Hi! It's Katie! OK, so I was looking through the fanfics, when suddenly, I had a great idea: What if....Hermione had an arranged marriage that she had no idea about? Well, it's sounded good....so I'm going to try and write it! Wish me luck!

Hermione had spent most of her years at Hogwarts with no crushes at all. Now that she was dating Harry Potter, she wondered how she managed to get through all those years?

"Hermione?" Hermione snapped out of her daydream.

"Yea Harry?"

"You got a letter.." Hermione yawned and reached for it. Harry snatched it away. "..but it's gonna have to cost you something."

"Gimmie!" Hermione kissed him, and Harry gave up the letter. Hermione began to open it, but Ron burst through the door.

"Hermione! Neville's gone and gotten into a fight with a suit of armor again!"

Hermione sighed. She'd never get to read this letter.

"Which one now Ron?"

"The one with the javelin."

"Damn! C'mon Ron. Let's go." Hermione put the letter down, and followed Ron out the portrait hole, Harry close behind. She stopped.

"Which corridor?" Ron pointed down one.

When Hermione arrived there, Neville was in a real situation. The suit of armor had him by the pants, and the javelin was pointed at his stomach.

"Hermione!" Neville shouted with relief, and Hermione pulled out her wand.

"Reverso Locomotar!" Neville collapsed to the ground in a heap. The students around them cheered. Harry and Ron helped Neville back up.

"What happened Neville?" Hermione asked as they walked back to the Common Room.

"Well, I dropped my Herbology book on his foot. I didn't think it would hurt him, and I said so when he complained. I guess it did. He's almost as bad as Sir Cadogan."

Harry and Ron shuddered at the mention of Sir Cadogan. Hermione rolled her eyes.

"Neville, we've had this discussion before. Never assume that an object doesn't have feelings, especially around this place," she said, and glanced about the walls.

They gave The Fat Lady the password, and climbed back into the Common Room. Hermione looked on the table. Her letter was gone.

"Who took my letter?" She asked. When she received no answer, she became frantic, and searched for her letter. "Where is it?"

"Maybe a house-elf took it," Harry suggested, and he turned over couch cushions. Ron agreed.

"In that case 'Mione, we may never see it again. You know how they are." Ron came back from looking by the bookshelf.

"I guess so..." Hermione looked forlornly about the room.

What was in that letter?

Dobby the House Elf was on his way to Gryffindor Tower. He was invisivle. That was the best way to avoid Peeves. Suddenly, Ron, Harry, and Hermione burst out of the portrait hole, and rushed down a corridor. Dobby almost said hi, but sighed. They wouldn't have seen him anyway. He pushed the hole open, and his eyes fell onto a small table.

"What the...."

There was a letter. Dobby went over and picked it up.

"Hermione Granger....Oh! I must get this to Miss Granger at once!"

Dobby put it in his new shirt pocket, and ran away. He rushed to the kitchens, where lunch was about to be prepared. When he got there, house-elves were busy cooking....as usual. Dobby put on his apron, and began to cut up lettuce for salads. Winky came over from her corner.

"Whassa matter Dobby? You is all aflutter"

"Winky...Dobby has found a letter directed to Miss Hermione Granger. Sir Harry Potter's friend!" Winky gasped.

"DOBBY! That's stealing, that is! You is being bad! You should be giving that back to Hermione Granger right nows!" Dobby waved her away.

"Winky, you is such a worrywart. I is knowing what I be doing! I'll return it to Miss Granger later. Now help me carve!"

Harry and Hermione walked into The Great Hall a little before lunch. This was where they got some 'personal time.' Harry found two seats near the front, and they sat down.

"Now....what was in that letter?"

"Harry! You know I don't know.....because I don't know where it went! I wish I knew! It looked like it was important."

Suddenly, pools of students poured in, and their 'personal time' was cut short. Hermione sighed, and kicked a first-year out of the seat next to her.

"Not today, short stuff." The first year made a rude hand jesture, and Harry pulled out his wand. Hermione stopped him. "Scram kid. Beat it. Before I let him go."

The tip of Harry's wand glowed, and sparks flew. The first years face turned pale, and he scrambled away. Ron appeared, and took the seat.

