Love Chamber
The Love Chamber, also known as the Ever-Locked Room, is the only room within the department that remains behind a heavily locked door. This door cannot be opened by Alohomora or any magical unlocking pen knives. Behind this door is the most mysterious subject of study in the department: the emotion love. In the middle of this large room is a fountain of Amorentia, which may make Unspeakables that wander too close a little distracted. To the left of this fountain are many cauldrons, which are used to try to understand love potions. To the right is where the research and study of charms and spells related to love takes place. There are powerful forces at work within this room, and any Unspeakables that work in here are trained to be able to withstand these forces.
Work within the Love Chamber is split into three divisions: the love specialists who are general specialists concerned with studying love, potioneers who study the aspects of love related to potions, and charmists who study the aspects of love related to spells.
Sam wondered where this 'Trainee' part came in in her job description. She was always on her own, which she didn't mind. To be honest, she had originally felt a bit odd getting assigned as a Trainee only, but she took it in stride and decided the best thing for her to do was to prove herself through her work. Over time though, she had grown to like being in the Ever-Locked Room.
She had time to herself... all the time. Sometimes she forgot that anyone else even worked in this Department.

Ah, the Love Chamber. One of the chambers always fully locked and kept completely unharmed by no one other then those that worked inside. Or herself. It had been the chamber where she first began her work as an Unspeakable. There was so much to learn in this room from potions to spells all dealing with Love.
Stepping inside the chamber after dealing with the heavily locked up door Addison smiled softly to herself. Had it not been for her years of training and working inside here herself the many forces given off from the cauldrons with love potions and the large fountain of Amorentia that stood in the center the women might not have made it even this far. Thankfully she was able to withstand the pull of the scents around her and was able to walk around pretty much unbothered.
Blue eyes roamed around the sections checking to see what was being brewed in each cauldron. Was everything being kept clean when not in use? Did anything need to be restocked or put away? Chances were slim to none normally as her employees were very good about this sort of thing but it never hurt to check on her own. Plus it was nice to sometimes have things ordered and restocked before it was even asked for.

Cauldron washing was tedious and boring, but necessary and Adam had learned over the past year that sometimes his coworkers didn’t do a very thorough job at it. So, he’d taken it upon himself to do most of the equipment washing. This way, he knew there would be no chance of any cross-contaminates messing up his experiments and research. He hung the last of a gaggle of cauldrons up to dry and grabbed a towel to wipe his hands. Two minutes later he was heading back to his desk.
He resisted the urge to whistle, despite being rather jolly. It was hard to be irritable in a chamber that was dedicated to the study of love, and Adam knew that if he ever did seem a bit melancholy, he could just wander a bit closer to the fountain of Amorentia and that would perk him right up. As it was, just walking past it at a considerable distance, his sensitive sniffer picked up the faintest trace of mint, dirt, and broom polish. His eyes closed momentarily and he sighed. When he opened them, he was walking past a coworker’s station. “Hallo,” he said with a smile. “It is Sam, ya?” he asked in heavily accented English.
The door opened and Adam looked in the direction to see their Department Head walk in. Adam waved to her, wondering if she’d brought treats. It seemed that every interaction he’d ever had with the woman had included food and almost like a trained puppy, he had come to expect it hoped the trend would continue. Adam, after all, did love food even if his physique didn’t show it. He always had a bit of a sickly white pallor and looked like he hadn’t eaten in weeks. He tucked his hands into the pockets of his lab robes and rocked on his feet for a moment wondering briefly why Addison was in the room. Department Heads rarely visited the work areas and it made him speculate her reasons for visiting.

Addison had her usual warm smile in place as she had entered the chamber. It wasn't before long that her baby blues fell upon two her the chambers workers, Sam and Adam. Both were doing their own thing but seemed to be keeping up with what was expected. As long as what needed to be done was getting done she had no trouble at all in giving her team a break.
"Hello Adam, Sam. How are you both?" She smiled at the wave she received in greeting. She hadn't brought along any food into the chamber for fear of contaminants but she did know for a fact that there was some fresh food in the break room. "If either of you are hungry there's some fresh muffins in the break room," she informed them. Food was important. Having worked in the Love Chamber for many years herself she knew how easy it was to lose track of time.
"Don't worry nothing is wrong or anything like that, I'm simply here to check up on things. Make sure everything is clean, and working as should." If there were any problems or concerns for anything now would be the time to say so.

