluffed on the back of her head and her fingers were snapping with excitement.
"I hope you don't mind if I join you today. I just love a good workout, don't you?" The man was so adorable that he would make sure the students were getting a great workout and outside like this. Oh she just couldn't want to get started. 'helllllllllooooo all." Beaming at each student as she found a small spot to call her own for Jazzercise.
What jazzercise was, Avalon had no idea. But the weather was beautiful, it seemed fun, and she never turned down the opportunity to bond with her classmates. So, donned in a pair of leggings, a sweatshirt, and white sneakers, she made her way down to the lake.
YIKES. The Ravenclaw nearly stopped in her tracks at the sight of Professor Schmoe. Merlin, could someone please give the man a lesson on wardrobe basics? He was a nice guy, but the man looked absolutely ridiculous! It took everything in her not to giggle out loud.
She waved to her Head of House, Missa, and....Professor Kitridge (who was looking like a bright pink pygmy puff in her workout attire) as she found a spot to stretch. Hmm. This should be an interesting experience indeed.
He was here! Well, kind of. Reluctantly if he was being honest. He didn’t quite want to participate due to the fact that he had about as much rhythm as a blast-ended skrewt but he’d cheer and shout from the side-lines. He was here to support everyone! Number one cheerleaders right here! You know, if cheerleaders sat on the side and chilled in the sun and took in the fresh air. Maybe he could make that a thing this year. Lazy cheerleading. First rule of lazy cheerleading was Don’t talk about lazy cheerleading! You must be relaxed and having a good time doing it.
Setting himself down in a nice patch of grass near the clearing, he stretched his legs out in front of him and gave a loud cheer, a large smile across his face, because not smiling took more effort than actually not smiling. ”Wooo! Let’s go Jazzercisers!”.

Noah had been walking around the grounds and then saw Aboli as well as a large group of students by the Lake. He paused, wondering what was going on. He followed his instinct and approached Aboli. "What's going on over there?" he asked with a nod towards the Ravenclaws all chilling.
Islay had been walking around when she spotted the…dancing? what on earth was going on oh. dear. merlin. Professor Schmoe had some she tilted her head at him thing…? about matching clothes right now eh? C’mon it looked like he was wearing a track and field outfit and not just some casual exercise clothes – this was like…straight out of a hilariously so bad its good movie.
Islay walked over to where she spotted Noah and Aboli and just waved over at the other girl and Noah. “they seem….a little too pumped for this, we could always cheer them on and see if they get peppier?”

Merlin's beard!!!!!!! They were holding hands!!!!!!!! Blake felt his confidenence soared!!! He was brave and did something and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He wanted to kind do a girl thing and screech in delight .. but he was going to be much more manly than that.
He was rather proud of himself for being there for Bernadette right now. "She once poured strawberry jam over my head." Blake added, kind of snickering about it now. At the time he was rather angry. "I'd like to say something smart, like 'time heals all wounds' but I'm not sure that's always the case." Blake added, look at his 13 year old sophisticated self. "I'd just avoid her for now ... if you can." Blake added, what more was there to say on the Claudine subject? It's not exactly a secret that the two of them had never really gotten along. "How have your classes been so far?" ... he wasn't really sure what else to say.
"Wait, whaaaaaaat?" Bernie let out a loud laugh at the mental image of Claudine, her fORmEr bEsT fRiEnD, dropping jam all over Blake's head. "Why? What was the purpose of that?" And bless Blake for somehow managing to get that all out of his hair. He had nice hair, you know; it was getting kind of long, but it looked soft, and it was a good brown color... clearly Blake took care of his hair. He probably brushed it like EVERY DAY.
As for avoiding Blaze.... Bernie sighed. Yep, she would do that, even though Claudine was her go-to partner in all her classes.... she sniffed a little. "Classes are okay. Obviously I'm VERY busy being the teaching assistant (TA) in Muggle Studies..." And speaking of Muggle Stuides... were her eyes deceiving her or was Finneas Schmoe out here, by the lake, starting an exercise club of some sort?! "Look, Blake!" Bernie lept up from the ground, Blake's hand still in hers as she took off running toward Schmoe. Yes, yes she was pulling the scaredy snake along with her.
"PROFESSOR SCHMOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Bernie was now waving hers and Blake's joined hands in the air like she just didn't care. HI HEY HI. "Can we join your exercise class?!"

