I've read the chappie already and think this might have more meaning than appears to the eye. How though eludes me because Blaise is obviously not in love with her.

Chapter 12:
She Walks in Beauty


She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!


Ginny gathered her dress, its pink sea of silken foam cascading to her dyed high heels in beautiful, rippling waves; and the carriage set off, at a gait that was smoother than that of any horse Ginny had ridden in her entire lifetime - clearly, these stallions had been trained, until they had achieved a high level of discipline.

That must have cost a fortune, too, she thought to herself.

Outside, the sky rolled by in thick, rolls of blue. The houses rose against the skyline like expensive toys, magnificent but flawless - devastatingly plastic - in each detail. It was, yet and no doubt, a picturesque sight, one Ginny had only seen before in pictures, and she knew she was fortunate to have been provided a chance to see, up close, the realization of sights that had for long, been a faraway dream.

What would some people she knew give to be in her place!

But she knew, too, that the gain came with a price, and the tag in the form of Aunt Muriel was as expensive as any commodity. She scowled lightly at the thought of her cranky Great Aunt, and then remembered that it was unladylike to scowl in thought, at which she forced herself to smile – much as he disliked Aunt Muriel, the last thing she wanted was to ruin anything for the old lady: Muriel might not be the most pleasant woman on Planet Earth, but she had a heart -- and Ginny knew that, at the end of the day, Muriel only wanted what was best for her niece.

Of course, the fact that what Muriel wanted was as far from what Ginny wanted had never occurred to the old lady: the "noble" Great Aunt was content to believe that she knew her niece, inside-out.

The carriage pulled, presently, to a smooth, halt, and Ginny realized that she had reached her destination - she was aware that the carriage was bewitched to come to a stop only when its load had reached its appropriate destination. She pushed aside a curtain and almost peeked out, before she realized – thankfully, in time – that that, too, was a most unladylike act, and that if anyone saw her do so, Aunt Muriel would think of it what Fred and George thought of Percy singing in the shower.

With a grin at the thought, she stepped - as gracefully as was possible - outside. Lush green gardens rolled out, like velvet carpets, in front of her, and the night sky had expanded into a concrete, deep black that almost gave way to a dark, dark purple.

Lights burned from the windows of the mansion, but they were dimmed by the wave of illumination that curled into twists in the confines of the vast, beautifully-kept gardens: it seemed that others had already arrived, and their presence made her shift slightly uncomfortably, for they were clearly men and women of high repute, none of whom seemed to have landed here by a stroke of luck – and, of course, the persistence of a mother who was a little plump, loved her children dearly, and had once thrown a shoe at a gnome and ended up thwacking her husband on the head, instead.

“Good day, Miss Weasley.”

She looked up, startled by the direct address, and realized that the carriage had set off at a trot – it would come back when the event would be over. She stood there, at complete dis-ease, her lovely dress washing down to her feet in curls, and her red hair like flame-tinted silk in the darkness, beautiful to behold in its own, fiery way.

“You know me?” she asked, before realizing she had made a mistake. If he had greeted her, the gentleman would be the host, and these were not the kind of questions to be asked of the host, as Aunt Muriel had drilled into her head only half an hour ago.

“The carriage gives you away, Miss Weasley,” the man returned. “Lady Muriel wrote that her niece would replace her, tonight. Welcome to the Gopal Mansion, Ginevra.”

“I am honoured,” Ginny said, as she gathered what was left of her wits. He was an old man, and he surveyed her as if he surveyed a daughter. “It is my joy to be here tonight, Mr. Gopal. Lady Muriel sends her best wishes.” The last statement she added for effect, but she was pretty sure Aunt Muriel would not dislike it.

“The pleasure is all mine,” Mr. Gopal returned. “Let me show you to the dance floor, Miss Weasley.”

Ginny, as she allowed him to steer her away, let her gaze wander over the gardens. Mr. Gopal had left her, before she knew it, to “introduce yourself to the pleasant Lords and Ladies in attendance,” and it was only then that Ginny realized, with a very sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach, that she had not only not given him the present that was her token of gratitude, but also failed to remove it from the interiors of the carriage.
 
The moment that carriage reached back to the mansion, she was dead.

Dead.

Deader than Merlin's fat pink cat had been, when the Merlin in Ron's self-invented, baby-time story had realized that it had chewed through Merlin's favourite set of underpants.

DEADER than Fred and George had been, when they had sneaked into Great Aunt Muriel's temporary bedroom at the Burrow in the middle of the night and realized, just when they had been about to sneak back out after replacing the Great Aunt's solemn, brown slippers with fuzzy, neon blue bunny ones that could make any amount of immature, rude faces, that Aunt Muriel was standing in the doorway.

Her heart fluttering like a tiny thing with disappointed, little wings, she sought quietude at once. It came in the form of a large tree that stood, a little way off from where the heart of the party-crowd was concentrated and underneath the very moon -- its leaves moonlit, its branches alight with fairy dust and congregations of fireflies.

Glad for the refuge, she came to a silent stand beneath it and, from a distance, any onlooker would have been breathless, had they looked at her, right then -- for the moonlight washed down on her, filtered into quiet silver by the splendid canopy of moonlit leaves overhead, and it brought out the glow of her dress, the brown of her eyes, the precise yet gentle cut of her face -- danced across the red of her hair in a way that made one unable to look for her faults - which there definitely were, though the scene then had little, if any, place for them -- in a way that made one want to touch her to see if she was real, or a doll or a dream.

It was the moment Lord Rostov saw her.

I love how the chapter started with a regal tone, cascaded to a funny tone as Ginny knew that she was dead the moment the party was over, and ended with... well, I don't know how to describe what it ended on. Love, flirtation...?

Hello Maxie, and welcome home, I mean back. I'd like to congratulate on your very deserving nominations. I love your chapter you posted, and this: makes me think of several things. When I was small I remember seeing beautiful elequent doll houses that rich people bought for their little girls. Grand ones and could only imagine playing with. I figured if ever I had a chance to play with one, I would rather just stare at it's beauty. The other thing it reminded me of was the story, "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott. I wonder if Ginny might have felt some of the same as Jo felt when she visited her Great Aunt Marge. It's been ages ago since I read that, but that is what popped into my head.

This line I adore! I think Ginny with her trepidation is there only by the insistance of of her mother, for she knew it would be the only way she would ever have a chance to play a Princess in Prince Charmings castle, but if only for a short lived time frame.
