Due to the growing field of dragon research, a small lab has been set up for the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau. Books, files, and notes from past dragon researchers have been assembled and displayed in a way that allows the team easy access to the information that will help with any projects they might be working on. There is also a small holding area, specialized to cater to any dragon eggs that might be recovered out in the field, until said eggs can be transported to more secure locations suitable for dragon needs. This area is restricted to those not a part of the bureau, unless cleared by Tancred Adara, the Dragon Commissioner. |

It was safe to say that Tancred had a new favourite place within the Ministry's walls. Though the new dragonology lab was small, he was quite pleased with the handiwork and was all for having all of their books and files in one specific place rather than scattered amongst each other at their desks. Then that holding area was the cherry on top! The dragon commissioner was on cloud nine.
Now that the Ministry was back in business after their break, the soon-to-be-40-year-old man decided that the first order of business was to review the most recent files and notes made by the Bureau. As he flipped through a couple pages, he also made a mental note to talk to Harmony about setting up a date for a physical fitness exam. Just to make sure everything and everyone was in tip-top shape for the year ahead of them. Mind you, he still needed to work off the bit of weight he gained over the holiday.
As he progressed through the work, he quietly hummed to himself. It was only a matter of time before his team wandered in to see their brand new space.

And so the news about a Dragon Lab was true? His idea from last year's meeting actually materialized? Well, Miss Skylark deserves a thank you card from him...and probably a bowl of kale chips to boot for her stupendous work! The junior dragonologist showed himself inside their new hang out place, and was a bit disappointed at the size of their supposed lab. It really isn't a lab, wasn't it? It was more of...a research center to say the least.
Mordred knew, of course, that they're just starting small. Besides, the facility wasn't there last year when he began his work in the Ministry. He really shouldn't complain. Yet.
Seeing that he wasn't alone in the 'lab', the former Slytherin paused in his tracks as he considered his companion. It was his boss alright, but they haven't talked much. There was also no way he'd suck up to him, by being chatty. Nope. Not his style. Instead, a steady greeting will do. "Tancred." he said, stuffing his hands inside his pockets as he eyed the books and other compiled works of former researchers. Finally, maybe he can get some direction with his recent study.
It didn't take long for him to notice the small holding area. It wasn't as extensive as the one in the Russian reserve where he used to volunteer, and he thought it was literally just meant to temporarily hold dragon eggs for at least three days max.

Every now and then, he couldn't help but glance up from his stack of papers to just let the place sink in. It was curious how there hadn't been a lab made specifically for them in the department before. But, then again, Tancred himself was rather old school and preferred going out to the local reserves where more tools and personnel were readily available. Plus you couldn't gaze upon any dragons inside a government building, now could you?
His eyes looked back down at the papers, this time glossing over his notes about his old stomping grounds. He made a mental note that he needed to make a trip to the reserve in Wales to check in on things and make sure everything there was running smoothly. He did recall the last time he was there that there was talk about potential cross-breeding, so he'd need to get a status update on that too with his Ministry team.
When he heard his name, Tancred's head perked up. Seeing who it was, a smile grew on his face and he set his papers down for the time being. It was the man who suggested that this space be created. Good kid, he was. "Good morning, Mordred," the older man said, taking note on how stuffy the small lab was getting already with just two people in it. Hmm. A little extension charm might be necessary. "Enjoy your holiday? And how's your study progressing?"

The place was indeed small, but so was their team. If he was to consider his fellow dragonologists' physical built however, the place would be too small. They were all grown men, except for Miss Addison. Tancred's smile was returned with Mordred's own, and nodded along as he asked about his holiday. "As usual, my holiday went by really fast. Can't even remember what I had for Christmas breakfast." And no, he wasn't exaggerating. He had more important things to do with his wife that day, so breakfast was easily forgotten.
"I'm quite stuck with my study though..." he said as he reached for a particular book in the shelf and flipped through its pages. "I've been taste testing a whole lot of muggle and wizarding coffee lately, trying to get the best coffee bean available," he said closing the book, and returning it to where he found it, "...and see if I can infuse it with the magical properties of dragon dung." No one else has thought of that kind of project, from what he can recall. Besides, if luck is on his side, he just might be the next big thing in the wizarding coffee industry. "Problem is, I haven't established the right procedure to do it." he paused, as he looked up at his boss, "Maybe I can start that process now, seeing that we've got a laboratory already." Well, they just need, more equipment like cauldrons, phials, and other potion ingredients.
Mordred moved along to the very small holding area, and checked out the very basic equipments they've got for the retrieved dragon eggs. Well, nothing much can be done in that area except for displaying the eggs for a few days. "How about you, Tancred? How was your holiday?" he asked as he picked up a nice over-sized egg tray. "We need at least a small heating and cooling chambers for the eggs at some point..." he said to himself as he looked around the tiny lab further.

Dragonology Lab!!!!!!! William had never thought this day would come, honestly, never ever. This was pretty much the best New Year's present the boss could give them... and he was as pleased as a baby dragon with a bucket of brandy and chicken's blood to see his fellow dragonologists already here.
"Hey guys!" he greeted them cheerfully, his eyes lighting up as he saw them. William then took a tour around the room, almost knocking a few files and things over here and there with his bag. Oops. "I guess we're still going to have to use our desks in the general area for some stuff," he called out to the other guys. "And keep this place strictly for lab and field work?" Not paperwork, no.

After last night's festivities, Mordred came to Level 4 early, and was pretty much ready to tackle the work week. Still upset about Harmony leaving, he was very alert to skip Level 4's Break Room. He was 99% sure that there's going to be a 'break-the-ice' activity in there for the next few days.
Upon reaching his desk, he scanned through the papers on his table and was not even slightly amused at the fact that they are being summoned for a nice chat with the new department head. River Davis-Campbell? Was his new boss a man or a woman? More importantly, is she/he related to Sophie? Squinting, a frown formed on his face, and was pretty much absolute with his decision not to go. "How about, no?" he muttered under his breath, crumpled the parchment and threw the invitation in his trash bin. It was a request after all and not a command, so he was clear to skip the shenanigan and head straight to his research work. There's a lot to be done in that department anyway.
After he locked and sealed all of his drawers, Mordred headed to the Dragonology Laboratory to run some tests on the rescued eggs...and to actually calm his mind. If only he could harness the oh-so-positive vibe of the day, he'd be grateful.
