A Marauder Named James
By Jessiqua

I do not own any of the Harry Potter world, that belongs to the incredible JK Rowling. The Banner was made by me. I hope whoever reads this enjoys it - and please do comment! If there are any similar stories I apologise. This story is based on my own thoughts about James.

SPOILER!!: ABOUT/CHAPTERS
This story is about a Marauder named James. I've always been curious as to what his life after Hogwarts (and sort of in Hogwarts) was like, so I'm going to write about it! I think it might just progress through his life from birth to death, but I might change the time line. I also may not stick to Jo's story line, so if facts don't match up - it's intentional.

Chapter One: Meet Prongs
Chapter Two: Meeting a Dog, Werewolf and... a RAT
Chapter Three: Meeting Fellow Gryffindors
Chapter Four: Meeting Snivellus

Meet Prongs: Chapter One

27 March, 1960

Mr. and Mrs. Potter were proud to announce the safe arrival of their son, named James Potter. They were only now starting a family, at 40, but they were only ready now. They held him in their arms, Mrs. Potter red and sweaty from the labour, and Mr. Potter red eyed from tears of joy. They smiled at the cameras getting their photo taken.

Little James squirmed in his mothers arms, and started crying. Mrs. Potter, having read many books and been to many birthing classes, knew what this cry was. He was hungry! She gave him a feed, and burped him and then rocked him to sleep. Mr. Potter took him from her and held him for hours. He was so proud to have a son, another Gryffindor like him he hoped. Although if he was in Slytherin like his mother, that would be okay. He looked up and saw Mrs. Potter was sleeping, so he put James in his crib and sat back down. The nurses had given him a pillow and blanket, apologising they didn't have a spare bed, to sleep with. It was uncomfortable, but he did not care. He had his wife and his son.

28 March, 1960

Mid-afternoon, when James was one day old, the proud parents were discharged and they were driven home in a Wizard Cab. They settled the sleeping baby in his nursery and watched him. He was such a beautiful baby, with dark eyes and black hair which, despite them smoothing it over was very messy. Already he had them wrapped around his little finger. Mr. and Mrs. Potter vowed to cherish their son and give him the best life they could. They would bring him up in a wizarding family, where he would be free to be himself, and they would be kind to all of his friends. They would buy him things when he needed them, and buy things for him even when he didn't. Little James Potter slept, being watched by his loving parents.

27 March, 1971

There was a light knocking at James' bedroom door. Today was his eleventh birthday! He knew what that meant. Apart from the piles of presents his parents always gave him, and the day full of his favourite foods, he was going to get his Hogwarts letter. There was not a strand of doubt that he wouldn't get the letter. Once when he was 5 he might have had a brief thought, but that was before he had accidentally started a food fight on his sixth birthday. He didn't even touch the food, but it was thrown by him. His parents were too happy to be angry - their son had shown his first sign of magic.

He groaned as he woke up and stretched. Sitting up in bed, he put his slippers and dressing gown on and opened the door. The breath was knocked out of him as his parents embraced him in such a tight sandwich, kissing him on his cheeks and forehead.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!!!" They yelled, slipping a party hat onto the middle of his messy black hair. It was getting long now, he could almost reach it with his tongue.
"Thanks," he said. "Has it come yet?" he asked.
They shrugged, but the look on their faces told him it was here. His face lit up and he ran out his bedroom and down the stairs, taking 4 at once. There, on the table in his usual spot was an envelope, addressed to Mr. James Potter. He didn't even look at anything else, but ripped it open. His acceptance letter into Hogwarts. He screamed, and jumped up and down. The cat screeched as he jumped on her tail accidentally, and he bent down to offer her a treat. "Sorry Tootsie," he said scratching her behind her ears. She started purring and he knew he had been forgiven.
His parents came in to the room then, both slightly greying. They told him to sit down, and put plates of food on the table for them to dig into. He scoffed down 4 eggs on toast, 8 rashers of bacon, 3 glasses of pumpkin juice and a mug of hot tea. His mother and father started giving him his presents, and after about an hour of unwrapping them he came to the last one. As soon as he saw the packaging he knew what it was. "OH YOU GOT IT!!" he yelled happily, ripping open the paper. It was a broomstick - the best one out! A Nimbus 71. He ran outside, his parents at his heels, and mounted it, kicked off and flew up into the sky.

