| | Third Hand Books Shelves
On either side of the shop, book shelves tower up to the ceiling and hold books of every kind. Fiction and non-fiction, autobiographies, biographies, even muggle manuals. Perhaps your interests lie in Astronomy, maybe magizoology, perhaps even the history of Mr. Zonko.
Most of your literature needs will be somewhere on these shelves, apart from the particularly delicate books or books concerning dark arts and other specialist subjects. These can be inquired about at the Third Hand Books Counter. If a book appears to be missing or out of stock, consult the shopkeeper.
Please do NOT climb the shelves and remember that some customers like silence when browsing, so keep the noise to a minimum. Likewise, please do NOT damage or deface any books.
Remember these books are old, used and third hand. It is unlikely that you will find a pristine copy. They are cheap after all.
Happy browsing, and don’t forget the pay at the counter. OOC :: List of books are in the inventory over at the Welcome Thread. |

She Grabbed two extras of each that Jade didn't have and laid them out on the table. NOw how many more do I have to get? She wondered looking back at her list. Just four more. She walked back through the shelves looking for Jade to see if she had any luck with the last four on the list.

Becca had all the books she needed, plus more. She smiled. Working togehter had done lots of good for the group. She smiled as she collected her group of books, about to go to the counter to pay. "I hope we see each other on the train" She said smiling.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Elle Jackson First Year | "No, I'm an only child," Elle said to Becca. She then turned towards Jade, smiling, and was ecstatic to be meeting new people so quickly. I feel like such a nerd. "Thanks for looking for books with me," she said to the girls. Hopefully she could find other kids that were this willing to help out a stranger.

She attempted a wave, but she couldn't. "See you guys later then," she said as she walked to the front counter. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Elle Jackson First Year | "That would be great!" Elle replied. Elle only had a couple more books she needed to find, and maybe pick something up for light reading. She still had a lot of places to make it to before the end of the day. Then, it was countdown to Hogwarts time. |

Theodore Dumble, a fifteen-year-old of average stature, pushed the door of the book shop open, a light tinkling sound emanating from the bell near the door. The aroma of the shop was welcome to him in a place that he wasn't so familiar in: it almost smelled like home. Stuffing his hands in the pockets of his old, faded jeans, his blue eyes scanned the titles of various tomes curiously as his trainers padded along the wooden floor. Making his way down the aisles, he pulled out a book or two that took his fancy, whether it brought about a bit of nostalgia or held an interesting title. From what he ascertained after checking out a novel here and there, Gilderoy Lockart was a very accomplished, well-groomed wizard and Bathilda Bagshot's novels seemed to have been put through the mill quite a few times, which indicated that her words were useful and often needed at hand.
Coming to the end of a shelf that was near the back of the shop, Theodore came upon a novel that made his heart swell as he swiped it from the shelf rather excitedly, beaming at the cover: The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, a renowned muggle of literary fame. Back when he had lived in the states less than five years before, his mother had taken the time to pass along one of her favorite works to him, which soon became his novel of choice as well. It made his stomach churn slightly, bringing on a longing to return to his former home in New York, but he bit his lip in consternation as he flipped through the thin pages of the work. Even after a month after returning to England after spending most of his life in the U.S.A., Theodore still was having quite the time becoming accustomed to everything muggle and wizard that differed from things at home.

Roderigo lightly pushed open the door of the bookstore with one arm, inhaling deeply as we closed the door behind him. He loved the smell of books. Even though these books were tattered, worn, even abused, they still retained that book smell. He chuckled at his musing and instantly headed over to the spellbooks. The seventeen-year-old figured that it'd be cheaper to just buy The Standard Book of Spells: Grade 7 from this quaint little bookshop rather than the expensive Flourish and Blotts. Pulling the rather large, battered book from the shelf, he moved over to the Muggle section to pick up a copy of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. However, someone was blocking his way in the Muggle Section. The aisles were not terribly wide, and the Spaniard didn't feel like walking around to the other side of the bookstore. He didn't recognize the seemingly sixth-year-aged boy from Hogwarts, but decided to consult with him anyway. He tapped the curly brown teen on the shoulder.
"Perdóname, but I'm trying to get a book here if you could excuse me...." Roderigo asked the stranger.

