| Anna Potter and the Other Prophecy - Sa16+ Sassenach | RAVENPUFF | Sing me a song of a lass that is gone | bookDRAGON | #awkwardturtle<# I'm Jess, and this is a story I've been working on for a few years. Basically daydreaming about Harry Potter one day (as I do) and I thought about an alternative - what if he had a sister? There's also slight discrepancy here in comparison to the series, as I've just moved things around/omitted/added thing for purpose of my story. When I've skipped over certain canon events, assume they occurred as written in the books.
There will be a bit of romance here, perhaps a love triangle, some tragedy, and adventure, so I hope you enjoy the story! DISCLAIMER: The universe in which I am writing my story, and all cannon characters are strictly the creation of J.K. Rowling. Chapter One: In the Beginning Harry and Anna Potter were born to James and Lily Potter on July 31st 1980. Orphaned at the age of one, the twins were left in the care of their mother’s sister and her husband – Petunia and Vernon Dursley. Of course, Harry was treated the worse – he was a boy. But Anna, being a girl, was treated slightly better. Their caregivers had always wanted a little girl, but never could. Anna was a mirror image of Petunia’s sister, Lily, inside and out. She and her husband knew full well that they were both freaks, just like their parents.
What happens in this story is that Voldemort had two choices. He could kill Harry Potter to become the world’s most powerful Wizard, taking out the one with the power to vanquish him, or he can have Anna become a follower, his right arm. See, Anna was born with an extraordinary skill of dark magic, unlike so many others. Skill that Voldemort desired and required on his side if he were to succeed with his plans. However, this skill was not yet ‘activated’, and Anna had no knowledge of this. For her to be able to perform this dark magic, Anna would have to become a Death Eater. She would have to voluntarily join Voldemort and his followers, or bind herself into the family of a Death Eater, but at her own free will. The two prophecies he heard that fateful night had left him to ponder. Not wanting to waste time, he took the option he believed to be the quickest and easiest. Voldemort knew coercion would not activate her dark powers. Besides, she was an infant. He had at least 17 years to wait until he could fulfil that prophecy, so he went for Harry. We all know how that ended. So, after his attempt to kill Harry Potter had backfired, he had to re-think his angle. He knew Anna would want nothing to do with the Dark Arts, or him; because together that was what had killed her parents and left her and Harry as orphans.
When Harry and Anna received their letters for Hogwarts, they were overcome with joy. They had always been outcast at their school, thanks to Dudley and his cronies, but they had each other. They liked to call themselves ‘The Freaks’. It agitated Dudley that they embraced his taunts, which the twins liked to see, but it also made them feel stronger against what was said to them. Every now and then they could make things happen, things they just couldn’t explain.
When Anna was 9 she fell in love will Billy Taint, who lived down the street. They were in the same class at school. He was the only person who didn’t make fun of either her or Harry, but he didn’t acknowledge them either. When he asked Lucy Karl to be his girlfriend, Anna was heartbroken. She, with her dark red hair and freckles, her green eyes, and her big lips, was nothing compared to Lucy. Lucy had short, curly black hair, bright blue eyes, and no freckles! She had the perfect smile, and straight teeth. Anna understood why he had never noticed her before – she was too ordinary. When she went home, she had a bath and cried tears of anger and sadness. When she got out, her eyes had changed colour! They were bright Blue! How did this happen? It reminded her of the time she was 5 and shopping for clothes with her Auntie Petunia.
Petunia knew she could not dress Anna in Dudley’s old clothes, being 8 sizes bigger than petite little Anna. She would get stares from the other parents at school, and people would begin to think badly of her. So Petunia bought her some plain coloured clothing from the cheap shop. Anna didn’t care; she didn't have to wear Dudley's stinky fat clothes, unlike Harry. As they were walking around, a girl of 7 came out from the hair salon with her mum. She had her hair cut across her face, a fringe, and her hair was all different lengths, it was layered. Anna had never had her hair cut before. “Auntie ‘Tunia? Can they make my hair like that too, please?” she asked.
Her aunt pursed her lips. It was almost a reflex when the twins spoke to her. “I’ll cut it myself when we get home,” she replied quickly, not wanting to spend any more money on her niece.
When they got home Petunia cut a hole out of a garbage bag and put it over Anna’s head and started cutting. Her fringe was uneven and far too short. She cut chunks from Anna’s hair that weren’t even and were very noticeable. Anna went to look at her new hair, thinking it would look like the other girl’s hair. It did not. Anna cried herself to sleep, but the next morning, when she looked in the mirror – her fringe was straight, and her hair was subtly layered. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. It was ugly last night, and now… it was perfect! Petunia didn’t even notice – she thought she had done it that well.
Anna remembered that as she looked into the mirror at her almond shaped blue eyes. “What… How is this possible?” she thought.
She went down to breakfast, but Petunia, Vernon and Dudley did not even notice. They rarely looked at the twins, or even spoke to them. They made their orders, or the small amount of conversation, as if speaking to dust. Harry noticed though. He looked wide eyed at her, and she gave him a look as to say “not now you prat!”
The next day, however, they were back to their usual green, and she hadn’t thought anything more of it until her 11th birthday. Their whole life had been turned right side up. They were at Diagon Alley with Rubeus Hagrid, and had met so many wonderfully kind people. They were POPULAR! They had never had any friends, apart from each other. Their life, suddenly, had purpose. They knew who their parents were, and that they had sacrificed their own lives for their children. Filled with a brand new spark, the twins eagerly awaited entering the school their parents were taught at.

