Ok, this half of a post (as will be the second half) is dedicated to my dearest Tina who is so loyal and anxious for more Siry!!! A Trip to Diagon Alley Sirius never thought he would be grateful to be going on an outing to Diagon Alley to buy a bunch of school books, but it’s always amazing how one’s perspective can change. Being back at Hogwarts was great, but with no students and very few members of the staff hanging about, there really wasn’t all that much going on. He noticed ruefully that not even Snivellus was around. The thought of the greasy git enjoying a summer holiday was equally annoying as it was unlikely (Snape probably never enjoyed anything). Nevertheless, the potions master wasn’t here and it irked Sirius for some reason. It also irked him that he was standing here in the Great Hall waiting for an escort to take him to Diagon Alley. “Are we quite ready to go, Mr. Black?” someone asked behind him. Sirius knew the voice immediately. He turned and grinned at his former transfiguration professor, “I was born ready, Professor McGonagall,” he teased. “And it really should be Mr. Wulfric now, don’t you think?” McGonagall waved the comment away as if it were no matter, “yes, yes, I know,” she said peering at him over her glasses. “I can’t believe I’m teaching you a second time.” “It’s our lucky day,” Sirius grinned. “Besides, you loved having me in class.” “Right,” she answered primly, “and just for the record, that didn’t work the first time and it won’t work this time either.” McGonagall waved one finger in admonishment, “and I take points even from my own house if it is deserved.” “If you say so,“ he winked, he loved pushing her buttons. “Besides, it’s possible I won’t be in your house anyway.” “And where did you get this notion?” the Deputy Headmistress scoffed, leading her student into the staff lounge. “From Dumbledore,” Sirius stated simply. “I need to be sorted all over again.” McGonagall’s lips pressed into a thin line, “once a Gryffindor, always a Gryffindor,” she retorted lighting a fire in the fireplace. “That’s what I said… Hang on – we’re going by floo?” Sirius was disappointed. “Well, we’re not apparating, are we?” McGonagall countered almost accusingly. “And I won’t go by broom,” she added. Sirius pictured the straight-laced professor with her bun disheveled and glasses askew from the wind and had to admit she had a point. At the very least, floo powder was a quick form of transportation, if uncomfortable and slightly messy. They were soon exiting from the public floo in Diagon Alley. Sirius brushed the loose soot from his clothes and noticed that McGonagall managed to look as unruffled as ever. “We’ll have to stop at Gringott’s for some money,” he ventured, realizing suddenly that he had none. “Of course we do not,” McGonagall countered and handed him a pouch of galleons, “Since you gave Professor Dumbledore privileges to your vault, he has kept it safe. He has already made this withdrawal for you.” “Well that was mighty considerate of him,” Sirius drawled weighing the bag in his hand and mentally judging the value of it’s contents. He should have plenty of spending money. “So, I guess I’ll meet you back here…” Sirius was sincerely hoping that he would not have to spend this entire outing with the professor. McGonagall, for her part, appeared as though this prospect did not appeal to her either. “Two hours, Mr. Wulfric,” she gave him a stern look as he appeared about to protest, “two hours, ”she repeated, “right here. Here’s your list and I expect that you will try not to be too conspicuous.” Sirius promised his good behavior and darted off into the crowd before McGonagall could change her mind. He hadn’t felt this free in a long time. For the first time in ages, he could walk about in public without fear of recognition. Well, for the most part, he would have to avoid those who knew him as a young man, but that was a vast improvement over his earlier situation. As he passed many of the shops, he saw that photos of himself still hung next to those of the escaped Death Eaters. This bothered him, but there was nothing that could be done about it. There was an obvious increase in security here on Diagon Alley. Sirius could see several wizards he knew to be aurors monitoring the crowd. The atmosphere was not as relaxed as it once was, as many people seemed to be on edge. The streets teemed with Hogwart’s students shopping for the new term. Sirius scanned their faces for a dark haired boy with glasses and a scar, but did not