"Perdóname, but I'm trying to get a book here if you could excuse me...." Roderigo asked the stranger. Theodore jumped at the sensation of a soft tapping on his shoulder blade. He nearly dropped his book! Flushing pink from embarrassment, he turned to face who had spoken to him in such an obviously Hispanic accent. Bowing his head and his blue eyes glancing nervously about, the shorter teen pressed himself against the shelf as he cracked a small, weak smile. He muttered, "I'm sorry, go right ahead," in his obviously American accent, hoping that the stranger would swiftly pass by and save the blue-shirted boy the further humiliation of showcasing his socially awkward ways.
However, upon further thought, Theodore wondered if it would be such a bad thing if the stranger decided to strike up a conversation. His accent labeled his status as a foreigner, and he looked as if he was an older student. Hogwarts students were said to swarm Diagon Alley at this time of year, as it was. As the fellow curly-locked guy swept past him, Theodore plucked up the courage and managed to squeak out a friendly, albeit nervous, inquiry: "You wouldn't happen to go to Hogwarts, would you, erm... sir?" For all he knew, this was simply an adult with a young aesthetic who was browsing books on his break from one of the shops on the street. Had he gotten the opportunity, Theodore's palm would have made swift contact with his forehead for his social stupidity. He nervously bent the dog-eared corners of the piece of muggle literature he held in his hands as his eyes forced him to concentrate on the winking, smiling cover of a Gilderoy Lockhart book.

Supressing a howl of laughter at the boy's reaction, Roderigo took a step back and smiled awkwardly. He wasn't expecting the guy to react that way and was not sure how to proceed. However, before he could make a decision as to what he was to do next, his acquaintance moved out of the way. The Spaniard began walking down the aisle when the boy spoke to him again. He spun on the back of his heel and looked at the man as he asked Roderigo a question. Subtly taking note of the obnoxious face of Gilderoy Lockhart on the cover of the boy's book, Roderigo moved a bit closer.
"Why yes I do go to Hog- wait, did you just call me sir?" he stopped and gave the boy a quizzical look. "There's no need" He chuckled and leaned against the overcrowded bookshelf, which swayed slightly at his light weight.
"Judging by your accent, I'd say you are from the United States?" he asked. Suddenly thinking it was too rude of him to jump on the poor guy, he too had a flushed look from embarrassment. He decided it was better for him to more adequately answer the question he was asked. "Er..yes, I do go to Hogwarts. I'm a seventh-year Ravenclaw" he said rather proudly. He, who had only been living in England himself for the past year knew it was rather difficult acclimating to the British lifestyle, especially for a wizard. His shoulder began to ache from being pressed against the wooden shelf and the Spaniard shifted his position to feel better. It had probably been at least five minutes before he realized he had never introduced himself.
"My deepest apologies," he muttered, looking at the blue-eyed boy. "My name is Lacerda, Roderigo De Lacerda." He smiled with much more confidence this time and lifted his hand out to shake his new friend's hand.

The stranger only succeeded in deepening Theodore's childish flush by declaring that he wasn't comfortable with being addressed so formally. He hadn't wanted to take his chances, just in case he hadn't been speaking to another student but rather an adult wizard. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Roderigo," Theodore stuck out his hand to meet that of the other student. "I'm Theodore Dumble. I'm starting Hogwarts this year, actually. And yes, I just came over from New York, actually." He managed to put on a genuine smile, putting the Lockhart book back in it's place.
"Are you from... I want to say somewhere from South America, but I could be wrong. Maybe Spain?" His eyebrows rose, curiosity overcoming him. He sounded like he could be Argentinian, but there was a trace of Spaniard about the raven-haired, lanky boy. Maybe he was mixed.

Aurora walked into the Third Hand Book Emporium, she was looking for a very specific book, one recommended to her by a potionier back in Germany. Hmm, Moonlight Potions, where are you..? She searched through the potion books, sat on the floor in front of them. Putting aside others that interested her.
When she had a pile of four or five books next to her she decided to give up. Maybe they didn't have it. Then she caught a glimpse of a shimmering blue spine. She pulled out the book and grinned, here it was. Wow, it was pretty. She leafed through the pages, some of these potions looked pretty difficult, GREAT! She loved a challenge.
She held tight onto the book and looked through the others she'd picked out. They all seemed a little boring now, she began to put them back onto their shelves before deciding to keep one and stood to go to the counter.

