Anyway... to the point. GREAT post!!!! I love reading Snape even though I hate his stinking guts *starts muttering "killed... Dumbledore!" in a very Mr. Crouch-ish manner* Anyway, the point is, he's a hard character to write, and I love the way you pull it off. I was sooooo annoyed when he gave Sirius detention. How dare he!!!!???? But Hermione should have learnt by now that it doesn't pay to interrupt Snape... oh well. She wouldn't be our Hermione if she didn't show off her knowledge.

I have a question, though. Why does Snape say that there is a high chance of Memory Charms backfiring? I thought Lockhart used them all the time (and the only time they didn't work was when he used Ron's messed-up wand at the end of book 2). So I don't think it's likely that they would backfire all the time.

Anyway, who cares... I still loved the post!!!!!!!!!

P.S. - The serial is SOOOOOOO cool!!!!! The Sirius-type dude is on trial for rape (which he obviously didn't do)... and he hired a great lawyer, literally won the case on the first hearing, and then WHAT DID HE DO???? Decide to open his mouth and undo the entire argument that the lawyer had built up ... all for the sake of a completely undeserving woman! Oh well... I guess that's LURVE for you.

The Marauder’s Map


“I can’t believe you got to old Snape already,” Ron laughed as they made their way to lunch.

“It doesn’t look very hard,” Sirius quipped, “I think it’s fairly obvious who he favors here!”

“And it only gets worse after the first class,” Harry predicted.

“Honestly, it wasn’t a good idea to antagonize him already,” Hermione put in.

“Look who’s talking, she-who-lost–ten-points,” Sirius teased.

Hermione flushed as the boys broke out in laughter, but her response was cut off by Colin, who walked up to them with an ear to ear grin on his face. “Professor McGonagall wants to see you in her office, immediately,” he addressed Sirius, his cheerful demeanor contrasting with what would seem to be bad news.

“I wonder why?” Sirius speculated and raised an eyebrow in feigned concentration.

“I think it’s because of your detention,” Colin said helpfully.

“Well it just might be,” Sirius nodded agreement. “Catch you later then,” he drawled and waved to the others, as Harry and Ron laughed even harder and Hermione looked on with a slightly I-told-you-so expression.

Professor McGonagall was seated behind her desk when Sirius arrived in her office. “Just like old times, isn’t it Professor?” he flashed his most winning smile and took the seat opposite her.

“Indeed it is,” McGonagall said primly. “A little too much like old times,” she added.

“So I take it you didn’t call me to ask how my first day is going?” Sirius asked in mock offense, lounging back in his chair.

“Sirius!” the professor sighed, exasperated, “on the first day? You had to get in trouble on the first day?”

“It wouldn't be the first time!" Sirius quipped. "But I see good news travels fast. What did he do, come sniveling to you already? You know he’s out to get me, he’s just looking for reasons."

“Be that as it may,” McGonagall partially conceded, “but you shouldn’t have antagonized Professor Snape already. He is in a position of authority here. No matter what your personal differences may be, you owe him respect in his classroom,” she scolded.

“I’ll behave if he does,” Sirius replied mutinously. “So I guess you aren’t going to get me out of detention, are you?” he added slyly.

“I’m sure you already know the answer to that,” the professor’s expression softened a bit; “you know we need you to set an example for Harry. Keep him out of trouble and yourself as well.”

“Ok, I promise to try, that’s all I can do.” Sirius agreed, “But Sniv- Professor Snape needs to as well,” he added.

McGonagall sighed, “fine,” she waved him off, “you can go now.”

“I’ve always enjoyed these conversations, let’s do it again sometime!” Sirius grinned and got up to leave, “come on, admit it, you missed them too, right?”

Professor McGonagall finally smiled wearily, “Let’s not do this again, wasn’t that the point? And I know better then to admit to anything around you… Go!”


After leaving McGonagall’s office, Sirius muttered a few more choice oaths about his old rival under his breath. He’d meant it when he told the professor that he’d try not to make trouble with the potion's master... for Harry's sake. He’d tolerated a lot worse then Snape’s sniveling over the years, but if the git thought he could get away with treating his godson the way he had in previous terms, then all promises were off.

Sirius navigated the corridors of Hogwarts instinctively, his confident strides taking him not to the Great Hall where everyone was having lunch, but up to Gryffindor Tower. He still needed to get that map and this could be one of his only opportunities before Harry tried to use it.

The common room and the boy’s dormitory were both empty when Sirius arrived and he lost no time finding Harry’s trunk at the end of his bed. Hopefully, the boy wasn’t already carrying the map with him this early in the term. Sirius felt a pang of regret about having to steal as he opened his godson’s trunk and began to sort through the mess he found within. Unfolded clothes, assorted class supplies, some ugly old socks, and various other possessions were all jumbled together with no semblance of order. “At least Harry won’t notice that his trunk has been tampered with right away,” Sirius thought.

Near the bottom, Sirius found two familiar objects that made him pause in his search. James’ invisibility cloak and his two way mirror. These brought back memories. Sirius sighed and couldn’t resist looking into the mirror. The glass had broken at some point and several shards were missing, however, it was still possible to see his reflection within it. He said the name of his long lost friend, but of course, James’ face did not appear as it did long ago. The mate to this mirror currently resided in his old room at Grimmauld Place. He couldn’t help but wonder why Harry never tried to use it. Sirius shook away these thoughts, he had no time for them right now, for beneath the cloak lay the object of his search, a folded piece of parchment. The Marauder’s Map that he had made back when he was sixteen, when he last looked as he did now. Sirius put the map in his inner pocket next to the Scroll of Forgetfulness. He replaced the mirror and cloak and the rest of Harry’s things into their former disarray. As he did so, however, his keen hearing picked up on footsteps on the stairs to the dormitory. Quickly he closed the trunk and made for the door just as someone was entering it.

“Brian? What are you doing?” the person asked.

Sirius Brian got seen by someone, i wonder who... Very Sirius-like the way you wrote him in the office. Great post!

Hermione and McGonagall seem to be similar, to me..idk about everyone else. Are there connections between Hermy and McGonagall in the books or did you like..idk, just use the word 'antagonized' twice? (is tired and for some reason is noticing small and probably non-important things)

She is absolutely correct. I remembered that Harry put the mirror back in his trunk, but not that it broke. Apparently the HP Lexicon forgot too, as that is where I do my research *tsk* Anyway, I added that detail into my post.
