Equally as important as the ice cream flavour one chooses is the toppings that one puts upon it. A good topping or two can make or break a personal sundae, so once you've picked your flavour, the toppings bar is the next logical stop on the road to ice cream nirvana! The setup is rather impressive and can seem intimidating at first, but don't fret. This magical machine is easy enough to operate, given a moment and some patience.
A series of medium-sized glass tubes containing any topping one could dream of (and some nobody would dare to) hover precariously over a long, shiny tray that is inset into the countertop. At any given time this tray can be found with any myriad of missed toppings mixed together inside of it; the more adventurous customers sometimes choose to pick up the small scooper that can be found at its edge and scoop their toppings from those that did not land on someone else's ice cream.
If you'd prefer to make your own choices, however, merely say your decided-upon topping or toppings to the machine, and it will release a small amount of it into the corkscrew spun glass chutes. Watch carefully and make sure to position your ice cream in the right place, because all of the chutes merge together into one to drop your tasting ice cream additives onto your bowl or cone.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

He could make a suggestion? A playful grin appeared on Wú Xié's face as he looked at the ice cream in the girl's hand. It seemed she had chosen a chocolate flavor. "Ok then lets see..." he trailed off as he checked the different kinds of toppings. Now that he saw how many there were it was no wonder that she had difficulty choosing. He stopped before he could finish his sentence and looked up to look at his mother as her hand had landed on his shoulder as a kind of warning. He knew that face. "Do you go to Hogwarts?" he asked as he licked his own ice cream.

"OH! get those rainbow sprinkles!"
Abra was just about to take this boy seriously when he started talking about mustard and ketchup. She narrowed her eyes at him just as his mother, she assumed, placed a hand on his shoulder. She felt a bit sad seeing he had his mother there with him. Abra only had her auntie, and she wasn't even here. She had to take care of things at the Leaky Cauldron.
Hm, strawberry. Now that was a good suggestion. "I like strawberries," she said quietly, and scooped some onto her ice cream. "I'm just going to start this year. Are you?" she asked, somewhat hopeful. She wanted to know at least one person before starting.
His sudden outburst of rainbow sparkles let out a crack of a smile. "Okay, rainbow sparkles and strawberries it is." She turned back to sprinkle some on, and took a small lick of the ice cream, with both toppings. "What are you putting on yours?"

Ilya was caught up in his head making up the craziest ice cream flavor when he was cut off by a voice. "Hm?" He turned to look at the girl's scoop. His blonde eyebrows raised with amusement at how delicious the gummy bears look sprawled on the chocolate ice cream. "I know, I agree. I've tried them before. But look," He pointed at a newly installed nozzle. "I think I feel daring enough to try it." He puffed out his chest a bit and embraced a wide smile.
He did not move though, he waited to see if encouragement was coming at him from the girl. He was brave and all, but what if she knew for sure that this was snot flavor??? Like the time with the bertie bott beans. Ekh.

Flavour selection came naturally to her today so it was in no time that Rachel Watson chose before moving on to the toppings bar. Dark brown eyes scanned all the toppings and she immediately felt hopeless. Goodness! There were always so many toppings to choose from! Did the parlour put out more than normal today? Should she choose gummy bears or gummy worms? Chocolate sauce? Strawberry sauce? Peanut butter cups?
Why were the possibilities so endless?
By now, the woman was leaning towards something sugary. As a young girl/teenager, sugar rarely appealed to her. But as she grew older, this changed as did she. Gone was the girl who loved to wear dresses and who kept her hair long. Now it was mainly jeans, tops, a pair of pretty boots and very short hair.
A few things that had not changed? Her love for Herbology and the colour pink.

