Needless to say, she was excited.

Cardigan had been awaiting this day for a while, as her sister had been an intern herself. She was all too familiar with the process, and longed for the day when it would be her turn. And now, the day was here!

Calm down, she told herself as she clicked in on her heels, longing to change into the converse she had stowed away in her satchel. Liesel had informed her that it was in her best interest to dress her finest, and dress her best she did. Who knows? Maybe she would have a job at one of these shops in the near, or not quite so, future. "One can only dream," She muttered under her breath, sighing as she made her way over to where it seemed the "crowd" was. Her best bet, right?

The small group of people turned out to be two boys looking to be around her age, and man who looked like he would be her boss for the summer. "Hello sir, it's a pleasure," she chirped, extending her hand to him and nodding at the other two.

Eeep!

sweetpinkpixie 12-14-2013 09:50 PM

Basil picked up his spray bottle and gave his hands a few more squirts as the door to the Daily Prophet opened and the expected people walked in. Including Jorge. Good. That meant he didn't have to supervise the interns on his own.

Was it just him, or were kids getting taller and taller every summer? He should have wadded up more newspaper to stick in his converse. He was having an even bigger Napoleon complex today. Which was not going to get any better with him dragging a chair from one side of the room to the middle and him standing on it. After it had been disinfected. Of course.

"Good morning, I am Basil Skeeter. Editor-in-Chief to the Daily Prophet. This gentleman here is one of our journalists," he said after clapping his hands together to get everyone's attention. "To start us all off, we are going to hold a bit of a competition among you all. Winner will get a few more galleons for their pocket and a little something extra. Now, I hope you are all competent in Potions, because those skills may come in handy with this challenge." He grabbed his wand from his back pocket and levitaged a large tray of STUFF to the top of the desk. Fruit. Nuts. Cakes. Vegetables. Take-out food from the Leaky Cauldron. Lots of stuff which also included two large bags of coffee beans. "Here at the Daily Prophet, coffee is like out blood and for some time now we have needed a new blend. New flavor to keep everyone motivated and excited to come into the work place. YOUR challenge is to come up with this new flavor, brew it - all the supplies you need are right here - and then serve it to myself and the other journalist who will judge just who brewed us the best cup of coffee."

And no, he was not interested in hearing their names at this present moment.

Bazinga 12-14-2013 10:16 PM

Jorge heard boss man clap his hands and tried not to laugh as he saw him grab a chair. The man really wasn't that small, but a chair could make things easier. At least it was a smart idea, but what was with all the disinfecting. If there was one thing Jorge knew for sure it was that his boss was very odd. Well anyway he looked out at the kids that were there and yes he noticed the one that tried to sneak in a little later than the rest, but since Basil hadn't started yet he would think she was just fashionably late not actually late.

Giving one of his smiles as Basil kind of introduced him he added, "Jorge Cristo De La Garza" His thick Spanish accent very obvious. He held in a chuckle as he heard what Basil had them doing, well this was a good idea now wasn't it. He was getting tired of the coffee that they had at the office. "Make sure we are the first two to get those test cups since the others haven't shown their faces to you yet." There had to be a perk to being here early and this was it.

"Oh and once you have that done I might have a job for one of you. Anyone here good with music?" It was an important job in his eyes at least. This could be fun and why not bring someone with him to help with that fun.

PuppySara 12-14-2013 11:42 PM

Brodie looked at his boss fighting the look of shock... Making coffee? He gave a mental nod, little as he wanted to. He knew this was part of a job, sometimes doing things you didn't really want to do. So he set to the task and decided to try his mothers old recipe she made. He looked and grabbed a couple of the oranges from the fruits but paused. Did they have a juicer? It tasted better with fresh orange juice... plus he didn't see orange juice either... Maybe this wouldn't work...

