Chapter 1: New Girl
16 yr-old Justin Carter walked through the barrier to Platform 9 3/4 and saw that there were non of his friends there yet. He stood and waited for them to turn up. Eventually a tall brown haired boy, very much like Justin's, walked through the barrier with his cart loaded with his owl, his books and his trunk which had the Initials R.B. written in gold on the end. "Alright Carter. Long time no see mate" Ryan shouted to his mate who was still stood looking for his friend's. He finally turned to see Ryan. "Alright mate. Good Summer?" he asked Ryan. Ryan shrugged. "It was ok. A bit boring but ok. I went to Canada for a week" he replied. Justin looked to the ground. O how he missed his home state of Stratford. "What about you?" Ryan asked. Justin looked up again. "I went Ice-Skating with my family. Dad got re-married and Mum's still not settled down yet. Says after she split from Dad she wasn't getting married again" he explained. Ryan placed his hand on Justin's shoulder. "In other words she's rather be a single mum than be married to someone like your dad again" he replied. Justin shook Ryan's hand off his shoulder and gave him a stern look. "Don't say that about my Dad. It may not have worked our between him and mum but he's still a great Dad who loves me and Jaxon" he replied coldly. Ryan stepped back apologetically. He always seemed to say the wrong thing in this kind of situation. There was an awkward silence. Then Caitlin came walking through the barrier with her brother and her cart. "Alright lads" she said breaking the awkward silence. It was still awkwardly silent. Justin and Ryan said nothing. Then another girl walked onto the Platform. A girl no-one knew. A blonde haired girl with bright Blue eyes and pale skin. She seemed perfect. In Justin's eyes anyway.

"Excuse. Can someone direct me to the Hogwarts Express" the girl asked. Justin pointed to the train. The un-named girl smiled at Justin and shook his hand. "I'm Melanie" she said. Justin smiled back and shook her hand. "I'm Justin. This is Caitlin, Ryan and Christian" he said. Melanie shook everyone else's hand but paid particular attention to Justin. "I'm new to Hogwarts. I'm in Slytherin" she explained. Justin smirked. Ahhh! Great! Another Slytherin to be friend's with. "So are we. You can sit with us on the train if you want" Justin said sounding rather goofy. Melanie smiled and nodded. "I'd love to" she said. Justin smiled and boarded the train. Everyone else followed behind. "So where are you all from?" Melanie asked. "I'm from Canada" Justin replied. "We're also from Canada but a diifferent state to him." Cailtin replied. She finally got a word in edgeways. The rest of the train ride continued the same way. With cheerful conversation and everyone getting to know Melanie and vice-versa.

Okies guys so I know this was inactive after it was approved but it's active again now and I am pleased to come at you with an update

Chapter 2: Short Introduction

Once the train stopped and the students descending from its many cars, they strolled toward some carts that awaited them. Justin looked at Melanie and smiled.

“So, all set for the best year of your life so far?” he asked her. Melanie shrugged. She didn’t know what to expect nor was she aware that he thought she was cute. But she wasn’t going to ask him if that was what he thought. No, she wasn’t stupid enough to do that.

“Well I don’t really know what to expect. But I’m sure it’ll be pretty good here” Melanie replied. Justin smiled. It suddenly occurred to him that she’d not said where she was from. She’d failed to mention that little bit of information. But did he dare ask her.

“So where are you from? You never said on the train” Justin asked. Melanie looked at and half-smiled.

“I’m from US. California to be precise. Does my accent not give that away?” Melanie replied. Justin giggled slightly. Melanie’s usual sweet yet mischievous smile seemed to have disappeared. Justin looked at her.

“I never meant for that to seem insulting. I was giggling because I stupidly didn’t think you were American when you first spoke” he told her trying his hardest to make himself not sound like a complete jerk. He wasn’t a jerk. Was he? Only Caitlin could answer that question but she seemed to be deep in conversation on the other side of the cart with Ryan and Christian. That sucked. O well. He could sit and talk to the amazing blonde haired girl with an incredible smile, beautiful eyes and one heck of a great personality. But she appeared to be insulted easily and that wasn’t a good thing in his group of friends. Nor was it good for a Slytherin. But she’d get to know how a Slytherin worked around the many traits of the other houses. But that made him sound prejudiced against them which was not him at all.

“It’s ok. I think I got what you were giggling at” Melanie told him. Stupidly she’d put her hand on his hand. Not a good thing. She looked down at her hand and quickly moved it away. Oops. She probably shouldn’t have done that. She looked up at Justin hoping he wasn’t going to say anything about her daft gesture. Was it obvious she liked him yet?

“So tell me a little bit about Hogwarts. Are there any students I should be careful of?” she said quickly changing the subject before Justin could say anything about what she’d just done. She really didn’t mean to do it. But Justin didn’t seem too annoyed at it so that was one good thing, right?

“Well there aren’t really many people to avoid. Draco Malfoy considers himself the king of Slytherin but he’s nothing. Be careful when it comes to pulling pranks and stuff, Snape is one teacher you should never get on the bad side of, but he is easy to prank and stuff. Makes for great target practice. He’s also the Head of Slytherin. Dumbledore is pretty helpful but get on his bad side and you know you’ve done something terribly wrong” Justin explained. That frightened Melanie a little but she could handle mean students and strict professors having putting up with them when she was a student at California Wizarding School. But that was history and it was going to remain deep in history too.

“Sounds awesome” she said as the carts began approaching the castle one by one. The students filed off the carts one by one and into Hogwarts grounds. And surely enough, there stood a tall, mysterious, blonde haired boy who seemed like he was the leader of a small pack of followers. It looked like they were going to target the new girl. But Justin didn’t appear to be allowing it to happen. Draco went to pull her away from him but Justin vigorously pulled his hand away from Melanie hurting him in the process.