So…
Peanut butter cups then?
Hmm...
David had very plain tastes in ice cream, but could be tempted to indulge in toppings and mix-ins. He normally would have spent his free time at the Leaky Cauldron, but it had looked crowded when he'd passed it earlier. And he was avoiding home at the moment, so ice cream was what he had to have.
He wandered over to the toppings bar behind whoever was in front of him in line, eying the peanut butter cups also. But he could be patient. He could wait for the woman to choose first. What was the harm in his vanilla bean ice cream melting? There was no harm in that. He would probably rather wait for it to turn into soup before he would ask the lady to hurry up and make her selections.
He did, however, very softly clear his throat, as though to nudge her along.

Yes, go for the peanut butter cups, David mentally encouraged the woman. Just pick something! He tried to smile gently at her, but he knew he could look not-so-kind when he was getting hangry and impatient. At least she had the decency to apologize, unlike some people.
"It's fine," he waved away her apology, helping himself to the same toppings she had chosen, as though all the time he'd spent watching her had subconsciously influenced him. "None are better than these though." He scooped up a peanut butter cup on his own ice cream to show her. Mhmmmm.
No, David didn't recognize her either, though he did note that they were about the same age, and that she had a lovely haircut that suited her pleasant face. Nothing she'd said so far had lit the lightbulb in his head though.

Thankfully, the young man accepted her apology. Not like some who would probably have glared at her and without even acknowledging said apology. What was even more nice was that he too had chosen peanut butter cups. Rachel grinned, flashing her neat white teeth. “I will agree with you on that. These and gummy worms have been the toppings I’ve enjoyed the most since I was at Hogwarts.’’
It was true.
In her latter years at Hogwarts, her sixth to be precise, the woman had developed an obsession a strong liking for the two. “Well, I’m sorry once again for holding you up. I’ll leave you to finish up your selection.’’

"Hogwarts?" Davie repeated, savoring the spoonful that he put in his mouth. Delicious. Perfect. It didn't need a thing more. He considered her mention of gummy worms, but they were a separate candy, in his mind. Not something to mix with ice cream.
"What house were you in at Hogwarts?" Never mind that she seemed to be trying to get away from him. "You look familiar..." Was this yet another classmate of sorts that he was running into in Diagon Alley??! What were the chances.

At this point in life, Rachel was more interested in plucking the peanut butter cup pieces from her ice cream than actually consuming the frozen treat. But if that was going to be the case, she was going to have a pile of gooey-sticky mess on her hands. Literally. So, using the spoon, Rachel began to stir in the pieces, all the while looking avidly at the man opposite to her.
“Ravenclaw.’’ A light frown creased her forehead. “I do? Well, my name’s Rachel Bayless. But I was Rachel Watson back then.’’ If anything, a name should help jog this fella’s memory because Rachel was coming up at a thick brick wall of a loss as to who he was. His features did not look one bit familiar to her.

David also stirred his ice cream to combine it, wondering if he was copying this woman or if she was copying him...? Not that it mattered, really. "Oh, I was in Ravenclaw too," Davie replied, his brow furrowing as he heard her name.
Rachel?
Rachel?!
That little girl with the doll on the train?
"Rachel!" David repeated the name with a grin. "I remember you." He gestured to himself with his spoon. "David, David Truebridge. We did go to school together." It felt like a century ago, but it was true. This WAS another classmate of his. Look at that. He still had an awesome memory. Davie took another bite of ice cream with a smile.

Having a June birthday meant that Moira was deprived of having an ice cream sundae ON her actual birthday. Of course the long-blond haired girl was grateful to be surrounded by friends, but was it really so great when ninety percent of Hogwarts was so high anxiety ridden by the time June rolled around and not in the mood for any sort of celebrations, unless it meant being out of school early.
Wearing a super cute dress to celebrate her thirteenth birthday, the lioness made her way over to the toppings bar to peruse her choices and decide what she wanted. Obviously nothing that would be at risk to get her outfit all dirty. So no hot fudge or caramel.