While he was trying to think he caught what other man in the room and gave a small nod to what he said, "Sir, I suppose you could say I am... I play drum and guitar and write the songs for my band..." He looked at him and gave a small smile. Then turned back, and fought the cheer seeing what he was looking for. He grabbed the juicer and grabbed it . He knew it would seem odd, but he knew how good his mother's coffee was... At least to him so it'd be worth a shot right?

sweetpinkpixie 12-18-2013 01:48 AM

no more waiting on the others *moves things along*

Basil was secretly trying to shove more newspaper down his converse while everyone worked, but paused to just raise an eyebrow at Jorge. Music? Really? What were they going to do? Sing them a song about their coffee while they served it?

"Save the serenades for the sirens," he said with a dismissive hand wave. No, seriously. Save it. Basil did not want to hear it while he was going over articles and notices. And YOU were getting a look, Jorge, a look that practically was up your nose since you were taller. "Let's go just another 15 minutes with this. I'm beginning to feel a bit jittery from my lack of caffeine."

He needed his cup of joe soon.

"Oh, and I take mine with 2 teaspoons of cream."

Bazinga 12-18-2013 06:35 PM

Jorge saw the look, but ignored his boss for a moment as the one that seemed to be working the hardest knew music. Good.. good to know. This was exactly what he was hoping for. He waved off his boss and headed towards the intern that said he knew music. He watched really uninterested in the coffee making. He was more of a coffee drinker not a coffee maker. So he would be happy when they were done. Did this make the boy nervous? His grin appeared again, he didn't mind intimidating the interns so if it made them nervous he was fine with that.

"Jorge" He said sharply again more direct to the boy, "and you are?" He figured it would probably be good to get to know a name of this boy that was going to help him with his umm.. work. "I have a job for you later if you are up for it." This will be great, but he would have to send an owl first.

He looked around eyeing the boss, would he be mad knowing he was using the intern for this? Nah it was work, honestly or maybe sort of work. It was with someone who he had been getting information from at least. "Once the coffee competition is over we'll head to my desk and have a chat." because coffee needed to come first of course.

Princesspower 12-22-2013 08:56 AM

Sarah was late. She did not mean to be late... it was just that with her brothers and kids spending the summer at Edwoods, one of the kids had ran off with the floo powder and there had to be a search to find it. That is what happened with a big family, no one really planned in advance and as a result she was late.. on her first day of the job.
"Good day Sir" she came in, slightly out of breath from the rush to the office. "There were unexpected delays in getting me here. I can't wait until I can apparate." OOPS/ Maybe she was talking too much. "It won't happen again" yes, Sarah was concientious and responsible, and could be punctual, even if her family wasn't. "anyways, Sarah Edwards, at your service. What can I do for the Daily Prophet?". Sarah pulled her hair out of the ponytalil holder and put it back up in a messy bun at the top of her head, pretty quickly. She was meant to fix herself up before coming, but she was running late and all

PuppySara 12-24-2013 03:59 AM

Brodie gave a nod to what Basil said, "Of course sir." He smiled. The cream could probably replace the half and half, right? He figured it be worth a shot, even if he didn't like it, he couldn't say the eighteen year old wasn't at least trying. So he quickly went to cutting the one of the oranges in half and after juicing. He smiled slightly, and looked around for the other ingredients needed and quickly found the nutmeg and cinnamon. Once again, it might seem strange, he just hoped his boss would trust he knew what he was doing. He looked around again and looked around, did they have ground cloves?Oh and brown sugar... He'd need that too...

He continued to look around and found both of the ingredients. He mixed the proper amount of each in for just one cup and put in the cream as Basil had asked. He smiled slightly and then looked at the man who introduced himself again, "Brodie, sir." He smiled and nodded, "Of course. Whatever's needed I'll be happy to help." Brodie looked again to the other mug, he had enough for a couple cups but he hadn't caught what Jorge said he'd like in his, "Um... Is there anything you want me to make sure I put in, sir?"

A copy of Daily Prophet being crushed in his hand, a not very impressed Josh Carter walked into the building of the newspaper. He eyed the place a bit before walking further into it. He did not know how this was going to end and he did not care. Josh Carter rarely cared about the outcomes of something when his anger was in charge of his brain.

