| | The Spiny Serpent The vases out front are only a hint of what you’ll find inside the Spiny Serpent. As you pass through the doorway a buzzer that howls like a banshee goes off, announcing your presence to the shopkeeper and the denizens of The Spiny Serpent. The store is split between flora and fauna; sentient plants, magical plants, dangerous plants, semi-illegal plants, can all be found here. Likewise any dangerous or dark creature you have a hankering for can be found within the walls of the shop.
If there is a creature you'd fancy but can't quite be bothered with applying for the appropriate permits, you've come to the right place. Need guides for breeding magical plants or creatures? You'll find those here too, plus everything you'll need in your, shall we say, creative endeavors.
Anything that you can’t see on the shelves in front of you can still be found... for the right price, so go ahead and place an order if you dare, just remember you didn’t get it from here.
Return to Knockturn Alley when you're done, and check out the other shops on the upper level...

| Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite It took only another moment to decide the man was browsing through the shop that looked like it'd seen a storm. Naturally she expected it cleaned by the end of the business day, regardless of the reason behind it in the first place so for now Emma overlooked the rubble...and she was beginning to lose interest in the man as well.
Should she change her mind about sticking around, the woman would ask Korpsit to keep an eye him. He didn't look like a danger to himself but some people were good at masking that short of thing.
Eventually he did speak...about a fly infestation but that didn't coax any words from her, Emma simply carried on the stare. It was the indifferent sort of look, one that warned she didn't particularly care. Perhaps she should have signalled for the shopkeep afterall.
That way at least there would be someone who cared for the man's woes.

That way at least there would be someone who cared for the man's woes. There was someone about. That much Mathis was sure of. It was the feeling of being watched and observed. He didn't mind. Whoever they were, they could watch all they wanted.
He turned slowly, his gaze moving ever so slightly up each time he completed a full circle. "You see, my landlord seems to have decided to extract some overdue dues from a floormate, this time last week." Shoes came into his vision, among the plants and wreckage. Nice shoes.
"Didn't seem inclined to clean up after himself though, so I've got a bit of a stink creeping under my door." The shoes had now become legs, a woman's legs, and the damage was the lesser of his interests the higher he raised his eyes.
"So, I thought I'd stop by and see if you had any of any thing that could help." Raising one hand, he made a munching motion with his fingers. For the bugs. For whatever. "You used to have fly traps..." A frown twitched at his lips as the last bit of wreckage disappeared from his line of sight. "Or perhaps..."
He stopped his turning and faced the woman watching him, the thin, soft smile pressing firmly into place as his eyes locked with hers. She held herself like a woman that would know things, that had intelligence. What luck he had. "There might be a residency opportunity here."

| Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite Despite her lack of displayed interest, the man went on to explain what his problem was. Again, she wasn't a Herbologist, she didn't dabble in the trade, merely benefited from the fruits of others' labour.
In truth it was an intriguing tease, leaving out the details that might have most interested her but if he wouldn't say then she wouldn't ask. The landlord had an itch and he scratched it. That was the way the world worked. The mention of flies and a certain smell added to the man's lack of inclination to 'clean up' gave her all the information she needed. Work gave her the imagination to flesh it out. "Pity." That was all she cared to say on that matter.
Ah so there was a point to him sharing afterall. "You'll have to take that up with the shopkeep. I can't tell you from the top of my head what he might currently have in his inventory, especially not in this mess." It wasn't a habit of hers to take shop lists with her when it wasn't collection day. That was messy.
Where he smiled, she only scowled. "No." The 'perhaps' had sounded promising until he mentioned residency. "You want a place to stay, they're rooms up in Diagon Alley." He must have been lost. They did not offer rooms and certainly not to strangers who haven't proven their worth.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Amur Neverwinter Fourth Year | ~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~ Pity? Sort of, but not really. "Bloke was a nit." Had it coming to him.
What was a pity was that she didn't know of a mulcher. His hand dropped and his shoulders shrugged up, in opposite reflex. All just as well. Now that said landlord had got bolder, it was probably for the betterment of his own health that he forgot the plant and pursued other means.
Like the one that had got her scowling. The one that made his smile press into a thinner line. The no.
"No. Just like that? Double pity." He scratched the side of his jaw, his cheek and then tugged on his ear as he tipped his head to consider the woman. Diagon? Diagon Alley. Laughable. Absolutely laughable.
Mathis let his attention drift to broken pieces here and there, his eyes skittering from one thing to another. It was almost a compulsion to follow where his eyes went, moving him forward step by step and towards the woman at a languid pace. "No?....no.....hn."
It was only when he was a few paces from her that his attention finally resettled on her and he stopped. "No...chance of a bargain or a deal?"

| Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite Had the word 'no' changed its meaning in the last half hour or so? Did it suddenly mean 'maybe' or 'possibly, for the right price'? Emma's piercing gaze locked on the man, her expression warning that she didn't have the patience to lay this out for him as if he was a child. "No."
As in...not maybe...not probably, but simply, "No." And in case he didn't get it the millionth time. "No."
The woman crossed her arms and gave him a moment to let the words sink in. "It's a shame your landlord ruined your atmosphere or whatever and it's a shame you've got flies buzzing around spreading disease but we don't have residences down here. Knockturn Alley isn't meant to be resided in. You come, do business, then leave.'
His business right now was plant purchasing, anything outside of that would need to be explicitly stated or otherwise hinted at in such a way that everything was clear.
A place to stay was not clear--not for him who obviously didn't know this wasn't how the alley worked. "If you want somewhere to stay and you already have it in mind, you might be able to stop by the Kwik Repair shop, see if the Goblin can't make it happen." For the right price, of course.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Amur Neverwinter Fourth Year | ~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~ "No." Mathis repeated in a sigh. That was a definitely definite no.
Triple pity. He had hoped, and that in and of itself was a rather rare thing. Then again, it was tested and tried that the realization of hope was consistently a thing unfulfilled, so he wasn't entirely sure why he was bothered by it. "Appreciate the sympathy." His eyes drifted around again, first over the woman, taking in her clothes, her hair, even how her nails were kept. "So, you're not much of a family-based business then." His smile came back easy as his gaze slipped behind her, at the wares and items that were kept behind the counter. No. "Still," No. No. "Maybe a one-sided bargain would be best." No. No....
From the corner of his eye, he saw it. A spindly thing, sitting on the corner of the lower shelf just off to his side. With an excited clap of his hands, he mosied over to it and plucked it up. The Venus fly trap seemed to be in good shape, if a little under-watered and underfeed. No worries on that though, he had plenty of food waiting for it. No....
A dark chuckle left him at the woman's words, his eyes returning to her slowly from under lowered brows. "Dear, if I wanted something like that, I would not need a goblin to do it for me."

| Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite Look at that, the word was finally beginning to sink in. All it took was a little persistence on her part.
The comment about the family business was completely ignored. If he was trying to be funny, it didn't work. Life working with Peverell had drained her of any sense of humour that she already didn't possess. Her grunt was response enough before her brows rose. "What kind of bargain?" One sided was a bit curious but Emma would give him the benefit of the doubt that the side which benefited would be hers, otherwise, why would he even suggest it?
The woman watched him with a level of detached interest as he seemed to find what he'd been looking for. Was that it for him then? If so she could finally summon the shopkeeper and he could be on his way before he thought up any other brilliant ideas.
And then he did that. Emma found her scowl deepening. "Don't call me that." She'd removed tongues for less but outside of wanting to live here, this one wasn't nearly as irksome as the others. "I suggest you take that route. Find someone no longer in need of their house and make it yours." With that his problem would be solved wonderfully.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Amur Neverwinter Fourth Year | ~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~ Tough nut. Hard egg. Brittle bones. Spittle in the cornflakes. Whatever the woman's reason was for being so uptight, Mathis wasn't going to ask. Truth be told, he didn't much mind.
Stroking one of the leaves of the flytrap, he considered the near teeth like structures on the flower head. "Only got one trap in stock though."
And two bodies. Moving might have to wait. Unless they had something else. Or he could use this plant for his own personal preferences. But then it would look suspicious, if he just moved, and there was a body left behind. Of course it wasn't his, not this time, but that wouldn't stop them from assuming. Landlord good, running tenant bad. Idiots from assumptions. Always filthy idiots. And yet, they claimed to be so clean.
Mathis snorted in distaste as he let the leaf go, making his way back over to the woman. His eyes darted around the shop again before settling on her, on the ends of her hair. "A beneficial bargain." She sounded interested, less likely to deliver an immediate 'no'. "I'm looking for work."
Would that make it a quadruple pity? He sucked in his bottom lip and chewed on it momentarily as his eyes skittered to one of her ears and then the other. "With, or without pay."
Needed to keep from being bored. Wanted to build up his references. Gain valuable experience. Try a new career pathway. She could pick whatever reason she wanted. He was good at what he did, but there were few out there who cared for such services. And he didn't advertise often. It was dangerous to do so.

| Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite Who had one trap in stock? Emma gazed at the man as if he were confused. The plant was not a particularly rare one. To have only one in stock would be negligent. "If you're referring to this shop, there are more over there." And a nod in the direction of the far corner. Nothing was where it should have been and the lack of organization was wearing her thin with this place.
She wouldn't be staying here much longer.
There was one thing she found curious about the man; the fact his eyes went everywhere. Was he anxious about something? Normally she wouldn't care but it could spell trouble for the Alley--more trouble than it was used to at any rate.
Might have asked what got his knickers so far wound in a jittery knot but then he spoke of work, unpaid work, and it got her even more suspicious of the bloke. "Anything to get into Knockturn Alley, huh?" She mused, giving him a head to toe run over before shrugging. "We're not hiring, not that I know of," And she ran the business aspect of the alley for the most part, "but if you're that eager, have a chat with Peverell. He might find some use for you somewhere."
Merlin knew the man insisted on finding use in EVERYTHING.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Amur Neverwinter Fourth Year | ~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~ More?
Mathis's eyes darted up to meet her eyes briefly, before following her line of gesture. He took a step back, peered and then smiled softly. Indeed. There were more. This one just seemed to be the odd-ball out. He took to stroking it's leaf again. "I see. Thank you." A few more strokes as his eyes bounced between the two plants. "I'll feed this one first though."
And then he'd see. Then he'd figure out. And he was waiting for that 'yes' or 'no'. If there was a 'yes' then maybe he would get another one, soon. For now, he wanted to devote his attention to this one. Spindly little thing.
His eyes darted back to her, this time catching on the corners of her lips and the pull of her eyebrows. Anything? No. Definitely not. For instance, his toes. He liked them. He would not give them. A finger, maybe. An arm or a leg, dependent. But anything. No. There were other alleys. Other hives of wizards like her, like him. He could try elsewhere if she wasn't willing to let him in. He could try other things...
While there was some disappointment, it was minor. It hadn't been a flat out 'no' and the weight of consideration was still there. And there was a 'but'. He quite liked 'buts'. Always something interesting tagged onto them. "Peverell." The name rolled off his tongue curiously. A use for him? Well, anyone could find a use for anyone, but there was something about the way she said it that indicated this was a different type of use. Or different type of man. Either way, it didn't matter to him. He was looking to be useful. "Where can I find him?" His eyes skipped down her, to her shoes and then up, finally meeting her gaze. "And who can I tell him sent me?" Dear was out of the question. She had made that plain.

| Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite He'd be taking the one? Must not be such a big job afterall. Even more reason for her to not be interested. Anything that needed only one fly trap couldn't have been that spectacular now could it?
Emma simply nodded at his decision, positive it didn't affect her even a little. It was all the same to her really.
And if they were quite done with this...conversation of sorts, she would be taking her leave. Should the man really want to find work for himself he'd make inquiries--like that. The woman paused at the door because the man DID want more information. "You can find him in the pub usually, trying to engage others in his maniac stories."
Did she want to give a name though....? No. "Don't need a send off, just explain your interest and he'll find you work." And if they were quite finished, Emma would be leaving him to his business. There were other shops that needed checking.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Amur Neverwinter Fourth Year | ~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~ Mathis' lips curled up a little at the mention of maniac stories. So perhaps it was more about the man, than the use. Then again, wasn't it usually?
He wrapped both his arms around the pot of the plant and rested his chin on the air above its leaves. Maniac stories at the pub. By any step, it would prove an interesting endeavor, and he was sure he could make something come out of it, with someone. Might need another plant after all. Might need to come back.
He nodded his understanding curtly, watching the ends of her hair sway as she moved, like some silent dance to the dangerous tune that wafted around her. "Understood. Thank you."
No sense in being so rude. Especially not to one so knowledgeable and helpful. Mathis watched her for a long moment, thoughts pricking at the corners of his mind, knocking but not yet to be let in. Later. He would get to those later.

Sleater's eyes studied the objects around him as he made his way to the center. "Hello?" He called, clearing his throat to sound more confident. "Can I get some service here?" It was a simple enough job; get the merchandise, sell the merchandise, make a profit, give a payout, continue to live peacefully. How hard was that? Honestly? All the man needed to do was ensure that at the end of the day every galleon was accounted for and every item that wasn't sold was still either in storage or on the shelves. Emma stood imposingly over the shopkeeper, waiting for him to arrive by the correct tally. If even one pod was missing, he'd pay for it with an appendage.
The muffled called from within the shop brought solid brown eyes up and glancing through the door leading into that room. It wasn't uncommon to have customers at this time of the evening, but by far the majority of visitors around this time usually ended up in the pub. "Don't move, I'll handle this." She instructed the man, giving her most severe look when she saw the relief spread across his face. If he thought for a second that this distraction would take the heat off him, he had another think coming.
Arms folded, the woman made her way behind the counter, giving the visitor a once over. A new one by the looks of it. One that didn't seem to belong. "What?"

He stooped as to tie his shoe, placing a hand on the floor in hopes of receiving images. "Why make this harder than this has to be?" The American straightened himself back up, turning back towards her. "We both know you want to close up and go home." His arm rose to point towards the back. "And we both know you have animals in the back." His hands made their way back to his pockets. "So let's cut the chitchat, yeah?" His confidence had risen, but not too much.

His confidence had risen, but not too much. "Circe." It was just her luck. "You're as ignorant as you are ugly." The woman watched him stoop, more to ensure he didn't swipe something from the shelf than any actual interest in him otherwise. Only so many things would go missing in one day before she started making things...more specifically people, vanish. "Whether I want to close is none of your concern." And it had very little to do with her. She didn't run this shop, she paid someone else to. It closed when they said it did.
Emma made her way around the counter, coming to a stop before him and leaning against the surface. "I'm in an exceedingly forgiving mood today and will pretend you aren't wearing my patience. It's easy to be a little hard of hearing when you're in a new, strange, intimidating environment." Her voice was low, but firm and steady. "You've confused your flora and fauna. I'll tell you one more time that this is a plant shop, then we'll try your approach." Cutting the chit chat was an excellent idea and the woman was already thinking of several ways in which to do so.

Sleater locked his eyes on her as she made her way close to him. He slid his wand to the palm of his hand as a cautionary. His other hand pulled out a small pouch. "How many galleons will it take for you to tell me where I can find them?" Oh my merlin, he was internally sweating so much. Mama, I love you.

