Were they finally leaving? Well thank Merlin. This cell was getting too crowded and FAR too annoying. After the last of them had shut the door behind them it became impossible to know the Head of Department for Mysteries had arrived but she assumed the moment he did he could clarify--unless this woman finally stopped being difficult long enough to clear her own name.
Alexa rolled her eyes at the sass and gestured for her to retrieve her ID. This woman was full of the stuff. Never a moment to stop and realize that that's what got her here in the first place.
Cruddy way to spend a lunch hour too. Desserts gone and all she had in their place was a difficult 'employee', a headache, another room full of annoying people and perhaps a rash. Her allergy to stupidity had begun acting up and she was powerless to do anything but imagine the itch she could not scratch.
Lex had other questions, sure, but she doubted the next could be 'why are you so dumb' because the overzealous crew back in the next room would surely bolt in, hair blazing, wands raised and arguments fired against her way of doing things. Professionalism would get her further--despite this woman not seeming to know how to reciprocate every time she tried. Courtesy and manners were wasted on this lot and it's why she always thought they were better left on the cat. "In the mean time, you can explain to me why you were so edgy and defensive the moment I asked you for ID." Lex must have done it a million times and no one else seemed bothered.
Truly suspicious behaviour whether she realized it or not.

Elizabeth surpressed the urge to roll her eyes at the young employee again. This 'child' was obviously going to play this out for all it was worth. Even when she KNEW that she was rightfully wrong in arresting her. But she again obviously didn't get much for action seeing as she was arresting her for something to stupid.
So very slowly just to anger the woman Beth pulled out her ID

There was her stupid ID. "I got defensive because you had already assumed from the very begin with your suspicious eyes that I did not belong here!" Beth said thinking back to the young woman accusing her with her eyes from the very beginning. Beth wanted to start shouting that who gave this employee the right to be arresting people anyway. Especially since it was so very clear that she didn't have the AUTHORITY to arrest anyone.
Fascinating, truly remarkable... Carter-Hope had lost her wand. Hilarious, and so very disappointing at the same time. Then there was Dakest, seemingly playing good cop. And of course Ms Blanc appeared to be having a good time of it all. Hah.
He was still assessing and making out the nature of this particular arrest when another warm body joined him.
Mr. Mitterbill.
"So good of you to join us, are you able to shed some light on this matter?" the Irishman asked, grinning as he turned toward his fellow department head and away from the discussions occurring between the others. Of course, at the mention of Polyjuice Potion, he couldn't help but be excited. This was shaping up to be a very interesting day indeed.
"I don't see why we need to cut this discussion short, what's the worst that could happen?"
Really, the girl wouldn't be missed from her 'work', would she?
"But, I can clear it up. That is Elizabeth Greene. She works for my department as an archivist." The words were coming out and Jasper Mitterbill had not realized just how naive they were. He was of the mind that Mr. Rainey was not a fan of having bodies in cells which did not belong there. And even, perhaps, that a conviction toward justice would've trumped a good many things.
But then Mr. Rainey didn't seem to be in any sort of rush to end the questioning. "Well maybe nothing bad will happen, but I don't see the need to prolong it when I can confirm who she is right now." Was Mr. Rainey a reasonable man?

Alexa had all the time in the world, in fact, she had more now that she was in here holding an interrogation. No doubt her lunch hour was almost up so this moved back into the sphere of being work. The woman could take all the time in the world to fetch her ID. Didn't bother her. She determined the speed of this little meeting so if she wanted to go slow, hey, who was Lex to say otherwise?
Upon finally receiving the ID, Lex squinted down at it, finding it a little curious. Her head tilted this way then that as she gave it a look over. The explanation offered by her company was disregarded. There had been no suspicion when she first asked, it was an innocent enough question...until the lady got defensive. They could argue this all day and get nowhere so she chose to focus on something else.
"If you work in Mysteries, how come your ID doesn't say classified or list you as an Unspeakable? Isn't the work you do so guarded you aren't even allowed to talk about it?" Lex paused, flipping the card one way then the next. "Didn't even know they had Archivists down there." Which she suspected was the point of all the secrecy but that turned into such a waste the moment one carried around a card displaying exactly what they did.
"This the best you got?" If so, it was plenty odd.