Noah had been walking around the grounds and then saw Aboli as well as a large group of students by the Lake. He paused, wondering what was going on. He followed his instinct and approached Aboli. "What's going on over there?" he asked with a nod towards the Ravenclaws all chilling.
Was the Ravenclaw house a cult... O.o

"I think the Ravenclaws are about the jazz!dance around...I wish we had popcorn for the entertainment," she smirked and stayed lounged about, leaned back on her elbows. "Come sit - there's definitely enough room on my blanket," she said with a grin. Islay had joined them too. Aboli hadn't gotten a chance to get to know the girl beyond Noah....but she seemed all right.
"I am not cheering anyone on. You two can but," she shrugged. "I'm relaxing. I was watching the clouds, but Professor Schmoe kinda ruined it. I don't mind. He looks FUNNY," she grinned.

K had been planning on running down at the pitch for a little bit, but when she left the castle she couldn't help but noticing a bunch of people that were also wearing work out different forms of work out wear. Some rather... eclectic, as she thought she had seen Professor Kitridge in a very bright pink ensemble. Call her curious, but she'd decided to redirect her steps and follow the group of people who she could now see where heading towards the lake.
Getting closer, she could see Professor Schmoe. The girl had to quickly clamp a hand over her mouth in order to stifle any giggle or laugh that was threatening. It wasn't polite to laugh at her Professors especially not where they could NOTICE. What in merlin's beard were they all doing though?
Looking around at the others crowded around the lake, K could see Islay and Noah with another girl she had yet to meet, and jogged over their way. "Is Professor Schmoe always so... eclectic?" Because that felt a safe word.

And Aboli was happy to see him? D'aww. He was happy to see how far they'd grown from her thinking he was too nice to them being friends... Well hopefully they were friends. OH. And Kimmie was here! "Hey Kimmie!" he felt his smile grow wider. Wow. Fancy seeing her here... Well wasn't this going to be fun? Three of his friends were going to meet? Hopefully they got along. He was still bent over and fumbling with the boombox when one of his prefects had arrived. ”Hullo, Ms. Renaldi,” he chuckled awkwardly as he stood up. ”Thank you… Errr. Exercise clothes.” Incase that needed any sort of explanation. ”Have you, er, been enjoying the term so far?” Small talk master. Clearly.
He bent over again FINALLY finding the right station and GRINNED widely as tuuuuuuunes began to play. Excellent. But he did not notice Ms. Song spying from her fluffy blanket. Shame. He did, however, notice Professor Kitridge who was just as eager as she was blonde. ”Oh, of course not, Cassie,” he shook his head. ”The more the merrier,” she was very pink today.
It sort of made his eyes sore. But he was glad she came to join. Jazzercise is a TEAM sport. Just behind Cassie, he spotted a waving Avalon. Finneas waved BIG right back at her. ”Ms. Sinclair! You look like you’re read for some… JAZZERCISE!” Finneas was ready too, could she tell? He had his workout outfit on and everyyyything.
Perhaps he ought to--Oh. What was Mr. Jones doing sitting down? ”Prefect, Jones! Come join us!” He was here to jazzercise, right? RIGHT? Speaking of which, what time was it? They probably needed to get started. But just as the thought crossed his mind, there was yelling. A wild Bernadette yelling, to be exact.
Er. So he waved BOTH his arms right back at hers and Mr. Ryan's. ”ABSOLUTELY,” why was he also yelling??? ”We were just about to begin with some stretches!”
Yes. Starting. Let’s begin. ”Hello everyone, I hope everyone is ready for... JAZZERCISE? A FINE art, if I errr do say so myself,” great for the limbs and great for the souuuuuul. Finneas loved jazzercise, honestly. HoNeStLy. Anyway. ”Follow my lead, we’ll begin with some stretches… To the beat to the beat of the music everyone…..” He positioned himself in front of the group. Smiling big (and likely, very awkwardly).
First move: Lunging toward, into a deep dive. Arms outstretched. One. Two. Three. ”Try to, er, keep your heels up each time you bend forward. Arms streeeeeeeeeeetched far ahead of you.”
