Theme # 78: Author's Choice

Perhaps she should go with orange, today? There was a pretty fashion mag propped by her side, and a steaming mug of coffee on the table, and Tonks could not decide.

She wore her hair in pink pigtails now, tied neatly with pretty red bows, but that was not her cup of tea. It made her look, she was certain, like a little schoolgirl - and though the look stood out, she was not certain if Remus would appreciate it. He might, or he might not.

Tonks would not leave what he thought of her on their first date, to chance.

Theme # 01: Herbology

Gah. She hated this class. Myrtle rubbed a spot of ink off her frilly sleeve, as she filed into the new greenhouse with the rest of her class, and wished it were possible to take a seat at the very back.

"Hey, four eyes," someone called out. Myrtle turned, saw Olive Hornby, and glared daggers at her.

"What do you want, Hor -"

"Get out of my way."

*sigh* Myrtle stepped aside, let the meanie stalk past her. She could not, she knew, win where Olive Hornby was concerned. Not now. But she would, one day.

She would, trust you me.

Theme # 02: Muggle Studies

Parvati flipped back her pretty, dark hair, and grinned at the tall boy across the table. She had met - taken an instant liking to - him at her last eve out in Hogsmeade.

"I thought you had an exam tomorrow," he said, one eyebrow raised - he had expected her to be more nervous.

"Muggle Studies," Parvati replied with a nod. She did not think he needed to know that she had only taken the subject because she came of a muggle family herself, and was well-aware that it would be a piece of cake, a sure O in the basket.

Theme # 23: Telescope.

There was something delicious, like eggnog and beauty, about a Christmas at Hogwarts. Hermione Granger sat, cross-legged, on the floor of the Astronomy tower. She liked this place. She liked the telescopes, too.

"'Mione."

She turned round, saw Ron, and grinned up at him. "Hi, Ron. This place looks beautiful, doesn't it?"

It did, more than he could put into words. "Not as good as mistletoe," he said, a small smile curling the side of his lip. "But I like it."

He wrapped his arms around her, and kissed her forehead. She closed her eyes, forgot everything else.

Theme# 03: Transfiguration

Little woman, she might be; but Padma Patil was not an effeminate sort of person. It was no wonder, now, that she frowned at the curling iron her sister held out.

"This will ... give my hair bouncy, volumestuff?" she asked.

Parvati nodded.

Two hours later, Padma grimaced as she stepped out of her bedroom, towel-turban wrapped around her head.

"How did it go?" Parvati asked brightly.

Padma unwrapped the towel, and her twin gasped. "My God, Padma, what have you -"

"Might as well have transfigured my hair into what the cat left on the stairs," Padma replied dully.

*sigh*

Theme# 32: Common room

Luna Lovegood stuck a big quill behind her ear, and trotted into the corridor that led to the Ravenclaw common room. She petted the eagle-knocker, that little questioner, but of course that did not deter the said knocker from its question.

"What is death?"

"The side-effect of Loser's Lurgy," a boy snickered, as he came up behind her. Luna smiled up at him.

"It's sort of like the second existence, I think," she beamed. "The termination of the functions that define this life, for the sake of the start of ..."

Behind her, the eagle-knocker blinked.

Theme# 04: Ancient Runes

PEEVES!

Pansy should have known the poltergeist would be here. She had chucked an inkpot at him, on the way to an Ancient Runes lesson, two days ago - result? He waited for her every day.

She ducked as the ghost threw a crumpled sheet of paper at her head, raised a book to shield one side of her face - the side most open to attack - and ... well, began to run.

"YOU IDIOTIC -" she screamed, as she fled.

But she was glad it was only a crumpled paper, and not something heavier - last time, it had been a big, red apple.

Theme# 19: Wand

"Get. OUT!"

Draco Malfoy leaned negligently against the door of the classroom in response. But if looks could have damaged, he would have been a wisp of smoke, right now - there was mad fury in his girlfriend's eyes.

"What the HECK do you want, Malfoy?" she snapped. "You..."

She looked even prettier when angry; but he was not going to tell her that. He only smirked, pretended to stifle a yawn - and then fled, because he knew what was best for the preservation of his life.

Ginny kicked off her shoes to run better, and whipped out her wand.

Theme# 05: Astronomy

What a pretty view.

