Employees new and old should stop by this table just inside the entrance to the party. For all employees, generous swag bags have been laid out, containing a magically self-sizing tee-shirt, emblazoned with "Property of the Ministry of Magic" and the seal of the Ministry; a coupon for a free beverage in the cafeteria; a 10%-off coupon in the gift shop; a quill and set of standard muggle pencils; and a mug, with each department receiving a different color. One bag per employee!
New employees, continue along the table to pick up your temporary ID, check-in with whichever Department Head happens to be rotating through the area, and grab materials for your first day. You planned on an evening of reading after the party, right?
.... Is it safe? *blinks* feel free to approach for anyone?

Truth be told, Aaron wasn't feeling the Ministry orientation. Yes he had applied and yes he knew his body wouldn't hold up forever in terms of Professional Quidditch, but an evening out with new and old coworkers, well it wasn't really his thing. Not unless Arya or Treyen were there, because going out wasn't the same. But he was THIRTY-TWO years old, which meant it was time to wake up and meet new people; Arya and Treyen, while once tight, they had they're own thing going on.
Approaching the table, he frowned at the t-shirt. He wasn't anyone's property and if the Ministry thought he was, well, he might as well leave now. The free beverage in the cafeteria sounded good, but no soft drinks. Also, why was a MAGIC employment place giving muggle pencils? This was weird.
Shrugging, he shoved all the goodies back into his bag, thinking he'd probably end up tossing most of later, as he continued down the table to get his temporary ID and find his new department head, wondering if his niece had arrived yet. He was pretty sure she did still work in the Ministry someplace, but wasn't exactly sure what she did. Something with transportation, that wasn't brooms, so there wasn't much else he really cared about in terms of position or what she did. Also he was kind of wondering if the rumors he'd heard were true. Merlin, he'd really been away from his family too long and self-focused. Though he had seen his sister from time to time; even though she wasn't his team's healer, she took care of him. Sibling requirements.

Now that Becca was one of the people in charge of the Ministry, did that mean that she could go along and take every t-shirt that said 'Property of the Ministry of Magic' out of the goody bags? As she was musing on this, she saw someone take a bag and her eyes went wide. He'd ruined her plan! Becca approached the man and politely introduced herself.
"Hello there, my name is Becca Yenorin and I'm just wondering if I could take a look in your goody bag and get your opinion on something?" Yeah, she'd ask him if he thought the t-shirt was appropriate, and if not, she'd collect them all up and take them up to the Minister herself and put them aaaaall on her desk and make her disapproval known. Mhmm!
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Regina made her way towards the table that was full of the Orientation Goody-Bags. She collected hers and had a look at the contents. When she saw the t-shirt, her eyes darkened. Property? She was nobody's property. She was employed by the Ministry but they didn't own her.
She then continued along and grabbed her temporary ID. Regina then began to look for a Department Head.

If his first day back at Hogwarts had been a surreal experience...this this was out of body like.
Approaching the table with Pebbles in hand, one Airey Flamsteed was baffled that this was where life had taken him...and he really only had Sophie Brown to blame for that. HUNTING him down and showing up at his door with a bouquet of astronomically festive lollipops like that and reading him the affectionate riot act about subjects he never imagined a former student would address him about...while holding his daughter. Work at the UK Space Agency had been great, far better than he had expected and on par with his previous experience working with NASA...but also just as heart-wrenching.
Perhaps more given there was no injury to blame for things this go around.
"No need to be nervous," he assured his pet rock...and himself. "You survived 11 years of teenage hormones and tears." Blue eyes glancing around the table, he looked for a goody bag with his name on it - because that was how this worked, yes? "Which color is Mysteries? Or is that a ........ mystery?"
Har har.

His second Orientation here and the man wasn't any more enthused than he was last year. Don't get him wrong, he loved his job and the way he'd finally gotten his office smelling just right but this could have been one of those events best attended from his bed.
Maddox meandered his way through the new employees waiting to get their goodie bags but stopped quite suddenly when a particular scent caught his nose. It smelled like.....well...frankly it smelled like "Airey?"
AAAaaaIIiiRRRrrrEEEeeeYYYYyyYYy!!!!!!
Quick as that, forgetting all the energy saving he'd been doing, the man shrunk into the form of a cat and bounded toward his friend. With a clear spring in his step, the small black figure with large yellow eyes pounced on the man, nuzzling him and purring BECAUSE HE MISSED HIM. Did he know?? Did he miss him too???? How was NASA?? He should ask, but later when he could speak. Had to do this while he could before the man freaked and threw him....far.