Meeting a Dog, Werewolf and... a RAT: Chapter Two

31 August, 1971

"Mum, everything is packed! You don't need to go through it. Again!" James almost yelled at his mother, who was now unpacking his trunk for the seventh time since packing it that morning. She had her own list that she had made up, including what was required as well as what she thought might be useful - which was an awful lot. But no matter how much he begged, she refused to take anything out.
"No James, I just have a feeling I have forgotten something," she said impatiently, waving him to get out of the room. HIS room! The nerve of her.
He rolled his eyes and walked down the stairs to raid the fridge. He saw tonight's dessert for his going away dinner - chocolate pudding. He shrugged, taking the bowl out of the fridge. He set it on the counter and got a spoon, then started eating it.
"JAMES WHAT IN MERLIN'S TOILET ARE YOU DOING?" his mother screeched at him.
He had been busy daydreaming about what Hogwarts might be like that he didn't even notice he had eaten half of the pudding, or that his mother had been walking down the stairs. He looked at her confused, mouth full of pudding, for a moment before realising what he had been doing. He was planning on mooshing it all down so it just looked like it had shrunk, not that half of it had been eaten. But it was too late now.
He quickly put it back in the fridge and said, "I don't know what you're talking about." He ducked out of her way as she tried to swipe him, then quickly ran up the stairs.

A few hours later his father knocked at his door.
"What?" asked James.
"It's me, dinner is ready - please come down, son," his father said through the door.
James pulled himself off the bed and followed, looking amazed at the table. It was FULL of his favourite dinners.
"Gee mum, how will I fit all this in?" he asked. "I can't take it all to Hogwarts, I mean... I'm only going to be away for just under a year," he said sarcastically, then smiled. He ran his hands through his hair, making it stick up in even more places.
"James I do wish you would let me cut that hair," his mother pleaded.
"NO!" he said, then sat down.
His dad loaded his plate up with everything, and James ate it all - then went back for seconds. And thirds. His mum and dad had got him a going away present, along with everything else they had got him for his new year. He opened it and saw that it was a cloak. He took it out, and it fell like water on his lap. "What's thi-" he started, but as he looked down at his legs, he... well he couldn't see them!
"It's an invisibility cloak," his father had replied. "Your grandfather handed it down to be just before I left to go to Hogwarts, and now I'm handing it down to you. Maybe you can hand it down to your son one day," he said.
James widened his eyes - "A son? ME? Yeah right dad!"
"It's only for when you want a little privacy," his mother said, giving him the eye. James knew that she had fought with his father for weeks, going on about "He will use it to get into trouble!" and only now had he realised what she was going on about. He smiled to himself, knowing full well that she was right. He would use it to get into trouble - or more escape trouble.
"Thanks, really, it's great," he said, still in amazement. He wrapped it around his neck, and ate dessert with just a hand and a head visible. His mother didn't like it, which made it that bit more fun for him.

1 September, 1971

At 6.00 in the morning, James was woken up by banging on his door. He was so startled that he fell out of bed.
"JAMES GET UP!" his mother was yelling through the now open door. "We will be late!"
"LATE?" he yelled. "Mum, it's 6.00 in the morning. I've been packed since yesterday, my clothes are out for today, there is nothing I need to do before we go!"
"Yes but we need to get organised, showers, dressed, breakfast, I need to pack your lunch..." she had turned around to walk to her room and James could still hear her muttering to herself. He got back into bed and slept until 9.00, a much more reasonable time. He put his clean clothes on, a black woolen jumper and a grey collar shirt, with black trousers and black shoes. He put his glasses on, and went to eat breakfast.

They were just about to walk out the door when Mrs. Potter started combing his hair with a wet comb. It dripped down the back of his shirt, and he jumped up in shock, "What the heck are you trying to do to me?" he said.
"Your hair James, it's terrible!" she said.
He looked in the mirror just by the door. "Oh you're right," he said, then ran his hands through it, messing it up even more. "That's better," he said, walking out the door.

"BYE MUM!! BYE DAD!!!" he screamed from the window in the middle of the Hogwarts Express. He was in a compartment with another boy who looked very grumpy. He wasn't waving to his parents and was sitting with his arms crossed. His mum was crying, and his dad's mouth was trembling. He laughed as the train drove out of the station, and off on its journey.
He sat down for a few minutes, feeling uncomfortable in the silence.
"So... I'm James," he said.
The boy looked up at him frowning, but soon cleared his face when he looked out the window to see trees. "I'm Sirius," he said.
James smiled as he looked at Sirius' hair because it was just as messy as his.
"First year?" James asked, knowing he was.
"Yep! You?" he asked.
"Yeah."

