Default Who do you think was the most deserving DADA professor? Who was the least?

Who do you think was the most deserving DADA professor?
Who was the least?

Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA) is a core subject at Hogwarts, where students learn how to defend themselves against any and all aspects of the Dark Arts! But as you progress through Harry’s journey, you might start to notice that no DADA professor has held the position for more than one year. Strange, no? Everyone else seems to think so too! The DADA teaching position was actually rumored to be jinxed, perhaps by Tom Riddle who was angered that Albus Dumbledore didn’t give him the job when he applied for it.

It's not all bad though! Thanks to the DADA curse, we were exposed to a whole cast of characters - some who were more than qualified to teach the course and others who were… not so qualified. I'll let you be the judge

With that in mind, we want to know which DADA professor you think was the most deserving of the position? Which one was the least deserving? Who do you think did the best job at teaching the subject as a whole?

Have any other thoughts regarding the curse of the DADA position or the professors who sought to fill the role? Drop a post below and get to discussing!

Personal opinion - the most deserving Professor for DADA was Remus Lupin. Maybe this comes from my bias, BUT he was really good with the students when his problem wasn't known - and who better to teach DADA when he'd been personally affected by Dark Arts with his 'furry little problem' (I'm at least assuming this is considered Dark Arts since they wrote a paper in DADA about lycanthropy). Not to mention his time in the first Order of the Phoenix as well probably meant he had some good experience under his belt that he could share.

Now for the LEAST deserving, this is hard.. merely because so many of them were terrible... but I think my answer would have to be Lockhart. The dude had ZERO clue what he was actually doing. And all of the things he claimed to have done, he hadn't ever actually done so the question would then be did he actually have any experience in DADA? Was he even DECENT at it? My assumption would be no given the mess ups he showed whenever he did attempt to show magic. He was definitely not fit to be a Professor.

I literally agree with everything Chellie has already said. That being said, Gilderoy is one of my favourite HP characters. But did he deserve the gig? Absolutely nawt. His failings were very amusing, though! Remus was absolutely brilliant as a professor, he would have been great in any subject, I think. He was great with the kids.

Counter argument for MOST deserving.... While Lupin had direct experience with the Dark Arts, given being a werewolf, I want to put in an advocacy for Severus Snape. He was knowledgeable, having worked on both sides of the war .. and was able to fool Voldemort into trusting him. Like, if you can fool one of the most evil wizards of the time!?! Not to mention he did actually in his bizarre way, care about the well-being of the students and their education. He had this sort of no-nonsense policy that the position needed. And finally, he WANTED the position. Being in a position that you actually want and are skilled enough to do, is a rare find and when you are in a position you want, it's never actually work.

As far as least deserving, I kind want to say Umbridge here because she was just bloody awful. Not to mention that she genuinely despised the students and didn't want to really be there =\ goes back to about Snape being most deserving because he wanted it, Umbridge was the exact opposite

I agree that Lupin and Snape were the most deserving DADA professors. They were qualified to teach the course, and taught it well. I also agree that it's crazy difficult to name ONE least deserving professor. I think Lockhart was a little bit worse than Umbridge because ... at least Umbridge taught the theories? whereas Lockhart just wasted everyone's entire year of education by reading from his books.

But I'd say Umbridge was a less deserving professor overall compared to Lockhart because of her actions outside of lessons.

What does everyone think about Barty Crouch Jr. as a DADA professor?