This time, it was not anger alone though. At least he could hold himself. When the anger was fully in charge, he was often unable to do that. He worked on to keep a face with a neutral expression as he looked for someone he could talk to. Were there anyone here who took care of the visitors?

There had better be.

Josh walked to the front desk and slammed a hand on it. "Anyone here who can talk to me?"

Basil had been even more avid about his sanitizing of the Daily Prophet recently. It was a natural occurrence when he was anxious and having feelings of impending doom. His personal life was in shambles - more so than usual - which meant an increase in sarcasm on top of everything else.

Not to mention he was out of plaid shirts and had to settle for a plain old white cotton button up for the day.

Coming out of his office to use the loo, he jumped when he heard the slam and was tempted to just scurry on over to the bathroom, but instead made his way to the front desk where he saw the gentleman with the scrunched up paper.

"You can talk to me," he said, flashing a nervous smile in the other man's direction.

Let's see if anyone working in this newspaper thing had enough guts to stand in front of him. He eyed around impatiently, crushing the newspaper in his hand even more. He supposed his hit on the desk was enough for the people to make them aware of his presence.

Then finally someone approached and spoke to him. Keeping himself from snorting, Josh eyed the man from feet to head before speaking. "I need to talk to the boss here. Whoever he might be and..." he opened the wrinkled newspaper, showing the man a certain page "...whoever is responsible for this mess"

Clear enough?

Was THAT a jab at his height? HMMMM? Was he too SHORT to be the boss here? Was he soooooooo tiny that not even a Growth Charm could have any effect? WAS THAT WHAT THE MAN WAS TRYING TO SAY?!

Kicking his wooden box forward towards the desk, Basil stood on it so that he could be eye level with the gentleman and didn't even need to take the paper from him to know what was going on, but he took it nonetheless and pretended to give it a glance over out of courtesy. It was written all over this man's face, clear as day. "I am the Editor-in-Chief here at the Daily Prophet," he said with an amused calmness. "I take full responsibility for anything published in the paper. I'm afraid the author of this particular piece is not in at the moment as I have sent him out into the Alley on an assignment." He pushed up on his tip toes and reached for a form. "You are more than welcome to file an official complaint, if you wish."

Smile.

Jorge was having a good day, but who wouldn't when you went to check some facts and every fact check you had were with the adorable witches on Diagon Alley. He swore this place hid the beauties from the rest of the wizarding world, but no matter he did live here now so he got to experience them everyday.

Glancing at his notes as he walked through the door he looked up to hearing voices. Not a typical thing around the entrance. Usually he would see no one so what was going on. "Hola" He was still glancing and questioning whether this was a friendly situation or not. There was something about the man holding the paper that set his curiosity off, which always seemed to bring trouble.

Then his bosses nervous box standing. Should he head to his office and leave the men or should he walk over and see what's going on? Taking a sip of his coffee Jorge moved towards the desk, "Everything alright boss?"

Editor in chief...

Well...that meant boss Josh supposed. Josh knew no fancy titles other than boss. Boss was the fanciest one to him. While this man did not look fancy at all with the ridiculous thing he was wearing, Josh did not care about his looks. His looks could be forced to change in a dramatic way in any minute anyway.

The auror kept eyeing him as he spoke. And what was he doing? Stepping on a box? This time the Carter man let out a snort. A loud one. Taking the full responsibility for the paper. Hmm... "Then we might not need your guy...perhaps. That depends on you."

Josh raised eyebrows when the man reached for a form. His dark brown eyes did not gaze at the paper for too long. "An official complaint...of course." he took the paper and slowly tore it in two. Then he tore it in four and tore it more until he had a small pile of papers. Then he poured the papers over the editor in chief's head. "This was a beautiful sight." he said watching the pieces falling around the man. "Joshua Carter..." then he introduced himself "Auror. But i am not here on the authority of the Magical Law Enforcement. I consider this more of a personal issue. Now, since you have my official complaint, can we have a talk in somewhere much more private?"