When the trolley came, the boys both got some Chocolate Frogs and a few Pumpkin pasties. That seemed to break the tension, because they were both now sitting on the ground scoffing down the chocolate and comparing cards.
"My stupid brother keeps stealing mine," Sirius said annoyed.
"Oh you have a brother? I have no siblings," James said.
Sirius looked up at him, pausing, "No siblings? None?" he said.
James shrugged, "Nope. Why?"
"Siblings are horrible. You can have my brother if you like? Filthy pure blood, like the rest of them. Only care about one thing."
"What's that?"
"Keeping muggles out of our world, including muggle born people," he said sadly.
"You don't think the same?"
Sirius eyed James off, "Of course I don't!"
After a moment of just staring at each other with suspicious eyes, they both resumed to talk about cards. "Well I guess I'm lucky that I have nobody to share the chocolate or the cards with," James said.
"Yeah, you got that right. Who are you?" he demanded of the boy standing behind James. He had just walked into their compartment and was looking around curiously. Another boy joined him, but this one didn't look so annoyingly curious. Like a rat.
"P-P-Peter. This-" he started, getting all flustered.
"I'm Remus," the other boy said. "Can we come in? Most of the other compartments are completely full," he said, looking very... distracted? Worried?
"Yeah, 'course," James said.
Remus came in and sat on the chair, looking down at their piles of cards. Peter just stood frozen where he was, staring at Sirius.
"You're a Black, aren't you?" he asked, and James looked up. He was quite worried about how Peter was looking at Sirius - almost like he wanted to climb into his lap for a cuddle.
"Why?" Sirius asked.
"I-I-My... My mother know-ws your mo-mother. And I've m-m-met Regulus b-before. You l-look like him," he said as if it were a compliment. James had the feeling it wa definitely not a compliment, and his feelings were confirmed.
"I LOOK LIKE HIM? He is the one that looks like ME," Sirius said angrily.
Okay, so obviously he was a Black, James thought. He had heard of the Black family, and he was sure Sirius would have heard of him. All the pure-blood families have heard of each other.
"Oh-" was all Peter could say. He looked deeply upset that he had been yelled at by Sirius. James turned back around and gave Sirius a look, implying 'What's the deal with him'.
"I've heard about the Black family too," James said.
"Oh yeah - what family do you belong in?" he asked.
"I'm a Potter," he said.
"Potter.... yes, YES! Your mother is she.. uh Dorothy?" he asked.
"No, her name is Dorea," he said. "Why? How do you know?"
"Oh there is a tapestry at my house - the entire Black family tree. Did you know your mother is on it? And... well, and you too, and your father," he said. James considered this for a moment. Sure it made sense, as most Pure Blood families were somewhat distantly related to each other in some way.
"Oh awesome!" said James. "I think she may have mentioned it but I don't remember. I'll have to send her an OWL and tell her I've met my..." he tried to think of what Sirius would be to him, but couldn't... "Cousin or something," he said.
"And what about you two?" Sirius said, eyeing the two others.
"I'm Remus Lupin. Mum is muggle born and dad is half," he said.
"Oh," Sirius said. "Sorry you're not on my tapestry. But I guess... good to meet you?" He held out his hand and the two shook hands.
"And you?" he asked Peter.
"M-m-my parents are both half blood," he said.
"Not on my tapestry," Sirius said, somewhat relieved.

Whilst Peter refused to move any closer to Sirius, the other three spent the rest of the train ride talking about Hogwarts.
"I want to be in Gryffindor, like my dad and his family," James said.
"I want to be in anything BUT Slytherin, unlike the rest of my family," Sirius said angrily. James hoped he wasn't in Slytherin, because he was sure if he was he would probably be at the Train stop immediately after wanting to go home.
"I don't mind," Remus said.
"I-Gryf-f-findor," Peter said.

They all quickly changed into their robes as they felt the train coming to a stop. They got off the train and together walked to meet the half Giant who introduced himself as "Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of Keys and Grounds of Hogwarts. Now, follow me into these boats and they will take you up to the Castle. Four to a boat," he said, and ushered them to the River. James, Sirius and Remus quickly jumped in one boat, followed by the incredibly slow Peter. None of them spoke the entire way to the castle, for they were all amazed at the sight of the Castle.