Lavender focused the telescope better, and pressed her right eye against it. Softly, of course - she did not want to ruin her mascara, or her freshly-straightened bangs. The little, celestial body seemed to swim in the distance, blue in its cloud of light.

Astronomy was such a wonder.

"Miss Brown," the teacher's stern tones met her ears. "Why are you not working on your star-chart?"

The fifth year heaved a disappointed sight, and focused her telescope back on Sirius. She would buy herself a telescope, first thing next Hogsmeade weekend, she resolved quietly.

Theme# 06: Divination

She was a proud mother, today; Molly Weasley. The redhead wiped a tear of joy as she turned away from the stove, unfastened her apron, and wiped her hands on a freshly-cleaned, kitchen-towel.

Her daughter's OWL results had arrived - and they had not disappointed, as Molly had been sure they would not. But what made her happiest was the fact that Ginny had become, this day, the first of her immediate family to have scored a pass grade in Divination - a big, happy A.

Molly grinned when she remembered her own grade - a pretty P, of course.

Theme# 07: Care of Magical Creatures

"Nifflers," Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank announced to the group of children clustered around the patch of grass. "They ..."

She trailed off and, by the time the class was over, her own share of pet niffler had managed to dig into her pocket, and find the little, golden-tinted biscuit in it. Wilhelmina smiled at its antics, petted it a bit, then carried it into the staffroom

She set it down on the seat next to her, picked up a mug of coffee, and drank deeply. How glad she was to be able to teach these kids the subject she loved best!

Theme# 08: Potions

Not a good day.

Merope Gaunt heaved a sigh, as she was glared at by the Potions professor, and managed to pour some of the thick, brownie-like stuff her attempt at the day's potion had resulted in, into a vial. She pretended to label it, but did not, then dropped it into the basket at the professor's desk.

She knew the Potions Master would realize it was her work, at once. But there was a chance, a chance that he might not. Which was exactly why she had taken a risk, and decided not to label it.

Theme# 09: Defense Against the Dark Arts

Astoria Greengrass had never been a fan of study-dates - and this one was no good, either. The Slytherin flipped open her Defense Against the Arts spell-book, scanned its index. Opposite her sat Draco Malfoy, and his gray eyes were bored, as he leaned back in his chair.

"Here it is," she said dryly.

Draco grunted.

Her eyes narrowed. "What the heck are you playing at, Draco? Why did you call me here, if you're not interested?"

He checked a sigh. What was with girls, and fire; and why was he expected to marry, in the first place?

Theme # 10: Arithmancy

Her Arithmancy textbook was propped by her side, and the lamplight was rather bright in the gloom. Gladys Gudgeon looked to her right, and saw her best friend rock to and fro in her seat, as this latter witch attempted to memorize a complicated bunch of stuff on numerology, for their examination of the subject tomorrow.

Gladys shrugged, closed her own book, whipped out a quill, and dipped it in blue ink. She had studied as much as she could, and now it was time to fulfill her weekly duty - she had to write a meaty letter to Gilderoy Lockhart.

Theme # 11: History of Magic

Meh.

History of magic. MEH!

Isla Black tucked a black lock behind her ear, as she stepped into the classroom. She hated this lesson, for she knew fully well how difficult she found it to memorize dates and the like. The sole reason she had not dropped the subject, at the first opportunity?

Bob Hitchens.

She stepped up to him now, and sat down by his side - he was early; he always was. "I hate this class," she whispered quietly. "You know that, don't you, Bob?"

"I love you," he grinned back. "You know that, don't you, Isla?"

Theme # 12: Charms

"Madame.

Your book charms my very soul, and I hereby express my desire to marry you. Will you, Daisy Hookum, be my wife?"

Daisy Hookum's eyes widened. Her book, My Life as a Muggle, was a bestseller, she knew - but that it would be cause for such mail, she had no idea. The pretty blonde glanced up from her chair, to look across the room, at her husband.

He saw her look. "Everything alright, Daisy? You look like some random guy just popped you a proposal." He guffawed at his own joke, and Daisy's eyes widened even further.

Theme # 13: Quidditch

She brushes back her short hair, and dons her big goggles. Then she fastens her robe, and steps out into the field, quite regally. She is a pretty sight, this woman in her late thirties, and she loves this place, loves her job, loves the feel of the wind before the start of a Quidditch match, and the authority her position on the stadium makes hers.

"Captains, shake hands," she says out loud.

