| | South Side of the Street The south end of the street begins at the playground and stretches on to reveal Gringotts Wizarding Bank and a variety of shops and businesses that will suit the needs of just about any witch or wizard. A mixture of smells, from the coffee at Espresso Patronum to the potions at Madam Primpernelle's, fill the air. Both the young and the young at heart can stock up on items ranging from a new wand to an assortment of magical items that have seen better days. There's even a joke shop for those of you out for a good laugh. I'd think wisely about my choices or words and actions, though! Its cobblestones may be chipped or dusty from excessive wear over the years of being trampled on by many thousands of feet. Large glass windows grab your attention with various signs and merchandise, in attempts to lure you into those shops and spend more money you may or may not have.
Outside several shops are park benches, perfect for a quick chat or rest of your feet. But don't sit too long - these spots are high in demand and you may run the risk of being sat on or someone tripping over your feet. Not to mention that the rubbish bin next to the bench near Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes wreaks of various stenches of items that have been tossed away. Shame because if they hadn't absorbed the smells, one man's junk might become another man's treasure.

He regretted it almost instantly, this boy would have no idea why his dad did the things he did. "It's your final year?" Blake added at the boys comment, no wonder he looked huge ... at least in comparison to an eleven year old boy. "Not sure about the house, I feel like I have qualities of all of them." Blake was thinking of his loyalty to his friends in primary school, his courage to take on the bullies, his high marks in all his classes ... and... "Well maybe not Slytherin" he added ... but then again, didn't he manipulate his way into staying with his dad whilst attending Hogwarts? "What house are you in?"
Why had his father not mentioned that they were not going to Hogwarts upcoming term? Dorian couldn't answer this. He had only met Blake just now and he knew nothing about him or his family. Perhaps he had a bad relationship with them or maybe his father had not found the right time to mention this. But one thing that was bothering him, was that he had been the one who had to tell him. "I think he was trying to find the right time to tell you" he said slowly. "Mmmhmm" Dorian nodded his head as he listened to the soon to be first years. It was understandable that he did not know yet which House he would be in. But there was a positive aspect to that. It meant they wouldn't be dissapointed. He had met a handful of first year students who had not accepted their House when the sorting hat had shouted it because they felt like they belonged somewhere else. Identity crisis probably. Luckily for him he had always thought he would be in Ravenclaw and he got in to it. "I think that every House has their own positive and negative traits and that not one is the best.
....Except for Ravenclaw which is my House" he joked and let out a laugh. "If you need any help at school don't hesitate to ask me , okay?" he said. And he wasn't just saying that because it was his job as Head Boy to help out.

Blake added like he needed to defend himself. " Since my mom is a muggle, she made me go to primary school in the muggle world, she didn't really want me to get an acceptance letter to be honest." Blake explained further. Jeepers, he couldn't seem to keep his mouth shut around this boy. Must be his calming presence Blake thought. "Any thoughts on what you want to do AFTER school?" Blake put an emphasis on the word after... not sure why. "I mean is there even anything to do besides work at the Ministry?" Blake wasn't sure what adult wizards actually did, not having lived with his dad.

Blake wasn't sure what adult wizards actually did, not having lived with his dad. "Getting high marks doesn't automatically make you a Ravenclaw though" Dorian said. "There are a lot of Ravenclaws who's grades are average at best" He had been one of those students before he had decided to work on his short attention span and paid attention in classes. "But if you do get in to Ravenclaw you'd be an excellent addition to the team"
While he listened to Blake talk about his mother having send him to a muggle primary school, he turned his bag around and put a hand inside of it. He rummaged through it before he got to the package he needed and took out a liquorice wand. He had been eating these a lot lately. "She probably wanted to spend more time with you" he said and while he did listen to him, he prefered not to say too much. He didn't feel comfortable talking about other peoples families. Especially the onces he did not know so instead, he put the liquorice wand in his mouth and grabbed a second one and held it up for Blake to grab. "Want one?"
Had he asked this question when Dorian had been in his fifth year he would have gotten a mental breakdown. While everyone around him had clear goals for the future, he had had no clue on what he wanted to do after school. His Head of House had been a huge part in selecting his career path and although it had taken another year to figure out, he had finally found his calling. "I have my mind set on working at St'Mungo's" he answered. "I want to become a Mediwizard but i don't know yet if i want to be stationed inside the hospital or be a field Mediwizard." Attending Quidditch matches and healing the wounded during the match was one of the examples of a field Mediwizard. "But before i can work there i want to further my education and graduate from one of the Wizarding Universities majoring in Pre-Healer studies." It was funny how a few years ago he had no clue what he wanted to do and now he had a clear goal.

