For those who belong in Slytherin House, on the right side of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Green banners containing an embroidered silver snake float above the polished table in honour of the cunning Salazar Slytherin. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages.

Though your stomach might be growling as you take a seat on one of the long benches next to the table, it is important to not get hangry -- gnawing your arm away or jabbing your fork repeatedly on the surface of the table will do no good whatsoever. Give everyone some time to get settled in and wait for Headmaster Winterbottom to deliver his speech. Keep yourself preoccupied by catching up with your fellow housemates or those who are visiting from the other tables until it is time to sink your teeth into the hearty and delicious meal prepared by the house-elves.

Ary was a tad disappointed that Slytherin’s streak with House Cup wins had been broken. He consoled himself by remembering that all things must come to an end at some point and that next term was another chance for the Snakes to pick themselves back up. Not that second place was bad. Or that they had lost to Gryffindor. He imagined Professor Feirgrund was rather happy. Since Ary liked the man so much, naturally he too couldn’t help but be thrilled about the win also. Plus, there was the Quidditch title which Slytherin held this year. As for Gobstones, he didn’t want to think about that. What a disaster THAT had been.

The guy plopped himself down at one of the benches at his House table, glad to be free of the pressure of OWL exams. He was determined not to dwell on the impending results; all Ary wanted to do was to have a great vacation - spending time with the ones he liked - and Artax the Mooncalf - and of course, helping out on the Reserve.

While he waited for the speech and for the food, Ary took the time to work with a couple of brown paperclips, twisting them into the form of an owl. A tribute to the recent conclusion of his exams? You could say that.

How was Jan doing? He was doing okay. The sixteen-year-old was pleased with their house winning the Quidditch Cup, it was quite a battle year-round. The house cup? Mildly disappointing... but he couldn't be down for long when seeing how happy his little brother was and it had been a long time since they won much, ahem. As for Gobstones... well, he had other concerns besides their place there.

Now that the O.W.Ls were out of the way, his brain could rest. He had a fun trip ahead in India to look forward to. "Hi, buddy." Jan said as he landed next to Ary. He seemed to be very concentrated with making a shape with those paperclips. "Ooh, that's a clever looking owl. Looks good." Even though Ary didn't tell him, he could sense something troubling him, so he wrapped his arm around to give him a quick side hug, patting his shoulder. That's what best friends did, help each other without a word.

"You know my mom said it's okay if you come over for dinner again. Your family is welcome to." Jan smiled. They had a few days before his trip for most of the summer. He was excited but also had a little feeling like he was missing out on something else.

If anyone thought the first year's attitude insufferable before, they would be comparing that version of herself to a pygmy puff now. The brunette strolled into the end-of-term feast with her head high, confidence turned up to an eleven, and positively glowing in the aftermath of Slytherin’s Quidditch Cup victory. The House Cup? Whatever. Gobstones? Puhlease. The only thing that truly counted was quidditch and that Slytherin had won and she, Calliope Barrington, had been instrumental in that victory. Alaric was still holding on to her signature, right? It was going to be worth galleons upon galleons someday.

There had been those with doubts, morons the lot of them, since first years as starters was surprising due them not being eligible for the U-17 team yet or whatever else excuse, but from the moment she had taken her position alongside the Jansher Grunt (a Chaser but practically a human bludger in his own right, unstoppable and always in the right place at the right time) and JT Forsfelle (a third-year with hands like glue and the instincts of a Seeker when it came to setting up plays), she had belonged out there and they had become quite the dynamic trio. It was only a shame her name didn't start with a J too so they could have been 'Triple J' instead of JJC. Their youngest beater and fellow petite Miss, had been an absolute menace this season, Teagan's aggression making up for any lack of size. And good luck to anyone who thought they’d get past Riley Ravens. The seventh-year had played like he was personally offended by the concept of opposing Chasers and had hair game that rivaled dad's. And Charlie Buckthorn? The rock of their team, their captain, their wall in front of the hoops—who had never once let the pressure shake him. Bryony had made the perfect final play, snatching that Snitch in the Championship match so decisively that Ravenclaw heads must still be spinning from the shutout.