MEETING FELLOW GRYFFINDORS: Chapter Three

1 September 1971

James, Sirius, Remus and Peter got out of the small boat. It was challenging, getting out, because Sirius had decided to rock it. Peter slipped and fell into the lake, which made him and James roar with laughter, causing the boat to rock even more. Sirius fell backwards out of the boat, and James kept laughing.
Rubeus Hagrid cleared his throat loudly in front of their boat, and James turned to see a crowd of fellow first years looking. One particular red head girl, and oily dark haired boy were frowning, with their arms crossed. Rubeus Hagrid reached into the lake and pulled put Peter who was struggling, and held out his hand for Sirius to hold. He pulled them both out of the water. Peter was shivering and looking frightened, but Sirius shook his hair out like a dog and winked at the girls that gasped at being flicked with water.
"This way," Hagrid grunted, and they all followed him. James was trying not to laugh. He didn't want to make the red haired beauty angry at him. Why was she angry anyway? It wasn't like she had fallen in...

After waiting around, James finally got really scared he wouldn't be in the same house as Sirius. He didn't care about the other two, but he liked Sirius. He also wanted to be in the same house as the red haired girl... "Do you know who the red-head is?" he whispered to Remus. He knew Sirius would just make fun of him if he asked him.
"No," he replied. "Why don't you ask her?"
"Yeah, maybe later."

A stern looking witch led them in the Great Hall. It was stunning, there were four long tables, and stars in the roof. Wait? Stars in the roof? He frowned looking up at it. Was it really stars? Was there no roof? His thoughts were interrupted by Professor McGonagall who had started calling out a list of names.

"Black, Sirius," she said.
James watched him as he ran his hand through his long hair, and smiled at some of the girls he passed. He sat down, and after he shot a bad look towards the Slytherin table, the hat was dropped over his face.
"GRYFFINDOR," it yelled out, and James applauded. He was glad his friend wasn't in the house he least wanted to be in.
A few more people were called before "Evans, Lily," was called, and James' eye caught something red moving through the small crowd of first years. So, her name was Lily Evans? That was a nice name.
After a moment the hat called out "GRYFFINDOR," and James' heart jumped in his chest. His good friend, and the beautiful girl were in Gryffindor? Hopefully he would be in that house too.
"Lupin, Remus," called Professor McGonagall, and Remus moved up.
After another few moments the hat called "GRYFFINDOR," and Remus lept up and joined Sirius and Lily.
All his friends, so far, were Gryffindors.
A few more names were called, including "Pettigrew, Peter," who was, unfortunately, placed in Gryffindor.
"Potter, James," was finally called, and James made his way up to the stall, messing his hair up.
Hmmm, the house thought. "GRYFFINDOR," it yelled out, and James ran over to the table and sat down next to Sirius, and in front of... Lily.
"Hi there," he said to Lily. Lily smiled at him and turned back to watch her friend get sorted.
"Snape, Severus," called Professor McGonagall, and the oily prat walked up and took a seat. James begged in his mind for him to be put in any other house.
"SLYTHERIN," the hat yelled almost instantly. James let out a sigh of relief, but saw that Lily's lower lip trembled slightly.

After a few more people, and a few words from the Headmaster, the golden and silver plates in front of everyone on the tables turned into food. "WOW!" James said loudly, grabbing whatever he could. Lily, across from him, frowned, then giggled, as he got some sauce on his cheeks and nose.
"'oot?" James said, frowning. Why was she laughing at him?
She leant across the table, picked up his napkin, and wiped it off. There was a bit. James smiled at her, "'hanks," he said, then swallowed.
"So, I'm James," he said, holding his hand out.
"I'm Lily," she said, shaking his hand.
"So. Who is that wei-we.. other guy you were standing with earlier?" he asked.
"Oh, he is Severus. He lives near me," she said. "I'm sad he isn't in Gryffindor. He is the only person here I know."
"Oh well this is Sirius, and this is Remus, and that's Peter," he said, indicating to everyone, "So now you know 4 more people," he said.
She smiled sadly, "Yeah. Hi everyone," she said, and continued to eat her food.

They were all dismissed after an hour or so, and followed their Prefect up to the tower. When they were inside, Lily went straight up to the girls dormatories. James was pulled to theirs by Sirius. There was another boy in there too.
"Oh, hi! I'm Frank," he said smiling kindly at them. "Looks like we're all in here together." He jumped on to his bed, and rested his hands behind his head. "So who are all you lot?" he asked.
Sirius smiled, "Sirius," he said.
"I'm Remus."
"P-p-p-"OWW, Peter said.
"That's P-E-T-E-R," Sirius said, after elbowing him. "I think he's broken. He keeps doing that."
James laughed, "I'm James," he said, and took the bed next to Frank.

The five boys spent the rest of the night laughing and talking, and didn't go to sleep until well past 3.