Tom couldn't believe it, seriously, he was dreaming when he got the letter to say he had been accepted to this school of magic, he was thinking about all the tricks he could learn, like how to pull a rabbit out of a hat, or how to stop the water from falling, that was the sort of school he was going to right. Well apparently from what he was seeing in the street he might be wrong, there were funny people with weird hats and robes and well to tell you the truth he couldn't decide if he wanted to wear robes like that or not, everyone would laugh at him.
Tom thought a little bit harder, he couldn't remember seeing anyone wearing anything like this, surely if he had he would have remembered it and him and all his friends would have been laughing about it for days, he now though had to try and find his way around this place, it was huge and he had already lost his way.

After leaving Ewan for he had to get back to his family, Minjae was walking through the south side of the street with his hands holding a bag on each side. His father's expensive sunglasses still safely resting on the bridge of his nose. The weather was nice enough and he honestly did not want to get back to London. The stores weren't even closing yet.
Deciding to stay and that his chauffeur could wait a little longer, the Hufflepuff swung the bags back and forth as he looked around. Spotting a kid seemingly to walk around without aim, Minjae looked to see if he was with anyone before he moved towards him. "You're lost, aren't you" it was pretty obvious.

"Oh me, well I'm new to all this and to tell you the truth I keep thinking I'm going to wake up from a dream any second now." Tom replied truthfully.
Tom closed his eyes for a few seconds before he opened them again, but alas the kid was still there and he was still in the same spot as before. "Okay, yes I'm lost." Tom rummaged through his pocket for his letter. "You see, I got this letter and then I came here to get all this." He pointed to the letter. "And well I lost my parents and now I have no idea where any of this stuff is." He finally stopped talking and took a deep breath.

That this kid thought that he was dreaming was something that Minjae could relate to. Being a muggleborn himself, Minjae had always been afraid that everything he was seeing in the wizarding world was just a dream and that he would wake up. But that was three years ago and he was pretty sure it was all real.
He laughed a little as he watched him close his eyes and opened them a few seconds later as if he was trying to find out if he was real or not. "What would you do if you actually are dreaming and wake up in bed soon?" he asked as he looked at the school supply letter they all had received during the summer. "Did you buy a wand at Ollivanders yet?" he asked. "That's the most important thing. Oh! and a buy a pet" the books and other supplies were just extra things in his opinion.

"Well the first thing I would do, is go and get loads of ice-cream and then I would ring up a friend and tell him all about this crazy dream I've had." Tom would totally love to tell all his friends about this, but he had been told he wasn't allowed.
Tom looked down at the list. "Nope, I got books." He pointed to the bag of books. "But that's it." Tom wasn't sure how he had managed to get the books without getting lost but he had some how. "Oh, what pets are we allowed?" Tom couldn't wait to get a pet, he'd always wanted one but his parents had always said no.

She needed one thing and one thing only and was not going to be led astray by all the shiny purchasable things here. Little Ezra Upstead, aged ten and a half almost exactly, had managed to get himself hopelessly separated from his father somewhere along the busy wizarding street. (Was it actually busy? Ezra would say so; anywhere containing more than one person per square decametre was definitely too active in his eyes, and there had been a sudden bustling group of shoppers, which was how come they'd managed to get split up in the first place.)
Gripping the hem of his parka in his tightly clenched fists, Ezra was trying his absolute hardest not to burst into tears, but only because he knew that once he did, he'd get so carried away with it that he wouldn't be able to think straight enough to find his dad again. And then he'd be lost and then a hoard of Acromantula would appear and eat him and digest him and nobody would save him and everyone would forget he ever even existed.
The thought made a jolt of panic shoot through him, and Ezra knew he needed to find his dad right now. He was vaguely aware that they had a whole family protocol of what to do if this sort of thing happened, but in his fear it had been swept clean from his mind. Swallowing a whimper, he turned and started to flee back in the direction he'd just wandered from... only to run right smack bang into some old lady, immediately losing his balance and falling onto his behind with a surprised, "Oof."

