Mariel headed down the hall towards the Gobstones offices. She wanted to discuss some things with the Gobstones team and hoped to catch Saxon or any of the others before they'd go off to lunch. It wasn't urgent or she would have stopped by first thing in the morning, but she had a free moment in her schedule now so she figured it was a good time for her at least. Maybe they could even have a working lunch.
Not immediately seeing anyone as she first walked in, Mariel looked around a bit then took a seat at the nearest desk. Either they were at lunch already or maybe were in a different part of the department, she didn't remember giving out any external assignments though she knew minor ones didn't need to be approved by her. Seeing the latest issue of WSPM on the desk she opened it up to read an article. She could wait a few minutes to see if someone came back.

Damn owls, Victoria wondered as she made her way to the Gobstone's office if some shouldn't be placed as just pets not mail carriers. She lost count on how many letters she got on her desk that were suppose to be for Gobstones or how many were brought over to her that had been sent here.
Moving into the office she looked around for Saxon, but didn't see her. She wondered if the woman had been buried in paper work because she really couldn't remember the last time they had a conversation. Which reminded her she'd have to go visit Adam soon. It had been awhile since she had gotten to see her friends outside of work. The girls were asking to go play too.
"Hello?" She knew someone had to be working today.

Samson, having left the big boss lady's office only a few moments ago, finally found himself in the Gobstones office where he was supposed to be. All alone it seemed.. So.. like any other curious Sammy-cat, he was having a look around at his colleagues workspaces.. trying to gauge who he might be working with..
One of them liked cats. She had not one but three framed photographs arranged around her cosy looking desk... all of the same huge and ugly ginger tom. No partner; no kids. Samson deduced she was middle-aged and frumpy; one he could perhaps 'flirt' with and make blush to get her do to work for him... He moved on. This fellow (or lady, but Sam felt sure it was a guy) was OCD. Not a thing out of place. Files were all in order and his stapler and hole-punch were in perfect alignment. Sam decided to mess with this one, placing the stapler on cat-lady's desk. He sat and selected a file filed under 'S' and slotted in with the 'B's. He was about to empty the contents of a pencil sharpener onto the guy's desk when he heard a voice from behind. He jumped, swivelling round in his chair to face the old lady.
A smile of innocence established itself on his face. “Hiya.”

Victoria watched as someone was having some fun at his desk. She found it very curious that he was doing what he was doing with his files, but she figured if this is what kept Gobstone's organized who was she to question anything.
When she was noticed she smiled sweetly and moved closer, "Hello, I know we had met during the departments start meeting, but your name has slipped my mind. I do apologize." She was all about manners, but she couldn't help but forget names often. "Are you enjoying Gobstones so far?" She knew the season was about to get started, so it was probably getting pretty busy for them.
"There is an owl that likes to deliver mail to me instead of Saxon, can you make sure she gets these?" Showing the envelopes to the employee she looked around seeing if she could just see the Gobstones manager around.
Aw. She had a nice smile. Sammy automatically smiled wider in response. “Y'don't need to apologise. There's s'many staff here to remember evry'one. It's Sammy.” He nodded his head in the affirmative to enjoying Gobstones. “I find the it fascinatin'.” Truth. Fascinatingly ridiculous. But as Sammy had practically begged to be employed by the Ministry of Magic, he wasn't about to complain. What he'd ended up with was so much better than he'd envisaged. He truly believed he'd end up cleaning the Ministry toilets.. which would have been fine. Unqualified and just out of school, he would have gratefully accepted anything.
Saxon. Yep. Got it. She was the Gobstones boss lady wasn't she? He took the envelopes. “Aye. Sure thin'.” And then. “Do you need any help with anythin'? It's deadly quiet in here t'day.
we could move them to the game room and play a bit?