"Had to beat the vultures away, didn't you?" Ron sat down with a groan.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, only that since somebody wasn't at Potions, Snape took his usual hatred out on me!" Harry and Hermione exchanged sheepish looks.

"So that's why we had so much time....Sorry Ron."

"Yea well, don't do it again, or else.....ooh! Treacle Tart!"

Hermione and Harry rolled their eyes, and began to eat.

Well, that should answer a few questions...

Harry was sneaking down a corridor. He stopped at a picture of a bowl of fruit. Tickling the pear, he opened the door, and stepped into the kitchens.

The House-elves were taking some down time. After all, it was in the middle of the night. Dobby came over.

"Harry potter sir! What is you doings here? You is wanting somethings to eat?"

House elves zoomed in, carrying leftover food from today's feast. Harry shook them off.

"No Dobby, but I do need to ask you something." Harry led Dobby away.

"What is it Harry Potter?"

"Did you see a letter in Gryffindor Tower addressed to Hermione?"

"Yes Harry Potter sir!" Dobby squeaked, and handed it over. Harry sighed, and put it in his pocket.

"She's going to be pleased to see this. Thanks Dobby." arry grabbed a piece of cake from one of the trays, and the house elf bowed. Dobby called goodbye, and the door closed.

Harry's curiosity was peeking over his shoulder. What was in that letter?

"Well, maybe just a peek...."

He gave his wand a wiggle, and the letter became see through. He held it up to one of the orches, eating.

Dear Hermione,
Now that you are in your Seventh year at Hogwarts, your father and I have agreed to take into effect the promise we made long ago. You don't remember, but you have an arranged marriage. The Malfoy's have been waiting for this for a long time. Your future husband has also been notified, and we need your response ASAP.

Love,

Mom and Dad

Harry dropped his piece of cake. He also dropped the letter.

"The....the.....Malfoys?"

He picked up the letter, and ran to Gryffindor Common Room, cursing with every step.

Malfoy was in his Common Room, with Alora Moonrunner, Malfoy's new girlfriend. She was almost full elf, except for one human on her mother's side. How she got into the magical community was everybody's question, but there was no doubt that she was born to be in Slytherin, just like Malfoy. They were making out on the couch, and suddenly, there was a BANG, and the door flew open. Alora and Malfoy sat up with a jerk, but Malfoy relaxed when he saw Crabbe.

"What do you want Crabbe? Can't you see I'm-We're-busy?"

"Sorry Malfoy..." Crabbe panted, "But there's a letter for you." He held out the owl. Malfoy took it and unfurled the letter. Alora tried to read over her shoulder, but Malfoy got up and moved towards the window.

Dear Draco,
You do remember Miss Granger, I hope. Because the Grangers have contacted me, and we have agreed that the time is ripe. For your betrothal to Hermione Granger. It is my deepest wish for us to be thought of as a respected family. Marrying Miss Granger will do that for us, and we shall be respected and loved once again, before your father got us into Dark Dealings. Please respond as soon as possible Draco. I love you.

Draco paled, and reread the letter. And reread it again. And a third time. Alora came over, and began to rub his back, trying to peak. Malfoy pushed her aside.

"What's your problem Draco?" She stood, stunned.

"Nothing....everything....just....leave me alone Moonrunner." Malfoy pushed past everyone, and slammed the door behind him.

He stormed through the castle, cursing everyone from his father to Peeves, from his mother to Filch. Finally, he started to cry. Damn his Father! Damn him! He fell to the floor, by a small corner of the castle that hardly anyone came by anymore. He slammed his fist against the floor, cursing his father and his reputation once again. He heard slight footfalls, and hid in the shadows.

It was Hermione. She also had a crumpled letter in her hand. She sat close to Malfoy, but didn't see him. Her face was streaked with tears.

"How could he.....how could she.....Malfoy? Why, of all people? Why, when I love Harry so much? How can I marry Malfoy?"

"Didn't think I was that terrible, Granger." Malfoy drawled, and Hermione gasped, and shot up. She backed away from him.

"Stay away from me Malfoy. Just because we're betrothed, doesn't mean-"

"Relax Granger. Do you think I like this any more that you do? Just when I'm in the hottest relationship of my life, I get this stupid letter from my mother, saying I have to marry a mudblood, to protect the family name. WHat kind of sh*t is that?"

