http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 52. Bore “And so…the Goblin Wars played a pivotal role in the history of wizards at the time.” The monotone voice of Hogwarts’ resident spectral professor was carrying on, telling the class all about his seemingly favorite subject to teach in the curriculum. It was the only one that appeared to get Binns to show any sort of…animation. If it could be called that. Aurora had to fight to keep attentive to what was going on, the Slytherin caught between falling sleep and daydreaming. It was a wonder there weren't more ghosts in the classroom as he bored them all to death. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 72. Vex “Ugg…why must Professor Callahan torment us this way?” Morgan remarked, sighing as she collapsed down into the chair across from her. Aurora looked up from her transfiguration book as her friend joined her in the library. “It wouldn’t be torture if you actually paid attention in class so you understood the homework.” The blonde could be so distracted by things or rather someth-one. “But he makes it so hard to understand. Why can’t he be a more entertaining teacher? Yes…because blaming the man was the way to go. Aurora just shook her head fighting the urge to roll her eyes. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 62. Amortentia Aurora headed down to the dungeons in search of her colleague at Dumbledore’s request. When had she become a messenger? Couldn’t an owl, patronus or simple not served just as well? But no…the former Slytherin professor was sent after her former housemate…wherever Snape might be. It took a few knocks and tries at various rooms such as his own quarters, main classroom and office before she finally smelled something coming from one of the empty labs. At first it was unidentifiable but as she got closer it smelled of ozone and treacle fudge. “What in Merlin’s Beard are you brewing?!” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 42. Portraits She stood in the office awaiting the others supposed to be joining her for this little tete-a-tete. Since when does one call a meeting and not be there first? Whatever the case, Aurora was there in the headmaster’s office…alone…the room no less daunting as a professor then when she had unfortunately been within as a student. But that was another time. Hearing voices, she turned towards the door, only to notice a few of the room’s flat occupants were awake and speaking to themselves and others. About her of all things. How did the dear old coot manage any privacy? |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 82. Careful The first time in the astronomy tower had been an experience. To be so high up…higher than anywhere else in the castle. Such a contrast to the dungeons where her quarters resided. And so close to the stars. “Miss Sinistra, do step back please,” the professor instructed, pulling Aurora away from her musings where she had nearly let herself get too close to the railing that separated the classroom from the sky. No doubt the reason for the light scolding from the older woman. She would certainly need to be wary of her surroundings during her day or rather night-dreams. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 32. Common Room Aurora was not a happy camper. She had managed to trip on some ice in the courtyard and hurt her arm while merely wanting to spend some time in the wintery wonderland outside. And now the healer had told her to stay inside and take it easy after taking care of the injury while her friends were having fun. Sigh. The third year collapsed into a chair once she got to the common room and tucking her legs underneath her. After a while Aurora found herself comfy-cozy, staring into the flames of the fireplace. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 24. House Elf Aurora wasn't antisocial, enjoying the company of others at times. However the occasional faculty- related function was not one of those times and Professor Slughorn had just invited her to a shindig of his. Not like she had any choice in the matter give the man's role as Head of house, both now and when she was a student. "Oh...and could you kindly bring some biscuits to the gathering when you come?" The question was left open-ended as the man walked away from her without a second thought. Not even waiting for an answer. What was she...a house elf? |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 84. Angry "Ye are soooo wrong, Sinistra!" the clearly miffed voice of one Malcolm Kittergern flowed down the hallway towards her causing the brunette to turn at the sound of her name. "Wrong? Wrong about what, pray tell?" She asked as she looked at the Gryffindor. " Wrong about yer insinuations. How dare ye say what ye did!" "Who said it was me?" Aurora mused calmly as if entirely innocent in the eyes of any others. The girl then leaning in so only he heard. "But next time DON'T lie about your relations with me...understand?" Turnabout was far play after all. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 28. Time Turner Aurora had waited for a long time to see the famous Alderran meteor shower. It was one of the rarer night-time occurrences, only appearing once every century….if one was lucky. The astronomy professor had planned out her evening to the very last detail, setting her spare telescope to record all she could as she watched naturally. All too soon it was over and the feeling of accomplishment was replaced with the wish to see it live all over again. If only she could go back in time. Otherwise…Aurora had to hope she lived long enough to see the next go-around. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 38. Patronus Dementors. Those vile, frightening creatures would be moving…well floating…around the perimeter of Hogwarts in search of the escaped Black. Aurora couldn’t help but shiver at the though, feeling thankful Dumbledore had managed to keep them off the actual grounds. Seeing a shadowy shape in her tower one evening as a cold wintery breeze blew through the open windows, the astronomy professor’s first thought was a Dementor was inside the school. Without a second thought Aurora thought of a happy moment as she raised her wand, a spectral owl bursting forth into the darkness in response. Revealing her mistake. “Must Relax.” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 68. Roar “And this term’s winner of the house cup is Slytherin with 548 points…” The roar of the Slytherin table filled the Great Hall as the banners hanging from the ceiling went from the Hogwarts crest to emerald green. The sound cutting off the headmaster even before his words were finished. “Take that Ravenclaw! Snake eats bird,” a rambunctious 5th year let out, the house of Rowena having given them a run for their galleons to the very end. A look from a prefect silenced any further outbursts of the sort. Aurora agreed with the 5th year though. Good job Slytherin. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 86. Daring “Alright…so that’s it,” Aurora said as she put in the last ingredient to their potions work. “We’re all set right?” Harlow looked over the textbook to double-check their work, nodding as she confirmed they had completed the last step. “Aye…we did it,” she said biting her lip. All that was left was to test. “Right….testing it,” the Slytherin remarked catching the meaning of the look from her friend. This was their third attempt and the only completed one that hadn’t gone bad. Did they dare it? “Cheers,” she said, as they gingerly bumping the vials before downing the contents. Hmm…Tangy. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 58. Hoot Aurora hid in the library trying to avoid her family. Just because it was her birthday didn’t mean she wanted to be surrounded by everyone of the Sinistras/McAlister clan for a whole week. It didn’t help she was eleven and everyone was waiting with baited breath for a particular letter. “I am a witch…I am a witch,” she mused quietly trying not to be worried about being overlooked. Sighing she went back to reading, getting absorbed in the Pleiades until she was interrupted by a hoot beside her. One letter addressed to a Miss Aurora Sinistra resided in its beak. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 65. Ooze It was all hands on deck whenever any of the staff had any free time. The students could only do so much in the care of the mandrakes and the preparation of the draught was left to only those with enough experience to be sure of doing it properly. Namely Snape and Poppy. That didn’t mean Aurora wasn’t left one afternoon to stand watch over the siting, brewing potions. It was all oozy and gooey at this stage and she couldn’t help hoping that nothing went wrong on her watch. “Now no exploding…” she mused as she checked on things. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 16. Dragonhide Gloves Diagon Alley was swarming with students. Summer was upon them all and both new and returning Hogwarts pupils were flitting around the cobblestone street in-between shops gathering school supplies. Aurora was within Madam Malkins with her mum getting her robes and such. “Gloves?” the eleven year old asked, looking up at her mother as she saw the mention of them on her supply list. “Yes, dragonhide,” Morgana Sinistra answered her daughter, fingering through the various fabrics available for dress robes. “To protect your hands in potions and any other dangerous class activities.” Poor dragons, Aurora mused. Not protective for them. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 80. Author’s Choice – Truth He had killed him. Snape had killed Dumbledore. And most of the castle…the wizarding world abhorred him for it. Except her. Aurora couldn’t blame people hating him though. He was a snarky misanthrope most of the time but that wasn’t all that he was. He had protected the trio from a werewolf. He had taken thorough actions against the fake-Moody. His quiet demeanor during their school-days Sure they could be seen as the dealings of a true double agent, especially linked with the latest murder. But perhaps that’s what they were being made to believe. Which side should she believe? |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 90. Present “Mr. Weasley... pay attention.” The redhead turned back her way and Sinistra was greeted with the face of Hugo Weasley, the youngest of the next generation of the family at Hogwarts. Had it really been two decades since his aunt Ginny had graduated the youngest of the last? “Yes, Professor,” he said repentantly without much trouble, a change from his father’s own behavior in her classroom. But then Hugo did have Hermione Granger’s genes in him as well. Aurora nodded in answer and resumed the lesson. “As I was saying…who can tell me the brightest star of the Centaurus constellation?” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 36. Muggle Aurora was looking forward to a nice relaxing shower after being elbow-deep and kneeling in dirt in Herbology class. Work robes and dragon-hide gloves only helped so much, especially when there were noxious smells involved. Thankfully when she got back to her dorm, none of her mates weren’t there so she had the bathroom all to herself. Perfect! She had just stepped into the room when she nearly tripped over something on the floor. Looking down, Aurora spotted a strange yellow object. “What in Merlin’s be—“ she said confused, leaning down to pick up the plastic item. A duck? |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 56. Fight “MOTHER!” To say Aurora was not pleased would be an understatement. Here she had simply agreed to attend a gathering that her mother had planned. She certainly wouldn’t have had she known her mother’s true reason for the invitation. “Do NOT raise your voice to me, Aurora!” “But how could you?” she remarked, clearly disgusted at the memory of the man. “How could you set me up like that…to think that he and I would…ugg!” “You are a PROPER witch and need a PROPER husband. Not spend all your time starring at the stars as if they are your children.” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 40. Spell Sigh. He was so handsome. Aurora couldn’t help but stare at the blonde-haired boy sitting across the library, her attention having wandered from her studying when he had walked in. Another sigh. “Earth to Aurora…” Simone said coming beside her friend and wondering why the brunette seemed to have spaced out. “Isn’t he perfect,” Sinistra said without evening looking at her companion. “Who?” “Kennedy…Kennedy Mason.” To her credit, Simone gave a look of confusion as she glanced between them sensing an oddity in her friend’s behavior. Especially since Aurora had hated Kennedy since 4th year. “Aurora what are you on?” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 74. X-tinguish Aurora knew she had to see what was going to happen. The predictions of the night sky activities were astounding to say the least. So the Slytherin had hidden upstairs at curfew before sneaking up by candlelight to the Astronomy tower and perched in a window well to wait. She woke up stiff and in shadow, not even remembering falling asleep. The candle must have gone out and Aurora moved to light it again but stopped as the light outside her window caught her attention. The meteor shower! There was no need for flame, the sky gave its own illumination. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 66. Pace Her father paced across her vision, passing her every few minutes as if he was struggling with something Aurora could not begin to think of. Nothing had gone wrong, at least from her point of view. “Aurora…you have to be careful on who you trust,” the elder Sinistra finally said breaking the silence while he still moved. “Slytherin or not, mudbloods of any kind are not like us.” “Then why would the hat have sorted them into Slytherin’s house?” Aurora remarked in her defense, the young woman questioning part of her heritage’s pickiness over blood. “Because it belonged to Gryffindor.” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 60. Joke Aurora groaned coming into her office after a mid-morning staff meeting. Her desk seemed even worse of a mess then it had beforehand as if the house-elves and owls were all playing a cruel joke on her. So not funny. She shifted though the piles to look them over. Within them, Aurora spotted the red envelope of a howler shaking violently and cringed picking it up. As uncertain as she was to its contents, the last time she had let one explode it had taken forever to clean up. The room was soon filled with a screaming parent’s voice. Sigh. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 26. Quill NEWTs were upon the seventh year residents of Hogwarts School. And Aurora was no different from most of the students, studying frantically for the exams that meant so much in the wizarding world. Pass---Fail---somewhere in-between? The seventh year Slytherin was trying to do her best in all her subjects…even if astronomy seemed her future focus. She started nibbling absently on her the feather-shaped object in her hand as her nerves continued to set in. It took her a moment to realize why it tasted bad, the young woman making a face in response. “Eww.” Sooo….not a sugar quill. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 30. Feast Not for the first time Aurora wondered why she hadn’t insisted on staying at Hogwarts for the holidays. Anything that would have gotten her out of her mother’s dinner parties would have been a godsend. Including a stay in the hospital wing. “Aurora dear, how good to see you,” Dionne Sinistra greeted as she walked past the teenager’s staircase sanctuary “Making the house proud are you?” “Yes, Aunt Dionne,” Aurora returned, doing her best to returning the annoying woman’s greeting politely, Her aunt nodding and heading towards the banquet of food. And Aurora rolling her eyes once it was safe. |
