Equally as important as the ice cream flavour one chooses is the toppings that one puts upon it. A good topping or two can make or break a personal sundae, so once you've picked your poison flavour, the toppings bar is the next logical stop on the road to ice cream nirvana! The setup is rather impressive and can seem intimidating at first, but don't fret. This magical machine is easy enough to operate, given a moment and some patience.
A series of medium-sized glass tubes containing any topping one could dream of (and some nobody would dare to) hover precariously over a long, shiny tray that is inset into the countertop. At any given time this tray can be found with any myriad of missed toppings mixed together inside of it; the more adventurous customers sometimes choose to pick up the small scooper that can be found at its edge & scoop their toppings from those that did not land on someone else's ice cream. If you'd prefer to make your own choices, however, merely say your decided-upon topping or toppings to the machine, and it will release a small amount of it into the corkscrew spun glass chutes. Watch carefully and make sure to position your ice cream in the right place, because all of the chutes merge together into one to drop your tasting ice cream additives onto your bowl or cone!
The machine is magical and will clear itself of any topping residue between customers, so you needn't worry about getting sticky caramel sauce or the lingered tastes of meat chunks if the person before you made some decisions you don't agree with. However, if you should find that help is necessary, another tap bell can be found at the end of the counter to summon the shopkeeper or assistant.
the topping bar was both enemy and ally. one poor choice or misspoken word and you'd be having Beef and Beet Stew pouring all over your pineapple surprise sundae.
And that wasn't something Julie Bellaire was currently craving- no, she knew exactly how she wanted her three scoops of strawberries and cream ice cream topped. the Slytherin, who had come to Diagon Alley alone via knightbus, walked up to the topping bars tubes and shoots and placed her frozen treat just beneath the largest of them. "Fudge and caramelized pecans, please." She enunciated clearly, tugging on a long curl as the dark hot liquid sloshed out of the tubes, coating the ice cream completely in warm fudge only to be topped by a cascade of chopped caramelized pecans.
Julie, pleased already, grabbed her ice cream and eagerly stuck in her spoon for a taste. Sweet, crunchy, creamy and rich- it was just as she'd wanted. Sighing blissfully, her lips curved in the most peaceful of smiles, Julie took another big bite.

Listen, in times like these when all Théo has was some vanilla chocolate ice cream. You need to with 110 percent certainty put as many toppings on the ice cream that looked good. Then some weird ones to try and see if they're good. It wasn't his money buying the ice cream so go big or go home. Which really means leaving this place with the biggest brain freeze he has ever had.
So here Théo was loading up his ice cream with his favorites. oreo crumbs, fudge, strawberries and some sprinkles. Then he went for the random ones and he was done.
OH OH LOOK WHO IT WAS
Théo took a bite of his sundae before he even started talking.
"JUUULIE"
Oh this was actually good
Weird taste tho.

..... was that?
No, but the hair was..
Was it?
Julie squinted, licking her cone thoughtfully as she watched the boy before her scoop up as many random toppings as humanly possible (okay but that was pretty gross), the thing was- she was 99.9 percent sure that was Théo she was staring at except it couldn't be because his shoulders were suddenly very broad and his hair rivaled Ascanius Stark's.
No way had he changed /this much/ over the summer. No, it simply had to be someone else- but then he opened his mouth and there was suddenly no denying it.
"Théo!?" Julie coughed with surprise. Delicately, she covered her mouth. "I almost didn't-" No, that was weird she wasn't going to say she hadn't recognized him. "I didn't notice you, hey." excellent save, really, one of her bests.

Or overwhelmed. "Thank you."
Appropriate, yes?
She cut a glance at the selection of toppingws before them and then back at the girl. Then back at Flavia, her au pair, who waited outside. "I am not very sure what I want yet." Other than ice cream itself, that is. "I would like something that--if it falls on my clothes, it would be quick and easy to remove."b Her frown was mild, and she rubbed one hand to her forehead, as if trying to smooth it down. It almost worked. It was not polite to frown in proper company; not that Nerissa knew if the girl was proper company, but she looked like the type. All the blonde hair and manners; she was sure mama would call her 'proper.' Anyway, it was always good to be sure, just in case. "What would you recommend?"
She was a cutie, did she know? Zita smiled as the girl seemed nervous. There was nothing to feel nervous about, but Zita couldn't help but feel maybe her outfit or makeup was the reason. It had been on point today. Summer was good to her.
Get something that didn't mess the clothes up, this girl was smart. Zita glanced again at the topping. "Good point, though sometimes the best stuff is worth the risk of slopping and that is why I carry this that my mom charmed." She pulled the little pen looking thing out of her purse. "Just rub it on a stain and it's gone." Best thing ever!
"Well so far I have cookie dough and Oreos, but I'm looking at the gummy bears and possibly some fruit, but I'm not sure." There was just so much to pick from. "What flavor ice cream do you want? That will be the kicker on what toppings to get, because if you get something crazy for the ice cream and then load it with the wrong toppings it's going to make you regret your choices." No one wanted to do that.