see him. Sirius consulted his list of supplies and decided to get started. After purchasing his parchment and quills, potions ingredients, and cauldrons (all of which he was having shipped to his attention at Hogwarts, he’d learned a long time ago that it was worth the extra galleons not to have to carry that stuff around), he encountered an interesting shop called “Weasleys’ Wizarding Wheezes”. He grinned to himself, wondering what Molly must think of the place. He had to see this. Inside the shop was crowded with students and every possible sweet, joke or explosive one could imagine. The proprietors were clearly doing a booming business and Sirius couldn’t imagine Molly having an issue with that. Fred and George were mingling with their customers and periodically making recommendations and demonstrations of various items. Sirius figured since he was ‘pretending’ to be a student, he really needed to be prepared with a few joke shop supplies… He selected some of the twins newer (and frankly in some cases more dangerous inventions) and went to check out. He decided it was safest not to have these particular items shipped to him. The twins showed no signs of recognition beyond noticing a profitable sale when they approached Sirius. “I see you’re a man of distinguished taste,” Fred observed. “Going to Hogwarts by any chance?” George asked. “As a matter of fact, yes,” Sirius replied. “What year?” Fred asked while packing up the merchandise. “You don’t look familiar,” George continued, counting back Sirius’ change. “Well, I wouldn’t,” Sirius answered casually, “haven’t been there yet. My mum’s a bit cracked you see,” he made a circular motion with his finger to indicate crazy, ”doesn’t believe in school. But I finally won. I’ll be a 6th year” he grinned. “Brilliant!” Fred handed Sirius his parcels, “you’ll know our brother Ron then.” “And if you ever are in need of our services…” George started, “…feel free to send an owl,” Fred gave Sirius a card for the shop. They were clearly hoping for more business. “Or just bug our brother, he won’t mind,” George laughed. “I’ll do that,” as Sirius turned to leave, he noticed a pretty girl about his age eying him up on the way out. He winked at her impudently and decided that this was just getting better and better. Next will be more Diagon Alley!!! |

Hey Lissy! Loved the post :) Cant wait for the next one! Wahay, youve been stamped! |
I just wanted to say that I am something of a literary critic. Not trying to scare you or anything, but I like the fics I read to not only be entertaining, but well written. You do both wonderfully. One of the amazing characteristics of your story is your ability to write emphatically. We as the readers can tap into Sirius' emotions and feel what he is feeling. It is this skill that many fanfic writers lack and I truly enjoy. Keep up the good work! |
Gah Lissy! You have to go away on that note? Who was the girl I wonderr? And won't Harry recognise Sirius from the pensieve? You can rest assured I will be waiting (im)patiently for you to get back and post some more. *taps foot, drums fingers* Love you Lissy, Have a great time on holiday! LadyV. |

A Black Family Reunion After a quick stop at Florean Fortescue’s for some ice cream (it was still as good as he remembered), Sirius moved on to Madam Malkin’s Robes for all Occasions. He quickly selected several sets of school robes, a set of dress robes and a variety of casual clothes. Thankfully, the shop was not busy and he was first in line to submit (albeit impatiently) to the usual session of pinning and fitting with the store’s proprietor. “A fine looking man such as yourself should have his robes fitted just right,” the woman chattered around a mouthful of pins as Sirius complained for what felt like the hundredth time that the robes looked just fine as they were. He knew that his two hours of freedom were rapidly running out and he didn’t prefer to spend more time then he had to being stuck like a pin cushion. He hadn’t even had an opportunity to see Harry, who he was sure must be around. This was the most popular day to shop for school… “And such fine taste you have,” the woman was undaunted, “some of my best fabric.” This thought abruptly caused Madam Malkin to notice the lack of an authority figure accompanying her young customer. Sirius picked up on the robemaker’s pointed look around the store, “don’t worry, I have the money,” he replied, “are we almost done?” he asked again. The woman’s face brightened, “just a few finishing