Skipping over the benches littered with younger classmen, Calliope beelined towards Jansher and slid into the seat next to the fifth year without hesitation, effectively cutting off whatever conversation he’d been having with some non-Quidditch housemate she barely registered (hello or whatever, she was polite enough to make eye contact). "Grunt," she greeted breezily, propping an elbow on the table and smirking at him. "Tell me...on a scale from ‘extremely’ to ‘downright legendary,’ how satisfying was it watching the Ravenclaw team spiral into despair in that final match?"

And someone, please, tell Calliope—on a scale from ‘extremely’ to ‘I never want to hear about it again’—just how tired they were of discussing the final match, considering it had been weeks.

JT arrived at the snake table to hear the tail end of Calliope's chatter to Jansher. Seriously could she just give it a rest? There wasn't anything left to discuss about that final quidditch match against Ravenclaw. They had won the Quidditch Cup, and that was awesome! Taking a seat on the bench not too far away from Jan and Calliope he busied himself with turning his napkin into a heart shape writing Iris and his name in it with a red coloured pen. Could the feast start already, JT was starving and wishing that he sat next to Iris over at the Ravenclaw table.

Despite his feelings - all of it having to do with him bearing the weight of being a failure, especially since Dad Adi and Dynah were such naturals at Gobstones - Ary was determined to not dwell on it. That would be dangerous because he knew he could easily tumble down a proverbial rabbit hole. That was why Jan’s familiar voice and presence was welcome. “Hi, Jan.” His tone was even and there was a slight frown on his face as he tried to shape a wing properly. “You think so? No need to give him specs then, to emphasise his intelligence?” Ary’s lips twitched upwards at his little joke.

That would be correct: Ary had not told Jan - or anyone else - how he had been feeling lately. He knew he should have since he had an excellent support system around him. But Jan saw right through him. That much was confirmed when he was given a brief hug and a pat on the shoulder. The bestie really did know him. Ary leaned a bit into the hug before Jan let him go but his mind felt genuinely lighter. “You’re the best.’’ he said simply, meaning it.

An invitation to hang out at Jan’s again! “I’m going to say yes right away! Your mum makes the best food, especially all those curries I fancy. Just… don’t tell my dads I said that?” In his opinion, Jan’s mum only seemed to improve her cooking everytime he tasted her food. “How long are you going to be in India?” He was excited about his friend being able to visit the country. His grandmum on Dad Adi’s side had moved from there earlier in her life, though Aunty Sanjana - his twin sisters’ surrogate mum & Dad Adi’s cousin - still resided there.

Ary was about to offer suggestions about where had the best sites when the guys were, in his opinion, rudely interrupted by Calliope. He met her gaze for a second, mentally shrugged then turned his attention back to the paper clip owl. Fading into the background was something he had always been good at, anyway. Sorry, JT, but the fifth year was too observed in his task to notice your presence. Or anyone else, actually.

The Great Hall buzzed with end-of-term energy—laughter echoing off the enchanted ceiling, plates ready to be piled with food, banners drifting from the rafters in flashes of red and gold. Gryffindor had snatched the House Cup from them by just 16 points, and though she had overheard a few Slytherins grumble about it earlier, Gillyweed didn't mind in the slightest. Let them have their moment.

Her mind wasn't on House points anyway as she settled in at the table. It kept drifting back to the parchment she'd be getting over the summer, sealed with a Ministry stamp and full of fate: her O.W.L. results. She had studied endlessly day and night; now that it was out of her hands, she just wanted to breathe.

And read. Properly. Not from textbooks with stained corners and underlined passages, but from her own teetering tower of books waiting for her at home. Herbology journals, aquatic plant guides, a new fiction series her mum had picked up in Diagon Alley... bliss.

She let her chin rest in her palm, half-smiling at the thought. A whole summer stretched out in front of her. No deadlines. No exams. Just quiet afternoons with her plants, the salty sea air she'd enjoy on a trip to Greece, and the crisp scent of new books.

Anyone that knew Bryony, and her housemates all did... Would know that this blonde was NOT pleased their house cup winning streak had come to an end. No, she wasn't a sore loser. Just.. they had been soooooo close! Right there within reach.. and then.. POOF! GONE. They did however do spectacular in Quidditch. So she was still thrilled about that.

Exhaustion was still at an all time high within her from completing all her OWLs exams. Yet, she didn't allow it to show. Exhaustion who? This girl didn't know what that was...