Meeting Snivellus: Chapter Four

2 September 1971

The boys were all awoken early. Too early. James groaned loudly, and said some bad words. He didn't like waking up early. He, and the other boy, got out of bed, all half asleep, and got dressed to go down for breakfast. It wasn't until he entered the Great Hall that he realised what happens when you get dressed in the dark. His pants were undone, his shirt was on inside out and the buttons didn't match up. He had put on his robe upside down, and his shoes were on the wrong foot. Sirius, Frank and Peter weren't much better, but Remus looked neat and tidy. James just shrugged and sat down next to the other people at the table and started eating.

A few moments later Professor McGonagall came to find the first years to hand them their timetables.
"Oh Potions next!" James said happily.
"YAY! Potions with Slytherin," Lily said happily and the marauders looked up to see her running to class.

"I don't get it!" James said. Honestly, he was much better looking than that weird snivelly guy.
"Well obviously she thinks more of a grease-ball than you, mate," he said, smiling at his friend.
James rolled his eyes and stood up, suddenly not feeling like eating. The rest followed him as he made his way down to the dungeons where Potions was being taught. Outside, waiting, were Lily - the only one in Red and Gold, talking to the Slytherins.

"Hi Lily," James said, smiling at her.
She turned around and saw him and gave him a small smile. "Hello," she said. "Oh, Severus, this is James, Sirius, Peter and Remus. And Frank," she said.
Severus just looked at them all, and glared at James. His jaw turned up at one corner for just a second, before he turned back to talk to Lily. She looked so happy, and James was more puzzled.
"He is a greasy git. And look at that nose!! You could invade it," he said.
Sirius roared out laughing and said, "Snivellus!!" and the rest of the Gryffindor's laughed.

"Hello everyone!" said a Professor with a big stomach. He looked nice and happy, which they were all pleased about. They all realised that he was the Slytherin Head of House, so he would probably favour them. "Please come in, take a seat, and get your things out on the desk," he said, and walked in. James and Sirius sat in the table right behind Lily and Severus.
"Now, you will all notice a small label in front of you. Please take the next 20 minutes to put your name on it and decorate it however you would like. You will then make a Potion to pour over it to make it ceramic, and then we will affix a small pin to the back of it. This will be your name tag for you to wear to every Potions class," he said, and laughed. He took out his wand and waved it over the tables, and a big bucket of markers appeared.

By the end of the lesson, the boys had happily realised that just because he was the Slytherin Head of House, didn't mean he favoured them. Lily was clearly his favourite student, as she had finished her potion perfectly before everyone else. Most people had to use her potion as theirs was disastrous. Like Peter. But Severus was also gifted in Potions, which made their jaws clench together.

After lesson they all walked towards the History of Magic classroom. "Oi," they heard behind them, and turned around. It was Snivellus.
"What?" James asked.
"I want to talk with you," he said, in a tone that suggested James was to listen only.
"Fine. What?" he asked, as Sirius had appeared at his side.
"ALONE," Severus said.
"It's okay," James said, and Sirius left.
"Stay away from Lily," he said to James.
"WHY? How can I stay away from her when she is in my house?" he asked, getting angry.
"Just do it. I've known her much longer than you have and... and, I don't want you to influence her. She is a good person and she is my friend. You are neither of those things," Severus said.
"Like you know! And what about you? You're a big giant fat head who tells others what to do. I don't think she would like to know that you have been telling people to stay away from her. She didn't know anyone when she came here, she deserves to find friends in her own home," he said.
"I didn't say she couldn't find friends I just said for YOU to stay away from her. And she was the one who said she wanted you to go away. She doesn't like you," he said smiling.
"I don't believe you!" James said, narrowing his eyes. "Why don't I just bring her out here and ask her myself?" James asked, and turned away. But then he found himself dangling in mid-air. "Hey... WHAT?" he said, unable to turn around and see Severus with his wand up. "HEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP" he screamed, and before he knew it he was on the ground. He looked around but Severus wasn't there, and James yelled out a bad word.

He stood up, shaking with anger, and walked in to History of Magic. Everyone was looking at him. They must have heard him! He looked around and took a seat.
"The old batty hasn't even realised you're late!" Sirius said, indicating to Professor Binns.
James' eyes widened. It was a ghost!

Luna_Midnight 02-28-2012 01:14 AM

ooo loved it!
I guess we know why James turned Snape upside down...