"My name is Zita by the way, what's yours?"
Those were a lot of words, more than Nerissa was expecting, but then she had an inkling that people would continue to surprise her. It wasn't like she had enough experience, after all; perhaps this was how things were supposed to go. She linked both of her hands together in front of her, watched as the girl procurred a--pen? She blinked, slowly, curiousity glinting in her eyes as she leaned forward to have a better look.
She supposed that she shouldn't have thought, it's almost like magic. Plainly, it was magic. Just like she was. Just like--Zita was, too. "Do you know where I could get one of those?"
It would be life-changing. Not that Nerissa was supposed to buy things that were not part of her school supplies list. But neither was ice cream, and though it made her feel a little guilty, it wasn't enough to dissuade her of either. And what her parents could have now knowledge of, could not affect them--or her. And so. She glanced at the options for ice cream, reasoning that Zita was right. "pistachio, I think." She'd never had it, not that she'd had a lot of ice cream to begin with, of course. But her options were always chocolate or vanilla; ridiculous. "Mama says I look good in green, after all." This was not said as a brag, but as a fact, and one that Nerissa herself wasn't very sure she agreed with. But mama had presumably good style, and it was best to trust her with these things. "Do gummy bears go well with pistachio, do you think? Or marshmallows?"
Oh, she was meant to supply a name, too, of course. "Nerissa." She smiled, and after a pause, extended her hand the way she'd seen papa do before. "Please to make your acquaintance."

Wait, hold on, Théo spit out a bunch of toppings into his shirt. He should have got some napkins before attempting this. That was gross. Next time he will know not to add that combination. Hope he did not make this awkward already.
"Hey, its alright. i was focused on my ice cream and almost didn't notice you"
He took one more look down at it and well maybe he should have put less on it now that he thought about it again. Oh well.
"This summer has been crazy so far"
Well for him at least

She seemed to like her pen, though Zita wasn't surprised. She had many little gadgets that her mother would make for her. "I don't know if they are sold anywhere or not, but I could ask her to make you one." It probably wouldn't be hard and really this could be like Zita's first younger prodigy or something like that. She could just picture it around Hogwarts, wait was this girl going to Hogwarts? How old was she?
"How old are you?"
She eyed her trying to figure it out, but in any case, her mind started going back to what it could be like to have her there looking up to her and her friends and being her little prodigy.
Pistachio was a very interesting choice and Zit nodded a bit looking at the selections again. "I don't think I've ever had that one, but I would say gummy worms would be a good idea. I don't think I'd go for the hot fudge or even maybe the oreos with it though." Gummy and fruit might be better choices with this flavor. "I bet you look amazing in green." Zita could see it and she was good at this sort of thing, at least she felt she was.

Elisa had been feeling famished, but wasn't in the mood for something healthy. So where did that lead her? For some ice cream of course, it was good for the soul to those who could enjoy it. The thirteen-year-old had gotten herself a scoop of Cookies & Cauldron and plain Vanilla on top, which wasn't going to be plain anymore.
Hmm.. now which topping to choose? She wanted sprinkles, but that was too traditional and gummy bears. Hmm.. too childish, but it was good. Then there were the other choices. Elisa began to ponder on each one in the meantime.

Isley loved the toppings bar and it's magical capabilities...but for some reason it occasionally decided to get a mind of it's and decided to start spewing out toppings all over the store.
Today was apparently that day.
Isley was running around the bar trying to get it to stop pitting meat chunks and caramel across the room, all while the other toppings were exploding on their own out of the catch all tray. It was like a war of candy bits, and she couldn't get the thing to stop!
She was definitely going to either have to go back to the traditional non-magical toppings bar or get a professional in here to permanently fix this thing!
Oh, could someone just help her already?!

