Theme # 01: Herbology

It was that time of the year, again. The time of the year when snow peeks out, and moisture freezes, and twilight looks like midnight.

When Christmas is about to arrive, and nothing can dampen one's spirits.

Harry Potter pressed his face against the windowpane, and stared out into the street. He was ten, an age that guaranteed he had still not come in contact with Hogwarts or Herbology or Headmaster Dumbledore, and little flakes fell through the air.

"You. Boy."

He turned round, to look at Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and Dudley, huddled together on a sofa.

Family?

Theme # 51: Act

She did not know what to do. How to act, how to react, how to speak, how to respond - all she knew was that he was there, that he was safe, that he had been healed.

"Don't you ever -" She clung to him, almost like a little child. "Don't you ever leave me again, like that."

Remus's right hand was behind her head, his left on her shoulder. "Duty, Tonks," he said, though he sounded - or seemed - no less pleased to see her. "I love you."

"You had better," she said, standing on tiptoe to kiss him.

Theme # 52: Bore

"I now pronounce you..."

But Tonks's mind was not on the words. She had imagined them, imagined them a score, a hundred, a thousand times, to the point where reality seemed like a repeat telecast.

Bored? No, she was not bored. Far from it. She felt like she was drunk with happiness, with joy and vigour. She felt Remus's arms around her, his lips on hers, and that was what, at long last, brought her back to Earth - only to take her straight to Heaven.

"I'm a Lupin, now," she whispered.

"You're mine," he replied, quietly.

Theme # 53: Chase

Ted Lupin was convinced that he could chase the cat. Or pet her. Th eone year old, who had yet to learn to talk - or walk - eyed the creature, from the sofa.

The cat stared at the babeh, wondering what he was trying to be up to. He did seem cute. Harmless.

"Remus, can you check on Teddy?" Tonks called, from the kitchen. She had left her boy for two minutes [or so she had estimated] but her task was taking longer.

"Sure," Remus called back, stepping into the living room to find the cat curled up, next to Ted.

Theme # 54: Dare

She could have looked better than Fluer. She could have won Bill. The comments, the criticism, the sting - she would have had to face none of it, no one would have dared. But she hadn't. Refused to.

Why?

"Ready, Tonks?"

She turned around, to face him. He was older than her, his hair gray at the edges, but his manner graceful, his elegance natural, as if instilled by experience that defied years.

Tonks slipped her hand in her husband's and, as his closed around hers, knew that she would not want to change herself for the world, now.

Theme # 55: Egg on

"Tonks -"

"No," Tonks's voice was brisk. "I'm not going to stand for this, Remus." She sounded cold. Too cold.

There were dark circles under Remus's eyes, how hollow they were, those eyes, all the more prominent as he took her in now, the pregnant woman in front of him. Am I a coward? Perhaps I am.

"Don't force me, Tonks," he said, quietly.

"Did you think I was going to egg you on?" Her tones were quiet. Cold. "Goad you into leaving? What's happened to you, Remus, why don't you understand?"

He turned away.

Theme # 56: Fight

Her father had often spoken of that princess there is, inside each girl. Each woman. Tonks had thought it was an expression of love.

She had never realized his words were true. That he meant them, when he said them.

Never realized it, until the point when she had seen Remus, met, come to know Remus - fallen in love like never before, come to understood what he meant to her, who she was on the inside.

Never realized it, until she and Remus had had their first real fight, and she had discovered that the princess inside her liked chocolate.

Theme # 57: Gape

Ted Tonks had never seen levitation, before. It was clear, then, why the smallish baby gaped, as Remus levitated the cat that had been about to lick his son, right off the sofa.

"Gurgle, gurgle," Ted said. "Gurgle, gg-ggurgle." It was, it might be mentioned, his way to protest against this unfair removal - he liked the big, brown creature.

"She's sick, Ted," Remus said, as he gently set the cat, down. "You shouldn't play with her."

"GURGGLLLE." Ted protested.

Tonks looked at Remus, Remus looked at Tonks, and then she bent down, and picked her son up.

Theme # 58: Hoot

"Remus."

Remus Lupin stirred, in his sleep. In the distance, outside of the window, an owl hooted. Then he had sat up, quite urgently, able to make out the dim outline of the bed, and the profile of his wife.

"Everything alright?" He was wide-awake at once, alert, quite ready to jump right out of the bed if need be.

"Of course." She placed a hand on his forearm, as if to calm him. "I just... I can't sleep."

He relaxed, his arms rising to wrap her. "We'll be alright," he said, softly. "You, Teddy and I."

Theme # 59: Ignore

"Don't you dare, Remus!"