As she began marching down the street, Anastasia was quite literally struck by how bright it was for a December day, and hastily rooted around in her handbag for a pair of her husband's prescription stunna shades. She shoved the dark sunglasses on her face and huffed to herself about how inconvenient all these cobblestones were, particularly for one with fashion-forward heels like herself. Fortunately, she knew these streets well, because her shades were so dark she could hardly see where she was walking now.
She was about to turn into a shop when she was suddenly, rudely, hit in the midsection as though she were on the rugby field. "What in Merlin's--- the redhead began to swear, catching herself on the wall beside her, and looking down at the bowling ball of a person that had even managed to knock her sunglasses askew. "Heavens!" It was a child! One with the haircut of a pudding bowl. What an awful, untidy thing.
"Don't bother asking if I'm alright," Annie snapped at the messy, disheveled child as she pulled herself together. She dusted off her trenchcoat as though the child's grubby hands had left marks on it, fluffed back her hair, and tugged her purse onto her shoulder again. Then she adjusted her sunglasses so that she was looking down her upturned nose at the boy. "Watch where you're going, heathen."

For a moment, due to a combination of both his mild alarm and his sudden rendezvous with the ground, Ezra wasn't entirely sure exactly what was happening. He blinked, looked down at himself - both arms and legs intact, eight fingers and two thumbs, all accounted for - and then up at the lady, looking at her hair rather than directly into her face
He blinked again. "Okay," Ezra said, as awareness came back to him, and he clambered back to his feet. That was a direct instruction, and he liked those. Don't ask if she's alright. I can do that. Easy. He filed the information away for potential future collisions, and again grasped the hem of his coat as he looked up at the not-as-old-as-he'd-initially-thought-but-still-kind-of-old lady, thinking hard about whether she could help him or if that was considered Talking To Strangers, or if that didn't matter because he'd already spoken to her. While he turned the thoughts over and over in his head, he hummed a low, toneless hum. Hummmmmmmm...
Wait. "That isn't my name," Ezra halted his humming to say, and rolled his coat tightly in his hands. "But I will. And you should as well too. And have you seen my dad? I need to find him or I'll be digested and also forgotten." Uh oh. Oh no. HummmmmmmMMMMMM...

Anastasia hmmphed to herself that kids these days didn't know the meaning of simple words like heathen. This child probably couldn't even read, could it? What was it--- seven? Nine? Surely it should have picked up a book by now. No doubt it was being raised by bloody unintelligent parents who praised it every time it so much as---
"EXCUSE you," she stopped the boy mid-sentence. SHE should look where she was going? "I think not. YOU walked into ME, child, let's get a few things straight here." Obviously she always watched where she was going, even from behind the lenses of sunglasses so dark it looked like nighttime outside. That was just how she liked things. She was never, EVER at fault, and would GLADLY help give this child and its owner/parental unit some guidance. Just as soon as said parent would come along...
How was she to know who the boy's father was? "Who is he?" she demanded of the brat. "How would I know if I've seen him?" And what nonsense was he on about now? Contrary to popular belief, the Bunzinator did not actually consume children. If she did, she wouldn't need collagen injections, see.

Excuse... him?
This particular turn of phrase was one Ezra had somehow not encountered before, and he instantly fixated on it, which wasn't ideal, because the lady was still saying things to him that he should probably have been listening to - though, luckily(?), he did not find her terribly intimidating, being almost totally oblivious to her manner and tone. Her hair was giving him an odd feeling of unease though, and he couldn't be sure if it was because it was like red berries and he was like an animal trying not to be poisoned, or if he simply didn't like looking at it.
But anyway. That phrase. Yes. That phrase was too curious for him not to think about; nobody had ever told him to excuse himself before. He couldn't even begin to think how to respond.
So... he did not. There. Problem solved. Easy. "He's..." Here was another question that threw Ezra a bit, so that he ended up sort of gaping at the lady for a moment. Or rather, just past her, as was his custom. He blinked, glanced at that red hair, and then away again, and blinked once more. "He's my dad." Ezra clenched his hands tightly around the hem of his coat, as though he could wring some understanding of the situation out of it. He was... lost. And not just literally. "And he's... tall. Taller than you, I think. Probably." Hard to remember without him being right there. "Ummmmmm..."