Sammy, got it, she wouldn't forget again. "There are, but I do make it a point to know everyone on level seven. As the Quidditch Manager it is good to know everyone in the other areas as well. We need each other at times and working as a team is always better if you know each other's names."
She couldn't help but smile more as he talked about Gobstones. "I played in school, as well as quidditch. I even helped with Uni's in Australia while I was living there with my ex husband. He was in the quidditch world with his company, so I had my hand in that as well. Sports are a bit my thing I guess you could say." A family thing really thinking about her son being on a professional quidditch team now.
Handing over the letters she smiled, "No I don't think I have anything right now, but I was just about to go on a break. We could head to the game room and play a game of Gobstones or something else." She always enjoyed a game in the game room, but no one ever seemed to want to play.
Sounds good. Do you want to move it on this post? <3
Yeahhh, Mr White! Yeah science!
That was good management right there. Getting someone's name right made them feel important.. like they mattered. It grated on Sam's nerves when teachers used to assume he was a 'Samuel' and not a 'Samson' (Layla's oh so affectionately annoying 'Samantha' didn't count). “You're the Quidditch manager?” He beamed brightly. “That's s'cool!” In this still fairly newly discovered world of magic, Quidditch had appealed strongly to Samson. Not quite up there with his precious Football, but he could see why it was so popular in the wizarding world. He asked forward a little in his seat and lowered his voice like he was about to let her into some secret. “What is your name?” He too had forgotten from the meeting.
He sat back again, smiling that pearly smile of his and listening. “Y'sound well travelled and experienced. I've played Gobstones (ish).. but never Quidditch. I'd love to have a go some time.” He nodded in agreement. “I'm dead keen on football. I wan'ed to go pro but I don't think that's gunna happen for me.”
Samson got up and put the letters on his claimed empty desk so he wouldn't forget to pass them on to Saxon, and turned back to look at the nice lady. “This job is top banana.” He grinned. He'd had part time jobs in the past where you had to look like you were doing something even if was quiet. Here, you got to play games! “Play Gobstones with me? I feel like I've gotta lot to learn.”
With being so busy with the Quidditch tournament coming up quickly and the departure of their Gobstones division manager, Mariel was somewhat worried that she was not giving her Gobstones team enough attention. She knew that they were doing a fine job - games were running smoothly and they were keeping busy. But she did want to touch base with them again and talk to them about their role in the upcoming Quidditch tournament. Even though it was not specifically in their division, she still needed their help as well.
Asking for their attendance for a brief meeting, Mariel scheduled a block of time to meet with and speak to her Gobstones team. It was not a formal meeting, just a little more than a chat with the group to see how things were going and assign some of their jobs. Heading into the Gobstones office, she took a quick look around, then set her things down on an empty desk as she waited for the others to gather.

Autumn was dealing with some Gobstones documents in the office. The games were running smoothly, with no players violating rules or cheating. Sometimes she wished they would do exactly that, so that she could enforce fines and stuff. Her thoughts wandered again to the Quidditch tournament, having heard that Mariel wanted to have a quick meeting with their division.
When she saw the Department Head heading into the office, the young woman got some parchment and a quill ready. Note taking would be essential if she was to get jobs assigned. "Hello, Mariel!" She said as she pulled her chair over and sat down.
Meetings. Sammy LOVED meetings. And he could say so without even the teeniest tiniest hint of sarcasm.
Meetings meant sitting on your bottom, drinking coffee, eating cookies (if you were lucky) and talking. These were among Samson's favourite pastimes EVER.
Heading back into the Gobstones office from the break room armed with a milky, sweet coffee for the occasion, he took his place among his peers. His charming pearly white smile was flashed at the other employees, “Hi folks.”, and then directed at Mariel. “Mariel.”
As she waited for her employees to congregate around her, Mariel flipped open her file and skimmed through her papers. She was certain that they were all busy finishing up paperwork and that a couple were out doing fieldwork, but it wasn't like anyone was late. At least not yet. And she didn't have to wait long anyway, a fact that she noted as she looked up when she heard a voice speaking her name.
Ah, there were a few of them now. Mariel greeted them as they came, her eyes falling on a few of them. "Hello, Autumn... Samson.. How are you both?" She wasn't so rude that she couldn't exchange some pleasantries before getting started with business. It was a casual meeting anyway and now that a few of them were here she was going to get started.
"I just wanted to check with everyone regarding Gobstones," she started. "Everything going well with the season so far? Have there been any issues?" If there were she hadn't heard about them which meant that they were doing their jobs and handling things well. And she had spoken with a couple of the Gobstones managers recently and everything seemed to be going smoothly so far.

