On either side of the shop, book shelves tower up to the ceiling and hold books of every kind. Fiction and non-fiction, autobiographies, biographies, even muggle manuals. Perhaps your interests lie in Astronomy, maybe magizoology, perhaps even the history of Mr. Zonko.

Most of your literature needs will be somewhere on these shelves, apart from the particularly delicate books or books concerning dark arts and other specialist subjects. These can be inquired about at the Third Hand Books Counter. If a book appears to be missing or out of stock, consult the shopkeeper.

Please do NOT climb the shelves and remember that some customers like silence when browsing, so keep the noise to a minimum. Likewise, please do NOT damage or deface any books.

Remember these books are old, used and third hand. It is unlikely that you will find a pristine copy. They are cheap after all.

Happy browsing, and don’t forget the pay at the counter.

Daniel had just turned into the shelves to put some books away when he caught sight of two adults. One shot him a goodbye and the other...

Errr...

Left with a book.

Bugger!

"Hey!" He couldn't do that! But... it seemed Daniel wouldn't have a say in this. Perfect. The first shoplifter, and it was a shifty looking dude who'd probably curse him.

Atropos turned to the... boy... really. He narrowed his eyes at him. Then walked straight to him and stared. Atropos stood over him and menacingly spat "Who. Do you. Think. You are speaking with, kid?"

He was gonna die. He was gonna get killed in his shop. Great, he wasn't even married.

"Erm... yuh-you?" he mumbled, acting as though he'd been confronted by a bully on the school playground. Then he realised he was an adult... he could protect himself and everything. "I mean, you. You, err... need to pay for that..."

Daniel glanced at the man and kind of shrank back a quarter of an inch.

"... book."

He smiled at the boy who wanted money for the book.

He took a step away, while at the same time his wand dropped in his hand and quickly he aimed at the boy screaming "CRUCIO!" The jolt from the wand carried to the boy and was aimed straight for his chest.

When the other dude smiled, Daniel was super relieved, and he visibly relaxed. He didn't really have much time to think about what the guy was doing, but he smiled at him.

He didn't see the wand and had always been slow to draw his own anyway, even if he'd had time.

Daniel let out an earpiercing scream as all of his muscle seized up in some kind evil all over cramp. Also, everything he'd read and heard about the crucio spell was true... and then some. He couldn't move... could only scream and wait for it to stop.

Atropos laughed as he watched the boy twitch and scream. He pulled his wand away and slowly approached the boy. He got close enough to his ear for him to feel his breath. "Now... what was it you were saying?" He whispered.

When the spell was lifted, Daniel immediately grabbed at a shelf to keep himself up, because his knees were going to buckle under his weight if her wasn't careful.

The other guy came closer and Daniel flinched, trembling without even trying to hide it when he whispered in Daniel's ear.

"T-t-take it."

It was a book. He'd buy another... it wasn't worth that pain.

"I thought that's what you said." Atropos smiled. "And I believe it will be what you will say every time I enter this establishment..." He touched a shelf and saw it's dustiness. "Which will be very rarely..." He began to leave but turned around. "Something to remember this... occasion." And his wand shot back out. "Sectum!" He cursed cutting him once on his cheek.

ooc: Sectum Sempra cuts over and over, I assume Sectum only cuts once.

Daniel nodded his head. He fully intended to take precautions to NOT let this guy or anyone else in, if he could help it... maybe to keep the best books held back and-

Wait. He was thinking of his precious bloody books again.

Thinking he was about to faint in relief, Daniel sank against the shelf again. Then the next spell came. The young man gave a strangled cry and brought a hand quickly up to his cheek, pressing it against his face. Too much pain for one day!

Tears springing to his eyes, Daniel sank to his knees.

Daniel was not even ashamed to be crying. His body was aching and his face was bleeding. Once the man had disappeared, Daniel shakily took out his wand and waved it in a weird tight circle above his head. He heard a loud click which meant his shop was locked up for him and the spell could only be lifted with Dark stuff.

Conjuring a wad of bandages for his face (he somehow knew he didn't have to skill to fix this cut), Daniel straightened up again and apparated on shaky feet. Dangerous, but necessary.

To the Healers!

Anita strolled casually into the book store with nothing in mind to search for really, she just wanted to browse. Mostof her books had to be left in the states because she hadn't had the money to ship everything here in her haste to get out. Taking a deep breath she smiled when the smell of books invaded her senses. Ahhh. It was like a security blanket for her. Wandering aimlessly she let her fingers gently slide along the spines of the books.

"Oh I am just looking around, really. I am not sure what I am looking for," she said and then her smile faded. Oh the poor dear looked like a mere child and that was a fresh scar on his poor little face.

Her face then turned serious when she caught that he muttered Dark wizards. "Oh dear! You were attacked in your own shop?! Oh come here and let me hug you," she said as she held her arms out.

She smiled at him sadly and shook her head, "I am quite sure that no one expects to be attacked in their own shop and because of that you can't blame yourself, dear. I hear the Cruciatus Curse is no laughing matter. I am sure if you could have protected yourself you would have done so." She smiled wider still when he opened the chocolate frog.

"Is the summer rush terrible? I am a bit nervous about it. I tend to fall down a lot. I hope I don't squish a kid or something," she said with a laugh. THat would be terrible. Kid bits on the floor. Yuck.

She gave another laugh and shook her head. "I just talk so much that I forget to introduce myself. For Merlin's sake I handed a man my shoe instead of shaking his hand the other day. Long story, but I had my shoe in my hand," Yeah there was a reason for the shoe giving. She didn't like take it off and hand it to the man.