Emma gave little in the way of acknowledgement to the wand that slid into his palm. A sign of a guilty conscience, or maybe someone who didn't quite know how this place worked.
When you went drawing your wand at every little incident, you quickly became a target. "I don't have any eggs, and you don't have anymore chances." The words gave little in the way of explanation, but she was done talking. He was as thick headed as the children she sometimes found herself chasing out of the alley--the ones she didn't have the goblin keep anyway. Did she want to keep him?
The boy might have fetched a decent price...most of him anyway. The ears were nice.

The goblin waited silently in the dimly lit corner. Korpsit had followed Trevelyan into the shop as he always did, and waited dutifully for her to be done her collections. The fact it was taking much longer today didn't bother him, nor did the visitor until he began asking obvious questions.
The goblin nearly jumped forward at the sight of the wand but knew this was not his cue. He would wait. Emma could and often did handle things herself.
The creature sneered. He'd finally run out of chances? Good.
Korpsit reached forward, hardening his nails before unceremoniously jamming them into the back of his leg. He dug in as far as he could before swiftly ripping his hand away from the flesh and plunging it into the other leg.

The boy might have fetched a decent price...most of him anyway. The ears were nice. Ironically enough, he had given up at that point. He would've left after the final no, but it seemed the twenty year old pushed it one step too far.
A sharp pain caused him to cry out, the pouch of galleons scattering on the floor. His eyes wildly sought out the source, catching the glance of the goblin digging into his leg.
The second hit made him collapse forward, grabbing onto the witch's wrists. He was hit with a wave of flashes of memories and emotions, blinding him from reacting to save his life.

The second hit made him collapse forward, grabbing onto the witch's wrists. He was hit with a wave of flashes of memories and emotions, blinding him from reacting to save his life. On cue, as always, the goblin took care of an itch that was beginning to irritate her. If she were the type, he may have received praise for it, but the woman simply stood there staring as the young man fell to the floor.
A fire flared in her eyes when his hand latched on to her. "Get the hell off me." She commanded, a gash swiftly appearing by the wrist bone as a means of encouraging release. It was a simple wandless, severing charm, one she'd hardly applied but if he insisted on holding on, he would find himself short of a hand and korpsit would be another body part richer.
Emma grabbed a fistful of his hair, forcing his head up so he could look at her. "There are no dragon eggs here." She repeated in a chilled whisper. "There won't be dragon eggs here tomorrow. The Hag's already made her stew so I'll let you live. I don't care how the hell you do it but get out of my shop."

This filthy wizard had gotten blood on his hands. Korpsit grabbed hold of his shirt, just as Emma took hold of his hair, and began to wipe it all away.
The crimson liquid on the floor would be taken care of in time, but this one was the priority. Once again he'd been cautioned to leave. It remained to be seen whether he would listen or not.
He supposed it might have been difficult, given the goblin had torn into the muscle but this was a problem for the man to sort out.

Lawrence Hufflepuff Fifth Year | Rucole Club Club|| film lyfe || mac and cheese queen|| *exits with trunkshot* Well, that certainly brought him back to his senses. The slash on his wrist burned as he keeled over on the floor grasping it. He felt her pull his head up. Sleater breathlessly kept on his eyes on her, his jeans growing heavy with the weight of the blood pooling from the cuts.
It was no doubt that Sleater Sereika was not a hero and less did he feel like one right now. He could already imagine what'd it be if Alexa was here. She'd gracefully blow by this witch and find out for herself if the eggs were here or not. He could see it, like a ghostly memory.
...but he wasn't Alexa. He wasn't MLE. He wasn't a hero. He was a muggleborn ministry worker.
Still, he couldn't leave without getting a piece himself. He was definitely going to regret this later.
If he survived.
Stiffly, he reached for his wand on the ground, putting weight on one knee as to get up. Of course, there was no way in heck that he was going to be able to get up, but he feigned it anyway, sucking air through his teeth. He dropped back, obviously not being able to get up, but he had his wand pointed towards the floor. Oh my god, he was going to regret this. "Deprimo."
