| | Third Hand Books Counter
Here at the counter is where you are able to pay for your purchases and possibly talk to the shopkeeper about any questions you might have. Daniel, the shopkeeper, is always ready to hear your questions and lend a hand, and maybe even have a friendly chat with you if the time is right. Enquire about any specific books here.
Just behind the counter there are two doors. One leading to the Back Room and one leading to the Special Area where the most delicate books are kept, alongside those on more sensitive topics. OOC :: List of books are in the inventory over at the Welcome Thread. Just until I get a graphic. XD |

Krisaldi could not get enough of this bookstore, it was the smell of old books that made her want to stay. She decided, however, that if she was ever gonna purchase her books, she'd have to go to the counter. Stepping up to the counter, she grinned toothily, "Well good day to you sir! I hope you're having a splendid day! I just wish to purchase these first year textbooks. How much would this be all together?"

"You know your very lucky that you forgot to come to Flourish & Blotts with me." Anna said bossily to her older brother. "Then I wouldn't have been able to purchase more books." she told him with a smile. "Shush you little first year!" Michael Reese said to his younger sister. She stuck out her tongue at him and ran around the store. Michael did have most of the books he needed at home but he just needed to cheak off the new ones for his fourth year. Great Wizards of the Twentieth Century - got that
Modern Magical History - got that
Home Life and Social Habits of British Muggles by Wilhelm Wigworthy - got that
The Monster Book of Monsters - got that
The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Tremble
The Standard Book of Spells Grade 4 by Miranda Goshawk
The Pocket Guide to the Night Sky by Rigel Wilkes - got that
Unfogging the Future by Cassandra Vablatsky - got that
Bindrunes and Galdr Tunes by Jules Norson - got that
Herbology Caretaking and Dangerous Plants by L. Podemis
Thurston Candlewick's Complete and Extremely Useful Field Guide to Dark Creatures - got that
Intermediate Transfiguration Sixth Edition Michael just needed 4 out of the 12 books. Not bad. He waited in line while his sister painted behind him carrying 4 novels. "There's no way mum and dad will let you get four novels. you didn't even finish the quidditch books yet!" Michael told her. "Actually, I'm halfway through Quidditch through the ages" she told her brother. "You can keep one." Michael told her. She stormed from him carrying her books and then came with one novel and two advanced education books. "Anna..." her brother started. "Relax, I got one for you and one for me. You have the advanced potions and I have the advanced defense against dark arts. happy?" she said to him. "Thankssss Annnnaaa." he told her as she made a funny face at him and started reading her novel while waiting in line.

Mickey dragged herself to the counter holding the last thing she needed to buy for the school year: books. She couldn't wait for her mother to charm them so they'd feel so much lighter than the actually were."How much will they be?" She asked bracing herself for the number that was probably higher than the amount she still had left over.* She probably shouldn't have went crazy with buying things for her new wand, but she was hoping at least everything she got for it would be a good investment.

And before he thought about if it might be allowed or not, he raised his wand and said: "Wingardium Leviosa", pointing it onto the pile of books.
The hovered for a moment, and when he started to think about the consequences for his spellcasting (which, after all, wasn't allowed unless he was at Hogwarts), in that brief moment, books all started to fall onto the floor.
"OH WHA..."
He blushed and started pickig up the books from the ground, intending to get out as fast as he could. Oh how polite.
The Shopkeeper smiled genuinely, a lot wider than his usual grin at the young boys comment. "Oh that is quite alright" he chuckled. "I'm very glad I bought this shop out myself, I think its very important to keep young and old interested in the books and to make it accessible for everyone, no matter their background" he spoke truthfully. That comment had just made his day.
But just as he was about to turn to the next customer, he dropped his books all on the floor. Leaning across the counter, Jude swiftly levitated the books and up into his arms. "Be careful not to drop them again" he laughed and then moved on. Quote:

