Welcome to Flourish and Blotts As you step into the bookshop from the south end of the street, the first thing you notice is the sheer amount of literature that abounds inside the shop. The walls are lined with book shelves everywhere you turn--in fact, not a square inch of blank wall space is visible, and the shelves themselves are packed to bursting with books of all manners of shapes, sizes, colors. Each book has writing down the spines--some of which are in English and some of which are in some strange script you cannot begin to understand. Even the floor is occupied with stacks of books, with just enough space for you to find your way to gather up course books for a year of magical schooling, or just to browse. The shopkeeper will be glad to help you with your purchase or to help you find the book you need. Despite the seemingly chaotic stacking of books, the selection is very organized. The first floor is mostly dedicated to school books and books that are meant to expand one’s knowledge, all of which are nonfiction. Wish to learn about the history of Quidditch? We’ve got it. Want to explore the life of a famous person? No problem. Want to learn an obscure branch of magic? Chances are we’ve got that too. Also, near the front of the shop, a display of small, colored books can be seen. These are diaries and journals. A sign above the display states “Be sure to ask about customizing your journal!” Our second floor, which can be reached by use of a staircase on the left side of the store, holds fiction books, written by both Muggles and wizards/witches. All genres can be found here; from historical to mysteries to science fiction. Books for children can also be found here. Near the center of the shop is the counter where the shopkeeper can be found. Surrounding the counter is a display of newspapers, both Muggle and Wizard ones; including the Daily Prophet and the London Times. Magazines, such as Teen Witch Weekly, the Quibbler, and Quidditch, Quidditch, and More Quidditch! , can also be found here. Also in the center of the shop sits a very large table stacked with books that are needed for each school term. A large sign hovers above it. These books are prepackaged and organized according to year. First years are all the way to the left and seventh years are all the way to the right; all other years are in the middle. If a customer merely needs a few books instead of the entire lot, an equally large table sits nearby. This table is organized into subjects offered at Hogwarts. Here, you can choose the books that are needed. Towards the very back of the shop, there is a storage room which contains books that have not yet been unpacked and books that can be bought by special request. Only the shopkeeper is allowed in this room. Tucked away in a corner of the shop is a fireplace. Surrounding the fireplace are two large tables and a number of chairs, with small lights floating over each chair. This is a place for you to read and relax if you wish to do so. OOC : Please DO NOT, roleplay the shopkeeper. This shop is run by Elizabeth Chambers (SilverTiger). If you roleplay as the shopkeeper, your post will be deleted. Please feel free to RP yourself coming in, browsing around, making purchases, asking any questions you see fit. We will be checking in on the thread as much as we can but we can't be online 24/7 so please be patient with us. Remember that Snitchseeker site rules and the Diagon Alley Rules apply at all times. If you have any questions, you can ask them in the Diagon Alley Questions thread. Most importantly... please enjoy!! |