She grabbed his hand, tried to make him face her. It was clear, however, that he was stronger, much stronger. Remus pulled his hand away, refusing to meet her gaze.

"Why, Remus?" Her voice was quiet.

He looked at her, then, looked at her at last. She didn't get it. He hadn't meant to endanger her. Endanger their son. "I'm not trying to ignore you, Tonks," he said, quietly.

"We're going to have a baby, Remus. How can you act like this, now?"

He sighed. "Let's - let's have dinner."

Theme # 60: Joke

Life could not be brighter. One could argue, of course, that times had never been bleaker - the Second Wizarding War gave birth to fear.

Oppression.

But Tonks, as she cradled her newborn baby in her arms, placed him in her lap to lift her face, to be kissed by her husband, felt like it was full of joys, of jokes, of laughter - full of sweetness that defied death, that defied the blackness, defied each horror.

"I love you," Remus said quietly, as he finally let go of her.

She looked up at him, bright-eyed.

"Me too, Remus. Me, too."

Theme # 61: Kiss

"Last time I checked, there was no law that said I can't sneak out of the common room to snog my girlfriend, after curfew."

"Hugo Weasley!" Hermione sounded indignant. "I do believe there is a law that tells you that you are not allowed to leave your common room, after curfew."

"But it doesn't say I can't do that, to snog someone," Hugo said, cheerfully. Not that he did that, you know. Kiss girls, after dark. But why tell her that?

Hermione turned round on Ron. "Lord!" she said. "I can't believe he has that one-track a mind!"

Ron grinned.

Theme # 62: Lope

Rose was ten, curly-haired and bright-eyed. She was also light-footed, unlike her brother, who found it hard to lope across the terrain, like her.

"Slow down, Rosieh!" Hugo called out.

She came to a halt, and held out a hand. Hugo took it and, together, the brother and sister hid behind the rosebush to spy on their parents. It was as they had expected: gift-boxes.

"I knew it!" Rose declared. "They're going to throw a surprise party!"

"Did they really think sending us to Aunt Yvaine's would stop us from finding out?" Hugo wondered.

Theme # 63: Mooch

"Idiot!"

"Moocher!"

"Idiot."

"Mooooooocher."

"KIDS!"

Hugo and Rose fell silent, at once. Hermione thundered into the room, dark hair crackling as if with electricity, a tome tucked under an arm.

"When," the mother's voice was stern. "Are you two going to learn to get along?"

"But she stole my new telescope!" Hugo protested.

"He broke my doll's arm!" Rose cut in.

"She DESTROYED my new chess-set," Hugo piped up.

"Only because he said I stole his telescope, when I only borrowed it to see what it does!"

Hermione blinked.

Rose and Hugo shrugged, and resumed their fight.

Theme # 64: Nap

"Mum?"

Hermione paused, in the doorway. She had tucked Hugo and Rose in to get some sleep [they had stayed awake, last night, because of a birthday party] and, now, on her way out of the room, it was her daughter's voice that stopped her.

"Rosie?"

"I love you." Rose reached up and Hermione, going up to her daughter, settled into the hug.

"Ron?"

He sat up. He had dozed off on the couch - an unplanned afternoon nap, as was his wont. Rubbing his eyes now, he smiled at her. "Kids asleep?"

"Mm. Hot cocoa?"

"Sounds like a plan."

Theme # 65: Ooze

If there was one thing that motherhood had taught her, it was that kids... never ever learn.

Perhaps adults don't learn either, Hermione thought to herself, as she opened the painted door of Rose and Hugo's giant room, and saw that the two had created a huge mess, yet again.

The pink-haired doll that lay, right next to the door, had only one arm - that had to be Hugo - and sticky, quite glitter-like paint oozed across the floor - Rose, of course.

"Ron! You're going to have to clean this up."

Ron stared at her. "Wha -?"

Theme # 66: Pace

It was a disaster! Rose, head gripped by both hands, knew that.

"Hugo, for God's sake, think of something."

Sixteen year old Hugo looked up at his sister. "Excuse me?" He was pacing up and down the room. "It was your plan to re-decorate mother and father's room, before they come back!"

"Yes, but the giant aquarium was your idea," Rose said, pointing at the knee-deep water they were both standing in.

"YOU had to experiment with charmwork."

"Because you encouraged me!"

"Hugo Weasley, I am -"

TRINGGG!

The doorbell had rung.

Ron and Hermione were back.

Theme # 67: Quell

There are some things that no amount of happiness can quell - thirsts that naught can quench.

"I miss them."

Ron looked up, brown eyes full of sudden surprise. Hermione, her front wisps of hair tinted with the gray that seemed so natural, so elegant on her now, rested her head against his shoulder.