And then someone else was approaching. Josh's dark brown gaze landed on the man. Hmmm...was he going to stand on a box too? It could be a really amusing day for him if he did. Watching newspaper birds perching on boxes. How amusing. Everything alright? Was everything alright? "I cannot talk about that yet"

Bazinga 01-19-2014 04:37 AM

Jorge took in the scene as he got closer of the man. What was he doing? Yes this was certainly not a friendly situation and Jorge moved closer. He wasn't short nor was he intimidated easily so no need to hide behind the desk. He walked right over and stood next to the man as he showered the boss with paper. "I don't think he meant to fill it out that way. Why don't you try again." Summoning a paper towards him again. "Here use my quill it self writes if you need it to." Because possibly the man didn't know how and that's why he ripped the first one up.

Oh it really made sense now, "Here about the article that was just printed I take it?" Maybe he should be taking some of this aggression out on his former boss. The man was guilty as sin in Jorge's eyes. A trader to his own kind for leaving the place in such a mess and now just gone. He glanced at Basil to see what actions the man would want to do, since he was the boss, but if Jorge could have his way he'd be thrown back out on the street to go back to the ministry or possibly he could help answer some questions on where this old boss is.

He started thinking about angles and questions as he waited for Basil to say what he wanted done.

lazykitty 01-20-2014 01:18 AM

Unlike the Carter that had entered before her, this Carter wasn't clutching her copy of the Daily Prophet in anger. Nope, it was neatly folded, just like one would expect to see from someone headed to work. Only Roxanne wasn't really headed to work quite yet either. Instead, she'd stopped by the newspaper's headquarters to discuss something that she thought they might be interested in (and to help clear Wes' name).

But as she stepped into the building, it seemed that Josh had beaten her to the punch (at least on the Wes part). Or had Emily sent him? Either way, he was definitely angry, judging by the clenched fists. She watched as Josh ripped up the paper and threw it on Basil. "Well, that wasn't very nice. And not a very good way of improving the MLE's image in the community," she commented lightly. "Emily won't be very happy with you." Not that she particularly cared what the younger woman thought, or even about the MLE's image. In her opinion, that was ruined the moment Emily was allowed to take over.

"Anyway, I was hoping to speak with a reporter. I have some information that might be of interest about the De Talone case and what the MLE is doing, or in this case, not doing about it......" And yes, she was aware that you are still here Josh and would probably report back to your department head. In fact, she sent the other Carter a smirk.

sweetpinkpixie 01-20-2014 01:45 AM

*rearranges*

Basil would have gasped, if it hadn't been for him finding the tearing of the paper moderately amusing AND that he was trying to contain a 'I really need to pee' dance as he stood on his elevation box. But the tearing in half was just the beginning it seemed and the next thing the Editor-in-Chief knew it was raining bits of his paper all over him while his mouth hung open in surprise.

Spitting out a few bits that had manage to flutter into his mouth, he shot Jorge a look to tread lightly. His newest reporter was as blunt as a rock to the head and he fancied avoiding any fist fights at the Headquarters. Or anywhere for that matter.

"To avoid more paper being wasted, why don't we all step into my office and we can discuss thi ----"

But then another person entered, a woman, who apparently had more information on the story. In all honesty, Basil was surprised that the firecracker of a Department Head hadn't come down to the Prophet herself. She had been especially vocal when they had run an article where her name was misspelled - a miss Basil was still suffering from.

His eyes glanced back towards the raging young man and pondered his next move. On the one hand, he could smell a scoop waiting to happen and a good headline was always appreciated. On the other, he was seriously wondering why this woman was coming out so publicly - with an Auror present and everything.

"If you could please follow me into my office," he said, one hand up towards the woman. It was for her own protection after all. Not talking in front of the Auror. "We can discuss what it is you have to share there. In private."