Javier had decided to stop by the ice cream shop on his way home from work and grab Cami some ice cream. No particular reason why - she was being super accommodating lately for a six year old, taking the changes of finding out she had a new uncle and cousin with amazing strides for such a young kid. Why DIDN'T his kid deserve ice cream, really?
The second he stepped foot into the store, however, he immediately regretted his decision. He nearly got pelted RIGHT IN THE EYE by some chocolate chips, and that wasn't the only thing flying around.
What in the name of MERLIN!?
"Arresto Momentum!" he exclaimed, pulling out his wand and giving it a wave. It wasn't going to fix whatever the cause of this candy rain of chaos was, but it would at least stop things from nearly giving him a corneal scratch.

Let's be real, here. There was no way at all Lexington O'Brien was going to walk by an Ice cream shop everyday and not give in quickly. Just like the sweets shop and the pet store, and the clothing store. Let's face it. Diagon Alley was basically temptation central and Lexi was not a strong-willed person.
At all.
So, here she was. Today her will broke on the way back to her shop after having lunch at the Leaky Cauldron with Tammers and the thought of ice cream to cap it off was just too tempting to resist.
"Er..." Perhaps she should have resisted a bit more. "This isn't something you say everyday. New experimental feature gone haywire?" Wouldn't be the first time Lexi had been apart of that. She hugged the door, just out of the path of flying toppings while trying to assess the situation. And nope...she got nothing.
"How can I...?" ...help?
With a sudden, rather commanding voice, the flying toppings froze in air. Huh, that was one way to do it. Lexi, honestly, had been so enraptured by the flying candy and other toppings she hadn't even noticed the dude standing next to her until his quick thinking.
"Well, that's one thing less to worry about. But how do we fix it? Anyway I can help?"

Emmalyn quickly moved from her seat at the booth in the back towards the chaos. The shopkeeper appeared to be trying to get things under control, but a large blob of caramel flung her way and landed in her hair. It looked as if there were topping flying every which way and some even exploding. "What's going on? How can I help?" She wasn't exactly sure what to do, but she had her wand out and was ready to follow any directions given. If she could take on a army of Inferi, she could certainly face off with crazed toppings.
She turned back towards her booth "Daisy! Come and help." Her friend was much better at wand work than she was, and even if magic wasn't necessary, an extra set of hands to help clean up would be nice.
When she turned back around, another man (Javier) was there to help. He had his wand out and was commanding the toppings to stop. He was quickly joined by another woman (Lexi)
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy moved towards where the various toppings were chaotically sprouting all over the place. She thought that she was going to have a relaxing holiday. "What do you need me to do?" she asked the shopkeeper, wand at the ready. She was contemplating using "Salvio Hexia" but decided to wait.

Isley had been trying to get everything under control on her own but was clearly failing when a gentleman came in and used the Velocity charm to get everything to stop, and it actually worked! She looked around and all of the different toppings that had been flying around in the air were suddenly stationary in the air. She turned to the gentleman, covered head to foot in all kinds of candies and syrups from the magical bar and said, "Hah...Why didn't I think of that! Thank you so much!" She would have shook his hand but....well...he probably didn't want to get sticky. "Your order is on the house sir! Just give me a few mi--," she was cut off mid sentence by a rumbling noise coming from the toppings bar.
"Oh, no." She whispered.

After the scary noise happened, Lexi came in, she was sure she looked awful at the moment but she didn't know what else to do. "Hey, Lexi. Not new...this was put in by the previous owner...but the last year or so it just goes crazy and starts spewing everything everywhere. Usually all I have to do is tap the top with my wand and say reset, and it goes back to normal, but this time...," She was almost in tears, "...it just wouldn't stop." Isley took a deep breath to calm her nerves. She really didn't need this right now.
A creaking sound started on top of the rumbling. "That's not good..."
SPOILER!!: Emmalyn & Daisy