RandomRaven 02-28-2012 01:27 AM

nice chapter, Jess!! ;)

Enigma 02-28-2012 10:46 AM

Nice chapter!!:D

I want more! PAMS

Jessiqua 02-28-2012 11:48 AM

 it's nice making up the pieces :D The only thing I'm having a conflict with at the moment is finishing it! I don't see it finishing for 10 years haha. I wanted to go through every year like I've been doing with the days, but that would take WAY too long, but there is so so much I want to do with it. So.... sorry if it's 10 years long :rotfl:

And thank you all so much for reading and commenting ^_^

We'll be the happiest if you do that! :D And please develop it as much as you can! We readers will always love it!
Having a background story on James and Lily and Marauders would be awesome:yes:

Shame that I can't seem to think of such ideas!!

Jessiqua 02-28-2012 11:18 PM

:loved: that's what I think! It's so good writing it too :P
You could do it for like... Snape or something? All the 1971 characters don't really have a strong background developed, so really the keyboard is your oyster

Enigma 02-28-2012 11:56 PM

Yeah.. I was thinking along those lines...:)

Planning to write a fanfic or at least attempt to write one! on SS.. but only after 3-4 months!
Yeah because they all don't really have much of a background, creativity is the best friend!

narnia_potter 02-29-2012 04:06 AM

Oooooohhh!! Hahaha
So funny and really quite adorable! Loved it and can't wait for more.

Meeting Santa Clause: Chapter Five
Part One: Christmas Eve

24 December, 1971

"So why aren't you going home Evans?" James asked Lily. It had been a while since the incident with James and Severus, but since then Lily had been angry at James. He didn't know why.
She looked up at him and said "Because I don't want to see my sister," she said.
James frowned. "Why don't you want to see your sister for Christmas?"
Lily went red and her nostrils flared, "That really isn't your concern," she said, and went up to the girls dormitories.

"I don't get it!" He said to Sirius. "She still believes Snivellus that I was the one who hexed him!"
"Well stuff her," Sirius replied.
"But I want to be with her," James said, flopping next to him in the chair by the fire.
"So why aren't You going home, James?" Remus asked.
"Er... well mother and father are just getting a bit sick, and they thought I'd have a better Christmas with my friends," he replied, having known the other boys in his dorms would be staying behind. "Why are you staying home?" he asked the rest of them.
"Well my parents are travelling," Remus said.
"I would rather spend Christmas down the loo," Sirius said, seriously.
"I... um.. my p-parents want-ted me to-to stay with my f-f-friends," Peter said.
"Oh I know Alice is staying behind, and thought I'd get to know her a bit more," Frank replied, smiling brightly.

They all went down to see everyone else off on the Hogwarts Express before going to eat their lunch in the Great Hall. James, Sirius, Remus, Peter, Frank, Alice and Marlene sat along the Gryffindor table, with students from the other years. Lily, on the other hand, walked in and went to the Slytherin table, where Severus was sitting alone.
"Obviously none of the Slytherins are staying behind," Sirius said, elbowing James.
"What! I don't believe she is sitting over THERE!" James hissed, "That pratty prat Snivelling Snivelus," he ranted, making his house mates laugh.
James hardly ate anything for lunch, and went back to the common room alone. He sat down in front of the fire and closed his eyes.

"Potter?" a gentle voice asked. "Potter?"
Something was poking James, and his eyes snapped open. "Oh," he said, sitting up in the chair, running his hand thorough his hair, "Hi Evans."
"Look, I'm sorry about everything. Remus actually told me the story, and I confronted Severus. He said that you were being really rude and that he was actually the one to hex you," she said, turning red. "I'm sorry I was angry at you. I just want you to understand that Severus is my best friend. He... he called me his friend when my ow-own sister called me a f-frea-k," she said, with a breaking voice.
This was the first time James had heard anything about her sister, calling her a freak? He was outraged, and she was so upset. Now he understood that she didn't want to go home because she didn't want to be with someone who thought she was a freak. At least staying at Hogwarts, she could be around people who understood her. Nobody at Hogwarts thought she was a freak.
"Oh Lily, I'm sorry. I didn't know... What do your parents think?" he asked.
"They are very proud of me. But not 'Tunia," she said, sitting down next to him.
"Severus told me to stay away from you," he said, wondering if she could explain it.
"Oh did he? Well he shouldn't have," she said. "I never told him to say that! He was probably just being protective, that's it," she said.
James just looked into the fire. Seriously, how could she still be friends with a lying snivelling prat like him? "Will you go for a walk with me tomorrow night?" he asked, looking back at her.
"Christmas night?" she asked, frowning, "What about dinner?"
"After dinner. I have a special cloak, we can hide under to go to the grounds. I just, I want to get to know you more, without everyone around," James said.
Lily smiled and said "Sure, Potter, I'd like that," then turned to look into the fire as well.