He glanced at his co-worker, Autumn, and then looked back at the big boss lady. He shrugged his shoulders. “No problems here t'report.”
Having started his employment here at the Ministry with no knowledge whatsoever of the Spewball Gobstones, it had fast become a favourite for young Samson. He liked his work. He hadn't met many people in life who could say the same thing about their jobs. And he loved being in Public Relations. It suited the former slytherin down to the ground.
It was always nice to know her employees were doing well and seemed happy. Mariel prided herself on being a good boss. "Good.. good to know," she smiled lightly. She hadn't thought there had been any problems, but since she was here, she might as well make sure.
"I did have a few things to discuss with you about the season, but before we get into that, I wanted to mention again the Quidditch tournament that is coming up." The one that the department was hosting of course, and even though the Gobstones division didn't have as big a hand with the event as the Quidditch division, not only did she need some assistance from them as well but she didn't want them to think that they were pushed off to the side while they handled other things.
"Samson, I'd like you to assist with some PR during the event. Take your camera, take some candids, and enjoy the day there." Of course they were all able to attend the tournament for free. And she figured that he'd prefer that promotional type of work. "Autumn, I could also use your assistance as well," she said, turning her green eyes to the young woman. But she knew she was up for the work too, even if it was a different assignment.

Once she had sent out her morning owls for the day, Mariel stopped for a quick break at the coffee stand before heading over to the Gobstones offices. She had a few things to talk to them about besides just generally see how things were going. With the Gobstones season currently in full swing, things were bound to busy. And since she didn't have a division manager, she always made sure to keep closer tabs on these employees while still giving them plenty of breathing room to do their jobs. She wasn't into micro-managing.
Taking a sip of her coffee, she stepped into the offices and took a quick look around. She hadn't sent too many of them out to do any field work, so she knew a few of them should still be in the office. And she really only needed a few of them right now as her visit was informal for the moment.

Autumn ran a hand through her hair as she finished her letter. It was addressed to a fan of a team, who was asking about next year's game schedule. It was only July, there was no need to get all excited already, jeez... She looked up as she heard somebody entering the office. Maybe someone was sweet enough to bring her some tea?
Nope, it was Mariel. Her cup of tea could wait. The former Gryffindor stood up from her seat and waved at her Department Head. "Good morning, Mariel! How are you doing?" She said, wondering if she was just doing her regular check on the division or if she had something to discuss with them.
Sammy had popped out of the office for a coffee break, deciding to head out into London to the nearest Starbucks, prefering the milky lattes you got there to the ministry's own stuff which he found too bitter for his unsophisticated palate. Apparition was useful. Samson had mastered it at last, and he found he could save so much time by just poofing around the place. He was saving money on travel too, which was brilliant.. because rent in London was scandalous and sharing a one bedroomed flat with his cousin where his bed was the sofa, was taking it's toll on the young man's back. The more he saved, the sooner they could upgrade to something bigger.
He sauntered back into the office clutching a large cardboard cup.
“Hi Mariel.” He greeted friendlily on his way past her. “Autumn.” A nod at his colleague. The blond lad took his seat at his desk. “What brings you to the Gobstones offices?” He asked the big bosslady, swivelling on his chair to face her, a big grin on his face.
Mariel had barely stepped into the office when a movement out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. That movement turning out to be one of her employees rising from her seat to greet her. "Oh, hello, Autumn," she returned the greeting with a small smile. "I'm doing well. I hope you can say the same?"
And there was Samson. Mariel turned as she heard his voice, giving him a smile back, though that smile slowly faded as her eyes fell on the coffee cup in his hand. Did he get that from outside the Ministry? Did he know how much she paid to have the best coffee brought in just for their level? Hmph. "Samson... do you not find our coffee up to par?"
Oh. Yes. She did have a specific reason for stopping by the offices today. "Well, first I wanted to check and see how things were going here, of course." It was her job to oversee this division of the department and she was always interested in how they were coming along. "But also, I've come to discuss a few ways of bringing up attendance at games. Some of the managers have talked about incorporating mascots to rally team spirit and I wanted your thoughts."