Dear Merlin!!!! Was her very official Ministry ID not going to get her out of this. "Well I'm not an unspeakable." Beth was trying to explain. She worked the Department, but wasn't an unspeakable. She was the keeping of secrets!!!! Most people new about the stuff that went on down in her archives, it just wasn't all completely public knowledge. Jeez.
"I'm not sure what more I can tell you. I work here, I showed you my ID. You obviously are making huge efforts to discredit me. And that's your problem. But There is nothing left for me to tell you." Beth was very near getting up and ready to walk out......but she was also sure that there probably wouldn't be a way out. They would have made sure of that.

Oh? He could clear it up, could he? Weeeeeeellll... he was listening.
Listening and not convinced.
Rainey chuckled beside the Mysteries Department Head. "So you say," he acknowledged. "And how are you to confirm that she is who she says she is?" Were they going to play 100 questions? He loved that game, but if that was the case then he might as well let his own employees do the asking.

Alexa was TRYING to understand, believe it or not, because the sooner she did was the sooner she could ditch this woman and go take some practice in the Training Arena before she had to go...writing reports....ugh, just ugh--but the woman wasn't helping herself at all. Lex rubbed at her temples figuring this woman might have been newer than she was, or maybe she'd just never bothered to read her handbook.
"See, that's the problem. You're either an Unspeakable or you don't work in Level 9 at all and if that's the case this ID is fraudulent and you're looking at some serious charges." How was she not getting this? "I'm not trying to discredit you, you're doing that all on your own by fumbling through the questions I ask then getting all worked up over the simplest thing--makes you look twitchy to me."
By now Lex wasn't sure the woman WAS hiding anything but she wasn't given much reason to believe her either.
"Do you understand how Level 9 works at all?" Lex wasn't an expert on the level by any means but it didn't seem like this lady was either. Circe.

~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~
Sky's question softened his irritation, if only just a little bit. While constant vigilance hadn't seemed to have crossed her mind, it could be forgiven. Goodness knew he had oversights when he was a YATI. He offered her a shrug. "It's best to always assume they don't work." Double the security if they did work, and at least there was some buffer if they didn't.
As for why? He shrugged again. "Some people like potions. And you could argue the risk of is more tempered."
Unlike the Assistant. His patience wavered and his eyes narrowed as he listened to Annabelle and watched as her transform herself into that annoying reporter from the Orientation. So, that had been her. Was he supposed to be impressed? Amused maybe? Humbled?
Sabel regarded her flatly as he refrained from barking out the first thoughts that came to mind, specifically that she gave him no confidence in her judgement if she had believed his falsified story at the orientation. But, while he didn't appreciate the continual lack of appreciation for his experience and time with the MLE, and in the field, he wasn't going to throw the sentiment back at her and question her abilities. If she was good at detecting transfiguration, fine. She was good at it.
It was a mute point to him. "Regardless, it gives you no right to interfere in an officer's investigation in-front of the arrested or accused, trainee or not." How hard was it to understand? Maybe it wasn't his place to say so, what with Rainey there, but someone had to say it.
His attention slipped to the new addition to their little party, a man he surmised was the arrested woman's boss. Another Department Head? He'd never had the pleasure of meeting the man before, and gave him a short nod, listening with half a ear to his conversation with Rainey, and half an ear to Alexa's questions on the other side of the glass. While it hadn't mattered to him if the woman was who she, and others, said she was, his interest was slightly piqued. Did Rainey favor Alexa's suspicions, or was he testing the other Department Head?
Sabel eyed the two men, getting the vague impression that the interrogation between the two women wasn't the only one going on.