Suddenly two young ladies standing next to her asking how they could help, and Isley quickly noticed the caramel in on of the girls hair. "Oh, no! Your hair! I'm so sorry!" She couldn't handle too much more of this!
But she took a deep breath and set her shoulders. She was a witch. She could handle this. She turned to the two young girls "I don't know what you can do at the moment. With the noises it's making...it might be about to blow. So stay where you are for right now and if there is anything I need I will let you know." She said with an appreciative smile.
Isley stalked forward towards the toppings bar when all of a sudden it started hissing out steam. Isley's got huge and her mouth dropped open. She turned and look at the others around her, "TAKE COVER!"
A few seconds later the toppings bar exploded! Cookies, gummy bears, chocolate chips, you name it, were spewing out in every direction covering everything around it. The walls, the ceiling...the people standing near by. Luckily the booths and tables weren't very close so no one over there was in the war path. The windows over the ice cream bar were covered, however. That was going to be interesting.
In a final spurt of caramel and chocolate syrup, the toppings bar shut down, a red light flashing 'Error' on the side. "Ya think." She said shaking her head at the machine. Isley, covered head too foot, looked like some sort of candy monster. She turned to look at the group around her, and sighed. "I...am so sorry."
What. A. Mess.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy's eyes widened as the toppings bar began to shake. She tried to take cover from the mess of toppings that were flying here and there. No such luck. She was covered head to toe with various toppings. She pointed her wand at herself and performed a quick cleaning charm. She was right as rain.
The fifteen-year-old turned towards Isley. "I am great with household spells. I'd be happy to help you clean up."
Lexi saw the tears welling in Isley's eyes -how could she not?- and started to close the distance to give the girl a comforting hug, when the creaking started. "Er...maybe we should step outside a moment, you know, just in case. I have a few potions that'll clean your hair," she looked at Isley and the two younger girls at that, "and leave it the silkiest its ever been for...er..." The machine hissed angrily, and Lexi didn't really need to be told to take cover.
She did however need to be told six months ago to work on her reaction time for this moment, because take cover she did not. No. Not even close to cover.
Well, she was covered in toppings now. That counts right?
"So this is what it's like to be ice cream?" Lexi picked a gummy bear off her shoulder and ate it. "Honestly, not bad. Oh, don't worry, Isley. I'll help clean up, and girls, mister, those potions I mentioned. On the house. Have some for the skin too. And we can talk to Tori in Malkin's. I'm sure she has stuff to get our clothes spotless!"
Emmalyn nodded and moved next to Daisy's side just in time for the entire toppings bar to start to rumble, shake, then explode. She didn't get down fast enough, though she would have been covered either way.
Once it appeared to be safe to speak, Emmalyn started "That was the coolest thing ever!" She looked at Daisy, who was also in direct line of fire, and gave her the biggest smile. "We are covered in toppings!" She was. Almost head to toe covered in various creams, sauces, jimmies, and candies. It was the best day ever. What she wanted to do more than anything that very moment was to lick the toppings off her arms.
"Yes ma'am. I can help clean too. I'm good at cleaning up messes. Mostly because I'm usually the one that makes them. Although, not quite this big, or tasty." she replied to Lexi. Then she noticed that the poor shopkeeper didn't look as happy as she was and Emmalyn suddenly felt bad for the lady. "Don't worry, ma'am. Daisy and I can get this cleaned up for you. We are a good team."
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy smirked to herself at Emmalyn's delight at becoming a life-sized dessert. She then looked up and saw just how emotional the Florean Fortescue's shopkeeper was and offered another suggestion. "I understand the machine is magical but maybe I could help you fix it with the same mindset as a Muggle would have when it comes to repairing broken machinery. I mean, are there any mechanical parts such as cogs? If not, maybe a series of repairing charms might help."

See, no harm.
Before Isley could respond to Lexi the entirety of the toppings were all over them...
With that comment, Isley gave a chuckle. "I guess it must be." She said laughing harder as Lexi picked a gummy bear off of her shoulder and ate it. One must find laughter in a difficult situation. She definitely owed these four for helping her. "Thank you Lexi. I appreciate the help...and I'll probably be by later to pick up some of those potions." She said with a grin, as another chuckle tried to escape her.
Merlin...what a fiasco.

The fifteen-year-old turned towards Isley. "I am great with household spells. I'd be happy to help you clean up."

I mean, are there any mechanical parts such as cogs? If not, maybe a series of repairing charms might help."
Really, Daisy was a bit out of ideas.
Isley sighed and a small smile reached it's way to her lips. It seemed the young ladies were enjoying being covered in toppings as much as Lexi was. Happy surprise entered her eyes at their offers of help. "Oh, would you girls? That would be so wonderful. Thank you. I owe you big time." She hoped they realized how appreciated their offer to help her clean up the mess was.
"Alright then, you two go ahead and start cleaning the mess on the ground and I will do the ceiling. Oh, and what were your names again?" She asked. She wanted to make sure she know so the gift she planned to give them had their names on it.
Isley listened as the one she thought was called Daisy spoke. She nodded with a gentle smile. "That is much appreciated, but this machine is so old...I am afraid I may need to purchase a new one. But thank you for offering to help." She was going to pat the girl on the shoulder and remembered she was still covered in toppings.
She shook her head at herself, and did a quick cleaning spell to get all of the gunk off of her. Her hair was definitely still a little sticky...but that was what Lexi's potions were for.