“Don’t ever touch me again, Carter” Draco said furiously.

“Don’t touch her then, Malfoy. And maybe you’ll get through this term without being targeted for many pranks to come. Got it, pretty boy with no true friends” Justin replied and shoved past him, Melanie and his ‘loyal followers’ behind him. They were only called ‘loyal followers’ by the likes of Draco and his motley crew. But to Justin, they were his true best friends and they would remain like that for the rest of the time they knew each other. This would hopefully be forever.

“I take it that was Draco Malfoy. He seems worse than you described” Melanie said. Justin looked round at her and nodded.

“Just avoid him if you can and when he is near you, try to get the courage to confront him. He hates that and it makes for great teasing when he can’t take his own stuff thrown in his face” he replied and inadvertently slipped his hand in hers. Not taking noticed of what he’d done, he carried on walking up to the castle hand in hand with Melanie.

Chapter 3: The Start of Something New
Once inside the castle and in the common room, Justin wasted no time in getting to know Melanie even more. He took it as his chance to ask him the question that he was dying to ask her. But did he dare ask her? No he didn’t. Instead he just sat talking to her about random things. Meaningless things from the looks of things. But to him, it was all worth while.

“Are you just gonna stare at her or what?” Ryan asked. Justin turned to him and shrugged. He wasn’t sure what to do. Melanie looked at Justin and smiled cutely but she was hiding something. Something that she had never told anybody before. It was the real reason she’d come to Hogwarts in the first place.

“Mel, you don’t mind if I call you that?” Justin asked. Melanie shook her head. But she knew there was more to that. There always was and she was showing obvious signs of something that he could never experience. Could he?

“Is there something you’re not telling me? I mean, you’re showing obvious signs of…………”

“It doesn’t matter. It’s in the past and I’m away from it now” Melanie interrupted. There was no way she was going to admit this to anybody. Not even the boy that was possibly going to be her boyfriend.

“Justin Carter, you can get yourself a girl?” a familiar platinum blonde said from behind the sofa situated in front of the ever flaming green fire. Justin looked suspiciously at Melanie then looked at the platinum blonde, mysterious looking boy.

“Get a life, Malfoy” he demanded. The now identified platinum blonde haired boy sniggered at Justin and walked round to the front. He scanned Melanie and smiled charmingly at her. It was almost as if she was going to fall for it. But she appeared to be. She returned the smile looking straight into his icy eyes. She seemed to be delving deep within. But could she snap out of it? Was Draco’s charm getting the better of Justin’s? No. It couldn’t be. Could it?

“Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, I’d like to go this term without being in detention because of dueling with you?” Justin asked. Melanie snapped out of Draco’s charm and looked at the feuding boys. She slowly stepped away from them and stood beside Caitlin. Should they stop the boys? It didn’t seem like a good idea.

“I take it Draco didn’t give you the snakey charm on the way to castle then? I mean, you seemed pretty caught up in his eyes” Caitlin said. Melanie looked at her and shook her head.

“Justin never really gave me a chance to do anything. Are they always like this?” she replied. Caitlin nodded. Were they always like that? Understatement. The two of them saw themselves as the Slytherin kings. They just didn’t see each other in that light. Instead they saw each other as arch enemies. And it appeared that Melanie was just going to make things worse. Melanie looked at the still feuding boys and watched as Justin got increasingly angrier and Draco got even closer to him, intimidating him. It appeared to be something that was easily done. And that was never a good thing. Not in the eyes of evil. But were they really evil?

“Guy’s, just stop” Melanie pleaded with them. Both Draco and Justin looked at Melanie and gave her a charming smile. Melanie couldn’t resist but smile back at them. But it then occurred to her that she was the route cause of this and she had to stop it from going any further. Otherwise one of them may have ended up hurt, or even worse, dead. Then where would she be? Lost and without anyone to be in love with.

“Look, I’m the one that caused this one. Draco, from what I’ve seen you’re like…….. The alpha snake or something. And I don’t like that. Justin, you’ve been a great person since I got to the platform. And quite frankly, you’re my type. But Draco, I got caught up in his annoyingly fake charm” Melanie explained. Justin and Draco looked at each other than at her.

“Huh?” they said in unison. They both appeared to be confused but only one of them appeared to be happy.

“What are you saying?” Justin asked. Melanie smiled and pulled him to the side away from Draco. Draco looked on in disbelief as Melanie leant in and kissed Justin ON. THE. LIPS. He couldn’t believe it. He’d lost to Justin Carter. Again. How was that possible? Justin looked at her and smiled.

“So what does this mean?” he asked. Melanie smiled.

“It means I wanna date you, but you’re gonna have to be patient. I will tell you everything in the end, but right now, I just wanna focus on getting to know you more before you learn the ins and outs of me. And trust me, there is a lot to take in” she warned. Justin nodded in agreement.

“I can do that. But I don’t think he’s happy” he replied indicating the disgusted and vengeful look on Draco’s face. Melanie looked at Caitlin for help.

“I just dug myself in a very deep whole didn’t I?” she asked. Justin nodded.

“You dug me in one too, he’s not gonna stop dueling me until I’m out of the way. Even if that does mean a repeat of last year” Justin explained. Melanie looked at Justin then at Draco.

“Draco attempted to hex me, it worked but it backfired too. So we both ended up in the hospital wing suffering from quite a lot of trauma, only I came off worse” Justin explained. Melanie looked at a still vengeful Draco and shrugged.

“Sorry” she mouthed to him. Draco shook his head and walked off with Blaise, Pansy, Crabb and Goyle following closely behind him. Justin giggled and hugged Melanie.

Yep. My office isn't working very well so I'm having to update whilst in college on a Friday. So it'll be every Friday that I'll be updating guys.
