I promised you guys a post tonight...

I lied.

I'm ready ahead of schedule (strange concept), so I will post now. This one is going out to my dear sweet friend Ally who I missed soooooooooooooooooo much!! :glomp:

The Sorting Hat

Sirius surveyed his image in the mirror, he couldn’t help being somewhat pleased, though it was really becoming quite surreal to be dressed in school robes again. The only thing missing were the house crests, something that would soon change, for the better, Sirius could only hope. He had all his belongings and trunk ready to be moved to his new dormitory, he just had to get the Sorting Ceremony over with. He could understand Dumbledore’s reasons for making him go through with the sorting again, but on the other hand, he wondered, if this was the Headmaster’s way of getting him back for some past misdeed? The question being – which one? He grinned at the mirror, if only James could be here now… This thought quickly caused the smile to fade, he’d have to stop thinking like that. It was still, even after so many years, too painful. He decided to practice one of his and James more favored tricks. The two had become experts on changing their voices and putting on different accents. (**) Since Dumbledore had asked him to change his mannerisms, Sirius brought this old talent back into play. Of course, he and James had completely different motives when they learned how to do it. They’d learned a particularly useful spell for throwing their voices onto other objects. It was more then a bit amusing to hide under the invisibility cloak and mess with people. He could remember the time they made Peter’s trunk talk to him… the look on the boy’s face was priceless. The dense git even knew that they could do it too. “Idiot!” Sirius said aloud in the voice he had chosen. “Snape is prat!” a clock on the mantle piped up. Excellent! He still had it! Speaking of the clock, it was time to go…

Professor McGonagall stood in the Entrance Hall, dozens of little first years looking up at her in awe. The rest of the students must already be in the Great Hall awaiting their entrance. Sirius made to walk around the lot of them to go find a seat…

“Mr. Wulfric,” McGonagall snapped. “You’re late! And where do you think you are going?”

“I was– “he tried.

“Clearly lost,” the professor finished for him. “You’ll be joining your fellow classmates waiting to be sorted.”

Sirius bit his tongue to keep from responding. Dumbledore and McGonagall were certainly getting a few laughs at his expense on this. The first years turned to look at him, they’re eyes round with amazement. He shot them a grin and a jaunty wave. “So what house do you want?” he asked at large. The kids continued to gape and Sirius remembered how much fun he and the others used to have with the first years…

“Itty bitty first years!” Peeves appeared to do his usual taunting of the new kids. “How cute they look all dressed in their robes…” the poltergeist cackled and dropped a few water balloons. “And – “he paused, noticing Sirius, a purely evil smile lighting his face, “you! Buahahahahahaha!!!” he rolled around in the air in apparent hysterics. Well at least Peeves was more open about having his fun.

“That would be enough, Peeves!” McGonagall had just got her signal to enter to Hall. “This way,” she began to lead the frightened first years.

Sirius glared at the laughing specter. Peeves was undaunted and continued to giggle maniacally and point at him as he passed by.

The Great Hall seemed much brighter in comparison to the Entrance Hall. The hundreds of floating candles set off a merry glow and the enchanted ceiling above glittered with starlight. The air buzzed with hundreds of voices and carried the scent of the feast that was to come. Unlike the first years, Sirius had seen all this before, and so took this moment to look over the students sitting at the tables. He could tell that his presence among the first years was causing a bit of a stir. After all, it was impossible to hide among them, being head and shoulders taller. He stared back boldly, catching some of their eyes and setting many of them (the girls in particular) into furious bouts of whispering. At the Slytherin table, his cousin Draco had leaned toward a large, rather dense looking boy to say something. At his other side, a small girl clung possessively to his arm. The girl noticed Sirius’ glance and looked at him appraisingly. She smiled slyly and winked. Sirius winked back, but wondered if he should warn Draco about that one.

At the front of the Hall, on a three legged stool, sat the Sorting Hat. It had just completed it’s song for this year and McGonagall was wasting no time getting her first years sorted, as the first student on her list was already placing the battered old hat on her head. Sirius glanced in the other direction at the Gryffindor table. As usual, it was a hive of activity. He could see Harry and Ron laughing and deep in conversation about something, pausing briefly to look up and clap each time a first year was sorted, with more enthusiasm for the new Gryffindors, of course. Sirius thought wryly, that he and James had paid little attention to the sorting as well. Hermione, on the other hand, was watching closely and smiling in encouragement to each new student. At the staff table, the professors watched the proceedings, most sipping from their goblets and chatting amongst each other, applauding warmly for each new first year. Dumbledore smiled fondly at all of the youngsters and spoke softly to Madam Pomfrey, sitting at his left side. There was only one person not involved in any conversations. Snape sat next to an empty chair, his arms crossed over his chest, glowering in Sirius’ direction. Did some things never change? The man could cast a dark cloud over any festive occasion. Sirius snorted irrelevantly to himself and thought he’d have to remember that one. Suddenly he realized that the name that was now being called was his own…

“Wulfric, Brian Wulfric!” McGonagall repeated.

The voices around the hall hushed somewhat, as this sorting had become of particular interest. Sirius sauntered up to the stool and sat down. He gave the head of Gryffindor house a look meant to convey deep suffering as she stood in front of him. The corners of her mouth turned up in smallest degree to indicate that she did indeed find this amusing, before she dropped the hat on Sirius’ head. The hat, though still a bit large, sat at a jaunty angle on his dark hair. It failed to cover Sirius’s eyes, however, he being a bit larger then the average first year, so he could still see the students at the four tables looking on in interest.