"I've just about enough of you." Beth stated matter of factly. "If you want to degrade my actual title of Archivist to 'unspeakable' then I shall remind you that you aren't even a real Auror yet." Beth was tempted to stick her tongue out at this point, but no, she was not a child like the one holding her captive. "I am on the newer side, so no I don't know every single thing about level 9 yet. But I certainly would no more than you." Beth added, she hated to admit that she was still newer, but if maybe just maybe that would get her out of this stupid interview.
"Now listen here, I've showed you my ID, which is what you asked for, I've told you I work here, a number of people have vouched for me already. And I think you are just enjoying holding me here. And seeing as you didn't really have the authority to arrest me, I'd rather this be over. I have much work to do an have been held up here long enough on your account. So either bring some on in here who can actually arrest me, for let me go. There HA! That will teach here, actually probably not. This girl seemed hell bent on keeping here forever. Jasper didn't miss the greeting from one of the MLErs, a mature, but not old wizard who was talking with the two other employees of Level 2. He would've greeted in return, but his chief concern was getting his archivist back. And Mr. Rainey was watching him, probably looking for a weak point of which Jasper was full.
The seer drew in a breath, thinking over Mr. Rainey's question and what sort of man he was versus what sort of man Jasper thought he was. Or assumed, rather. He'd only seen him briefly at the orientation. And, he'd only heard his name once from one of his employees which revealed not very much at all. Compassion, though. Always. And ever. "What if we could verify who she was by consistency of information?" That was a little vague, though. "During Miss Greene's first day on the job I brought a certain object down to archives to her. If I could tell you what that object is and Miss Greene could confirm that information...would you release her to me?"

This time Alexa did facepalm as the woman spoke. It was getting to the point where it was painful to listen and she didn't know how much more she could stomach. "YATI versus Auror...isn't the same thing as Unspeakable versus Archivist." This time she spoke slowly...deliberately, hoping the woman would at least understand. "Unspeakable is an official term used for those that work down in Mysteries. It's....not some form of downgrade--which you should know but you don't seem." It wasn't the same as being a YATI that needed to work your way up, it was something she already was.
"And believe me, I've had enough of you and your missing wits but I'm hanging tight so surely you can too."
Then the lady pulled that card. Wanting someone that could arrest her. "Well fine." Lex stood and stretched, happy to be out of the chair. "I'll find someone to arrest you because your story doesn't add up and your 'boss' hasn't shown up." She didn't have to tell her to STAY put did she? Or maybe this was something else she would need to spell out for her.
In any case Alexa walked to the door and exited, shutting it tight behind her so the woman wouldn't have any ideas.
"Hey, Sabel I need you to re-cuff Miss Ditz in ther--"
O_O
Whoa there. Lex halted at the door to the viewing room having seen not only the Head of Mysteries....but Rainey. Oh...man...The young woman immediately cleared her throat. "Good day, gentlemen." Ahem.......aheeeeem. Not so sure they were against this (because surely if they'd been watching and had a problem they'd have stopped her?) she turned to Sabel again. "She's asking to be arrested, will you do the honours?" Yes, she did completely forget that Mitterbill could clear the woman's name.

Definitely two joint 'interviews' going on. That had been Sabel's conclusion as his attention drifted more and more to the two men. Had Rainey planned this all along? Got Alexa to arrest a worker, just to bring the other Department Head down here? Truth be told, he wouldn't put it past the guy.
Sabel's attention went to the door as Alexa appeared in it, making him realize he had missed the most recent conversation behind the glass. She wanted him to do what now? Arrest the woman? For real.
His eyes slipped between the two department heads as he hesitated. Should he wait for Rainey's directive, or a resolution between him and Mr. Mitterbill? Likely not. Rainey had already given his opinion, if not directly, on the arrest and its continued existence. It would be undermining to him, to let the woman walk without sorting this out. As different as it seemed on the other side of the glass, the interrogation was now in Rainey's hands.
More importantly in Sabel's mind, however, was that it would be hypocritical of him not to back Alexa up at this point. And it would be determintal to let it go. As things stood, the woman behind the glass was right. She was being held unlawfully, and such news would certainly get around and come back to bite Alexa, and the MLE, in the rear. Time to make things official.
He let out a breath and pushed himself from the wall, ignoring whatever looks he was going to get from Annabelle and Sky, and nodding to Alexa as he moved past her and to the other room. The idea didn't make him bounce about with excitement as he pushed open the door and stepped inside, but at least this way Rainey could unfold whatever he wanted, under a legitimate arrest and the department wouldn't be attacked for it.
"Ms. Greene, is it?" Pulling the chair back, Sabel sat down and folded his hands in his lap, watching the woman for a moment before speaking. "I know you are upset about this whole situation, and I am sure we will have a resolution soon. However, for the moment, until matters are resolved I am afraid I must make things official."
He spread his hands, encouraging her to keep any immediate protest quiet. "Please understand, that as of this current moment, no charges have been laid and no records or marks against your person are in effect. I am here to back Ms. Cambridge's decision on placing you under arrest."
She would want a reason, no? He let out a breath. He hadn't been there at her arrest, so he would base it on what he had seen and heard up to this point. "Under the pretense of questionable identity and refusal to comply with, and hostility towards, an officer of the law." YATI or not.

