A bit short on galleons, Fletcher headed into the Third Hand bookstore. Whoa, how come he had never noticed this place before? It seemed... well... useful. He wasn't really that into books to begin with and didn't mind what condition they were in.

Fletcher made the way over to the section for education and started perusing for sixth year books. Crazy that it was almost his last year and all...

Walking down the row in front of the counter and checking down the aisles for any misbehaviour or escaped zoo animals or perhaps even a secret agent... or all three, Daniel caught sight of another customer in the education section, and he smiled a little to himself as he thought back to checking through every single book for dangerous notes or ripped out pages...

It had been a nightmare.

He was smiling because it was OVER.

Deciding not to seem like a pushy shopkeeper, Daniel just began idly checking through the books on the shelves, pulling them out and pushing them back, making sure they were in order. If this boy or any other customer needed him, they could ask. Yup.

He had a name tag and smart clothes (albeit quite muggle-ish) and everything.

Fletcher looked up from thumbing through Quintessence: A Quest as he heard some guy approach the shelves. Hmm. He hardly gave him a second look as he went back to the slightly worn book.

Did the guy work here? Maybe? The boy spared him a second glance and noticed a name tag. Aha so he did.

"Mr...." Fletcher squinted at his name tag, "Upstead. How much for a set of sixth-year books?"

Deciding not to go with the cliche response 'Mr. Upstead is my father's name', Daniel turned properly to the customer again and did that weird kind of neck-stretching, expression-changing, slight-eyebrow-raising kind of thing, as if to say 'Yes, hmmm, I'm listeneing. I'm interested, I can help you yes, hmmmmm?'.

"Certainly," he ended up replying with a polite smile. "Each set costs two galleons each. Every set does, for each year. Single books from the list cost 6 sickles each, just so you know."

'Cause, y'know, it was his duty to... well... sell books.

Fletcher almost openly stared at the way the man -- well, boy, really, as this Upstead character was hardly older than himself -- stretched his head or neck or something. Hmmkay.

"Right," Fletcher drawled. "I'll take a set. And I was wondering.... do you have any books on Nifflers, perchance?"

He squinted at the name tag again. Upstead. That seemed kinda familiar.

"Okay then, you're right by the sixth year sets... they're just to your left," Daniel pointed out, putting the book he had absently pulled out of the shelves and turning to look at the shelves to his back, before stepping to HIS right and scanning the names on the shelves. "I do indeed; the research books are here, since it's education and all... and they're all in alphabetical order. But I have them under 'animals' rather than 'magical creatures'."

Because he hung out with muggles wayyyyyy too much.

Or actually... no... not enough. Hehe.

Locating the right bookcase, Daniel smiled in satisfaction and stopped in front of it, before pointing to the shelf second from the bottom. "Plenty on Nifflers. Take your pick."

He was... forgetting something.

Wait... errr... OH YEAH!

"Anything else I can help you with?"

Oh right. He was right there by the books he needed. Fletcher started a small pile of all the texts required for the sixth year, one of which happened to be Quintessence: A Quest.

"Cool, thanks," he nodded to the shopkeeper and added The Standard Book of Spells: Grade Six to his pile. "Which Niffler book would you recommend to someone interested in... like... training a niffler?"

He shuffled his feet slightly and glanced at the guy's name tag again. "Hey do you have like a sister or something who goes to Hogwarts?" Fletcher could've sworn there was an Upstead in his year.

Sparing a glance at the boy collecting up his books, Daniel once more focused on the Niffler books, trying to find one that he had found especially amusing.

"Sure... I have one here which has some amusing comments in it as well as being pretty awesome in regards to the Niffler..." Daniel trailed off slightly as he continued looking. With a triumphant 'ahh' the young man edged the book out via sliding it using his index finger, ever so carefully, and then slid it out properly. "Here it is. Your Niffler and Keeping it's Atten- Ooh, Shiny! Brilliant read."

Yessssssss, Daniel read animal training books for fun, so whut?!

Oh, wait... what?

