http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 55. Egg On “Overgrown bat…” “Greasy git…” It was just another disagreement between the two Slytherin professors. Sure they could manage to get along with each other better than the rest of the staff to each of them but they always had their moments. And now was one of them. Aurora was beginning to get frustrated in their verbal battle of wits that had dissolved into simple name calling. She knew she shouldn’t push him too far for worry he might lash out a bit too darkly but she couldn’t help it. Besides…If you can’t take the heat…don’t tickle the dragon. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 99. Trunk Aurora hated the last day of the school term. It wasn’t like she hated school and couldn’t wait for summer break; it was she absolutely hated packing. With a capital P. And it always seemed as if there was so much more in June then there was in September. “Get in there…” she grumbled as she added her last bit of belongings and then struggled to close the cover of her trunk. The Slytherin girl finally collapsing on top of it with a relieved sigh. All was well. Until she heard the distinct sound of glass upon glass. Uh oh. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 95. Snowball Splosh! Aurora looked up from her book as the ice-packed snowball landed near her booted feet. “And you call yourself a chaser?” she remarked with a shake of her head at the Slytherin quidditch player in question who had so obviously thrown it. “Can ye do better, Sinistra?” he taughted, looking over at his friends and fellow teammates. He was answered by something cold hitting his chest sending him backpedaling towards the snowman the group had made earlier. “That answer your question?” Aurora mused, walking away as the boys laughed at their fallen comrade. “Someone needs to try-out next term.” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 89. Past She stared at the photograph in her hand, the personage within its silver frame far more life-like in the picture then they were in real life. Aurora tried not to cry, had felt herself cried out over the situation that made it so but apparently not. “Why did you have to do what you did? Why couldn’t you just leave it alone?” The woman had asked those questions many times before, ever since the young man’s death. But like before no answers came. She was just left alone to deal as she watched her younger self be happy with him. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 81. Depression The castle was dark…and not because of a lack of light. Not since Dumbledore’s death had Hogwarts been so dreary and it seemed appropriate that the cause of the present situation was in part the effect of the past incident. Severus Snape was back at the school and with it came He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named's firm hand on the school. Merlin help them all. “Aurora, dear,” Slughorn called grabbing her attention once more, her fellow Slytherin as at odds as she was with the take-over. “Probably best we get the house back to the common room.” “Yes Professor,” she said, turning and following. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 79. Author's Choice - Temptation “Have you ever thought of having a class earlier in the day?” “The dangers that are up here are quite numerous.” Those were just two of the statements coming from the ministry lady’s mouth that made Aurora want to roll her eyes. Did she not realize that to see the stars it usually had to be dark out? And the height of the tower improved visibility. Just do it…throw her off the tower. Not many would complain. Aurora nearly snorted, having the need to cough to cover up her response to the whispered words. “Something wrong professor?” “Nope…nothing at all.” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 57. Goblin It was a new experience. The wide-open opulent foyer that made up Gringotts was a new sight for Aurora Sinistra. Sure she had been to Diagon Alley hundreds of times with one or both parents but never taken within the walls of the wizarding bank. But as an eleven-year old preparing for her first term of school it was felt she should know how to handle access to their family vault. “Mum…what are they?” Aurora whispered eyeing the…people behind the counters as politely as she could to escape her mother’s reprimand. “Goblins…the best bankers. That’s all you need to know.” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 29. Pensieve You walk into a room…a wizened library in an English manor that had probably seen better days over the centuries. It is lit with candles, orbs of light, the images reflected in the mirrored panes of the windows looking out into the darkened sky. You think your alone there until you notice an older woman clearly lost in her thoughts or rather memories with her head in the bowl on a table. Her hair is silvery black as she finally pulled away from the swirling mist of her past. “Grandmother?” You ask getting her attention. “Yes…Just spending time with ghosts.” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 39. Duel “Stick to star-gazing, blood-traitor!” the death-eater she was fighting shouted at her with a laugh between quick spells shot between them. Blood-traitor...that what she was and it took some getting used to for she had never thought of the recoil she would get fighting against her former housemates. They both survived the fight surrounding Dumbledore’s death only to find themselves pitted against each other once more as the battle returned to Hogwarts. Once more the insults were hurled her way but she was ready this time. “Why don’t you go back to school. You might learn better ways of intimidation.” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 41. Thestrals Nothing seemed odd when the carriages started off on their own. Hogwarts was magical and having been around magic all her life, Aurora just assumed it was all charmed to work that way. However when she got off the ride at the gates and came around the front she thought she heard the exhale of a horse. The young girl quickly turned around and spotted nothing in its place. “At ease, Aurora,” she told herself. It wasn’t until years later that Aurora ever got to see the creature that had surprised her that first day. The one she HADN’T imagined. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 85. Snappish Aurora could be as brave as any Gryffindor but there were too many of them. And their sharp, snapping teeth didn’t exactly make you want to let them anywhere near you. So there she was hiding under one of the tables in the library, her books from studying still laid out on top as others ducked around for over. Whoever thought it would be a funny prank had obviously not realized just how troublesome and uncontrollable pixies could be. CRASH!! There went another book…or a dozen off a nearby shelf. So much for trying to escape or grabbing her wand. Inspired by Mad Ravenclaws and their love of trouble. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 73. Warn She had been down near the library helping with rounds when it had happened. That was how Aurora had been away from the excitement. Death-eaters were in the castle, the dark mark exploding in the sky above the towers added proof and she rushed, wand raised to assist. Then she heard it….Snape had been involved and Dumbledore was dead. How had she not known? Forget the other houses…shouldn’t she have seen the signs from her former housemate. Or had she conveniently missed connecting the warning he himself had left which lead her to be absent from her tower? Coincidence…or no? |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 13. Quidditch Game day. At it looked like anybody and everybody not playing was up in the stands to watch the match. Aurora included, dressed warmly like most of the smart students on this blustery day. Her Slytherin-striped scarf wrapped around her throat. So far both teams were evenly matched, the sixth year’s hands clapping together in celebration of the one team’s accomplishments. “Go Slytherin!” she managed to let out after one goal in particular, a green-clad chaser turning and catching her gaze as if actually hearing her words through the rush and cheering. Did Matthias just? Yeah he did. Cue blush…heartbreaker. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 17. Cauldron Then add the jobberknoll feathers and stir 3 times counterclockwise with a wooden rod. Those were the latest instructions printed in the textbook and the Slytherin obeyed. “Miss Sinistra, how are you coming there?” Professor Slughorn’s voice reminding him she wasn’t alone in the lab. “Fine Professor…” she answered, adding a quiet “…I think.” She was following all the directions correctly but when she looked inside her cauldron she wasn’t sure the color was close enough to what it was supposed to be. When it started shaking uncontrollably she knew she was done for. So much for her memory potion. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 9. Defense Against the Dark Arts Unlike the previous teachers that had taken the post, Mr. R.J. Lupin was not a complete stranger to Aurora. They had, after all, been classmates when the schedule deemed to put Slytherin and Gryffindors together which was often despite their animosity towards each other. Taking it upon herself to visit the man one night, she walked to the classroom. Hearing a wolf howl, she turned quickly around to investigate but there was nothing there. “Lupin?” The woman called out, looking around for her colleague once inside his office, the large moon shining through the window revealing nothing but emptiness. Moon…wolf…nah. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 15. Room “Tell me again why I agreed to work with that Gryffindor…” Aurora had made her way all the way up to the 7th floor only to wait forever for the other girl to show up. The Slytherin stalked off, debating just leaving but turned around remembering she really needed the help. Once more she turned and headed further away before turning back once more. Could she have gotten the times mixed up? About to leave she heard movement coming from behind her and turned only to spot a door appear where plain wall had previously been. "What in Salazar’s lair?" |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 67. Quell Astronomy had always been her favorite subject so it stood to reason the academic in her had Aurora reading anything and everything about the subject. But that only worked so far even in the large expansive stacks with Hogwart’s library. The astronomy professor sought to help, sending along an extra copy of his own subscription. When it arrived in the dungeons by the man’s owl, Aurora grabbed hold of it and headed straight to a quiet nook to look it over. The glossy pages catching her interest with its pictures and articles on the newest discoveries. Ah yes…she was satisfied. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 77. Cheerful The grounds and tress were sloughing off their late-winter covering as the weather started warming up. Spring was almost here and the happy feeling in the air was infectious. Even Aurora had to admit she was affected by it though be tempted to say it was because the warmer weather made it nicer to star-gaze late at night. Deciding to take a walk through the courtyard, the Slytherin girl happened upon a patch of early flowers peeking their way through the grass. She reached down and picked one, bringing it up to smell and smiling before hitting a snag. “Achoo!” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 61. Kiss “Time for bed, Aurora,” her mother called as she headed into her daughter’s bedroom. The girl seated on her window seat staring out into the night sky. “But mommm…I was looking at stars,” Aurora remarked as she turned around, pouting as only little girls can. “No ‘But mom’ now. It’s getting late and you need to sleep. The stars can wait.” With a sigh, Aurora slipped from her perch and headed to her four-poster bed, turning down the covers and laying down. The older Sinistra woman tucked her in with a smile and leaned down, kissing her daughter’s head. “Goodnight.” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 3. Transfiguration Rat into water goblet… Aurora raised an eyebrow at the whole concept. Sure she knew the art of transfiguration could change one thing into another, had done her fair share of such spells since she had started Hogwarts. But these two objects were very…very far apart. “Fera…Fera Verto!” she cast with a movement of her arm as she focused on the spell. Almost as expected nothing happened. Glancing up at McGonagall, she debated giving up but sighed and went back to her work. If there was anything she wasn’t, it was a quitter. “Fera Verto” Anyone want a rat-tail-handled mug? |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 53. Chase “Where is that blasted feline?” Aurora was looking everywhere for her familiar, Maia, just as playful and mischievous as the nymph she was named for. Alright the star was named for the nymph…the cat then named for that star. Nevermind that now... she had a feline to find, preferably before she got into Professor Giardia’s garden again. And then…one ash grey cat made its appearance a few short feet away as if taughting her owner. “Maia, come here!” But before she could move any closer, the feline had jutted off and the Slytherin followed after with a sigh. “Bloody cat…” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 47. Portkey The air was cool as it blew across the winding coastline. Her dark brown locks were following the breezes path as she stood on a rocky outcropping overlooking the beach and admiring the New Year’s sunset. She had been right in taking the holiday in the Mediterranean. It’s warmer weather reminding her of her home. Her fingers fiddled with the keychain in her hand until it grew warm with the glow of the spell, letting her know it was time. With a sigh she disappeared, the portkey transporting her back to the cold Scotland winter and her duties at Hogwarts. |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 7. Care of Magical Creatures “And now take your blast-ended skewt…” Aurora was tuning the professor out, her attention on the creature in front of her. It was hideous, its name only making it more something you didn’t want to spend too much time around. And all they had to deal with them was dragon-hide gloves. Finally she pulled her gaze away and looked over at her nearest fellow student, catching on after a few moments of watching his actions on just what the professor had asked them to do. Her eyes widening as she looked back at the creature. They had to do WHAT?! |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 11. History of Magic "So...we're magical?" Aurora was still coming to terms with the idea. Sure she had witnessed magic being done in front of her for as long as she could remember, but the idea of magical and non-magical folk was hard to balance out. "Yes, we are. And always have been." A father's attempt at instilling pureblood thoughts at a young age. “Why? What makes us different?” The inquisitive seven year old asked looking up, brown eyes to gray, the elder to his credit looking a tad unsure of what to say. “Well...it started…um…Are you sure you wouldn’t want a story instead?” |
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/Image5-1.jpg 59. Ignore Aurora was really thinking she should have just forgotten the note. Yeah, that would have been better than sitting across from Flitwick and Pomona being asked what she was being asked. “It wouldn’t be that hard…they’ll still rehearse with me I just need someone to fill in for Halloween since I’ll be away.” The diminutive professor just didn’t know what he was asking. “And I thought of you since you have the musical background,” Pomona said adding her two cents. She did know and yet she still asked. Why did she feel like she had no choice. Aurora Sinistra…choir director. |