Sky was silent, contemplating the whole idea of someone choosing potions over plain and simple magic. To her, potions were simply a time waster, but then, she was sure a lot of witches and wizards would say the same about her tendency towards muggle type things.
But she wasn't completely inside of her own head. She was listening to the conversation between Rainey and the other department head as well as Alexa and her captive. And she wasn't liking what she was hearing. What was Rainey's deal? Was he using this as an excuse to get all up in the Department of Mystery's business? She was feeling very uncomfortable about this whole thing. Wasn't liking it at all. She could understand the position that Sabel was in now, though, so the only look on her face was grim realization.
Rainey was using them all to plot......something. She just didn't know what.

He was listening, and was disappointed with what he heard.
Tsk tsk tsk. Was that really, truly, enough of a discriminating question? Hardly, in his opinion. "And what's to have stopped an imposter getting of hold of such information by way of torture or memory extraction? Hmmm? What's to have stopped, Miss Greene, from having disclosed that information to another party anyway?"
He needed convincing.
If it weren't happening to him (or any of his own) Jasper would've had to admit to himself that the constant vigilance he'd encountered in Level 2 that day was a bit exciting. It had a crime drama flare to it that his over-imaginative mind romanticized greatly. There he was in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement being questioned whilst his fellow Unspeakable was being interrogated.
The Cheetah patronus witch had stuck her head out of the doorway and greeted them. And as if nothing at all were the matter, Jasper smiled and waved back toward the witch. "Good evening, Miss Cambridge."
His thoughts then were immediately occupied once more on the things that Mr. Rainey was telling him. "Torture would not have worked. Nor would disclosing information freely. Miss Greene has no will of her own to do such things." So long as her employment packet of paperwork remained logged away in the vaults. "Memory extraction might be a possibility." But how much was possible to take from a person at a single go? And if you could only remove one memory at a time Jasper supposed that they couldn't have taken all of Miss Greene's memories. There could still be something he knew about the archivist that could be used as a reference.
Jasper watched as the older MLEr who'd acknowledged him earlier joined the Cambridge witch and took a seat near Miss Greene. Turning back to Mr. Rainey, he asked, "How do we know if her memory has been extracted?"
½ EagleBrain ♥ Creeperdoodle ♥ Raven Dor ♥ Berry ♥ ½ Team House Elf
And op! Look at that! Magic... marvellous, an arrest was being made - and too right - the treatment law enforcers got these days, there was no respect... that would soon change. At Cambridge's entrance, Rainey simply obliged her with a nod, his tight-lipped grin symbol enough of his pleasure at the turn of these events.
But he trusted Dakest to take care of the matter, it seemed there were bigger things to discuss. Rainey simply dismissed the parts of conversation he deemed irrelevant to his cause, because torture was always fruitful when done right. It was the matter of memory extraction that piqued his curiosity. "Oh there are tests for those, diagnostics and so forth," he mused. Of course he wasn't going into specifics - those were so tedious in general conversation. "Once she has been processed and the issue of her formal identification is cleared up and done away with, I would be only too happy to see to it that she gets looked over - wouldn't want any of her memories pertaining to your work falling into the wrong hands." Nasty business that. "Leave it with me," unless Mitterbill had issues with that? It would be rude to turn down such a polite and helpful offer.
Sorry for such a late reply, I've had a family emegerency come up!
Mommy of 3 <3 <3 <3
Beth watched as the younger woman face palmed herself. "Excuse me, but have YOU ever worked on level 9. Do you know exactly what it is we call ourselves and everything there is to know. Oh that's right, I didn't think so, so you go a head and get someone who has more experience than you. And also I'm not saying another word until Mr. Mitterbill is here." Whew that was most Beth had been allowed to say since arriving in this for lack of a better word, torture chamber. Beth frankly had had enough of this place, how many times did she have to say it.
There was something fishy going on around here, that was for sure!!! Beth couldn't put her finger on it, but something major was going on, and they had better hope none of their secrets end up down in her archives. Plus this girl didn't understand in the first place, that whether or not she wanted to give her answer, Beth couldn't. She knew what she was getting into when she signed all her paperwork to start her new job. Alexa didn't have enough rank within her Department for Beth to give her any information period. It was nothing something of Beth's own will that she could do.
Beth stood up as Alexa left the room, seeing as she wasn't cuffed anymore and began to pace back and forth across the room, knowing that a group of people were behind the wall watching, Beth wouldn't cry, nope not a chance.
But then what's his name came in to actual arrest her? Dear Merlin, was this nightmare never going to end. "Do what you must." Beth added, what was she going to fight back? That would just get her into more trouble. "But like I told her, I can't tell you what you want to know, even if I wanted to I couldn't."