Anastasia huffed impatiently, her nostrils flaring like a dragon before it breathed fire on its prey. Admittedly, she had very little patience for children, but even less so when she was running an errand. She just did not understand why this boy was looking at her like a goldfish out of water!
"That's it," she decided, grabbing the boy roughly by the wrist and starting to tug him behind her as she marched down the street. Obviously she couldn't just leave him here on his own, but she also didn't want to deal with this child's idiocracy any longer. She had STUFF to BUY. Her face was getting more wrinkly by the second! And even if there was no child watch here or whatnot, she'd deposit this boy with the nearest shopkeeper and make him their problem.

| Open - anyone want to play? *randomly tagged* | Norbert(a) | The Wandmaker (tm) The mess with the owls/memos at the Ministry had caused Adam to start using his red and white support cane again. His eyesight had improved, but it was never going to be back to what it was before a star decided he looked like a tasty morsel. He could, for the most part, get around without needing the cane, but due to the random flight paths of the owls, the droppings, and pellets Adam had wiped out more than once because of his craptacular sight, and so, out came his trusty support cane. It helped him navigate the halls of the ministry and well, he just hadn’t put it way once he got outside. Sometimes, Diagon Alley could get a bit crowded and the cane sometimes kept people away form him.
Sometimes.
Sometimes, it just seemed to attract attention.
Inside his coat pocket, where the support cane was usually tucked away, Adam had a letter for Zita. He really should look into purchasing an owl himself, but he was hoping that this long-distance whatever-it-was-they-had going on would be over soon. Besides, Adam and animals really didn’t mix. Nope, the man was more of a plant person and frankly, he had enough problems with his fanged geranium. Which was why he was headed to the post office. It was a pain, but at least not as much as having to care for his own owl would be.
Tap. Tap. Tappity-Ttp went his cane as he swung it gently from side-to-side as he wandered down the street.

And even if there was no child watch here or whatnot, she'd deposit this boy with the nearest shopkeeper and make him their problem. The old lady's hand was suddenly around his wrist and, for a moment, Ezra froze. Nobody ever did that to him, nobody but his mum and his dad and they usually gave him warning and never grabbed but she was grabbing and that meant... that meant...
No, it didn't mean a lost kids area.
It meant he was being stolen.
So Ezra did the natural thing, and SHRIEKED at the top of his lungs, as long and loud as he could. "AAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
She was trying to STEAL HIM. Jake Upstead had been frantically searching for third fourth-born child for... oh, just a few minutes, actually. Apparently, that had been ample time for Ezra to get himself almost hopelessly lost, and MORE than enough time for Jake to work himself into a near frenzy. Diagon Alley had not, historically, treated his children well. Why they always insisted on wandering off despite knowing this he would never understand, but he was tempted to start magically tethering them to him whenever they came to this street.
Or, actually, whenever they went anywhere at all. His kids were horribly adept at finding trouble.
When he was still halfway up the street, poking his head into a shop with one of the more brightly coloured window displays, he heard the scream. Jake knew Ezra's scream very well - for a quiet boy, he used it a lot - and instantly came sprinting running.
And then... there he was. Apparently safe and sound, accompanied by a woman, whom Jake could currently only see from the back, and so mainly noted that red hair. "Ezra!" he yelled, because... well... the screaming. It was quite necessary to be heard over it. "What's going on here?" Only a concentrated effort of willpower stopped him immediately drawing his wand. Because that could be intimidating. To some people. Apparently.

If Anastasia had actually been wanting to steal this child, she would have (and easily could have!) disapparated with him already. There were many uses for unattended children, but excuse her for attempting to do the right thing for a change with returning this one to its rightful owner...!
And NOW it was screaming. Great. The screaming caused a small amount of hesitation in her determination to drag him to the nearest shopkeeper, which resulted in her loosening her grip on the boy's wrist.
"Knock off that blasted screaming!" she yelled over the kid's vocalizations, "or I'll give you something to scream about!"
Naturally she couldn't hear or see the father finally coming to retrieve his offspring, considering that he was behind them and was being drowned out by his own child.

Naturally she couldn't hear or see the father finally coming to retrieve his offspring, considering that he was behind them and was being drowned out by his own child. Though shrieking in terror - especially when someone believed they were being stolen - was often accompanied by panicked flailing, Ezra had stood absolutely frozen while he screamed, like all that energy needed to go to his lungs and be turned into decibels. But when he felt the OLD LADY's grip on his wrist loosen, he wasted not a single microsecond in wrenching his arm free.
Ezra was just about ready to launch a powerful karate kick, too - he was allowed to do it in self-defence which was definitely what this was - so that he could make an escape, when he mercifully caught sight (at last) of a familiar figure. Naturally, obviously, Ezra ran straight for his father, barrelled into him and then took cover behind him. "DadshewastryingtostealmeYOUHAVETOARRESTHER." Criminal! Nasty old lady criminal! What... in the...
... what??? "WHAT is going ON here?" Jake said again. Yelled, really, with the booming Hit Wizard™ voice and all. With Ezra safe behind him, and no longer screaming but trembling, which was much easier on the ears, Jake could focus his wrath attention on the woman he'd just heard tHrEAtENiNg(?????) his boy. His child. He placed one hand behind him, on Ezra's head, and flicked one of his wands from its wrist holster with the other. "Where exactly did you think you were going with my son?"