| Sassenach | RAVENPUFF | Sing me a song of a lass that is gone | bookDRAGON | #awkwardturtle<# Chapter Two: First Years Part I “Thanks,” Anna muttered to her uncle, as he unloaded their trunks and pushed them himself. In a moment, the Dursleys were gone. Anna watched the space they had just turned from. Good, they were gone. She turned her head, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. “Gone,” she said. It was the first time in their lives they were without the Dursleys. “No Dudley to shove sand in my mouth.”
“No Dudley to stop us from having friends,” Harry added.
“No Dudley to stop us from making friends,” Anna said, a serious look on her young face.
Harry just smiled and nodded. They wouldn’t be going somewhere to be ‘Dudley’s cousins’; they were going somewhere that Dudley had never been heard of.
“No Dudley to eat all the cake,” Anna said, and the twins laughed. “I wonder if there WILL be cake? Or… or pudding?”
“I hope so. Or custard tarts!”
There they stood for a few minutes, speculating about all the delicious things they would be able to eat, getting giddy at the thought. They each grabbed their own trolley and began pushing it towards platform 9, but there was no sign saying Platform 9 ¾. “Where do we go?” Anna asked.
Harry shrugged; both their hearts sank a little as they looked around in all directions for their platform. Neither wanting to admit to it, but both thinking what if this is just a joke the Dursleys played on us? But no, it couldn’t be a joke. There was a large family walking, talking about Hogwarts, and pushing trolleys with with owls! The twins looked at each other smiling, and pushed their trolleys towards the family.
The woman looked between them a few times, nodded and explained what they had to do. In a few moments the twins were standing on Platform 9 ¾. It was real. There was the scarlet train Hagrid had mentioned, and there were so many people running around on the platform, parents saying goodbye to their children, loads of owls, toads and cats. The twins walked over and, with help from two of the red haired boys they had seen earlier, found their luggage stored securely in an empty compartment.
“Thanks,” Harry said, wiping the hair from his face.
“You’re – you’re… H-Harry Potter?” one of them said. Anna looked between her brother and the boy. Harry nodded. The two boys, twins themselves, exchanged looks, then glanced at Anna.
“We’re Fred and George,” they introduced, “Twins as well.”
Anna smiled and said, “I’m Anna.” They were being friendly. She almost looked around to see where Dudley was hiding, but he wasn’t there. No one was there to tell these boys not to be friends with them.
Anna and Harry sat in their own compartment as the train began its journey, when another red haired boy, Ron, joined them and introduced himself to them. They started talking and introduced themselves. Ron told them all about the four houses of Hogwarts; “My whole family have been in Gryffindor and I don’t know what I’ll do if I’m not in it. In Ravenclaw you have the smart people, Slytherin is the dark wizards, and Hufflepuff is… Well, I think it’s for the people who don’t get into the other houses,” Ron replied, looking confused. It was his first year too, so he didn’t know what to expect. They thought they might like to be in Gryffindor, because they wanted to stay with Ron. He genuinely seemed to want to be friends with them.
It was such good fun on the train. The twins had finally been able to buy their own food, eat as many sweets as they wanted without them being scoffed by their fat cousin, and they had been able to share with their friend. +++
Once the train had arrived, the first years joined Hagrid across to Hogwarts. It didn’t matter if the first years were pureblood, half-blood or muggle born – every eye watched the castle with awe. It was beautiful, and it was their first sight of Hogwarts. They were ushered into The Great Hall, and Anna felt her stomach contract in nervous excitement. There were so many people, and hundreds of candles floated in the sky. Incredible. Professor McGonagall had them all gather around a very old hat; “ the Sorting hat, which will sort you into one of the four houses…” she explained.
The list went down and down.
“ Potter, Anna” read Professor McGonagall. The hall went silent, but Anna took no notice. As she walked up to the stall to sit down, she watched the staff sitting at the table. They were all watching her eagerly. She sat down and the hat went on, falling over her face. It smelt like mothballs. For the first time in a week she felt at peace, like she had been left to her thoughts at the end of a good day. It seemed like forever. She was scared the hat had broken, was there something wrong with her? She felt the hat thinking, but inside her head. It was going through all the houses, and she pictured herself in all the different coloured robes. It finally narrowed down to two houses. “ But where to put you…” she heard in her mind.

| Sassenach | RAVENPUFF | Sing me a song of a lass that is gone | bookDRAGON | #awkwardturtle<# Chapter Three: First Years Part II “SLYTHERIN” the hat yelled out.
She smiled to herself, relieved to find she did have a place. She wasn’t going to be sent home. They weren’t going to tell her she didn’t belong. No, she DID belong here. She felt the hat being pulled from her face and her glance was met with a very stern and concerned look on Professor McGonagall’s face. Anna’s smile faded. She was just glad she had been sorted into a house, but now she wasn’t so sure. “What?” she asked quietly, her almond shaped eyes alert with worry.
Professor McGonagall braved a small wiry smile as she said “Nothing Miss Potter. You may join your house at the Slytherin table.”
Anna slid into the Slytherin table next to another first year boy, and listened as Professor McGonagall proceeded to call the next name. “Potter, Harry” she said, looking just as concerned as Anna felt.
The hat was on Harry for quite some time too. Anna really wanted Harry to be in her house. He was her twin, why would they be separated? We’re different people, though, there’s no reason to keep us together. “GRYFFINDOR” it yelled. Anna’s stomach dropped.
Harry hopped off the stall and looked over at Anna. Professor McGonagall pointed him in the direction of the Gryffindor table, and he went to sit with his new house. Ron was also sorted into Gryffindor. Anna sat at the Slytherin table, not knowing anyone and feeling quite nervous. She had never had to make friends with anyone before – no one ever wanted to be her friend.
However, everyone in Anna’s house wanted to talk to her. She quickly made friends with those surrounding her, mostly first years. She looked to her right and started talking to the boy next to her.