Did she read minds or something ? Adam thought completely unaware of his body language. Food? Addison always brought food with her. His mouth watered as if someone had run a bell and he was one of Pavlov’s dogs. Did she know how much her staff appreciated the goodies that always seemed to pop up around here? He gave her a toothy smile then walked over to his work station and sat down on his stool letting his boss get on with her business.
The chamber had been rather quite lately, what with Edward busy with his Hogwarts experiment and with Hazel gone. Even when he tried, Adam had a hard time keeping friends. If most didn’t push him away, they seemed to run away themselves. Adam thought a moment about Jori as he pushed a few items around on his work space. Without realizeing it, the Amortentia began to smell like hassenfeffer stew, baked bread, and a faint musk that Adam had always associated with his friend…
He shook his head and the smells cleared. He reached for a parchment he’d been working on. It contained messy writing complete with scribbles, blots, and a few words in German because Adam couldn’t figure out what the plant was called in English. Adam was not a man with neat handwriting. Even if he took the time to re-write this list, it probably wouldn’t be much better. “Tactually,” he said in response to her question about needing anything. He’d already brought it up at the department meeting, but hadn’t had the chance to get specific in his request. “I haben unt list of ingred-unts.”
He handed her the parchment which contained the following things legibly (and in English):
Cauldron washing was tedious and boring, but necessary and Adam had learned over the past year that sometimes his coworkers didn’t do a very thorough job at it. So, he’d taken it upon himself to do most of the equipment washing. This way, he knew there would be no chance of any cross-contaminates messing up his experiments and research. Sam had started daydreaming while she worked to clean a cauldron and didn't even notice that someone else had entered. Surprising, since it was so quiet and empty most of the time. She finished and stretched her arms. As she did, she heard a voice and she looked up fairly surprised. "Oh, hello! Hi, yea, I'm Sam. Nice to meet you!" Sam put her arm out to the man for a handshake. "May I ask yours?" She had not met him before, she was pretty confident... She would feel terrible if she found out she had! She noticed his accent, and wondered if she wanted to learn more about this man.

Growing up her mother had always told her and her brother that 'Food Fueled the Mind'. It had been something that always stuck with her and she always found herself telling her son and nieces and nephews the same now. The proper food at the proper times would give you the energy to get through any situation. Working in the department of mysteries were not only a tough job that required a great deal of focus but it could also mean rather long hours. This was why food was always made available to her team when they wanted it.
Addison smiled watching Adam reach for a bit of parchment. Accepting it from her she looked it over amused by the ink blots and scribbles. It very much threw her back to her days when she worked in the Love Chamber years ago. All the notes she had taken down and scribbled through. A small laugh left her lips and she met the mans gaze for a brief moment. "Oh, this is perfect. I will take this with me and see how much of it I can get." Most of it didn't appear to be a big problem. What she could read of it anyhow. The bits in German she might have to look into a little more.

While Addison was reading over Adam’s potion ingredient wish list, Sam perked up. ”Ah-dahm,” he replied reaching over from his work station to shake her hand firmly as he flashed a toothy smile. “Vu must be new,” he added uncertain of what else to say. He noticed that she was cleaning up a cauldron. “Vhat ist vour spet-…spet…” pause; internal sigh. “Focus?” Adam was not good at small talk so he hoped she understood his question. In fact, small talk usually made him nervous because he was afraid he was going to say something stupid, especially since his English wasn’t very good as evidenced by the fact that he couldn’t remember the word “specialty.” Even in his familiar German, however Adam wasn’t that smooth of a talker. Perhaps that was one of the reasons he had gotten into potion making. It didn’t require much chit-chat. It wasn’t that Adam didn’t like talking, he just wasn’t very good at verbal communication.
Opening a draw, Adam pulled out a small container and stood up. He pulled a round tank full of orange fish forward. If one looked closely enough, they’d see that the fish gave off a faint greenish-orange glow. He opened the contained and pinched some food to drop into the tank. The fish happily began eating and a low humming noise started to emanate from the tank, but at that point, Addison spoke.
Perfect? He thought. Funny, he had been expecting to have to explain his reasoning regarding a few of his items, especially the chocolate request(s). As it turned out, Adam was happy he didn’t have to plead his case. “Wunderbar!” he exclaimed happily. The sooner he got the chocolate and Lovage plant he could get on with his next concoction experiment.

