| | Noltie's Botanical Novelties Noltie's Botanical Novelties is a peculiar little shop which looks as though humanity has abandoned it entirely and nature is trying its best to take over. While the storefront is similar in appearance to the stores on either side, tendrils of plants have broken through and weaved in and out of the brickwork and there are strange and beautiful flowers seemingly growing right out of the mortar.
Inside the store its generally humid like a greenhouse and it smells fresh and loamy - definitely heaven for anyone with the proverbial green thumb. The plants are organised by their geographic origins, and as you approach certain areas you might notice temperature changes and weather charms expertly in place to best serve the plants in question.
Noltie's prides itself on acquiring and stocking only the best magical and mundane herbology supplies. Even those plants which are not on the permanent inventory can be acquired on request, so too can almost any non-magical plant, for a price. Nothing illegal is stocked here. Noltie's will not sell dangerous plants to minors, or anything that requires a license without the appropriate paperwork, everything in this store is above board, though we have heard there is a shop in Knockturn Alley that takes care of that sort of thing... This shop is NOT STAFFED and has a NPC shopkeeper.

But, safe he was. For the time being.
Not accustomed to ever receiving compliments about her appearance, or perhaps it was more so that she was skilled at dodging them like bludgers, she was under the assumption that he was referring to the toadstool currently cradled in her hand. Her pale fingers brushed over the pot, dusting a bit of dirt from the label, and nodded in agreement briefly. "I have always found the deep plum color of the caps aesthetically pleasing...and the navy stem as beautiful as it is useful." Despite this praise, however, she set the pot back on the shelf and cast her gaze over the other toadstool options available without casting a glance just yet at him. "Do you think it the best option for me then?"
The Plum Pharaoh, that is.
This was their way of saying hello, obviously, and it worked for Valerie as she had no patience for small talk. David was not discouraged from continuing to poke the (admittedly, very pretty and very white polar) bear. Perhaps this Ravenclaw had spent too much time around Gryffindors, hmm?
He listened to her, though, his blue eyes trailing down to the toadstools in her hand. Of course, he understood that they had crossed wires, so to speak, to borrow yet another Muggleism, but to tell the truth, he would not be deterred today. Even if he were highly interested in magical plants and fungi.
"No, actually," David's mouth nearly twitched at the corners in a bit of a giveaway, "I think you are more drawn to the dangerous ones; perhaps one that's scarlet in color as a warning sign that it should not be touched? Perhaps you should seek out a Blaze-Again Button?" He again tapped her shoulder with one of his long, lithe fingers. "To be quite frank, I was actually referring to your coat's color, Ms. Gray. It suits you, though I think red would suit you more. Might bring out your eyes somewhat."
He paused, his eyes meeting her aforementioned ones. "A simple compliment for a friend, nothing more." Alright, there, that was enough Gryffindoring and bear-baiting for the day.

He paused, his eyes meeting her aforementioned ones. "A simple compliment for a friend, nothing more." Alright, there, that was enough Gryffindoring and bear-baiting for the day. Hanging around with Gryffindors could be a nasty but alluring habit, as she learned during her year exchange at Hogwarts during the IMPS. Though her circle encompassed precisely one Gryffindor, Levi Kenning, who likewise had a knack for getting under her skin but also in a way that had earned her respect. It was nonsensical to the former Wampus - though she had been told that where she a Hogwarts student she would have been a Slytherin. Though this narrative was one where she was villainize and there was a nasty stereotype about that house.
It was an easy narrative for one to fall into, a black and white dichotomy of reality, when life was a spectrum of many shades.
His response elicited a pleasant feline variety of smirk while also drew her attention away from the toadstools and finally on David himself. "Encouraging my explosive personality are you, David Truebridge?" He was not entirely incorrect, though she had no real use for something with such popularity nor a desire to create fireworks. Aesthetically, however, yes she could see his point. Pulling back the veil on the compliment had the unfortunate and involuntary consequences of her eyes widening and her face warming. Another unpleasant outcome, thanks to her pale features, was that it was always obvious when something had her even slightly flustered. "Perhaps," she replied upon clearing her throat, fiery violet-gray eyes fleetingly gazing into his cool blue ones. "Though unfortunately lacking a certain aposematic quality with people."
Bottom line being that no, Valerie Gray still did not know how to take a compliment and there was a mild twinge of lament for how dismissive she was behaving. Hence an afterthought of an olive branch.
"I own a coat of scarlet. I shall wear it next time we meet."

Definitely not one she could work in every day.
Regina chuckled as he continued on asking about her twin. "Naia's her name. She's studying to be a healer. And she's the younger twin." Very important information of course. Even if it was only by a few minutes. Ahem.
Listening to him talk about his twin, she took a cursory glance over the lavender plant options before her face was turned toward him again, an eyebrow raised. "Trolls? They must be...interesting to work with." She was glad that she had human coworkers though. Another chuckle escaped her though at his insistence that he was the smarter twin. Competitive, they must be. "I suppose I can believe that," she said with a grin. "I would assume the Ministry wouldn't hire people who weren't smart into the Law Enforcement department." Otherwise they would just hire trolls too, right? So there had to be some level of competence and intelligence required. It was good they were moving on from talking about work because the mention of it led to him thinking about it, and him thinking about it led to his heart palpitating like, A LOT.
...BUT WAIT.
NAIA.
Why did this sound...weirdly familiar? Her face, too, suddenly, as if a cloud...were getting unfogged - WAIT! "You and your twin did a mud run a couple years ago!" he suddenly said, rather louder than he had originally anticipated. It sort of echoed around the shop. And it made him blush because HE WAS NOW EMBARASSED.
COULD HE HIDE NOW?

Regina immediately felt her face heat up when he mentioned that, the pieces suddenly falling into place. So she probably had seen him around the Ministry in passing, but she had also seen him and his brother at that ridiculous mud run Naia had dragged her to. Where she'd begrudgingly maybe had a little bit of fun made a complete fool of herself among all the mud and wind and rain and obstacles. "Oh yeah, we did. I...I think I do remember seeing you there. And your brother was with you, right?"

| A Poop * k8 * Well, his face was red, too, because he acutely remembered Logan acting the total buffoon that day. Total buffoon. Like, whistling and everything. Had he whistled? Scottie just remembered Logan being terribly gross that day at any pretty woman they saw. Blegh. "He was. He totally lied to me, too. He said we'd be doing some practice auror training thing or something...I can't remember exactly what he said, but when we showed up, you can imagine my surprise that it was...a mud run. I was ill prepared," he rolled his eyes just thinking about it, and he quickly pushed up the sleeves of his shirt to his elbows as he began to rummage around the potted lavender plants to find the perfect one. "This one looks nice, yeah?" he smiled as he held up a small pot with a tiiiiiny little sprout peeking out.

Naia at least let me know what I was signing up for." It probably would've been much worse if she hadn't. Though...it had still been a good distraction for her, considering everything that had been going on with her family at the time.
But she still never wanted to do another mud run again. Once was enough. "Yeah, that's a good one." Regina smiled. "Lots of room for it to grow." She looked over the other ones and picked up another one, though this one's sprout had, well, sprouted a little more. "Think I'll try this one."