"I.....I'm sorry Malfoy. It's just.....I never thought this was happen. I thought....Harry and I..."

"Were going to get married. And be forever together. I know the routine. That's what my mother thought about my father. Until he got involved with The Dark Lord. Until he got shoved into Azkaban. Until....he died."

"He died in Azkaban? Did you see him?" Malfoy laughed bitterly.

"I didn't go to the funeral, no. My mother didn't even go. After all the hell he put his family through.....there was no way."

Hermione bowed her head. She had no idea. Malfoy noticed.

"Cheer up Granger. Maybe we can forget this ever happened. Just ignore the letter. OK?"

Hermione nodded. Then, she suprised him and herself, and gave Malfoy a hug. Brief, but a hug nonetheless. Malfoy was suprised, but was gracious enough to accept it. She let go, and turned to leave. Malfoy left in the opposite direction. They stopped.

They turned and looked at each other's husband/wife to be. They both shuddered, and walked on.

Hermione walked back to her Common Room, alone. It was getting pretty late out. She knew Harry was probably asleep. But she couldn't get her mind off Draco. He was so....nice to her.A very different side of Draco had been exposed to her, and she.....liked it.

She climbed through the portrait hole, and closed it quietly.

"Where were you?"

Hermione gasped and spun around. Harry stood there, arms folded across his chest, his hair in a tussle, as always. Hermione walked over to him.

"Just...out. Why are you still awake?"

"Did you forget our date?"

"What date?" Hermione looked puzzled.

"Today's our one year anniversary. Don't tell me you forgot." Hermione paled, and backed away.

"No it's not. That's tomorrow."

"No it's not. It WAS today. Now, again: Where Were You?"

"I....I....I was with Draco Malfoy-" Harry's face darkened, and his voice rose.

"Malfoy? You threw me over for MALFOY?? What on Earth were you thinking?"

Hermione burst into tears.

"Ha-Harry, I just...was mistaken for a moment, please..."

"No Hermione! This is unbelievable. Now, tell me the truth: Where Were You?"

"I TOLD YOU ALREADY!!" Hermione shrieked at Harry. "I was with Draco Malfoy! Since you read my letter, you must know that he's my fiance!" Harry's face turned red.

"I most certainly did not read your-"

"Oh give me a break Harry! I sealed the letter with a seal that only a wizard could break! I know Dobby didn't read it, because he's not a Wizard. ANd you were the only one other than me, who touched it!"

Harry backed away.

"Hermione, you've changed alot since that letter-"

"I'VE CHANGED?? You're the one who's reading my letter!You sure as hell didn't used to-"

"-and I think we need to seperate."

"-and another thing-......what?"

"I think we should break up." Harry stood firmly. "First, you forget our anniversary, then, I find out you were with Malfoy, of all people. You have changed, and we should break up. Maybe only for awhile, maybe permenatly."

"Harry...." The tears were now pouring down Hermione's cheeks. She started to cry out loud. Harry looked around, embarassed.

"Hermione....please not now..."

"NO! Not now, not EVER! You're right Harry, I'm gone!"

Harry tried to stop her, but she brushed past him, and ran up to the dorm, fully crying and unable to stop the tears.

Hermione didn't sit with Harry and Ron the next morning. She sat with Pavarti and Lavender. Somehow, as if overnight, she had gotten almost the entire Gryffindor Quiddich team on her side of the arguement, and Harry was almost beside himself.

"What's she playing at, getting my team to play for her team?" Harry grumbled to himself while eating a bowl of cereal. He kept ignoring glares sent his way by his team.

"Dunno mate, why don't you try talking to her....oh yea, last time you did, you broke up with her."

"RON! WHO'S SIDE ARE YOU ON?" Harry roared, and the Great Hall settled down a little. Ron's ears turned red.

"Yours Harry, but don't think that this is entirely her fault. Sure, she was with Malfoy, but..."

"Oh so that gives her permission? Ron...she's my girlfriend. I have to take care of her, not some Slytherin scum!"

Harry didn't talk to Hermione for the rest of the day. Ron tried to work with both of them, but he was out of practice, since Hermione had this job, usually. After the fifth try of getting them to talk, Ron lost it.

"I'm outta here." Ron stood up, and threw his books down.

"What?" Harry and Hermione said in unison, then scowled when they saw each other.