Now Addison was not at all by any means fluent in German. She did know a couple of words and maybe some small sentences but not enough to hold a conversation. Should she have trouble with understanding anything that was written on this list Adam had given her then she would have to come back and ask him. It was that or attempt to figure it out herself and chances were she wouldn't be able to do that.
Going over the list once or twice more this time more slowly Addison let her eyes linger on a few of the items. Chocolate wasn't that odd a request but paired up with some of the other items it could be considered strange. Adam's excitement made her smile. A man whom enjoyed his work was one she had no trouble with helping out. "I'll get right on this list and see what all needs to be done. With any luck I can have most of this soon." How soon she wasn't entirely sure as it would depend on each ingredient but she would do her best. "Is there something you're wanting to really work on?" Curious really. The more she knew about what was going on in here the better it might be.

Sam couldn't help the small smile as the man worked out his sentence. She let him finish before responding. "Yes and no I suppose. I'm relatively new. I started here," she gestured to the room at large, "as a Charmist but I have been moved over to the Thought Chamber as a Subconscious Specialist!" She was quite enthusiastic about this. Not to say she hadn't enjoyed learning about love, but it hadn't been as captivating to her as learning about the Brain.
"What is your goal here?" she asked. She could connect the dots that he was a Potioneer, but she wondered what he hoped to accomplish in the Ever-Locked Room.

”Vell,” Adam began as he pushed the small bowl of glowing fish back to where he knew they wouldn’t get knocked over on his desk. “I had un idea of vorking vith unt the basics of dut anit-love potion.” He swiveled a little on his chair. Sometimes the best way to learn things about something is to learn how to undo something. He had gotten the idea while taking apart a clock in an attempt to fix the weights that were off and causing it to be slow keeping time.
What did Sam say? He swiveled on his chair towards her. The Thought Chamber? The place with the tank of floating overly aggressive brains? Ewww… Adam coughed and tried to keep his grossed outness out of voice. “Dat sounds interesting…” He wondered what they did in that room, besides dodge the brains when they get to constricting and attacking peoples. He just hoped she wouldn’t ask him for help in that room. It kinda creeped him out. “Vhat are you hoping to learn int dare?”
Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium
Addison's gaze wandered towards the bowl of glowing fish and she watched them silently for several moments. Rather pretty little things those were. Adam's voice once again caught her attention and she turned her head to look at him. An anti-love potion? Well now this was interesting. A good theory he had too in wanting to learn how to undo the potion itself. "I must say that this is an interesting idea. Certainly one worth looking into." He had her agreement on this. No need to tell him to be careful either as she sure he knew that much otherwise he wouldn't be working where he was.
The women's thoughts shifted a bit at hearing Sam mention the Thought Chamber. It wasn't a place she went into often or fully understood herself but she had been in there. It was a strange chamber really but that was nothing new to her.