Enigma 03-08-2012 11:01 AM

Yayy! New chapter:)
And yayy! again! Finally Lily and James are friends again for now at least:D

Hehe.. why do they call each other Potter and Evans? And not James and Lily?
PAMS!

Jessiqua 03-08-2012 08:29 PM

I'm not really sure, they called each other those names in the 5th book and I've just continued on with it
I think in my story it's like their own little thing they have because everyone else uses their first names

Luna_Midnight 03-09-2012 04:36 AM

Nice Chapter :D
Yay, they are friends :D

RandomRaven 03-09-2012 06:20 AM

Nice chapter Jess ;)

PAMS!

Jessiqua 03-09-2012 07:25 AM

Thanks heaps :D I'm pretty glad I wrote it that way. I just couldn't imagine Lily irrationally hating James though the entire time at Hogwarts until 7th year. So I'm sure there will be something happening within the next few years that will make her 'dislike' him ;)

narnia_potter 03-11-2012 03:57 AM

Awwww! Cute!
Absolutely adorable... the two are pretty cute together.
Glad they worked it out and I can't wait to see how she reacts to the cloak ;)

Meeting Santa Clause: Chapter Five
Part Two: Night Time

24-25 December, 1971

The Christmas Feast was incredible! All the Professors were sitting at one long table, which felt good. There was no Professor Student separation, but they were all equals on Christmas. There were Eight Gryffindor Students, Three Hufflepuff students, and Four Ravenclaw students, and much to the Marauder's disgust, only one Snivelling Slytherin student. The food was delicious, and there was so much of it. The Marauders stuffed as much as they could into their mouths, having a suspicion that as soon as they blinked the Elves would take all their food away. Well, they weren't going to let that happen! As soon as a spot came free in their mouths, they would stuff it full again.

"Bunch of pigs," Marlene said to Alice, and they laughed. Even the Professors were finding the humour in it.
But all the boys could do was smile, and eat more.
And then dessert came.
"Mr. Potter and Mr. Black, do you have much room left?" Dumbledore said with a chuckle.
The boys rubbed their bellies and looked at each other. Well, they weren't about to have Feast without trying everything. By the end of the feast, they were so full and uncomfortable that it felt like their belly buttons would pop out. They all made their way back up to the common room. All but Lily.

"Where's your girlfriend?" Sirius asked.
"She's not my girlfriend yet, and... she's probably with Snivellus," James said in a revolted tone, then followed it up by pretending to be sick.
"Fudge Tree," they said, and they climbed into the tower.
"Oh, I'm so full," James said, lying down on the floor by the fire.
"Me too, move over," Sirius said, kicking his legs out of the way.

What seemed like a few hours later, James woke up. He was being poked. "Gerrof!" he mumbled, then turned over. It was hard. He opened his eyes and saw the fire in front of him, which scared him.
"Have a good nap?" Lily asked, laughing quietly.
"Err... yes, where is everyone?" he asked. Last he remembered, Sirius was right there next to him.
"They have all gone to bed, they tried waking you but you just kept thrashing around."
"Oh... what's the time?"
"Just after 2 in the morning," Lily said, "Are we still going for a walk?"
"Er.. yes, let me just get my cloak," he said, and ran up the stairs. Being careful not to wake anyone, he retrieved his cloak, changed his socks, and put on some warmer clothes. When he went back down, he saw Lily was all ready standing by the portrait, ready to open it.
"No, don't open it until we're in the cloak," James said.
"Why?"
"Because if the Fat Lady sees us, she could tell Filch. And then we would be in trouble."
Lily laughed, "You? Scared about getting into trouble? I thought you were brave," she said.
"I am not scared about getting into trouble, I just don't want YOU to get in trouble. And besides, Sirius and I swear we saw chains and whips in Filch's cupboard once," he said, shuddering. He had the distinct feeling Filch showed them 'accidentally' just to scare them.
Lily had a look of disgust on her face, "What? For chaining people up?"
"I assume so, he didn't say anything. Pretended he didn't notice us seeing them."
Lily shrugged and opened the door, running out.

