The Ponte Vecchio. Literally, the Old Bridge, and it has certainly stood the test of time. A stone bridge dating all the way back to the medieval era, a stone plaque near its central arch memorializes its rebuilding in 1343 after a flood, and it even survived World War II while all other bridges were destroyed and subsequently rebuilt. The main attraction here are the shops, though the history is fascinating as well. Originally owned by butchers, the shops that line the bridge currently house all manner of little items; jewelry, art, souvenirs and quaintly, they display their wares outside on tables in front of their shops in the manner of the medieval era. Visit here to enjoy the experience, use the bridge to get from one side of the river to the other, buy a few trinkets to bring home… Just enjoy.

"Isn't this amazing?" Roxanne asked, stepping onto the old stone bridge. "How it's remained standing, despite it's age, with all these buildings on top of it....?" The plaque had read '1343' which was, what, 730+ years? Damn.
Walking further onto the bridge, she spotted a cute little jewelry shop tucked between a souviner shop and a small art gallery. "Hey, you want to look there first?", nodding towards the shop. Then, she realized what a mistake that question could turn out to be. What if Konrad took it as a kind of...... a hinting around? Would he freak out? She hoped not, because that was definitely not what she was doing. So, yes, she was biting her lip, waiting for his answer.

Why was the bridge still standing, after all those years? "That's simple," Konrad grinned, folding his arm around hers to keep her close, and leaned down a little to lower his voice. "Magic." In all honesty, he thought that the ones who built it were good at their jobs, to make a bridge like that one, but magic always seemed like a good answer, as well.
As he followed Roxanne, he nodded when she suggested checking out a shop, even if he hadn't even seen which one she meant. Jewelry shop. Well, what woman didn't want jewelry?
... that was when he stopped dead, his eyes widening a bit. She wanted jewelry. The reason he stopped like that was that the tiny, black box was right in one of the inside pockets of his coat, where it had been ever since they left London. He'd been carrying it with him for quite some time, although he never found the perfect moment or the actual courage to pop the question. What if she'd say no? Why would she say yes? He was terrified to find those two answers.
"Okay," he finally responded to her question, forcing a small smile on his face. But instead of finding her all excited, he noticed that she seemed rather nervous about it, too. Was that it? Was that the moment to sit on one knee and ask? Right then and there?

Ugh.
"Magic, huh?" Roxanne said, smirking. Honestly, that was what she had been thinking all these years. It made sense, with muggle made bridges' tendency to fall....
Then, suddenly, Konrad wasn't walking beside her anymore. Turning to see why, she spotted him a couple of paces behind her, eyes wide. Seemingly panicked over something. Crap, that had obviously been the wrong shop to start with! "Um, we don't have to, if you don't want to...." But the longer he stood there like that, the more worried she became. It had been an innocent suggestion, really. All she had wanted was to check out the shops collection of necklaces, see if they had anything interesting, not paralyze her boyfriend!
When he finally replied, Roxanne noticed that it was with a small, forced smile. "So, what was that all about.....?" she asked carefully, walking slower now towards the shop. She was kind of afraid of the answer, to be honest.

As he heard what she had to say, Konrad tried to snap back to his senses, even though he was still nervous... or at least more nervous than he usually was around her. She thought he didn't want to go in there with her? "No," he shook his head, "no, it's not that..." There were so many things he wanted to tell her right then, but he had no idea how to start. Maybe he should start by remembering her how much he loves her? "Come here." Before answering her question, he took her hand into his and walked over to the edge of the bridge, just... to be out of the way. It was bad enough that he was going to do it without dinner and flowers and all, so they might as well not stand in the middle of the street.
He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came at first; all he did was lightly pat his coat where he knew the small box would be, but just to make sure it was there. Even out there on the bridge, all he could hear was the heart beating impatiently, threatening to jump out, unless he did something, so he held both her hands into his, squeezing them lightly, careful not to hurt her. "I... I know this is the wrong way to do it, and I'm sorry about that." Pffft. Quite the Prince Charming, he was. "But," with that, he let go of her hands and stood on one knee, only praying that she wouldn't freak out; ANY woman knew what happened when a man stood on his knee. He'd even ignore the stares they would soon get, as long as things went well.
"I love you, I hope you know that." And just in case she still didn't know, he'd tell her lots and lots of times. "Which is why I'd be the happiest man alive," not that he wasn't already, "if you'd want to marry me." Thankfully, the box was where it was supposed to be when he took it out to reveal the ring. Soooo... "Will you? Marry me?" It was only when he waited for the answer that he realized that she might say no, which would probably ruin their holiday, the one that barely even started.
He shouldn't have said it, he shouldn't have said it, he shouldn't have said it... UGH. It was the most horrible part of all of that. The waiting-for-an-answer part. Well, waiting for a 'yes', preferrably.

As Roxanne followed Konrad to the side of the bridge, she began to get really worried. What was going on? Had she really said the completely wrong thing? Was he about to break up with her? Because that would be a horrible thing to do....
Oh. As she watched him kneel right there and then, she started to cry. Happy tears, of course. Because, yes, she knew what that meant. And when the words came, she was crying too hard to answer, at least at first. Instead, she waved her hands in front of her eyes, trying to stop crying enough to say what she wanted. Ugh, why couldn't she stop crying! "Yes!" she finally managed to croak out, kneeling down in front of Konrad and throwing her arms around him. "I would love to marry you!"

Tears? No! That was the last thing he wanted to see, especially coming from his always so strong Roxanne, but he nearly stopped functioning when he heard the word he was hoping to hear. She said yes.
...
She said yes!
With her arms around him, Konrad stood up and squeezed her close to his chest, never wanting to let her go. He wasn't going to let her go. All of his fears had gone instantly; that it may be too early to ask, or it even crossed his mind that she wouldn't want to be married again. So happy he was that he almost dropped the tiny box but, thankfully, he hadn't. "Insane, huh?" He mumbled, chuckling. "At least we can look at jewelry without me freaking out now." Speaking of which... there still was a ring that waited to be slipped on her finger, but he was going to enjoy holding her juuuust a little bit more. Hehe.

As Konrad stood up, Roxanne had no choice but to follow (well, she could have let go, but there was no way she was doing that, so...). And as he held her closer, she let out a happy little 'mmm' sound. Yep, this had to be one of the happiest moments of her life, if not the happiest.
"Nope, not insane, perfect." Because this really was perfect. And totally not insane, at all. Nope. And she would smack anyone who said otherwise. Well, except Konrad, but you know... "Speaking of jewelry," she started, smirking and tracing a finger down his chest, "don't you have some for me...?
Not forgetting that little detail....

Perfect?
... she still didn't think that at least he was insane?
Well, Konrad almost thought that it was a stupid thing to propose right there, in the middle of the street, but he realized that it was anything but stupid. But insane? Yes, he still thought that. He couldn't believe he was engaged... for a second time. It only made him even more nervous about trying not to do something wrong to lose her, but he wouldn't let that happen.
He was brought back to reality when Roxanne traced a finger down his chest, causing him to grin widely. "Why, Miss Carter," soon to be Mrs Scherfig, "of course I do." Leaving juuuust a little space between them, he held out his hand with the ring in the other, waiting for hers.