“Can we get on with this?” he murmured to the hat.

“Aha!!” the hat murmured back. “I remember you!”

“Brilliant! Then you’ll recall where you placed me last time.” Sirius quipped.

The sorting hat chuckled softly. “Then you will recall, that we had more then one possibility for you…”

“I remember,” Sirius replied, exasperated.

“Still as brave as ever, I see,” the hat reminisced. “But you were the first of your family not to go to Slytherin… I always wondered about that decision.” The hat pondered and Sirius was convinced the piece of worn out head gear was intent on torturing him. “Not so nice!” the sorting hat laughed aloud.

The whisperings of the sorting hat were not audible to the others sitting at the tables, but the hat’s laughter clearly was, as more conversations became hushed around the room. It had become clear that this was becoming one of those less straightforward sortings.

“Can we stop strolling down memory lane and get on with it!” Sirius hissed under his breath.

The hat was undaunted, “I see you are still extremely loyal, perhaps more then ever before…” it continued.

“You’re going to consider every house, aren’t you?” Sirius sighed.

“And, ah, still one of the sharpest minds I’ve ever sorted…” the hat answered.

“Then go on and place me in Ravenclaw, if you must…” Sirius growled.

The sorting hat laughed, “I think I’ll sort you in…”

**Footnote: Regarding Sirius and his talent for accents. I'll start off by saying that I am ignorent of English accents (Ally I'm sure can enlighten me), however I am aware that people from different regions speak a little differently. For us Americans, it's not unlike how we can tell the difference between a Texan and a New Yorker. At the Phelps twins Q&A session (and I totally forgot to tell Emma about this one - so you got the scoop here!), James talked about how on the POA set, Gary Oldman would walk around the set in his Sirius costume and amuse them by putting on different English accents. I thought, "good for me, because I'm about to give his younger counterpart the same talent." I just thought I'd share!

YES! We need to have hope, Siry! B/c w/o Hope, we’e doomed. Doomed I tell you. Don’t worry, I swear I’ll go on strike, if you’re put in Slytherin.. *Thinks* How does on go about a strike on the computer? It surely won’t mean not reading the story…*Gets Ideas* Trust me, as evil as I am, there are other ways…*Loves the fact no one can get any close to reading her mind*

AWWWW…. *Pets Siry* That’s so sad. I was just reading a thread yesterday about Siry staying as a ghost. That would’ve caused him so much pain. AS much as Siry dying is sad, it’s nice to know he’ll see James and Lily again. I think it’s better for him..*Thinks*WHAT AM I SAYING…He needs to say alive FOR ME AND LIZ!!! Hehe…

YAH RIGHT! Hehe. I wonder where this will lead to? Are you gonna go behind the scenes and add some memories? Aww, I need to grab ahold of a good Maurader Reunion Fic *gives Liz ideas* Lol..That’s okay, no need to rush..Maybe after Robie’s fic?
Quote:

Mr. Wulfric,” McGonagall snapped. “You’re late! And where do you think you are going?”
He has style…Lol, he can be fashionable late! OMG, WE’RE THERE *Remembers* Come on, man. You can’t leave it at that. Maybe if I reply a really long post and never get off doing it, You’ll update by then…Heheh..No, I have Patty’s fic to finish…Sadly, I have to wait…*Sniffs*

First Years are soOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN! Hehe, I’m having just as much fun at the rpg…*Thinks* But, I’m being very very nice…just evil, in a good way…LMAO!It’s in our nature, you can’t blame us…

Well at least Peeves was more open about having his fun.
Lmao, I won’t chase him down with a broom. I like Peeves. Yes, as annoying as he is. [Quote]

That description of Pansy reminded me of something else. She reminds me of Samira (From The Ring) I dunno, why *Gets creeped out and then flees from the girl* Sorry, I hated the Ring…

At the front of the Hall, on a three legged stool, sat the Sorting Hat
No SORTING SONg? Come on, a little message from the hat never hurt anyone. Might that’s okay, it would’ve took a long time, and I’d gone nuts without more updates!

The man could cast a dark cloud over any festive occasion.
See, you’d think after all these years we’d finally use the decription of dark and black as his heart, to tell us HE IS REALLY EVIL! Or will one day do an evil deed HEHE! THE HBP BAN IS OUT (Is it only in Zonko;s? I’ll go check before I say anything)
Quote:

The sorting hat chuckled softly. “Then you will recall, that we had more then one possibility for you…”
Peeves I might like. The sorting hat’s song also. But I hate the sorting hat. Mainly for no reason. Its just like I’ve said some ppl on this earth you like, others you despise.
Quote:

“Can we stop strolling down memory lane and get on with it!” Sirius hissed under his breath.
YAH HISS AT HIM, Before I throw something. Remember Liz, me throwing things gets to no where (Exceot maybe make me feel better) But, I know the ending..LIZ!!!!!!!!!
Quote:

The sorting hat laughed, “I think I’ll sort you in…”
Now to ,mmy thoughts. I wont babble on about how evil you are. Every one has done that Liz. However, I shall say what I think. YOU will put him in Gruffindor. You would not put us through all this pain, and heartache (even if I do have Lai, it’s not enough) only to tell us he’s in Slytherin. Right? No need to ask again. I’m most certain. Unless I’ve lost my touch… He can’t be a Ravvie? We all know he’s smart, but come on? I don’t think so….
That’s the end, Until next time my LIzzylove,
(I’m still posting my crazy remarks even if you don’t reply back…Just read tehm and then get right to the next update! K? Kewl!)