"Sure! I'll start right now." She grabbed a rag that was near by to start mopping up the big chunks. Her spell work still wasn't the best, so she figure it would be safest for her to pile the chunks and Daisy could use magic to finish the job.
"I'm Emmalyn Walsh. 3rd year Hufflepuff at Hogwarts." She had to add that last bit. She was a 3rd year. In just a few months, she would officially be half way through her time at Hogwarts. It was a big deal. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss?" She couldn't remember if the shopkeeper told her her name or not. Even if she had, she'd probably would have forgotten it after the toppingsplosion.
She continued to clean as Isley spoke with Daisy, wondering a little bit what the plans were for the broken machine. It would make a neat project to try and get it running again. If only she had a place to work on it, she would ask to keep it. It also made her think of the project she started the previous year, trying to make and sell chocolates at Hogwarts. It had sort of fizzled out, but she could try again.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

"My name's Daisy Swann and I'm a Fifth Year Hufflepuff," Daisy answered as she aimed her wand at the topping covered floor and began to perform a series of non-verbal cleaning spells.
When Isley mentioned the machine, Daisy nodded and said, "Maybe replacing it would be the best thing to do if it is old."

"Thank you so much." Isley said with a small smile. She didn't know what she would have done had no one come in to help her. She was so grateful she could cry, but now was not the time for that.
"So nice to meet you Emmalyn." She said with a nod as she moved her wand over the ceiling trying to clean things up. It was proving a little harder than she expected. This would be a slow process. "Tydings. My name is Isley Tydings, owner and shopkeeper." She said with a grin. "And the Pleasure is all mine." She gave the girl a wink.
She was so glad that the worst everyone got was covered in ice cream toppings. it could have been a lot worse. She was definitely going to have to buy a new Toppings bar...

"So good to meet you Daisy. I'm Isley Tydings." She watched in awe as the older girl was already using non-verbal spells! She must be a very talented witch. She hadn't mastered those until sixth year.
"I think it will be. It's a very old machine and has been slowly breaking down since I took over the shop." Isley said shaking her head at a particularly hard to remove piece of cookie dough stuck to the ceiling. "I can't thank you girls enough for helping me clean up." She was so glad to have the help and was sure they would much rather be shopping than cleaning up this mess.

A few quick cleaning spells got most of the topping off of her, the deeper stuff, she'd need potions for, and the clothes, well, Victoria will have to work so magic there. Get it? Work some magic....nevermind. "There, now I shouldn't track anything into my shop while I run over there really quick. I shall return!" Lexi spun and disappeared out the door. She needed to adjust her "back in _ minutes" sign to account for helping Isley clean up, and while there grab skin and hair cleansing potions for everyone.
Lexi was back a few minutes later with a Madame Primpernelle's shop bag filled with potions. Those will be given out after the mess was clean. No sense giving them out just yet. "You girls really are angels for sticking around to help," Lexi said as she pulled out her wand and silently cleared away a large blobby gathering of hard coated chocolate candy, gummy bears, and cookie dough. Lexi had a feeling Isley was getting their names so she could show her appreciation, but that didn't mean Lexi couldn't show her own as well. The girl's were helping out a friend and fellow shopkeeper after all.
Next time you girls come into Madame Primpernelle's I'll let you both have a potion of your choice free."
Lexi waved her wand again, vanishing a glob of...well, something. Without it the surrounding globs seemed to combine to form... "Huh. Anyone else seeing Merlin in this section here?" Because she definitely was.

"It is nice to meet you officially, Isley. Can I call you by your first name? I am very happy to help a much-loved business. I always love coming here during the Summer holidays."

Daisy beamed and turned to look at Lexi. "It is no trouble at all and thank you so much for the free potion offer."
She continued working with Daisy to clean up the sticky mess, still covered in toppings herself. She was actually having a good time. It felt good to do something helpful and productive and she always loved serving others. "Miss Isley it is." Her caramel covered smile was bright and a few chunks of candy fell from her hair, which made her giggle. "Would you be willing to use your cleaning spell and take care of my clothes? I'm still a bit nervous about using spells on myself."
When Lexi mentioned the potions, she shook her head. "That isn't necessary. I'd love to come and visit your shop, but you don't need to give me anything." Helping is what you were supposed to do. No payment or reward was needed. "And, yes, I do see Merlin!" She giggled again and thought about how much fun a charms class would be if they messed up the class with caramel and chocolate sauce, making drawings of various famous wizards and witches, then practiced their cleaning charms. Sort of like cloud watching, but much sweeter!