Sarah checked her list, that was it. It made it so much easier for the young man when everyone bought the whole collection of books. Which is why it was so brilliant when first years came into the shop. Less maths for him and more interacting within the shop. "That all totals to 2 galleons then" he stated smiling. The collection discounts rates was such a good idea. Quote:

Jude calculated the amount in his head whilst the pair interacted. That was nice, family paying together. Not often would you see brother and sister together these days. "That'll be 51 sickles. Or.. 3 Galleons exactly" he stated. Quote:

Michael grabbed his bag full of his other four education books and advanced potions. "Thank you." he said to the shopkeeper as he walked out. "You have a very nice collection here." Anna said happily. "What's your favorite book in the store?" Anna asked the shopkeeper.

He needed...something. Something that'll help him understand this world better. Something that'll help him seem less ignorant about the magical world.
Stepping into the shop, Kennedy approached the counter. He had no idea where to go and was a tad afraid that these books might bite. They were magical and all...maybe. "Hmhm," he cleared his throat as he pushed his glasses up to the bridge of his nose. "Um, do you have a book that, um, is about the magical world?" he said, lowly. Kennedy didn't want anyone over hearing him. That would be totally embarassing.

Glenn had all of her first-year books in her arms. They were extremely heavy and made her bent over as she carried them.
She waited in line until it was her turn. She tried to place them on the counter but they were too heavy.
"Excuse me," Glenn said, "A little help here?"

Having spent a good hour or so just wandering around the store picking up bits and pieces, Arlo had finally settled on a rather large selection of books. He loved reading and learning in general and he needed to improve his English skills so he had therefore decided to buy extra books rather than just the set he needed.
He had the set list of school books;
He had also picked up a copy of The Art of Potion Making by S. Snape (mostly because he was fascinated by Potions, even though it wasn't one he needed yet), Advanced Creature Care (again, more due to a fascination with animals, particularly large and dangerous ones), one English dictionary, one Italian dictionary, one encyclopedia, six novels, three comic books and a book about owl care from the 'many previous owners' section. He had a feeling he would be doing a lot of reading! It wasn't that he was particularly poor, really. He just wanted to save as much as he could so that he could buy more books later. And besides, he would only need these books for a year so he didn't see the point in buying brand new ones. That seemed like a waste to him.
He headed to the counter once it was his turn and set the books down on it, looking up at the shop keeper and smiling. This was likely to be quite expensive but he didn't mind too much. He knew there would be a library at the school but he wanted some of his own books too.

Its a very good school, I certainly learned a lot when I was there" he smiled. "Just remember to do your work, it pays off in the end." Hence his best selling book and him owning this wonderful shop. "That'll be 2 galleons in total" he stated finally, shuffling the books closer to the girl. Never had he had such a happy customer. It was pleasant. Quote:

"Its a shame siblings don't seem to get on anymore. I always had a great relationship with my brother" he looked at the young girl. "Don't let him get you down though" he nodded and smiled. A compliment. "Thank you. It's appreciated" he grinned. "And I wouldn't be able to choose, I love all books. I guess I enjoyed reading the 'Fantastic Beasts and where to find them' as a youngster" he answered. Despite the fact CoMC wasn't his best subject, the textbook had been an interesting read. Quote:

"If you have a look around there are a lot of Biographies that could be of help. Or maybe if you look at the shelves over there, there are some interesting reads on magic for beginners, I'm sure there'll be something there for you" he answered. Quote:

Someone liked reading an awful lot. This pile was massive. "I'm guessing you'll be spending your time at Hogwarts reading?" he asked, tallying up the price in his head. "That's what I did a lot of the time, when I had nothing better to do" he nodded, still working out how much it came to. "That'll be 4 galleons 3 sickles and 18 knuts please" he charmed the books to be lighter. Quote:

Arlo smiled at the man, "Reading, it is good. I like reading to speak English more... Uh... Better?" He laughed slightly. He tended to forget words if they weren't ones he would have to say regularly. And as for potions ingredients and spells, they really confused him at that time. Sure, most were in Latin so that made things easier when his first language was Italian, but some of them really confused him. "Hogwarts, it has a library?" he asked the man, seeing as he seemed to have been there. He was hopeful there would be but he liked having his own books too. As the man said the total, Arlo was quite surprised it wasn't higher than that. He put his hand in his pocket (they were charmed by his brother to hold more than they looked like they would hold) and pulled out a few coins. He happened to have 5 galleons in his hand and thought it would be easier to give the man the 5 galleons than try and count out 18 knuts so he handed that over instead.