"Errr..." Hmmm... awkward. This would make him look like a bit of a heartless person. "Well... I don't know. I could. I steer clear of my dad's side of the family." Including his new kids or whatever the heck they were.

Daniel had no qualms about revealing this though. It wasn't like a huge deal to him.

"So, whatever they did, I have nothing to do with it," the young man half-joked.

Ooh, shiny! "Sounds perfect," Fletcher said with a little grin. He took the book from the shopkeeper and nodded approvingly at the cover. Adding the book to the pile, the boy tried to recall anything else he might need... or want.

Nah. Books were for boring people. Except this guy. He seemed to have a sense of humor.

"That's understandable. I'm the same way, only with my stepfather and... those siblings." He scratched his chin briefly. "You know, I think it's a guy, actually, he might even look like you..."

Though what did Fletcher know. He'd been at Hogwarts... what, one term? Yeah.

"Awesome," Daniel replied, smiling as he let the boy take the book, whilst doing the super easy calculation in his head. He'd just have to check when they got back to the counter. Eh.

Nodding in some kind of understanding at the boy's comment about his own issues or whatever the heck they were, Daniel commented, "It's only easier for everyone, in my case. Bit too soap opera for me, being the long lost brother... but you never know... maybe this kid might come in here."

And the second he did, Daniel would hide his nametag.

"You ready to pay for those?"

"That would be an uh, interesting way to meet," Fletcher commented. Heh, a bit of a surprise for the other kid, looking up at the shopkeeper to see his own last name on the name tag. He wouldn't want to be around when that happened.

"Yes, definitely. Lead the way to the counter." He scooped up his pile of books and carefully walked around a firstie that had popped up.

Chucking softly at the boy's comment, Daniel nodded slightly in agreement. Great. Now he had a fear.

Wait... hadn't someone mentioned the same kid (Or, Merlin help him, a different one) last year. Like... just before the summer came around. It hadn't happened then... so he'd probably be safe now.

"Of course, good sir!" Daniel went on, putting on his best fake-businessman voice. Hehe. Glancing at the other customer, Daniel gave her an acknowledging tip of the head. "I'll be right back, mate," he told her, using his universal term of endearment, before leading the fine young gentleman he had been conversing with to the counter

What had pulled Ady in this store was his passion to the old book and their smell also old books were always useful because their previous owner might take down some notes which could be benefical in school. he was lucky to find this shop as soon as he walked in the alley. He checked his list again and gathered all the books he need for school. he was in a hurry because he wanted to check the novels in the other section, he was such a bookworm so he kept looking over the store...

Making his way back to the education section again, Daniel rolled up his sleeves and considered propping the door of the shop open to get some air in... before realising that if there was a sudden gust of wind some of the more... delicate books could get damaged.

So... no.

"Right then," Daniel smiled, rubbing his hands together as he approached the young girl. "Do you have your booklist with you or shall I fetch mine?"

Rowan decided to purchase her school books at the third hand store. Not having a family, she had to be especially careful with what money she had. Besides, there was nothing quite like the smell and feel of old books. She knew these books could be her only friends at Hogwarts and she needed that familiar smell to comfort her. Just walking into the shop brightened her spirits. Rowan wandered around the store, taking her time instead of going directly to the section where her school books could be found. After she had perused every book on every shelf she chose the books she needed and carried them to the counter.

"Right-o," Daniel nodded, taking the list and scanning it quickly. Yep. Sure was a list. "Okay... first books are... Hogwarts: A History by Chroniculus Punnet and A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot, which should be down the aisle a little, most of the first year books are kept together. Just gotta locate them. Can you see them?" Daniel asked, craning his neck to look down the shelves.

"Wait a sec, kid... there's a bunch more on here," Daniel pointed out hurriedly, before reading out the rest of the list.

"Sure thing," Daniel smiled, placing the list carefully on the top. "C'mon then," he added, leaning the way to the counter, checking back every now and then to check she wasn't having trouble with them heavy books.

oh I'm fine i wight lift in my spare time. she walks to the counter with all of her first year books.
