Hogwarts RPG Name: Xylina Samuels Third Year | Commitment - Sa16+ This is a one shot that was inspired by the picture hanging above my computer of a girl in a field, drenched to the core. I've no idea why it inspired me to do this, but I did it. Enjoy! Commitment The tears hit the floor and windows, and the darkness descended slowly, leaving the air grey. The clouds had rolled in, thundering and casting lightening which illuminated a single, lone woman wandering through a field, her hair plastered to her face, her eyes wide and staring as if she was unsure as to what she was doing here, her dress clinging to her slender body.
There seemed to be people searching for her: every now and then, she'd cast a glance over her shoulder and, if she saw anything, ran for a few minutes, further into the field and hide behind trees if they came to close. She seemed not to want to see one of them, the one who seemed to be searching more frantically than the rest, calling her name. How could he? she screamed in her mind. To say that, and then come looking for me as if he was scared for me! she ran harder as these thoughts ran through her brain and, despite the rain, seemed to be unaffected by anthing but the thoughts. She barely noticed when she ran out of grass beneath her feet and instead came to a small path of trees.
Glancing around her nervously, she made a dash into them, hoping that the others wouldn't be able to see her, despite the fact one of the women was wearing a wedding dress as she ran, her long, auburn hair plastered to her back, veil long lost. The ring on her finger seemed to magnify the woman hiding's distress as she looked at her own ring, the engagement ring presented to her that very day.
Stifling a sob, the woman slipped it off before flinging it as far as she could back into the field, hoping it would get lost in the long grass. The man closest to her, in a tux, with messy, jet black hair stopped, looking at the place it had rested for a minute and the woman slipped back into the cover of darkness, hoping he hadn't seen who threw it.
After a moment, the man shrugged it off and continued searching, calling her name, but the woman looked down at her dress instead. The once bright yellow was duller now, slightly more see-through as it clung to the woman's legs and she fled for better protection, releasing the clip that held her hair together. At once, it sprung down her shoulders, long, dark and wavy.
One of the men - unfortunately, and against the woman's wishes - saw her and cried out, 'Hermione!' which only made her run harder and faster, Her heels slipping off, but she barely noticed them. She ran as fast as her legs would permit, clutching the stitch in her chest the whole time. The man gave good pursuit, brushing his flaming red hair out of his eyes every few steps he ran.
Stopping only to turn, Hermione frowned at how close the man was. She didn't remember letting him get so close. She took a step back as he reached her, but he quickly closed the gap, taking hold of her wrist with a firm hand.
'Get off me, Ronald.' she said, her voice shaking, but calmcer than she felt. Ron didn't pay any attention to her, instead calling back to the others; 'I've got her!' but not letting his gaze stray from Hermione, in case she made a run for it. Hermione was considering it, her free hand reaching for the small, beaded bag in the pocket of a small cardigan she was still wearing.
Ron noticed this, and grabbed her other wrist too. 'Hermione, please. I didn't mean what I said back there.' he said, gesturing towards the Buttow, where Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley's wedding had just taken place. Hermione had slipped out during the reception, after Ron's thoughtless comment: 'God, I hope I don't get all lovey dovey like that. In fact, I hope I don't get love dovey at all.' as he watched Harry and Giny, smiling, looking deeply into each others eyes.
Hermione twisted her hands, trying fruitlessly to get out of Ron's grip, but he was too strong and kept a firm hold over her wrists so she couldn't escape, no matter how much she wanted to.
Ron could see this, and instead started dragging her back slowly as Harry and Ginny headed down, Ginny's dress covered in grass stains and ruined, Harry's tux ripped with his searching through the trees. Hermione barely noticed this; she was to busy looking away from their rings when she felt Ron reach towards her left hand, where her ruby ring had sat before she had thrown it.
Ginny and Harry helped coax Hermione back to the Burrow, and the four walked in silence, tears still pouring down Hermione's face. Ginny had done her best to try and mop it up, but the flow of tears was unstoppable. As long as Ron was around, and as long as two newly weds were around, Hermione knew she'd cry.
After an hour or so, when they'd all changed, and Hermione had lain down on her bed and cried harder, Ginny let Ron into their room and he sat down on Ginny's bed. Hermione turned away fom him, instead facing the wall. She found it much more interesting than what Ron was saying. She blanked him out, instead thinking of songs from when she was younger in an attempt to avoid what he was saying.
She barely heard him stand up, but thought he'd left and turned ove after a few moments, only to find him kneling next to the bed, watching her, the ruby ring she'd flung away in his hand. Hermione stared down at it for a few seconds before Ron spoke.
'I'm sorry if what I said offended you, Hermione. I didn't mean it. Please, give me a second chance? he asked. Hermione just kept staring at the ring, at how it glittered in the sunlight that was now pouring through the window. After a second, she looked out of it, spotting the rainbow that was just outside. After another few seconds of staring at that, she stood up and gestured for Ron to follow her as she headed down the stairs and outside into the garden of the Burrow where, just hours before, there had been a wedding.
Looking at the rainbow, she took a seat on one of the logs put out around the tent for the wedding, revelling in the sunshine after so much rain. Ron took the seat next to her, moving as close to her as he dared, until their shoulders were rubbing. Hermione, although initially nervous, allowed this and put her hands on her knees. Ron took hold of her left one and Hermione glanced nervously at him.
'Ron ... did you mean what you said, earlier? About the lovey dovey thing?' she asked him. Ron shook his head, an emtioned Hermione - for all her knowledge - couldn't identify in his eyes, with a small smile on his face.
'Of course not, Hermione. Why would I? It was a spur of the moment thing because ... I suppose I'm still the protective older brother and, after losing people I loved back in the battle at Hogwarts, I'd almost promised myself never to love until my feelings grew for you.'
Hermione felt tears filling her eyes again, and was quite astonished as she'd thought she'd be all dried out after so much crying. She looked at Ron, searching for something, anything to say he truly meant those words and found comfort in the smile and the way his eyes were efilled with love.
'Thank you.' she whispered, squeezing his hand. Ron, taking this to be an answer to what he had asked in the bedroom, slipped the ring back onto her finger. Hermione smiled, the tears spilling again.
Ron had given her the one thing he was scared of but wanted to give her.
Commitment.