"Lily?" James whispered, throwing the cloak over himself. What was she doing? he ran off after her, trying to find her, at the same time as keeping himself hidden. "Lily?" he whispered, then stopped dead. She was squatting down in front of him patting a cat. OH NO! "LILY! Get away, that's Mrs. Norris, Filch's cat, come here!"
"Well, well, well... look at this," James heard. His heart sank. It was Filch. Lily was going to be in trouble.

Meeting Santa Clause: Chapter Five
Part Three: Getting Away?

24-25 December, 1971

James watched through his cloak. It was awful! Lily was looking around, scared. Was she looking for him or was she looking to see where Filch was? Had she even had the misfortune of meeting him before? All that James knew was that he couldn't let Filch see him otherwise he would probably be expelled. He tried to step closer to Lily but heard an unbelievably unpleasant screech from Mrs. Norris.

"Oh hell," he muttered quietly. He looked up in terror, hoping nobody had heard him, but it didn't appear as though they had. He was watching Lily pant in fear.

"Well who do we have here?" James heard. It was his most disliked voice on EARTH!
"I..." Lily stuttered, but couldn't get the words out. Her mouth was open and moving as if she were talking, but no words were coming out.
Oh no, thought James.
"Student out of bed!" Filch said, "Well well, it does look like Christmas my love," he drawled.
YUCK! James thought. Was he saying that about Lily or the Cat? Either way it was gross.
"Come with me, you, Oh yes we are in trouble," he said.
James couldn't keep looking at Lily's face. It was falling in horror and he was sure she was about to start crying. Wasn't that what all girls did?
Filch grabbed her around the wrist and pulled her off in the direction he knew so well as his office. James stood there staring after her for a while. He heard Filch asking who else was with her, but she kept saying "Nobody, nobody, I was alone," and James felt even worse. But.... if he DID jump out and tell Filch it was him, then Lily would get in trouble. He turned around and ran back up to the common room. When he entered the boys dormitories he woke Sirius up.
"Oi Potter, bugger off I'm getting my beauty sleep," Sirius said, whacking James on the shoulder.
"FILCH HAS LILY!" he yelled, loud enough to wake up the rest of the boys.
"WHAT? James how could you let him take her?" Remus said, getting out of bed. He put his slippers and gown on and paced. What to do?
Peter kept sleeping, the big sloth.

"What were you doing?" Frank asked, getting up to give James a mock punch.
"We were planning on going for a walk in the grounds! I was going to tell her what I thought of her but she didn't realise how many rules we were breaking. She just ran out of the common room without getting under the cloak. I think she thought she was being a rebel or something but Mrs. Norris was there, and then Lily started patting her," he said.
"SHE WHAT? Why didn't she kick it?" Sirius interrupted.
"And then Filch came and I didn't have time to sneak her under the cloak and run back up. I had to stand there and watch her lie to save me and... Oh, James heard the portrait door open and close. "Must be her," he said, and threw the invisibility cloak on his bed. He almost flew down the stairs.

Lily had been crying, that much was obvious. She was also holding a red piece of paper in her hand.
"Oh Lily I'm so sorry," James said, giving her a hug.
"Bugger off Potter, you didn't even try and save me!" Lily said, still sobbing.
"Lily if he had known I was there after you told him you were alone... well do you know how much trouble you would get? He knows he can give liars more punishment! I didn't want that to happen to you," he explained. He was being honest too.
"Potter I just don't think we can be friends. I need to be good, and you make me into a bad person."
"Oh come on Evans, I don't mean to. I did want us to have a fun day but... well you ran off!"
"I ran off because I wanted you to catch me, not because I wanted to be CAUGHT by Filch," she yelled.
"I'm sorry Lily, I just didn't have time to catch up with you, and... if I did take it off and show Filch I was there he would expel me. He told me if I got any more detentions I would get expelled!
"I don't care Potter, do whatever you like but DON'T involve me in it," she said, turned around and walked up to her bed.

"Sorry mate," Sirius said when he came back up to the boys dormitories and got into bed.
"Thanks.. it will all blow over he said," doubting it as soon as it exited his mouth.

Luna_Midnight 05-08-2012 02:57 AM

Oh poor James, but he could have done something...
loves Sirius and Frank's reactions!
and Lily's reaction, aw made my day!

Jessiqua 05-08-2012 03:05 AM

Hehe :D
Yeah he was a bit naughty! But it means he has a lot of growing up to do :P

narnia_potter 05-10-2012 02:34 AM

Awww, cute! Poor James. And poor Lily. I understand both sides... but I do think he should have stuck up for her. But, then again, he's an 11 or 12 year old boy... that much cannot be expected (even of an 18 year old boy ;) )
-Rachel :)