She had always found out that most of the greatest books came from used or ancient types of books. They had always been the best. She was a fast reader, getting through a book in merely six hours or to two days. Then again, if she really wanted to dedicate herself to something, she would. Seeing a brunett that seemed to be browsing just like herself she asked "Hi, I don't suppose you've seen any gardening or herbology books? The books i've passed fit the romance and mystery category." Natalia kept on browsing through the old, tired looking books that were placed upon the shelves. She lightly touched the bindings as she searched through the books, careful not to break the fragile bindings of them. Most of these seemed about potions and brewings. She wasn't exactly looking for these types of books, more of fiction. As she continued looking a person had come up to her to ask her about some of the books. She looked up and gave a light smile as she stood up. "No actually, my apologies. However, the last time I had come here I think I had spotted some just a few shelves down. You could try looking at this shelf...here." She said walking down past a couple shelves, scanning the bindings of the books and finally coming down to where some Herbology books were. "Well look at that, I was right. I'm really suprising myself today." She gave a small laugh. "I hope that helps."
The twenty-one year old started to walk back over to where she was, but then stopped as she found a book about planting magical candy in a garden. "There has to be no such thing." She muttered to herself, stopping beside the lady whom she had just helped, picking up the book and flipping through the pages. Natalia loved reading about new and unique things in the world, she felt like she became smarter knowing these random facts. She read a couple lines, nodded her head knowing that she would go home and do the exact same thing. She looked back over to the lady and asked, "I'm guessing you're planting something in your garden?" Might as well make small talk, there was no one else around and it always made her feel so awkward in book stores like this anyways. It was just a bit too quiet, uncomfortable quiet, that is.

Taking down the sign that hung in the window of his new purchase, a fresh faced man smiled to himself, rather pleased with what he had bought. Despite the fact it wasn't as flashy as Flourish and Blotts, nor was it as exciting as some of the other shops for the younger generation, Jude, named after the famous Beatles song by his mother (His brother had not escaped the fate either) loved the idea of owning his own bookshop that was accessible and affordable for everyone.
Being an author left Jude with a lot of love for books and although some books appeared tatty and overused, there were a few genuine antique treasures hidden amongst the aisles. Opening up the shutters and allowing light to flood in, he switched the sign on the door. OPEN FOR BUSINESS.

Mordred promised himself that he will stay in their manor up until summer’s over to enjoy his free time. But after their family trip to Egypt, he can’t help but give in to the urge of finding a good book about the Voynich Manuscript they found from their trip. Sure, Flourish and Blotts may have a book or two about it, but the Third Hand Book Emporium was worth the try. Besides, Aurora found a rare potions book in that store; it is not impossible that he might find something here too.
He scanned the aisle of old books and the boy would occasionally pull out books that interests him. Most of it were about Defense against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration. Sighing, he got the old parchment they bought in Egypt from his pocket and examined it. “Very interesting.” He thought as he looked at the medieval drawings and the writings on it. “Unusual, but very interesting.” He wondered if the parchment he was holding was some sort of a secret message or code. If only he could find the right book in this shop. Or if there was someone willing to help him out.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Aine (AWN-ya) Starz Second Year | Keeper of the Gryffindor Tree Snuffles' Snuggle Ball Aine walked in to what had to be her favorite store in all of Diagon Alley. Though anyone looking at her would say she belonged in the place her aura was that of someone much older then she was. Not to mention that fact that she very much resemble Audrey Hepburn with her short dark hair and large dark eyes. As she entered the store she felt a overwhelming since of calm, which was a oddity for a empathic teenage wizard like herself. She smiled as she walked through the rows of books picking up the low hum of emotions that always buzzed around her like some type of giant bubble it swirled and hummed but she kept the smile on her face and her shields up. She was so busy looking at the shelves and not where she was going she walked right into a boy. No one said she was graceful.
“my apologies” she mumbled with out looking up OOC: this can be any male character in the store

Abby (as she was always called by her twin) walked into the bookstore...She was slightly nervous, but calmed herself. She was with books, her favourite things in the world, there was nothing to be afraid of.
She walked up to the counter like her twin had told her and said "Umm...I would like two sets of book required for first years for Hogwarts, one for my sis and the other for me...and I would also like Lord of the Rings, my sister insists I read it" Her heart was thumping, was this what she meant to say?

Arianna strode in with a sense of purpose, then stopped, realizing she didn't have a purpose at all, she just wanted to go hunting through the thousands of books. Shrugging to herself with a smirk she began her quest to search the many shelves for something that would fit her fancy. Running her finger across the worn spines she trudged along, eyes wandering. Hmmm there were so many to choose from, but which ones would be best?

Hogwarts RPG Name: Liam Coleman Seventh Year | Irish eyes || Nanny McPhee Perhaps a second hand store would be the way to go.
Not that he expected to find the type of book he was looking for -- it was pure luck to have found the one at the Hogwarts Library. There was also that possibility to ask for help, but Damien would prefer to avoid strange stares and further questions on why he as searching for a book on such a dark topic.
So he managed himself. Walking through the bookshelves, finger on each spine reading the titles carefully until something caught his eye that might possibly be helpful. |