He was copying her. Yes, he was. Rachel thought of it but didn’t think that deep of it for it was normal for ice cream eaters to stir their toppings in. But there were more important things to think about. If it was that this fella attended Hogwarts around the time she did, then they would know each other. Especially as he had been a Ravenclaw too.
Judging by his reaction, he DID remember her, which was great. But who was HE? Rachel blinked, abandoning all thought of ice cream and peanut butter cups. “DAVIE?!” No way! That nerdy teenager had grown up into this hunk before her? She wouldn’t have guessed in a million years that it was him had she not been told. Rachel excitedly threw her ice cream free hand around his shoulder briefly. “What have you been up to all this time?”

Yeah, Davie, his old nickname. Davie grinned a bit more and hugged Rachel back, gently, just with a few pat-pats. He wasn't really a hugger, but it was nice to be greeted by a beautiful old friend.
"Ah, you know, this and that," he replied vaguely, stirring his ice cream some more. "Went to uni, did all that." Not a huge surprise there for this nerdy Ravenclaw, though he was still looking for the right path these few years after graduation. "What about you?" What had she been up to? Was she--- er, was that a ring on her finger? She was MARRIED? Merlin, he was getting old.

Okay so Diagon Alley was really cool. The boy had become quite the fan of it when he learned that this place had a playground and an ice cream parlor. Sheesh. He was a child at heart still - even though he'd NEVER admit it.
With ice cream in hand, Noah made his way over to the toppings bar. Hmm.. Now what to put on his ice cream? He eyed the options and then looked at his ice cream. What would compliment the ice cream well? Was he in a sour or sweet mood? Chocolate or caramel? Sort of healthy or not?
Decisions were difficult, man.
Regardless, he'd have to make his decision fairly quickly before the ice cream melted.

Kimberly decided to start her first solo Diagon Alley shopping trip in pretty much the only spot that was actually familiar to her. Her family always did their school shopping trips in Diagon Alley, even though they were students at Ilvermony and not Hogwarts, and they always started at Florean's to satisfy her dad's sweet tooth. Not to mention Florean's was always the birthday destination for all 5 of the Amstern children.
This was the first time though being she was here as a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The whole idea was really exciting and she couldn't wait to start the upcoming term. Which was a weird thing to consider, since it still is school.
Kimmie approached the toppings bar with her vanilla cup in hand and waited behind another student who was eyeing the array before them. "The popping boba is always yummy, or you can't go wrong with good old chocolate." Or you could, if you were allergic.

Boba or …?
Why WAS this decision SO difficult? He glanced back at his ice cream – surely it would just turn into a heap of milk shortly if he couldn’t decide on some toppings. How pathetic, he thought, shaking his head. However, before he could give himself a proper internal scolding for his indecisiveness, another student was speaking. Huh? Was she… She certainly was speaking to him and she had a recommendation. He glanced behind him to find a girl who looked around his age suggesting popping boba or chocolate. Solid choices indeed. He nodded. “Boba is always a good choice but I’ve never had it with ice cream..” He paused, pursed his lips, and then shrugged his shoulders. “Could be an unexpectedly good combination… I think I’ll try it and add chocolate –thank you!” He had only really had boba in thai ice tea that he would get at the restaurant a street over from his home. It was his family’s go to take out destination- good spicy authentic Thai food. He was getting hungry just thinking about it now. Then he realized that he may have been inconveniencing this poor girl and be a factor that would cause her ice cream to melt!
“Here go ahead of me. I’m sorry if I kept you waiting,” he admitted, running a free hand through his hair. A nervous, awkward tick of his. He chuckled and stepped to the side to let her go ahead. “Don’t want your ice cream to melt,” he said, offering her a small smile. “What are you getting?”