No protests? None? That was even better wasn't it? This meant the arrest was a go! Of course Lex kept as professional a look as possible but she might have been bouncing inside her mind. Somehow, looking at Mr. Mitterbill she felt like she was forgetting something but...it wasn't coming so she'd just follow Sabel back into the next room.
See the satisfied smirk on her face as she leaned against the door? That was the sign that she had won. Of all the idiots running in and out of this room since the moment they got it, Sabel was the ONLY one that understood the reason for the woman being here; he'd just said it all and the young woman simply nodded along. Didn't matter that no official charges were laid here, they had enough to detain her and Alexa made her way over to the two with a spring in her step before slapping a second set of cuffs on her.
"You can't tell us what we 'want to know' because you probably don't know it yourself." Even if this woman DID work in Mysteries she still had some catching up to do before it became believable.
"Given this is the holding cell, you can sit tight and my boss will figure what to do with you. Gotta say, it's not looking so great for you." With that, Lex turned to the mirror window and gestured for her boss to come in. The arrest was Sabel's her job, everything else was not. He wanted the cells filled and was very welcome.

Beth gave a heavy sigh, this was a nightmare. She watched as the 'child' slapped a cuff on her wrist. She didn't give into many emotions but Elizabeth Greene HATED this little girl. HATED her, and by jove Beth prayed with all her might that she would never have to see this girl again after this. Otherwise a jinx might just accidently on purpose make it's way over to her.
"You are a very rude person." Beth added as she sat in the chair waiting for her fate to be decided. "You don't understand, I've signed a binding magical contract that does not allow me to tell YOU anything. I hold secrets that you could only dream about it, and with that a certain amount of security needs to be taken so I'm phyically unable to tell YOU anything." There, ugh, done, conversation over right? Beth had had enough of all of this, how many times did she have to say who she was and that she worked for them, jeepers!

Oh the dramatics of it all... and really, it wasn't their faults per se, it was simply the nature of women; their folly. It was a curious that they ever did manage to secure positions in the workplace, and rights that were equal to man. Amusing.
"Please excuse me," he murmured to Mitterbill. It seemed his services were needed.
Exiting the viewing room, he entered the main area and allowed himself access to the cell containing his prized YATI and Ms Greene.
"Thank you Miss Cambridge, you may be dismissed." She'd done as instructed, made an impression... not he could have some fun. "Ms Greene, perhaps you could talk to me?" he asked, "I'm Elliot Rainey, the Department Head of Magical Law Enforcement, I hope that you will be willing to cooperate, it will make things much easier to clear up if you do."
In saying all this he seated himself opposite her. A casual but forced smile lifting his features, making his crows feet more prominent.
"Oh, and where are my manners? Would you like a refreshment? Tea? Coffee perhaps?"

Finally at least someone who wasn't a child and new to the Department. Beth felt maybe just slightly better knowing that girl was outta here! But then Elizabeth got a look at the Department head and something made her feel uneasy again...... She couldn't put her finger on it, but she felt like she needed to exercise caution around this man as well.
"Mr. Rainey." Beth said nodding in his direction. "I'd shake you hand, but they are occupied at the moment." Beth added nodding toward her cuffs again. "I've been attempting to cooperate with your young employee there. But she is trying to find fault when there is none." Beth added thinking of all the times the the YATI member simply wouldn't listen.
Beth was thirsty, she really was, she was more then tempted to take a drink, but the unease of the man infront of her made her think twice about it. What is he slipped her the truth telling serom. That would be no good. So smiling Beth simply replied. "No thank you, I'm okay."
Then finally adding. "So what is it I can do for you to get me out of here and back to work." Ugh, Beth shuddered at the thought of her in tray already.