Ron's arm found its familiar spot, around her waist. "Of course you do," he said, his tones matter-of-fact. "They're our kids. We raised them. Rose. Hugo. But they have families of their own now, love."

"And I have you."

He smiled. "You do."

Theme # 68: Roar

The toy lion could roar. Hugo was, as could be understood, delighted by this. The four year old clapped his hands, every time it roared, quite unaware that it was his hugs that set the toy off.

"MUMMEH."

Hermione peeked into the nursery, where Rose sat, cross-legged, brown eyes full of WRATH. "What now, Rosie?" She knew Rose had a temper - one that could escalate into tantrums.

"I want a toy lion, too!" Rose said, quite decisively.

Hermione raised an eyebrow. "You have a new Golden Witch Doll, Rosie. You asked for it."

Rose proceeded to throw a tantrum.

Theme # 69: Slap

CLANGSLAPWHAM.

The noise made Ron and Hermione rush into the room. The former grinned. Rose had attempted to paint her bedroom walls black and, in the process, turned over two giant tins of paint.

The carpet was now a highly sticky black.

"Hi, mum. Hi, pops." The sixteen year old was blonde these days, and wore only one earring. "Let's fix this!"

"Sure -" Ron began, amused by her antics.

He always was.

"- Ly not," Hermione finished, arms crossed against her chest. "If you're willing to take risks, Rose, you're going to have to learn to face consequences."

Theme # 70: Team

Hugo returned home that summer, flushed with pride. He had made it on to his house's Quidditch team, and done excellently on his OWLs.

Rose was less than impressed.

"You had better wait till your OWL results come, dahling," she said, feet resting on the arm of a sofa, pretty lips curled into a half smirk. "I wouldn't count the chickens, before the eggs hatch.

"Rose," Hermione said, warning in her tones.

"Why does she always try to pick on me?" Hugo asked, rolling his eyes, as he turned to his parents.

"Because I can?" Rose suggested, cheerfully.

Theme # 71: Untie

Sometimes, time maximizes itself, makes one wish it were faster. Victoire, as she sat in the hammock in the garden, wished so now. He was lodging in Romania on business, and life did not feel the same.

Her attention was caught by the appearance of an owl, on the horizon. The bird swooped down, large wings beating restlessly, and Victoire knew at once, what it brought - a letter from Teddy! Jumping to her feet, she met the creature halfway across the garden, untied the envelope attached to its feet like it was something she had waited for years, to do.

Theme # 72: Vex

Babies vexed Victoire. Vexed her. "They do nothing," she had told Ted, quite patiently. "Except cry, ask for food, cry, ask for a change of clothes, cry, ask for -"

"I get it, I get it!" Ted had thrown up his hands in a defeated sort of manner. "You win."

But now, as she sat up quietly in bed, and looked at the person next to her, her husband, the one man she truly loved, she wondered how things were going to shape up her for her. For them. Now that they were going to have a child, of their own.

Theme # 73: Warn

"Lysarc Lupin! This is your last warning!"

The teen scowled. It wasn't his fault that, each time he came home for the holidays, he came - it seemed to him - as a follow-up to letters from concerned professors, who were 'driven enough up the wall' to contact his parents.

"I didn't turn Ole Mando's cat purple, on purpose!" The boy protested. "Dad - you believe me, don't you?" He turned away from Victoire, who looked like she wanted to shake him hard, and focused his attention on his father.

"I can't say I do," Teddy replied.

Theme # 74: X-tinguish

"You are what?"

Victoire glared at her son. He could be so insensitive, sometimes. "I am no whats," she said, loftily, as she extinguished a lamp. "You are going to have a sibling - a baby brother, or sister."

Lysarc stared at her, in disbelief. "You aren't serious."

"Look who's talking," Victoire said. "Why is this news so hard to digest? It isn't like a brother - or sister - is going to eat your books."

"You never know, do you?" Lysarc asked, one eyebrow raised.

"Lysarc!" Ted said, warningly.

"Fine, fine, I'm really happy for all of us."

Theme # 75: Yodel

Teddy put down his towel, and looked at her. He had no idea why she was looking at him, like that. He had emerged from the shower, a minute ago, and was now about to dry his hair.

"What?" He asked.

"You were... yodelling." Victoire said. She knew Teddy. She knew him well. Or so, at least, she had thought until today. "In the shower."

Teddy grinned. So that was it. It wasn't like he was habitual of singing in the shower. "People get hyper sometimes," he laughed. "Nothing to be troubled about, is it?"

Victoire grinned. "Not yet."