Adam had no idea how things were going at Hogwarts, nor, if he was honest, did he really care. It wasn’t like he had a personal investment in the school. Nor had he enjoyed his brief stint at the school. In fact, if anyone had bothered to ask him, he’d have stated that he found the staff rude, the school unnecessarily labyrinthine, and the students impertinent to the point that he almost wanted to move back home to Germany.
Almost move back to Germany…
Thankfully he didn’t really have to deal with Hogwartsy people (or did he?) on a daily basis. His daily work consisted of potions, herbology, cooking, food, potions, and the occasional explosion that turned his hair pink and made him smell like a Hawaiian luau.
In fact, he was busy working on a (fairly) simple speed elixir at the moment. He had planned to use it to test the intensification of the love potion that bubbled in the fair corner. However, since it was a fairly simple potion to rebrew (and didn’t rely on the phases of the moon for adding new ingredients like the other potion that was simmering away on this desk), Adam found himself wondering what the effects of the creature’s slime and the snowflake/spore/dander-thing-a-ma-bob stuff that Addison had been able to collect off the students who had entered the “mysterious portal” that had appeared would be. According to the student’s recounting of their experience in said portal, their wand magic hadn’t been very potent. He wondered if the spores or the slime had been the reason. And if it had, Adam wondered what it’s affect would be on potion-magic?
He causally dropped one of the snowflake/spore/dander-thing-a-ma-bob things Addison had allotted him into the potion.
There was a fizz, followed by a foof, (nothing really out of the ordinary), and then…..
Nothing.
Adam leaned over the potion, fully aware that there might be a delay in the ingredient after-affects or that the fumes could cause him to sprout carrots out of his nose, but not really expecting anything to happen (after all, that would support his hypothesis). The potion, which was usually a rich glowing, slightly bubbly blue color was slowly turning into a very dull, blah color that if, Adam was familiar with muggle cold medicines would have looked strikingly like Nightquil.
“Auch das ist interessant," (Well, that’s interesting) He said aloud in German to nobody in particular.
And he quickly set about to brewing approximately six more batches of his “test” potion. After all, one needed to re-create one’s findings in order to prove their value.
Cypress rolled into work late. He had called it in, though. He hadn't been feeling well lately, with the weather getting hotter and ...all the damn pollen everywhere. Sniffling. Lots and lots of sniffling.
He made his way to the LOVE CHAMBER where he got to work..which, some days he thought this was hilarious. Other days, not so much. He was sick and tired of being sick and tired, and he also didn't feel like being at work today. So when he got his stuff together and heard Adam speaking German, he just sighed.
"What is interesting?" he asked curiously. He didn't know German, but it wasn't hard to figure out.

It was surprising to Addison that she was somewhat caught up on all her paperwork involving their department. Normally this didn't happen as when she would finish something she'd come to realize that something else needed to be done. It was never-ending as a department head but oddly enough it was all the work that pushed her to do the best she could. As of lately she had found herself doing her best to stay ahead of the game in the hopes that when she was away on maternity leave who was left in charge in her place wouldn't have a hard time.
Needing a break from staring at numbers any longer, Addi rose from her chair, slowly of course and had a good stretch. She needed to move around some. Resting a hand on her rather large pregnant stomach the blonde left her office to take a walk. This lead her to check in one some of the rooms and see how things were doing. Maybe take a quick inventory and order things before she wasn't here to do so.
Coming to the Ever-Locked room she went ahead to let herself in giving a nod of her head to both men inside. "Hello Adam, Cypress. What are you working on today?" she asked taking quick note of cauldron's Adam had around that he appeared to be working on.

Adam looked up from measuring out spine of lionfish at Cypress’ voice. “Ah,” he said with a big smile on his face. Good! Someone who could help him brew a few of the test potions. The sooner he could test this hypothesis, the quicker he could get the results to Addison. Not that he was sure it would be of any help. But Adam was currently caught up in the excitement of his discovery. “Dat,” he said answering Cyrpress’s question as he motioned to the blah, nightquil looking potion sitting and doing nothing on lap table, two pots down from the one he was working on.
And just then, Addison walked in. Oh good! She was saving Adam the time of not having to track her down later. Not that she was particularly difficult to get a hold of. Usually the department was in her officer doing paperwork. It wasn’t often that Adam had a string of good luck. (In fact, he had finally gotten the last of the pink out of his hair from his last potion mishap.) But he was feeling incredibly lucky today. Lucky and exited.
“Hallo,” Adam said jovially to Addison with a big toothy smile. He finished measuring out the spine of lionfish and dumped it into the cauldron he was standing in front of. There was small poof of pink smoke which quickly dissipated as Adam moved to his left to stand in front of a different cauldron that merrily bubbling in a neon blue color. He glanced down into the cauldron. Excellent this one was ready.
”You art both just in time for dist,” he said picking up one of the snowflake/spore/dander-thing-a-ma-bob things. He paused to look at both of his co-workers. Mm…perhaps a bit of an explanation was in order. Cypress should have known that Adam was standing in front of a simple speed elixir, but Addison might not. Adam wasn’t entirely sure how familiar the pregnant lady was with potions. ”Dis,” he began. ”Ist a speed potion. Unt dis,“ he said holding up the snowflake/spore/dander-thing-a-ma-bob. ”Ist from dat portal…”
He dropped it into the potion and again there was a fizz, followed by a foof, (nothing really out of the ordinary), and then…..
Nothing.
Adam rocked back onto his feet smiling happily to himself. If he had been alone, he probably would have begun humming to himself the way he did when things were going particularly well. The fact that the potion had not reacted was a good sign. Indeed, it was doing exactly what his last speed elixir had done and was turning that blah blue-green color and losing its bubbles.
Now he just needed to try the snowflake/spore/dander-thing-a-ma-bob affect on different potions…which was what he had been measuring the spine of lionfish for.
"Um...nothing. Because I literally just got here," Cypress dropped his bag by his table and eyed his department head a bit. She was getting rather round, wasn't she? "When are you due again, Miss DH Lady?" he asked as he eyed the stew...or whatever, that Adam was making.
Of course it was a speed elixir. Cypress could tell by the color, consistency, and odor. But he had zero clue what the man was doing with it...and what was that other stuff?
"...Yeah," was all he said after that anti-climatic display from Adam. He didn't mind Adam. Guy was kinda' funny. Not to mention German. "I would be careful with that portal stuff." Man should be at least wearing gloves, right? "And you...shouldn't go near it," he nodded at Addison's stomach. "Seriously." Potions causes accidents sometimes, and no, Cypress did not want THAT on his conscience.