touches… There… And there… Done!” she declared, surveying her handiwork. “How many sets do you want?” She indicated the large pile of fabrics that Sirius had piled up. Sirius looked at his reflection in the mirror, maybe it was all those years of not having anything new, but he had to admit that he liked the woman’s work. “I’ll take them all,” he decided. Madam Malkin beamed, “you’re going to break some hearts!” she clapped her hands together. Sirius smiled and attempted to ignore this comment, he knew what it usually lead to. He took out his bag of galleons in an attempt to speed the transaction along… “The girls are going to love you,” the robemaker gushed, “My niece, Tina, a lovely girl, she goes to Hogwarts too. Fifth year, Hufflepuff, you should look her up.” Sirius promised politely that he would do so as he stacked the rest of his selections on the counter to be rung up. As Madam Malkin folded up the boy’s purchases, accepted his name and payment, and promised to have everything sent off to Hogwarts, the bell above the door chimed, announcing that another customer had entered the shop. “Oh dear!” she exclaimed, “you haven’t selected your house colors!” The woman reached beneath the counter and pulled out a drawer full of ties and house emblems to be affixed to the school robes. Sirius hesitated with his hand over the red and gold Gryffindor colors. The Slytherin green and silver seemed to mock him sitting there… “No colors just yet,” he sighed with regret, deciding not to risk it. “Special case,” he added by way of explanation. “I’ll send an order along later.” “Draco darling,” a voice called from across the shop. “Come and have a look dear.” It was then that Sirius noticed the customers who had entered the store. A good looking young man his own age was standing nearby observing Sirius with interest. If the boy’s pale coloring and aristocratic features did not give away his identity, his intelligent grey eyes would have made him instantly recognizable as they were quite like Sirius’ own grey gaze. An inheritance from a mutual Black family ancestor, those eyes sized Sirius up with the instinctual recognition of another wizard of wealth and class. Sirius could detect no hint that the boy knew who he was as he came over to address him. “Going to Hogwarts?” Draco asked, though Sirius was sure that the boy already knew the answer. “I’ve never seen you there,” he finished almost accusingly. “Well, you wouldn’t have, as I’ve never been there yet,” Sirius replied in kind, “private tutoring, you see.” “Draco…” Narcissa called from across the store. Draco cast a scowl in his mother’s direction, and then turned back to Sirius, “yeah, I know what you mean. She would have had me study at home too, if she had her way,” the boy gestured toward the back of the store. “I personally would have chosen Durmstrang, but Hogwart’s will do for now.” Sirius agreed to this statement while doing his best to keep his back toward his cousin. With a quick glance, he spotted her blonde hair coming in their direction to investigate what was holding up her son. Sirius figured that Narcissa would have no reason to suspect that the teenager before her was the same young man who had played pranks on her at Black Family get-togethers so many years ago, and had even less reason to connect him to the escaped prisoner whom she believed dead, but even if Draco did not realize it, the family’s good looks were plainly evident in Sirius’ features and it was best not to risk any awkward questions. “The name’s Malfoy, by the way,” the blond youth extended his hand for Sirius to shake, "Draco Malfoy, Slytherin House. I expect I’ll see you there.” “Darling?” Narcissa was almost upon them, “who are you talking to?” “I’m Brian Wulfric,” Sirius hastily shook Draco’s hand. “See you at school,” he agreed, while thinking the boy should not count on seeing him in the Slytherin Common room, not if Sirius had anything to say about it… Sirius’ last glance as he made his way out the door was of Narcissa and Madam Malkin converging on the scowling Draco. Sirius felt a brief sympathy for the boy being so clearly overmatched, but all thoughts of his cousin left his mind as he raced out of the shop and headlong into a man passing the store from the opposite direction… A legendary LadyV type cliffie... :evillaugh |
Question: Why do we always manage to meet Draco in the clothing shop? Answer: Because the boy's got styyyyyylllle!!! :) Psssttt... Tina, did you catch my little reference for you? |