The match kicks off, and fourteen players rise into the air. Rolanda Hooch settles back in her seat, and grins to herself. She is contended, with life.

Theme # 14: Hogwarts, A History

"MAMA!"

Mafalda Hopkirk – senior employee, Improper Use of Magic Office, the Ministry of Magic, England. Not an address, that, but her identity. Because that was, no doubt, how much Mafalda loved her job.

She pushed up her glasses now, and looked up from her paperwork, at her daughter. She had brought the nine-year-old along, for there would be no one at the house today, and now the child demanded to be the sole centre of attention. "Yes, honey?"

"This is a BIG book," the daughter replied, pointing to a copy of Hogwarts, A History.

Mafalda sighed, and nodded.

Theme # 15: Room

How good her mood was, today! Helga Hufflepuff pointed her wand at her temple, and her hair began to curl itself, loose little waves that fell over her shoulders, and cascaded down in thick, dark beauty.

"My, my, someone looks gorgeous," Godric laughed, as he stepped into the room. "What is the ocassion, Helga?"

"Like you don't know," she chuckled. Hogwarts would celebrate its first anniversary as a school, today. There were decorations in the halls, and Helga could not wait for the ceremony to start.

The two of them left hand-in-hand, the very best of friends.

Theme # 16: Dragonhide gloves

"This is ridiculous," Neville said, as he stepped into the room. Hannah Longbottom looked up as she slipped on a pair of dragonhide gloves, and picked up a potted plant.

"What, now?"

"That customer, who booked room number ... whatever number! He hasn't paid, and -"

"Neville."

"- and he won't go away, you know I don't want to get too firm and -"

"NEVILLE."

He stopped short. "What?"

She came up to him, gave him a quick hug. "Let's go for a walk," she said gently. Because crankiness was bad for his health.

Plus, she wanted the fresh air.

Theme # 17: Cauldron

Mrs. Xeno Lovegood scratched the top of her head with a quill, then whipped out a small notebook, and scrawled something on top of page number one.

"This is interesting, Xeno," she said, gently.

Xenophilius Lovegood looked up from his seat. "Your cauldron is on fire, Reeta," he pointed out, quite cheerfully. "Are you sure that is what should happen?"

"That's exactly what the interesting bit is," Reeta declared. "I am pretty sure the potion was supposed to take on a pink sheen, now."

She grinned at her husband, then poked a spoon in the brew. This was fun.

Theme # 18: Whomping Willow

Mary Macdonald had been a pretty kid, at one time. The kind who loved a good climb, a good fight with the Whomping Willow. Adventure, in other words. She was always ready for it.

For anything.

What had happened to her saddened Albus Dumbledore. He sat in his office now, and his eyes were dull as he thought of her. He was not even sure why the memories came back, now - perhaps because they were on the brink of the Second War.

But she had been a good student -- she did not deserved to become a victim of Dark Magic.

Theme # 20: Hogsmeade

To meet him at night, that was alright with Olympe Maxime. She was not a very romantic person, but she was French -- and Rubeus, though not the most sophisticated sort, made a good companion.

Companion only, though.

Which was exactly why she scrunched up her brows now, at his suggestion. "Don't be daft, Rubeus. A Hogsmeade visit ... we would attract too much attention, you know that."

"We don't need to go the same day as the students," Hagrid said. Because he, for his part, did like her more than a companion.

Unfortunately for him, she refused to relent.

Theme # 21: Veela

"I am a part-veela," she announced, rather proudly. Fluer Delacour threw her head back as she spoke, and it would not have taken a genius to know that she was rather vain, where her ancestry was concerned.

"I know," Bill grinned. "That's pretty neat. Well, see you later, Fluer. Have a nice time."

He grinned again, and walked off; but behind him, Fluer stood on the spot, and her gray-silver eyes were intent. How could he walk away, that easily? But that was exactly what made him different from the rest.

Exactly what attracted her towards him.

Theme # 22: Kneazle

Meghan McCormack was not in the best mood. She knew she ought to be glad she was keeper for a team like Puddlemere United, but she had been ignored for the post of new Captain. UGH!

"Hey, Meg!"

She looked up, and glared at her boyfriend. "What do you want, Davies?"

He grinned at the use of his last name. "Got you something." Then he handed her a basket - inside, curled up, was a little part-kneazle with bright, blue eyes. It opened its mouth, yawned a little cat-yawn, then closed its eyes.

Meghan realized she could smile, again.