"I was NOT trying to steal you!" Anastasia again protested, even LOUDER this time. She knew better than to try to drown out a hysterical child, but did her knowledge of childrearing prevent her from acting like one herself? Not very often, actually.
She whirled on the father, her wrath heated attention ALSO on the man and his WAND. Could he even arrest her? Did he have the authority to do so?! Should she arm herself now??!?! Without thinking, her wand instinctively slid from her wrist holster into her hand. "I was ATTEMPTING to return him to a LOST CHILD area, assuming there still IS ONE HERE," she huffed. There was something vaguely familiar with this man, but not anything that would cause her to hesitate in protesting her innocence.
"YOUR CHILD," offspring, "ATTACKED ME!" Ran into, more like, but he hadn't been here to see it so it was her word against the tadpole's and Annie was always absolutely convinced of herself as never ever ever being incorrect about anything ever.

Each Thursday after work, January stopped by the post office to send off a care package to her elderly father. He didn't always remember who the name on the card belonged to, but he always appreciated the sweets January sent him. Hopefully things at the Ministry would slow down soon enough so that she could visit him for a weekend.
January headed down the street, sticking closer to the buildings as she headed home for dinner with her family. She hoped Vic remembered to make the lasagna, because after a long day at work, lasagna sounded incredible.
Pausing by a trash can, set off to the side by a narrow alleyway that led back behind some of the shops, January pulled the receipt from the post office out of her purse and tossed it into the trash bin. And.. was that a used tissue in her purse too? Best to throw that away too, just in case. |

Simone had been scanning the alley for about a twenty minutes before she spotted January coming out of the post office. A grin spreading as she was happy to see the woman sticking to the schedule she had been doing for months. Out of all the people Simone had taken to watching, January seemed to be the most reliable of them. She had been standing a bit down the alley so once seeing the woman she shoved her hands her in rob pockets and began walking towards the post office.
As she got closer she noticed her pause for a moment so she too paused, but the pause was perfect and Simone continued on. Getting closer to the woman she put her hand around her wand but keeping it in her robe and let a piece of small paper slip out of her robe to the ground between the two women. "Excuse me, I think you dropped something out of your purse." As she said this she came up to stand directly in front of the woman.

His mind still filled with worries about the upcoming days, Minjae escaped his family's mansion by telling his chauffeur that he wanted to go shopping. Which had been true, he was going shopping. Just not in London like what he had told his parents. And right now his trustworthy chauffeur was currently waiting for him on the corner of the street near the Leaky Cauldron.
He was dressed in a white dress shirt rolled up just high enough to show off his new and expensive wrist watch and simple jeans while carrying a black bag in his left hand. He shielded his eyes as the sun reflected from one of the shopping windows and in to his face as he walked. There were numerous things he still had to buy before going to Hogwarts. His books, a new cauldron, treats for his pets. He took his shopping list out of his back pocket and looked down to check it.

Not-so-little Becky Rasting was relieved to be back in London and Diagon Alley after what had been a...difficult summer term at Himitsumahou. Her sleek black hair down to her waist seemed a little less luminescent than usual and something in her hazel-green eyes felt...sad. But she was determined to turn things around and an afternoon in the Alley while waiting for grandpa to finished up with all his important meetings at the Ministry. Now that she was a FOURTH year...she was allowed to go out a bit more on her own. Especially since she had proven herself to be responsible - so she felt VERY mature recently.
She was even KISSING someone now. Though that was also a bit confusing.
She was feeling the urge to...look at MAKE UP...but did not remember where exactly the shop was so she was meandering when she spotted her housemate. "Minjae!" she squeaked, giddy to see the familiar face as she shuffled more quickly towards him and tackled him from behind.

"Oh-" January started, looking around on the ground. It was just a piece of paper. Honestly, the woman could have picked it up for her instead of just telling her, but that was neither here nor there.
January stooped over to pick the piece of paper up, inspecting it quickly to see if it was anything important. |
