“Sorry! I’m not trying to do that, I swear,” Neville insisted. He was trying to practice his dueling with Seamus, but for some reason every time he waved his wand, he ended up zapping his friend instead.

“Neville! Stop it!”
“I’m trying!” Neville said once more. This was unbelievable—usually it was SEAMUS who was causing pain to the other person, not him. He usually just failed to get any effect out of his dad’s old wand.
Neither of them noticed Malfoy hiding in the bushes, zapping poor Seamus every time Neville held up his wand.

Homework Help
Getting help from Hermione in History of Magic was probably just as boring as sitting in the actual class.
How was it possible for someone to know this much about goblin rebellions? As she went on and on about all the key players in the rebellions and their impact on the world today, blah blah blah, Neville pretended to take notes, but after a while he got distracted. It was ok though, cause she didn’t even notice.
In the corner, he drew a little heart, and started tracing the letters H.A in the middle of it over and over again.

Half-Blood
All through Muggle Studies, Neville could tell Hannah was uncomfortable. It was only to be expected, of course, since she was a half-blood and Carrow was up there talking about how horrid muggleborns were. He was shocked she had even returned for the year, to be honest.
He wasn’t paying attention to the lesson—he was blocking out the horrible things Carrow was saying, and instead was watching Hannah get more distressed with each passing moment.
When class ended, Hannah bolted from the room, and Neville followed. Without a word, he walked up to her and gave her a hug.

Wedding Speech
“’The dictionary defines love as’… too generic.” Neville mumbled to himself.
He scribbled out the line he had just written and looked down at the ruined parchment. Neville was going to be Seamus’ best man at his wedding to Lavender, and since Neville couldn’t think of anything witty to say about their relationship (he still thought Lavender was a nutter and therefore avoided them as a couple as much as possible) he was going with the sappy “love is awesome” speech instead.
He was just going to need a little help.

Astronomy Practical
So much for taking the Astronomy OWL.
Everyone’s attention was focused on the scene at Hagrid’s house. Why were they bothering him in the middle of the night? Umbridge probably hadn’t wanted to make a scene. You know, to save her reputation and all.
He watched in horror as McGonagall tried to step in, only to get stunned moments later. People around him started to panic, and no one was thinking of star charts anymore—what if McGonagall was seriously hurt?!
Yes. It was safe to say that when his Gran saw his Astronomy OWL she would NOT be pleased.

Harry's Wish Fulfilled
There had been no thinking required. He saw the handle sticking out the hat, he grabbed the sword, and just like that, Voldemort’s snake was no more.
Now, Voldemort was teeming with anger, and Neville knew the end was near.
What did he expect? At least he would die knowing he had fulfilled Harry’s last wish—that was all that mattered.
Suddenly, something stopped him. An invisible shield of some sort went up between the Dark Lord and himself, and he took his chance.
He jumped up to his feet and, without a second thought, ran and rejoined the battle.

The Next Morning
Despite the fact that many had perished the night before, Neville found himself rather cheerful the next morning.
He felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of his shoulders, and even though he was holding back the sadness he felt from all the deaths, it was a good morning.
Numerous students (and adults) had gathered around him, looking at the sword and telling him what a hero he was as he blushed. Hannah was sitting next to him, secretly holding his hand under the table, away from prying eyes.
It felt good to finally be noticed by people.

A Day Out With the Boys
Neville, Dean and Seamus were all in the stands at a Chudley Canons game, cheering on the team as the players whizzed past them.
“This is an awesome game today! I’m really glad you could come out, mate!” Seamus shouted at Neville over the cheers. Due to all the wedding planning, Neville hadn’t been able to see his friends in ages.
“Yeah, I got the day off,” Neville joked. “Hannah said she could go shopping for tablecloths as long as I told her what I wanted.”

Explaination
It was going to be an awkward conversation. Neville was sure of it. Harry was sitting on his bed across the room, staring at him as he stared back. Finally, he asked him.
“How’d you know?”
Harry was quiet for a moment before explaining. “Well, Dumbledore has a pensieve, and I went into his memory of the Lestrange trial,” he told him.
That made sense. Dumbledore having a pensieve was totally believable. Neville said nothing else, so Harry got up to leave. Neville knew he wouldn’t tell anyone.
Harry stopped suddenly. “Your Gran is right Neville. You should be proud.”

Nap Time
All Neville wanted to do was take a nap. Unfortunately that was just not possible in the common room.
He knew if he went to sleep in his bed, he’d sleep the rest of the afternoon away, but Seamus and Dean were arguing loudly over which was better—football or Quidditch.
“What’s athletic about flying?” Dean insisted. “Running is way more intense!”
“Anyone can kick a ball! It takes SKILL to ride a broom, though!”
Groaning, Neville grabbed his pillow, stood up, and moodily stomped up to his dorm.

The common room was a complete disaster, and it was all because of one person—Neville Longbottom.
No one seemed to mind that he was tossing around everything in sight, although a few were looking at him like he had two heads. He was turning over couch cushions, looking under the armchairs…all with one goal in mind.
Finally, after an hour of searching, he let out a yell and lunged, cupping something in his hand.
As he got to his feet, the head of a small toad was poking out of his hands.

Putting Up a Front
Neville was putting on an act. He had to, he had no other choice—he had to be strong for everyone else.
The truth was the punishments from the Carrows were starting to take a toll on him. He had so many bruises and marks on his body that he barely recognized his face at times. His whole body ached, but he still mouthed off to them, and it inspired everyone.
He had no choice. He was their leader now, and this was what he had to do. In the end, it would all be worth it. He knew it.