Kimmie smiled at the boy when he turned to look at her as she spoke giving a small nod at his thanks. "No problem! Boba is one of my favorites, drinks and ice cream so I'm always more than happy to suggest it." Even though her opinion was not asked, Kimmie was always more than willing to share it. Probably why she didn't have a lot of friends at school. But, oh well. "I apologize in advance if it's not really to your liking." Because she would feel a little bad if she just ruined his dessert.
Her smile grew slightly when he moved to let her go through, and she gave a small nod in his direction to emphasis her thanks. "Thank you! No inconvenience at all though." Her ice cream wasn't at risk at all. Stepping forward and putting her bowl out under the glass shoots, she named off her boba and fruit choices while it dumped into her bowl. "Just fruit and boba on boring vanilla for me. I don't tend to differentiate for my normal."
Moving out of the way again so that he had access to the bar, Kimmie balanced her ice cream in one hand before offering her other out in greeting. "I'm Kimberly Amstern. Are you a Hogwarts student?"

He smiled when she shared the fact that she loved Boba. It was nice to meet someone so warm and friendly. And he didn’t mind that she shared her opinion without him asking it. He chuckled when she apologized in advance to him. “That just means I’ll have to convince you to buy me another ice cream. Should I take your name down just in case?” he teased, giving her a wicked wink before regaining his normal sunny composure. “I’m kidding. You don’t need to buy me another ice cream if I don’t like it. I’m sure I will.” See? Making friends wasn’t difficult… right?
He watched her scoop her ingredients onto her ice cream. She was decisive. A skill which he wished he had. “Vanilla isn’t boring, y’know…” he offered. “It’s a classic. If anyone tells you; otherwise, then they just don’t understand the simplicity of it and vanilla’s ability to be mixed with a plethora of flavors.” Was that how you used that word? Errr… It sounded fine so he’d just roll with it. Yeah. It’s all good. He followed behind her, scooping up his own ingredients. He opted for boba, chocolate, banana, and strawberries.
Noah paused when she reached out and offered her hand in greeting. He took her hand. “Nice to meet you, Kimberly. Do you go by Kimberly or..?” he asked before realizing that he (a) hadn’t introduced himself yet and (b) didn’t answer her question. “I’m Noah Nam. Call me Noah. Fifth year transfer. I went to school at Ilvermorny beforehand but will be starting at Hogwarts this year. Do you go to Hogwarts?” He hoped so because he could use another familiar face that also liked boba.

Kimberly grinned at him as he winked and teased about purchasing another ice cream if she really had ruined his first. "Careful there, sir. Flirty sounded sentences can give a girl the wrong idea." Not that she minded, considering she really did love harmless flirting. She threw her own wink to show her teasing before giving another small chuckle. "And tell you what, if I really did ruin it the next ice cream is absolutely on me." Because that meant she'd have to see him later, and Kimmie would love to have friends.
Aahhh, yes! Someone understood the beauty of the basics as well. "Exactly! My family comes here so often I have a few staples, but my basis is always vanilla." Because they she could get crazy with the toppings. Her sister, Naia, would always go for the elaborate special offered and then pout that no toppings would be good with it.
Kim gave his hand a quick shake, as she answered his question clarifying her preference. "I usually go by Kimmie to friends." Because Kimberly was way too long and formal most of the time. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Noah." Wait - hold up, did he say he was also just transferring? Kim's mouth dropped open slightly before she gave a small bounce on her feet from excitement. "Me too! Well, except for the year. I'm transferring from Ilvermony this year as well! I was in Wampus. You?"