And now his attention was back on Jorge. "Why don't you take our other visitor to the Conference Room to discuss the matter. I will come in once I am done speaking with this woman."

Fira 01-20-2014 03:14 AM

Josh eyed the man who took out a quill and showed him another of those papers. Seriously? He thought he made his intention about filling this 'official complaint paper' pretty clear. Self writing quill? What did he thinkhe was? A dumbhead that cannot write himself? After eyeing the man with his not-so-impressed dark brown gaze, he eyed the quill a bit then his eyes returned to the man "If you do not want that quill to be stuck in somewhere on you that it should not naturally be, keep it away from me" He supposed now that was clear enough for the newspaper bird.

The article, yes. Josh supposed then this man was involved with its publishment too. Perhaps, it had even been his idea. He was going to find out soon. At least the boss newspaper bird ended up to be smarter than he looked. Sure, Josh wanted to discuss the matter in his office then he would decide if he could....

....huh.

Josh looked towards where the footsteps approached and he narrowed his eyes he saw the very familiar woman. He did not need to ask what she was there for since she made it very clear without losing much time. "Roxanne Carter" Josh growled and walked to her leaving the paper bird boss. "Carter. I don't remember marrying you. Did you slip a potion in my drink or something?" the angry and annoyed Auror glared at her a bit and started again answeing his own question "Of course, not. Because i do not marry traitors even under most powerful magic!" Yes, YOU ARE A TRAITOR, Roxanne Carter. "I am not here on the authority of my department. No one sent me. Report me to the minister himself, i don!t care. At least i keep my honour by being no traitor"

Then....whaaaaaaaaat...

The bird was inviting the traitor woman to the office and he was supposed to stay with this self writing quill bird? "No!!!" he exclaimed. "You..." he pointed a finger at Roxanne "...are going to speak no single word about my ex-boss, my current boss and the cases. What do you know about any of them anyway? You are not from us anymore!"

Then his angry gaze returned to the boss newspaper bird "Do i look like a patient enough man to stay here and wait for you to be finished with listening to the lies of a traitor woman?"

Bazinga 01-20-2014 03:55 AM

Jorge was still standing and waiting when the man started threatening again. A smirk never leaving his face he put his quill away. It would be used later. Harassment and threats were pretty news worthy now weren't they? He could see the headlines now MLE needing to cause threats to act all big and tough when they couldn't prove how tough they really were. Yes this was working out better than he could expect and to Jorge this just meant his article was a huge success. Thank you teenage type ragging man boy.

But before he could say more his eyes moved and what a surprise was the beauty that walked in and his charming grin grew as she talked. This was his lucky day wasn't it. Auror making himself look bad and someone who seemed to know the department and wanted to talk. Well he knew exactly whom he wanted to talk with. That was until Basil opened his mouth. For a little man he sure knew how to burst a big bubble.

Once ragging man was done with his comments Jorge stepped a bit closer to the woman, "There is no need for hostility. She came in as freely as you right now. Whether you agree with her or not you shouldn't speak to a lady like that." He was fine with the disagreement but no need for rudeness.

Now time to act professional he guessed and sighed, "Sir if you'll just follow me into the conference room we can get started with your side of things." Whatever that might be. Jorge did his homework so he knew what he put in his articles were always based around facts even if it pointed fingers.

Oh manly boy didn't want to go with him? That was so fine with him he could take the lady into the conference room. It would be more fun anyway to speak to her.

lazykitty 01-20-2014 05:55 AM

Hmm...... seemed the boss himself was interested. Nice. She was about follow him to his office, when Josh just had to go and make a scene. She hoped someone around here was taking plenty of mental notes of this, because well, it would definitely make a good story.

And then he just had to go and throw the cherry on top of the proverbial sundae. "Maybe last names are another thing you don't realize how works. See, Carter has been my last name since I was born, as it was my father's before me and his father before him and so on," Roxanne replied calmly. And now he was trying to tell her what to do, which only served to add a raised eyebrow to her widening smirk. Go ahead, little man child, make things easier for her.