It was unusual for Eliora to worry about who her children were being taken care by, but for tonight she had let her ex take both of them overnight. And she was flustered by it. Nathan wasn't a bad dad, but she had primary custody of both Briar-Rose and Levi and to leave them alone with him was still hard for her. Even though they had split up four years ago, things were still difficult and co-parenting was hard now that she couldn't keep an eye on his romantic life as easy as she once had been able to. The thought of another woman meeting her children made her sick to the stomach... However, she pushed all of those thoughts right to the back of her head as work commitments came before worrying about the father of her children.
As she entered the orientation event, she took a goody bag labelled with her department and decided that she would look through it when she had a seat somewhere else. Probably with food. And coffee if they had it. Maybe they'd have actual coffee and not the decaf she'd been having to drink at home because of the twitches it was giving her. It was heartbreaking to have medical problems from the love of your life.
"Eight years and this stuff never gets better."
Eight years? Eliora took a double take and counted out the years she had worked for the Ministry of Magic on her fingers. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight......... Eight years in the exact same job role. She was going to be a plain spell researcher for the rest of her career, wasn't she? Promotion, pls.

It was because he lost in his own thoughts that it took Aaron a moment to realize someone had been talking to him. Merlin, what? He really was getting old, wasn't he? Looking around just to be sure, he frowned at sight of a cat nuzzling a wizard a few paces away, but well yea she was definitely talking to him.
She'd introduced her name but truth be told, he was fairly famous - least in the sports world - so he held off saying who was, for now at least. "My opinion? Yea sure?" she wasn't trying to be a thief of all the free cafeteria beverage coupons, was she? Because that wouldn't be cool. Aaron uncertainly held his bag out for her to have a peek, unconsciously wishing he'd taken his coupon and pocketed it already.

Albert arrived at the Ministry Orientation shindig in his resplendent blue Grieves and Hawkes three-piece suit, with his nose in the air as he quietly observed his new environment. Tightening his grip on his trusty umbrella, he moved forward to one of the tables to inspect it.
Oh, he was supposed to pick his ID out? Shame, he knew better not to do it by himself, considering that he would need the permission of the event organisers first, therefore, he kept his hands to himself, as his eyes wandered to the many identifications across the table. 'Look at those poor souls. What were their parents thinking when they named these children?' he thought to himself.
Also, what was inside the so called 'swag bag'?

With his hands in his pockets Minhyuk stopped just before the table with the swag bags and looked around him. Nice, there were already a lot people around! A smile started to form on his lips and he walked over toward the ID cards to find his own. “Ah! There it it” he muttered and hung the ID card on a cord around his neck.
Walking to a random wizard he stopped and greeted the other man and stuck out his hand for the other to shake it. “I’m Park Minhuk and I’m new here. Soo… Is there anything fun to do here?” He asked with a wide smile.

Regina saw a very haughty man with an umbrella, looking at the table of identifications. She could read his thoughts about the name of the employees. She was going to have some fun and so she placed her now empty plate down on the table and made her way to him.
"Not a fan of everyone's names, huh, Albert?" Regina whispered to him as she took a sip of her drink.

Another smirk appeared on Becca's face at the look she saw on this other person's face, though it disappeared as fast as it had appeared. Approaching her, Becca gave her a welcoming smile. "Hello there! I hope you don't mind me approaching you, but I saw your reaction to the t-shirt there and I was hoping that you could give me your opinion out loud and give me the t-shirt? I plan to make the Minister aware of people's reactions to these." She'd write the opinion on the t-shirt.

Upon hearing the slightly amusing comment on Mysteries, Becca had turned to see who had uttered it and was confronted with Maddox turning into his animagus and jumping on the man. Becca took a deep breath, did her best not to roll her eyes and turned to look away. That wasn't right and most people freaked out at cats jumping on them.

Becca offered the man a small smile when he seemed surprised that she was talking to him, but then he quite happily offered his goody bag to her. Reaching in, Becca took out the t-shirt and held it up. "What is your honest opinion of this t-shirt?" That was all she would take from his bag because she was a good girl. Plus, she wasn't going to steal anything right in front of him. Becca was far more subtle than that if she needed something.

"If I may?" Becca approached the gentleman who was holding his umbrella like he'd die if he lost it. "My name is Becca Yenorin and I'd like to welcome you to the Ministry. I can assure you that your umbrella is quite safe here, you need not hold onto it quite so tightly all night. Surely your hand will get tired?" Just a gentle nudge of 'trust people or at least trust me' might help him to relax.

"Well, I do try." Becca laughed softly. "They were offered at my orientation and I just left mine on the table. Now I have the ability to make a difference, I am going to." Yep. "Oh, so you're hoping to become an Auror eventually? Or would you want to stay in the Squad?" Becca asked, obviously interested. "Legilimens... nice! Regina thought for a moment about her career. "I would like to be an Auror in say, five to ten years time. I am not really thinking that far ahead, considering I've just joined the Ministry."
Was being a Legilimens nice? It wasn't always a good skill to have. "It has its good points and bad points. Hearing someone think very negatively of you can hurt which is why I find it hard to make friends. It's hard to trust people."
So Becca had the ability to lie to those with the skills of a Legilimens. Regina smiled to herself.