Flirty sentences? Ooh. Was that flirting? Err.. Did he want to flirt with her? She was really cute but would that be weird? Yes, that would be weird. Back track, Noah, back track.
“Oh… that’s true.. I was just being silly. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean… We barely know each other… You don’t expect me to start proposing to you now, do you?” he said making a joke of it before realizing that he was flirting. “I’m doing it again. I’m so sorry. I can’t help it… I’m awkward.” He paused, running a hand through his hair when she mentioned that the next ice cream was on her. “No, no, no. I could never live that down. My parents would force me to move out of the house if they heard I let a nice girl buy me ice cream.” He offered her a kind smile. He paused. She did look familiar. He couldn’t place where he knew her from.
He smiled when he listened to her speak about her family. “Do you have siblings?” he asked and then paused, wondering if that question was too friendly.
Noah nodded. Kimmie. “Is it alright if I call you Kimmie, Kimmie?” he asked rather nervously. He wasn’t sure what her reaction would be. Hopefully she’d be fine with it. Fingers crossed. If not…. Errr… well… He’d figure it out. He paused when she mentioned Ilvermorny. “THAT’S WHY YOU LOOKED FAMILIAR!” he exclaimed. “Ilvermorny. Wow. Sorry I should have said something sooner… I was a Pukwudge.”

Kimmie couldn't help the bubble of laughter that burst forth, and she quickly covered her mouth as she didn't want him to think she was laughing at him or being mean or anything of that sort. "No, no. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have teased you." But really, she had wanted to see if he would get at all flustered. And he did, and now she actually felt a bit bad. "You're not awkward, you're sweet. Don't worry about it." She moved her hand so she could smile widely at him.
She tilted her head when he asked if she had siblings and she almost let out a groan at the thought of all of them. "I have four siblings, three older sisters and a younger brother." Though she didn't really feel as if she had that close of a bond with any of them. Lucas was probably her closest bet. "What about you?"
She grinned and nodded her head encouragingly when he asked if he could call her Kimmie, "Please do." Kimmie laughed again at his exclamation, nodding her head. "Probably so! It's not a problem, I wouldn't have expected to run into another transfer so soon. Are you looking forward to Hogwarts?" She absolutely was.

He raised up his hands – well hand because he was holding his ice cream- and awkwardly waved them- well his left hand. “No, no, you’re fine. Please don’t apologize.” He offered her another kind smile and prayed that his flushed cheeks would disappear quickly. Merlin. He got so flustered over a girl – that wasn’t like him. He was about to ask her another question when she called him… SWEET. He could have melted along with his ice cream to the floor and become a puddle. He was… sweet? That was nice of her. “Okay,” he nodded. He didn’t know what else to say.
Four siblings? That was one more than him! “OH WOW. I thought three siblings was a lot. I’m the oldest. Yay – experimental child and all. I have three younger siblings. One brother and two sisters.” He loved his siblings and he took great pride in being the eldest. He would be able to help them out no matter what; however, ever since he had discovered magical tendencies… things had been different but Kimmie didn’t need to know that! He wouldn’t bore her with those details. He took a spoonful of his ice cream in order to stop himself from revealing that truth.
“Kimmie it is then,” he said, offering another smile accompanied with a nod. He paused at her question. “To be honest… I think so? Everyone I’ve met so far has been relatively kind which is nice and the majority of them have told me that I’d end up in Hufflepuff so I’m excited. Yeah. I do hope I end up in that house.” little did he know fate had other plans. “What about you? Are you excited?”

She noticed the slight color to his cheeks, but decided not to draw attention and try to fluster him any further. She smiled at him instead and gave a slight chuckle.
Three siblings for him? Another big family! "Oh my! That's also a lot! Are any of your siblings school age as well?" She definitely envied his position as the oldest child. Kimmie always felt that as the youngest of four girls she was just kind of... There. A lot of the time she felt like the forgotten youngest child, even though Lucas was after her as well. Lucas at least got to be the first boy which gave him a special place in the family. Not that she needed to bore anyone with her middle child complex.
He'd met a lot of nice people? Well, that was most definitely encouraging. "That's good! It makes it easier if you've gotten a chance to know some nice familiar faces." And he even already had an idea on what house! "I hope that's the one you get then!" Her? "I am pretty excited. My oldest two sisters graduated from Hogwarts and it's where my parents met. It'll be nice to see their old stomping grounds." She wasn't sure on what house she'd end up though. Maybe Hufflepuff, as that's where Dad, Regina and Naia had all been placed.