"I can't take you two any longer. Hermione, you're used to me and Harry fighting, but I'm not used to being the referee. Either get over yourselves, or I'm gone."

Hermione looked at Harry. Harry looked at Hermione. Hermione turned away,

"Not while he still won't forgive me, for something so trivial. I'm going with Ron."

And right in the middle of Herbology, she walked out of the greenhouse, Ron in tow. Harry sat there, stunned, then cursed. He got up, and ran out after them.

"RON!" He shouted, Hermione kept walking, but Ron turned and waited for him. "Why did you leave me?"

"Simply because I'm tired of you two fighting. You know you love her, and she loves you. She told me."

"When?"

"Just now, while walking out of the greenhouse."

Harry was silent.

"Where was she going?'

"To see Malfoy. She needed to talk to him." Harry grew angry. "And Harry.."

"What Ron?" Harry was ready to punch Malfoy in the face.

"Leave her alone. Give her some space. Then go talk to her."

Harry sighed, and Ron led him back up to the castle.

Hermione didn't go to the rest of her classes that day. She stayed in her dorm, and put a charm around it so only girls could come in. Ron tried to get in, but Hermione wouldn't talk, even if he just stood by the door.

"Hermione, just come out here!"

Silence.

"Please?"

"NO." Ron sighed. He went back downstairs.

"Harry! This isn't working."

"Tell her Malfoy's here." Ron rolled his eyes, and went back upstairs.

"Draco's here." The door flew open. Hermione stood in a rage, her bushy hair flying. She pointed her wand at Ron.

"NOT FUNNY RONALD WEASLY! IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT I HAVE HARRY ALWAY'S RAGGING ON ME, I DON'T NEED YOU! I DIDN'T CHOOSE THIS!" And whoosh, she was back in her room.

Ron went back downstairs. He flopped back down on the sofa, near Harry.

"This isn't working." Harry shrugged. Ron turned on him angrily. "You know, you could be helping."

"Like doing what? She'd rather hang out with Malfoy than me. And she forgot our anniversary." Ron smacked him. "What was that for?"

"For being an ignorant dunce. Hermione doesn't want to marry Malfoy the Ferret. She'd rather be with you! But you won't forgive her. Actually, there's nothing to forgive! You're being a complete idiot!"

Harry walked away. He climbed through the portait hole. He heard Ron curse, then go back up the stairs to try and coax Hermione down. Harry paced down the corridor.

"I'm not the one to blame, I'm not the one to blame, I'm not-"

"Talking to yourself Potter?"

Harry whirled around to face....Malfoy. His wand was out in a flash. Malfoy didn't even flinch.

"Or are you just trying to make sure you're 'not the one to blame'?"

"Enough MALFOY." Harry said through gritted teeth.

"Hey, I call 'em as I see 'em. And I think you're not being fair to my fiancee."

"STOP IT!" Sparks flew from his wand.

"Touchy about that subject? Oh well, at least I don't break up with girlfriends because they talk to other boys."

"Flamite Tutti!" Harry shrieked, and Malfoy's cloak was on fire. He frantically beat out the flames.

"Touchy about fire, Malfoy?" Malfoy sneered.

"At least I have a girlfriend." And Malfoy walked away. Harry started to speak a spell, then Hermione and Ron came out of nowhere.

"Harry stop!" Ron blocked Harry's wand. Hermione went to shield Malfoy. Harry glared at Malfoy was he turned to face Harry. The he put his arm around Hermione and kissed her. BIG TIME.

Hermione's plans were to squirm away, but Malfoy was such a good kisser...she melted in his arms, and the kiss deepened. Malfoy was beginning to enjoy himself, and he could feel Hermione relaxing under his touch. Then he felt her being ripped from his arms, and a fist connected with his face.

"Get away from her!"

"Harry! STOP IT!" Malfoy heard Hermione scream, and Harry was on top of him, pummeling his face, his arms, everywhere. He felt his blood running from his lip. The weight was gone. He saw Ron struggling to keep Harry away. Hermione kneeled by Malfoy, and began to dab at the blood. He smiled.

"So....how was it?" Hermione looked away. "C'mon, you know you liked it."

"Shut up." She whispered, and conjured a stretcher. She levitated Malfoy onto it, and helped him to the Hospital Wing.
