Bellatrix saw her at the same time as Varius, but neither knew this, of course. The eldest of the Black Sisters smiled, a little smile of joy - a rare occurrence, of course; an occurrence that the cruel cogs of time would, in fact, kill completely with their power; lower into the worst sort of madness, though no one knew or could even think of this, right now - and her eyes were alight when she greeted her best friend.
“Jenna?”
The surprise in Bellatrix’s tones was evident, and Jenna did not register it without a hint of surprise, herself - she could not, for the life of her, figure out why Bellatrix would no find it natural, that she, Jenna White, come to such an event. “My – you look gorgeous.”
... and truth was, Jenna did. Her flowing, milk-white ball gown – the ends of which showed a hint of beautiful, silver high heels, bought with relish, not too long ago – brought out the silver of the hair travelling down her shoulders in huge, loose curls, the greenish-argent of her eyes, and the full red of her lips. Not that she looked perfect. But, of course, she would to Bellatrix. Beauty always did lie in the eye of the beholder.
“Thank you,” Jenna said cheerfully. “It’s cold out here... and why in the name of Merlin are you surprised to see me?”
“I thought –” Bellatrix hesitated. Voldemort was such a touchy, testy topic, when brought up in front of Jenna. Bellatrix almost felt, sometimes, that Jenna ... did not like a lot of things about him. But she knew that was not true - Jenna was an excellent death-eater, at least as far as power was concerned. She was good with magic. Very good. “I thought you were supposed to meet the Dark Lord, tonight.”
Jenna’s face wore no expressions that Bellatrix could study, or dwell on. “Yes,” she said slowly, as if she was choosing her words very carefully. “At twelve. There is still an hour before twelve, is there not, Bella?”
Bella veiled her sudden hesitation behind a quick mask of cheerfulness. The last thing she wanted, was for Jenna to think she doubted her word - because she did not. “Indeed," she said. "I was mostly wondering why Varius seemed so excited, for the night. I thought it might be because he got to lend Andra a helping hand, with the decorations. You know how he loves thos. But I understand, now – he must have known you were coming.”
Jenna gave her a very small smile.
“Perhaps he did… perhaps he did, Bella!”
