For example, with this latest installment (which is fabulous as always!), I loved how Jake was watching about Egypt! My little brother goes through these periods where he's only interested in a certain thing. To date, he's liked deserts/cactus, Egypt, planes, rockets (and NASA), railroads, coins, stamps, and now he's really into antiques (more specifically, toys and G.I. Joes). The fun thing is I get to learn along with him, and my favorite thing of the list has been Egypt (I love history! ). So, when Jake was watching that show, I was thinking about all the books, museums, and shows I was exposed to when I was 8 years old (Just like Jake! 'cause Joey was 6 at the time; the kid could list off deities and kings like none other).
My favorite stories/parts of stories are those I can connect with.
But, to step away from my connections, I found this chapter really interesting because I did not know Jake had a photographic memory! I didn't really know he had reading troubles either, but I wondered about dyslexia after he wrote his K backwards on his name tag (which was, by the way, a great job doing the whole show, don't tell thing!). It was cool, but also a tad bit creepy. Sorry. It's just, if I was Abbie, I would've been really weirded out (but also totally curious). Aaarg! I'm making connections again! Sorry! I also love how you tied it together with the present time, it made it easier to understand where Jake was coming from - in fact, it made me realize how much more scary this must have been to him in comparison to the average person.
To summarize this all simply, I loved it. The whole thing.
And I also, as insane as this might sound, feel a little guilty for reading this for free. Haha, my teachers never actually taught me to write creative stuff. I mean, apart from when I was about seven and it was all that kind of stuff. Other than that, we didn't, so no, I never learnt that xD But when it comes to Jake, he is just my means of channelling my own past and feelings and just a way to exaggerate myself.
I'm glad you could make connections and stuff though. XD And yeah, Abbie DID find it creepy; real creepy.
Anyways, thank you for your comments! They make me feel great. I mean, I've totally lost steam on this story so it's nothing like what I can really do.
As for your last comment:
--- Part 12: Hospital Jake Upstead :: 10, 12 and 13 years old.
Stepping into the house after a long, hard day of shopping for school supplies (heh), Jake found himself greeted by an empty abode. This wasn’t unusual for this to happen; in fact, Jake always took it in his stride. The small boy knew his mother was either at her parents’ or… well… no, she was definitely there. Fer sherrrr.
Picking up the post from the doormat, Jake wandered into his kitchen, looking through at each envelope and stopping when he got to one with that familiar blue trademark thingy on it. It was a letter from the hospital, and one that was, though Jake couldn’t tell, addressed to his mother.
Of course, he DID know it was about him. There were loads of letters like that these days.
Chucking the post onto the kitchen counter, Jake headed up to his room and packed all his junk into a bag. Of course, it was still about a week before school started, but he was out of here.
-----------------------
Sitting on the squashiest chair in the social worker’s office, Jake swung his feet back and forth, staring down at them as he did so. He could here his social worker lady talking to his new foster mother on the phone, but he only waited for the key word ‘hospital’ to come up.
It didn’t for a long time. In that time, Jake found himself inspecting the office for what felt like the gazillionth time. The cracked mug that had been superglued back together but still had holes in it, the playhouse for the dolls that a few of the younger kids liked to use which helped the social workers find out what was happening at home, the scuffed carpet that had to be stuck down with silver duct tape in various places. Jake was just studying the slightly peeling striped wallpaper when the word came up, and he froze, hand tightening on this rucksack strap and eyes narrowed, glaring at the wallpaper.
“Jacob has spent some time in hospital indeed… we got him checked out after he found us, and they gave him a full check up. They brought up his records and they found out something that he apparently didn’t know about himself… Ahh, you got the letter? And you’re still willing? Excellent.”
Jake grinned to himself. He had no idea what they had spoken about, but whenever his time in hospital was mentioned, foster parents decided not to take the boy. He wondered why…
-----------------------
A year later, Jake found himself sat opposite his foster parents, soon to be ADOPTIVE parents, he listened closely to their conversation. And that was when he found out.
“Dear, Jake goes into hospital a lot and… well, stuff happens to him. The reason he needs to be hospitalised sometimes is… well… he tends to freak out. You have to understand this if you want to adopt Jake with me. He is autistic.”
And it all still went ahead.
Jake was accepted.
Yay :3 Jake Upstead :: 13 years and… what? 9 or 10 months?
So… it’s been a while. Yeahhhhh… well, remember my last entry? I said I was losing time… and I lost it biiiiig time.
I actually attacked Professor Lawson. Seriously… it’s so scary. I don’t know what I did exactly, but Tibi was there. I went to his office because EVERYONE was accusing me of being a murderer. That’s not fair! Anyway… I kind of knew that I’d done it, and so when he came back from St. Mungo’s I went to see him and suddenly worked it out, so I ran. I went to hide in the duelling arena because I figured that would be the last place they’d look, since I can’t do magic.
It didn’t work.
It was the first place they looked.
Both Tibi and Lawson turned up, Lawson blew up the duelling stage-type-thingy I was standing on… and after a lot of begging and crying… he took me to St. Mungo’s.
So I missed the end of term and the feast and stuff and my dad just brought me home. My parents are leaving me alone for now, and I’m about to go and sleep… but I think I’m done being crazy now.
Well, that’s what the potions are for.
That was what the therapy was for. Last year.

Zoeeee. Your writing is AMAZING, as usual! I like Jake. His story is rather sad, but it's really interesting too.

Okay you guys, I'm gonna stop this story here I'm afraid. It's gotten hard to keep up with and busy, and I want to try writing his story again, so don't worry if you like reading about his past.
Thank you all for reading and commenting. You guys are amazing. <3