"Great Wizards of the Twentieth Century, Modern Magical History, Home Life and, Social Habits of British Muggles blah blah blah" Tyler muttered as he brought his huge stack of books to the counter. Lucky for him his athletic build allowed him to carry them all in one big stack without too much effort. He hoisted them up onto the counter with a big 'hmph' but otherwise no effort was shown. He rang the little bell and waited for the shop keep to ring him out

Jude nodded at his response. "Reading is definitely a way to broaden your vocabulary" he stated smiling. It also gave you an escape. A vision into another world, fantasy or real life, tragic or fun. Jude loved every type of book, and nothing relaxed him more than a good book on a summers evening. "Yes it does. A rather large Library, you could spend a few weekends in that place if you wanted to" he chuckled to himself. "It has something for everyone in there, I'm sure there'll be something suitable for you in there." Even people who didn't like reading often found something in there that excites them. "Thank you" he took the money and handed over the change. "Have a good time at Hogwarts" he grinned. Quote:

Salima walked out of the shop hapily with her books. Jude accepted the money and smiled gently at the young student. "Have a good time at Hogwarts" he spoke as she left the shop. Quote:

Noticing how heavy the pile of books seemed to be for her, he levitated the books up onto the counter and charmed them to appear lighter than they were. "There. That'll be a lot lighter for your arms" he smiled before taking in the huge pile. "So what have you got here? All your first year text books?" he asked. Quote:

"Do you want me to charm them to be lighter or are you okay there?" he asked, his eyebrow still raised up high. "What exactly do you have here?" he asked, leaning across the counter and reading the titles of the books. Quote:

You can't put a price on love" he winked at her, glancing around at all the books that were in the store. "What can I help you with?" he asked, chuckling softly and listening to the list she had seemed to of created.

Kelly nodded and payed the two Galleons. " Thank you!" she said as she grabed her books off of the counter. She was glad she finally got her books, and was ready to go home!

"No thanks, I'm fine" Tyler lied shaking out his muscles. "Just the fourth year standard stuff. But I think this one's pretty banged up, odds i can get a discount?" Tyler said pointing to a very 'well loved' version of Modern Magical History that was 2 seconds from falling apart. Again, he felt the heavy pocket full of galleons but still thought the dramatically low price was too high

He seemed really friendly, and had similar interests to him, such as reading. He liked this guy. "It is," he agreed with his statement. "But sometimes, to pronounce English words is strange," he laughed. Some words just looked nothing like how you would actually say them. Still, he'd get the hang of it eventually. Arlo grinned at the idea of a large library. It sounded like a lot of fun, exploring that and such. "I think I go to the library first!" he said with another grin. "Thanks," he said to him, taking his change and leaving with all of his bags.

"If you have a look around there are a lot of Biographies that could be of help. Or maybe if you look at the shelves over there, there are some interesting reads on magic for beginners, I'm sure there'll be something there for you" he answered. Kennedy nodded slowly. He was definitely new, but this guys didn't seem so taken aback by that...like others. He managed to keep his nerves down as he waited for the clerk to return with a book, that'll hopefully help him out.
He took the booked and looked it over. "Um, I-I've heard of it," he said, not quite answering his question, but it didn't matter because there were more books where he could do his research. "Thanks," he said, trully grateful. He shoved his hand inside his trouser pocket and searched for money. "H-How much do I owe you?" he asked.