As for Aryan thinking he could be too distracted by his paperclip project? Think again boyfriend. As per usual for her, Bry dropped right down onto the bench beside him at their table. Without any thought about it her head found his shoulder and her hand found his, her pinkie very briefly wrapping around his and giving a gentle squeeze. Yes, she was being quite mindful that he was busy with something but she had to make her presence known. "Heyyyy, that's a cute little owl for your collection." The way she could sit for hours and watch him work on his creations was crazy but... She could watch him for hours and hours doing nothing at all.

Sure her attention may have been mostly focused on Ary right then but that didn't mean she didn't notice everyone else. Finger wiggles at her buddy JT and Gilly! Hiya dormie! Both Jan and Calliope both got the signature finger wiggle wave too. Was the younger snakette chatting about their win again? Bry couldn't really blame her, it had been one for the books if she did say so for herself. And.. she did.

Despite Slytherin's loss for the house cup - the Slytherin table was buzzing with excitement, seemingly from those on the Quidditch team. Tiffany was most definitely looking forward to giving her brother the biggest of hugs, having missed his presence. There was the possibility last September of him joining herself and Ariadne, but from his recent letters, Tiffany knew it to be wishful thinking now. At least she had Ari. And at least Johnny was content and doing just fine without them, though she hoped he missed her as much she missed him.

Looking forward to spending a summer reading in their treehouse, Tiffany quietly observed everyone, feeling the pangs of loneliness. Maybe her sister would come join her. Or maybe she should just go over to her table. Would anyone even notice her absence? They were wrapped up in the quidditch highs that doubted it.

On her way to the badger table, Ari made a nice u-turn and headed over to the snake table instead. Spotting her sister, she slid down on the bench next to Tiffany giving her a sideways hug as she did so, and interlocking their fingers. "Hi, sis! I miss johnny...do you miss him too? Do you think I can sit with you through the feast? I don't want to be alone tonight." And besides who at this table would care when they were just so in engrossed in talking about winning the quidditch cup.

JT looked up from his heart shaped napkin creation as first Bryony who got a returned finger wiggle, and then Gilly took a seat at the snake table. He knew that Aryan had seen him too, but seemed reluctant to talk so JT let him be. He could sympathsize with wanting to not talk to everyone. Turning to Gilly he made an attempt to be chatty, and conversational asking his peer. "Hi Gilly, got any plans for the summer?"

Whereas Ary was simply content with letting everyone - and the world around him in general - be busy and noisy while he sat in silence, Bry was not. This was okay with him. Between her and Drake, he spent a lot less time speaking, anyway. He was just happy to let them both chatter on as much as they liked. Her taking the other side of him at the bench then promptly lapsing into PDA came as no surprise. Ary smiled without looking away from his paperclip project, not even when he bumped her head with his temple. The pinky squeeze was returned as he playfully remarked, “Aunty Hady’s probably watching us right now with those eagle eyes of hers.” He had a feeling she’d especially be confiding her observations to Dad Adi since they were besties. “Thanks, Bry. Don’t you think his right wing looks a little off though?” The guy squinted. “It looks a little… lopsided?”

Quitting his obsession with the owl for a bit, Ary took a moment to look around at the Table once more. He spotted Gilly who seemed to be lost in some daydream, which was no surprise because knowing her, his friend was thinking about a book. There was also Tiffany and her sister, the latter whom Ary thought needn’t even ask if she could stick around. The rest of Slytherins wouldn’t mind, he knew, and he was certain Tiffany would like the familial company.

She'd caught Ary's gaze toward her only in her periphery as she was reflecting on the year behind her and on what lay ahead. It wasn't until she felt the familiar fingers of her lovely sister however that she glanced over and smiled warmly. "I don't think anyone will notice if you don't make a big deal. But you know I do." Miss Johnny, that is. She glanced up at the staff table as the headmaster was giving his closing remarks. Wowza! There was to be a lot of changes in the coming term so it seemed. But she wasn't really going to think too much about that, because her brain was set into summer break mode. There would be plenty of time to contemplate the changes come September.

"Is it just me or is it just really hard to make friends as a transfer student? I'm thinking maybe joining a club or two next term. But not really a quidditch person." Dad would be so disappointed if he heard her say that. It wasn't that she couldn't fly. She was pretty sure if she wanted to, she'd be an asset to the team. But she wasn't that competitive. And gobstones wasn't really her cup of tea of either. Speaking of tea - couldn't there just be like a tea club? Where you drink tea and eat scones and not think about life?