She hadn’t realized that anyone else was in the room until the other man (Jorge) spoke up. He got a thankful smile and a mouthed 'Can you believe this guy?' Yep, MLE was looking even worse by the minute.

sweetpinkpixie 01-23-2014 01:35 AM

Potty dance. It was happening. Subtly. But still happening a bit as Basil swayed a little on his platform while he watched the bickering. If it weren't for the fact that he might get a fist to the face, he would have pointed out that this was clearly an instance of the pen being mightier than the sword since the one MLE employee was getting so worked up over words on print.

But he didn't. He valued his face too much.

Ignoring the whole Carter argument - because the whole thing was just stupid -- and taking just their names away from it for safe keeping in his noggin, he looked back to the man and stood up a bit more on his tip toes. "No," he replied simply to the patience question. "But that is your option. Either wait or leave." And let's keep the quills sanitary, yeah? He had just doused them this morning. "Jorge, be tactful."

Eyes now back on the woman - Miss Carter, was it? "My office is just right down the hall," he said as he gestured to his right. "I'll be right with you as soon as I make a quick pit stop."

Super quick. We promise.

With a quick nod in everyone's direction, the impish man scurried off to the bathroom before things became an even bigger mess in the reception area.

lazykitty 01-23-2014 07:57 AM

Now that her name had been established, and the completely ridiculous fight ended, it was time for her impromptu meeting with the editor. Who kind of seemed to need the restroom. "Alrighty," Roxanne replied, heading the direction indicated.

Fira 01-25-2014 11:47 PM

Was not that newspaper bird man too annoying for a bird like him? And the grin that he never dropped was beyond annoying so much that Josh had the urge to break his mouth with a single punch to stop it. He kept himself from doing so, for now, as it was not so necessary. He could not promise the man's chin health to be good for later though. That all depended on the things he might say and do. "She is no lady." Josh said after shooting a short glare at Roxanne "I would not call or consider a traitor lady"

Follow him to the conference room. Riiiight. Josh supposed that was not safe for the guy at all. He snorted then looked back at Roxanne again as she spoke. Last name. Yeah yeah yeah. "Wherever you got it, i don't care. I just don't like you having it anymore." That was it. End of the last names story.

The small newspaper man was too bold for his own goodness. One just did not simply say no to an aggressive Josh Carter. The dark brown glare that Josh fixed on the man was deadly yet he did not move to do anything for it looked like the man could be a permanent resident at St Mungo's with a single blow. He stared with narrowed eyes for a bit then spoke "Very well. I will wait but you will regret it." then he indicated at everyone in the room "All of you."

Now where was this conference room he was supposed to go?

Bazinga 01-28-2014 07:06 AM

Jorge's brown eyes followed the woman the entire way as she walked away from him and into his bosses office. Honestly why wasn't he questioning her? The story she'd probably be giving and the information that she probably would pay for giving later. He knew there could be problems with her coming in, but it was a risk you took for the news.

Now to deal with the adult two year old tantrum man. Not even really giving him another look, Jorge grabbed his coffee and turned, "Right this way." The man knew why he was here and the boss man said they were going to the conference room so really no reason to explain things again. Now to just head back there.

Theo had arrived in really good time, so he had stopped off to get an ice cream before making his appearance known at the Daily Prophet. He had a little vanilla schmutz down the front of his red shirt, but he had rubbed it with an inch of his life so he was pretty convinced no one would notice. No one could notice those things more than Theodore anyway. Theo wasn't totally sure where he was going so lingering in the reception area seemed like his best bet.

His stomach made a gurgling noise, which he put down to his ice cream. Hopefully it wouldn't make a reappearance or anything...

Urhgghgh....

Anyway, the 17 year old gradually approached the front desk of reception and tapped his fingers against his sides casually. Yes, they would make the first move, right? It's not like this place was booming with students, so they'd have to assume he was their intern. Their nervous intern.