Eyes widening as though a flock of dementors were descending upon him, the astronomer let out a silent scream as the furry monster lunged at him with its claws out and intent to kill gleaming in its horrifying yellow eyes. Then came the DEATH RATTLE as the beast attempted to decapitate him.
Initial shock wearing off after approximately 0.05 seconds, the gangly blonde began flailing about - waving his arms line a windmill - and spinning rapidly to try and shake the beast from his suit. HIS SUIT! THE FUR! THE HOLES THAT WOULD BE TORN IN IT! AND HE WITHOUT THE CAPACITY TO REMOVE HIS LINT ROLLER FROM HIS ENCHANTED BREAST POCKET BECAUSE THE MONSTER WAS COVERING IT WITH ITS BODY!
"QaH! QaH! QaH!"
Unfortunately for everyone around, the haphazard arm flailing was doing no one any favors and it was not long before one of his limbs connected with the table and he slammed riiiiiiiiiight into a nearby woman (Eliora!) and down they both went. Well...the probability of them both going down was quite high unless she had impressive balance.
Also...his pet rock? Yeah...she had launched herself somewhere in the fray.

This was impressive to say the least. The last time Airey had gotten this close to him while in his furrier form had left the man's ears ringing something fierce. Aside from the obvious gasp of horror and the silent way his lungs shrieked for help, this was rather decent.
Sure, they were now on a collision course with the floor and might apparently have been taking Eliora down with them BUT LOOK HOW HAPPY AIREY WAS TO SEE HIM TOO!!!!!
It was all there in those terrified eyes. Maddox didn't notice any looks he might have been getting and the thought of Pebbles flying off into the great beyond was hardly enough to dislodge the cat who's claws kept him firmly fixed on his friends suit.
He rambled on about missing the man in a series of 'meows'--because obviously Airey spoke cat, yep, made perfect sense. Just to be sure he was getting through to him, he even gave him a little lick on his cheek.
Aaaiiirreeyyyyy!!!

Don't talk to me." And...as for the contents..... "I was talking about the atmosphere. Not the amazing freebies." Grinning at the presence of the t-shirt, Eliora shrugged. "I, for one, think they're wonderful." And to make her point, she placed the goody bag on the floor and started to put the shirt on.
SPOILER!!: AIREY AND BOSSMAN

SWEET SOLSTICE

Her arms were in the air and the fabric was over her face when the whole thing happened... One minute she was steady on her feet and the next.............she was on the floor and her arms were bent awkwardly inside of the tshirt. "ohmygod" Why. WHY. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Plus, she wasn't going to steal anything right in front of him. Becca was far more subtle than that if she needed something.
Rose was actually nervous for this Ministry Orientation gala. A night out with her new co-workers could go exceptionally well in the first impression department or it could just turn into one giant disaster, that she just wanted to quickly erase from memory. If only Rose could have persuaded Leo to come along for support, but she was 32 years old so she couldn't ask him. It'd be like reverting back to teen years and she was an independent woman now and proud of it.
Pulling some dark strands of hair behind her ears, Rose entered the Check-In Area and clickety-clacked her way over on white heels to compliment her pink dress, to the goody bag table. Apparently they got presents on their unofficial first day of work and a nametag. If the nametag she had to pin to her clothes everyday was hideous could she just refuse to wear it or would that mean breaking some unspoken work rule?
Overhearing a man and a woman talking nearby about the content of the goody bags Rose moved closer to them after picking up her temporary ID which she stared at for a good long minute the, before she muttered out loudly in exasperation as she waved it around in the air. "Is this for real? Is it so hard to type Rose Kitridge correctly? I'm not called Roseann, RosieRose or Kiltridgers!! I refuse to wear this ID, can someone give me a new one?"
Giving the man a closer look, Rose momentarily forgot her exasperation as she blurted out in wonder "You're Rose, Aaron Rose, that plays quidditch, aren't you?"

So Becca had the ability to lie to those with the skills of a Legilimens. Regina smiled to herself.
"Well, it will all come in time, though if you aspire to be an auror, you should start as soon as possible. You never stop learning." Becca assured her. She'd been learning things all the time and still was. "Ah, well I'm sure that it can be horrible, but you also have to remember that it's not what people think that is the issue, it's what they say that makes them who they are."

WHY HER?!
WHY NOW?!
WHY WHEN SHE LOOKED SO DAMN GOOD?!
Oh my gaaaaaaaaaaaahd.
FLAIL.
Oh, they weren't friends? The woman had decided that, huh? Becca shrugged, letting her indifference be known and chose to ignore her foolish adoration for the t-shirts. Her eyes had turned to the commotion that was being caused by Maddox and she sighed. "Maddox, for Merlin's sake! You're an adult! Act like one!" With her own animagus being a lioness, Becca could understand some of the noises he was making. Shaking her head and rolling her eyes, Becca finally looked back to the woman who had been rude. She crouched down next to her and spoke softly. "Well, I'd love to help, but apparently we're not friends." And that would teach her to be rude to people. Hopefully.

As she was waiting for Aaron's response, Becca glanced at a woman who became exasperated and raised an eyebrow. Wait... Kitridge. She was one of hers! "Ms. Kitridge, please accept our apologies. I will get you a new one immediately." What oaf had written these out? Surely it had to be someone who didn't care. Maybe the woman who was on the floor?