Just getting in. Addison eyed Cypress for a moment before remembering that he had told her that he would be late coming in today. Sometimes things slipped her mind lately, not normally but sometimes. Yes, she saw that look Cypress so no reminders on how...big...she was getting please. "June but I have he'll arrive early," she replied smiling warmly. Talking about her children always warmed her heart.
"What is it I'm in time for?," she asked stepping just a bit closer to take a peak into one of the cauldrons. Ah, a speed potion. That one she recognized right away, the others not so easily as she couldn't quite see what was inside them without getting any closer a risk she wasn't bound to take. The portal? From Hogwarts?
Addison turned her blue eyes onto Adam and sure enough the man was dropping one of those spore/dander bits into the speed potions. On instant she took a step back just as Cypress voiced his concern of her not getting to close. "I know that." She wasn't about to do anything to harm her unborn son. She knew very well the dangers of working in this area of the department, in fact she had worked in this section years ago before moving to the death chamber and then becoming the department head. The two men probably didn't know that and it wasn't important right now.
What was important was the potions reaction to the spore/dander things. Nothing. After the fizz and poof it made there was nothing. Judging by the look on Adam's face that's exactly what was supposed to happen. This could be a very useful bit of information. "Have you tried this with any other potions?" Was that what he was doing with all the other cauldrons?

Adam shrugged off Cypress’s cautions about the “portal stuff.” The man seemed a bit too uptight for Adam’s tastes. Life was short. Be adventurous. Try new things. Don’t worry about the consequences. That was how Adam looked at the world. After all, if one didn’t take chances, then new things would never be discovered!
Addison’s reaction was a bit more like what Adam had expected from Cypress. “Nein,” he said giddily in response to the department head’s question about other potions. He was barely containing his excitement over these results. He wasn’t really sure what good would come of this, but it sure beat working with love potions for a day or two. “I vas double checking ze resultz in ze speed potion. Ze…dingy from da portal canceled ze potion’s attributes in both speed potions.” He motioned to the other cauldrons sitting around. “I vas in ze process of brewing more potions to test ze dingy’s affects vhen Zupress-a valked in.”
Adam glanced over at a cauldron which was blurping happily. It was ready for the spine of lionfish. He picked up the ingredient and dumped it into the cauldron to his right. There was a burble as the contents reacted. Adam picked up a spoon and stirred the mixture a little. ”Dis one should be ready soon to try ze dingy on,” he informed them.
Maybe he should try the slime on some of the potions, he thought. No no, he chided himself. One step at a time. First the spore-thingies and then he could move onto the slime.

Her German wasn't the best but she knew what Adam had said. With the amount of potions being brewed in the cauldrons lying around her question was most likely answered already anyhow. Having it confirmed wasn't a bad thing however. "I see. So now that it has produced the same results you will be trying it out on the other potions." Addison nodded her head once in understanding as her blue eyes shifted once more around the area.
Addison watched as the spine of lionfish was added into one of the bubbling cauldrons. "Would you mind my sticking around to see what happens if these are almost ready to be tested?" She waved a hand at the other cauldrons. Seeing the results first hand was always better then hearing about it later. She knew though that some people didn't like others standing over them while they worked however.