She thought Lex was rude? HAHA, get in line lady. In truth, it didn't matter what she thought, only what Rainey thought and by all indications he was pleased...with her at least so Alexa allowed the spiteful little smile to slip onto her face before nodding to her boss at his dismissal.
Thank MERLIN she didn't have to stay any longer. This one was frustrating and she had other things to do now since the woman had apparently used up her entire lunch hour. Good thing she was never short on candy. A little snacking while she did dull paperwork never hurt anyone so long as chocolate didn't end up on the parchment. Easily done.
Not feeling like there was anything to be said, she nodded toward Sabel then made a much needed exit. The young woman might have stayed in the next room to watch but again, it was no longer her break and that would be wasting valuable time she could spend otherwise impressing the boss. Lex would have to watch the tape later when it got into evidence.
Yeah....that worked.

Rainey watched as Cambridge took her leave, and then Ms Greene had his complete and undivided attention.
She was spirited, was perhaps one way of describing her. However, he had no desire at all the shake her hand, this was after all, business. And one did not simply mix business with pleasure. "That's perfectly alright," the Irishman replied. Of course as the woman kept talking he suddenly felt the urge to silence her - but that wouldn't be conducive to this discussion he was trying to lead.
"Ms. Cambridge was doing her job thoroughly, I'm sure you can appreciate us conducting out work thoroughly, or else half of London would be down here, never mind the rest of the countrymen." Did she see his predicament? Probably not, but he wasn't interested in spelling out his woes to this one.
A pass on a drink suited him just fine, less effort, more time.
"What you can do for me Ms. Greene, is recount for me the events which brought you here, see I seem to have missed that part."

Beth still couldn't get over the fact that this man sent shivers down her spine. Who was he REALLY? Then again Beth shouldn't be so judgmental, after all she wasn't trained for security, so maybe the man just took his job VERY seriously? Who knows....but taking a deep breath.
"I was simply attempting to get coffee." Beth said trying to remember what actually happened to get her here in the first place. It felt like it was such a long time ago. "When I ran into your young employee there." Beth gestured with her head toward the door. "And I mean literally ran into her. She was offended, which I don't blame her, and she was instantly suspicious of me. She demanding to see ID, which again I'm sure if all part of your training here." Ugh, Beth could tell she was rambling and the man would probably get bored with the conversation before it had really even started.
"I wanted to know what made her so suspicious and she arrested me before I even had time to get my ID out. I will admit, I myself probably could have been nicer to her." Again Beth hated to admit she had been wrong about the situation but who knows, maybe it would get out of here faster. "She supposedly told me I had a choice in the matter, however, there was already a cuff on my wrist. And I also learned later, that she had no REAL authority to make an official arrest." Beth was trying to explain to Mr. Rainy that this was all really a simple misunderstanding. "And the rest of the story I believe you have watched and seen throwing the viewing room." Elizabeth wasn't sure if there really was a viewing room, but she believed there was.

Coffee... the woman spilled coffee on Cambridge. Well now that was hilarious - though the emotion didn't register on his face, rather he simply looked bored. Elliot did nod on the occasion, if only to show Ms. Greene that he was in fact listening.
As it was, this was boring, and while he liked filling cells... this one wasn't worth the trouble. She was all sorts of noisy, protesting and just irrelevant in the whole scheme of things.
"Right," he finally said, as if that term gave all the meaning in the world.
Rising from the seat he had claimed, he gestured to where he was sure Mitterbill was still standing, watching. "If you're sure she's yours, you can have her back," he mused, releasing the woman from her cuffs with a wave of his wand.
"You're free to go Ms. Greene, just remember to exercise more caution in future." Or something to that effect.
Alas, he had other places he needed to be, arrest warrants needed signing, and he had many things to follow up on.