Apparation Lessons
He had never traveled by portkey. He never had any desire to. Flying was out of the question too, and after today’s lesson—he could pretty much rule out apparition as well.
He had FINALLY managed to apparate into his circle today and the sensation was NOT very pleasant at all. Who wanted to feel like they were suffocating every time they had to travel someplace?Plus the possibility of splinching was just…blehhh.
So he decided he would just go the muggle way and walk wherever he wanted to go. Or maybe he’d get a car!
Anything but apparition would do.

Practice Makes Perfect
If someone had told Neville that he’d be one of the first people to master the Shield Charm in the DA, he would have thought they were lying.
When the time came to practice, however, it turned out to be a simple spell, and eventually he found himself conjuring a shield that rivaled Hermione’s. It irked him just a bit when everyone was so shocked—did they really think he was THAT incompetent?—but he was proud of himself.
If only he could tell his Gran! She’d be so happy…but he’d rather not have to explain the illegal DA meetings.

Leg Locker Curse
Everyone thought it was a hoot. Neville, however, did NOT find the situation amusing at all. He managed to hop all the way to the common room, on the verge of tears the entire time.
Malfoy was such a big BULLY. He wished McGonagall had been there to dock five billion points from Slytherin. Why did they always pick on him?! Why not Seamus or Dean?
He was thankful Hermione undid the curse in the common room, but that didn’t change the horrible fact that no one had helped him at all as he hobbled along to the seventh floor.

To the Hogs Head
Whenever Neville went to Hogsmeade, he always had a feeling that he was about to lose a lot of money on pointless things he didn’t need. He was an impulse shopper—he couldn’t help it.
But today, he had a purpose. They were going to come together and do something about Umbridge, he just KNEW it.
Not only did he want to learn to protect himself if You-Know-Who was really out there, but if he failed his DADA OWL, his gran would KILL him.

Pondering
For once, Neville wasn’t thinking about taking out his anger on the Carrows during class. Instead, he was silent, chewing on the tip of his quill and periodically glancing at Hannah across the room.
Ernie and Hannah had officially broken up six months ago today. That meant that enough time had passed, and he could ask her out without worrying about her saying ‘it’s too soon’.

Catching Up
He had been so focused on the future, and fighting the Carrows, that he had forgotten to think about the present time. It was understandable though. They had been at war!
The thing was…he had missed NEWTs. All the seventh years had. Without NEWTs, he pretty much had NO chance at ever finding a job, so that meant only one thing.
Summer school.
It was a special program they were holding this year for all students to catch up on schoolwork.
He supposed he could have it worse. He could have missed an entire year like Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Third Year Schedule
Numbers made his head hurt. After borrowing just one of the books Hermione had checked out a year in advance on Arithmancy made him want to throw up, so that was another class he was definitely NOT taking. Muggle Studies was boring, so that was a no as well.
Perhaps he could take Divination? He had heard a few rumors about the professor, and how she was a bit of a nutter, but no one could be worse than Snape.
Or Lockhart, for that matter.
Seriously, how bad could it be?
On his schedule, he scribbled in Divination under Herbology.

Resistance
The Death Eaters thought they had quelled the resistance at Hogwarts with their beatings and detentions. They had no idea how wrong they were.
The DA was officially reformed, and despite the fact that they were all being tortured pretty hard to give out information, no one budged. Neville was proud—and he was super proud of Luna and Ginny for helping him run the whole thing. Without them, he wouldn’t have been able to reform any of this.
Their time would come. In the meantime, the Death Eaters could continue to think things were quiet. They were so wrong.

Lavender and Ron had managed to squeeze themselves onto one armchair, and they were snogging without a care in the world. It was like they didn’t mind that everyone was STARING at them in disgust.
Not only that, but Neville felt so bad for Hermione. Sure, his crush on her had fizzled out ages ago, but it still hurt him to see her hurt. Especially by RON. It was obvious that she liked him, judging by the way she stormed out whenever they were around.
Yeah, Ron was a git.

Sure, it was only a date, and who knew if it would work out between them or not, but still—she had said yes! He had a date with Hannah Abbott! HE, Neville Longbottom, had a date with HANNAH, the prettiest Hufflepuff who had ever walked the Earth.
He was so happy, he felt like loping across a giant open field and just yelling in excitement.
He wouldn’t do that, of course. That would be weird. It would also, most likely, be a deal breaker for Hannah.
And he was NOT going to mess this up.

Common Room Brawl
They had vexed him for the last time. They were going to get in trouble again! First they got him in trouble, now the whole house?
He wouldn’t let them do it. He was prepared to fight them!
He figured he’d have a good shot at stopping them at night, when the common room was empty.
Too bad he forgot how good Hermione was at magic.
In the end, he was petrified and flat on his back as they apologized over and over, staring at them with wide, horrified eyes as they went under the cloak and into the night.

Proposal
“Neville, why are we so dressed up?” Hannah asked with a giggle when he picked her up.
He laughed and put his arm around her. “What, we can’t get dressed up and go to a nice restaurant without an excuse?”
She smiled and reached up to kiss his cheek. “No, I suppose not.”
“Oh! I forgot my money on your table…I’ll be right back,” Neville said suddenly.
“Ok, don’t take too long! We’ll miss the reservation!”
Neville hurried back up the stairs into her apartment, and reached into his pocket.
YES! The ring was still there.
Now, on to dinner.
