Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height and the reach of your arm to help the wandmakers find the best fitting wand. Whether you'll be receiving your first wand or are in need of a new one, step on over to be fitted and measured!
Instructions
⌦ In order to receive a wand, please take the WAND QUIZ ONCE for each character you wish to receive a wand. Then, post your character being measured by the "hovering measuring tape" ONCE in this thread. See the example post below.
⌦ You may role play the Magical measuring tape, but you may not role play for the shopkeepers.
⌦ After submitting the wand quiz and posting in this thread, please wait for your post to be edited with a link to the 'Counter and Wand Fittings' thread where a shop worker will assist you and your character in finding their perfect wand match. You must RP to get your wand.
⌦ If you have any questions, feel free to PM either Rose (Roselyn) or Tegan (Tegz) and we'll try to answer your questions as quickly and efficiently as we can.

Jessica went into Ollivanders with more than her share of nerves, it was time for her first wand! The eleven year old made her way over to the measuring area and waited for her turn. Soon enough the measuring tape reached her and began zipping about, straightening with a snap and measuring out her height and, when she held her arms out, she watched it take a measurement of how long they were too. Fun! Did that mean her wand would be as big as her whole arm?
The girl stepped away from the measuring area and she eagerly headed to the front for the shopkeeper to find her wand.
... But I can use it to make charms and do so many fun things.
I don't NEED to have fun.
Olivia Anderson begrudged her way into Ollivander's. She was supposed to do this by herself... HERSELF. So, not only did her father put her in this stupid, summer, flower dress, he wasn't even going to go in with her???
Thank goodness she would be away from him in September...
This whimsical measuring tape came prancing over to Olivia and the girl instinctively swatted it away from her face.
Now, I DEFINITELY don't want magic.
... But all the cool little charms!!!
Soon the tape zoomed away. Olivia started tapping her foot in anticipation.
Tessa had been separated from her family...actually, it was a case of "Tessa was too impatient to stay with her family and wanted to wander off by herself" moments. It wasn't like she was going to stray off into the muggle world with all this awesome magical stuff right at her fingertips. Sure there were a ton of possible ways she could get into trouble being on her own in Diagon, but there were worse things that could happen.
Time to get a wand! Tessa was excited for Diagon in general, but she had been dreaming about the day she got fitted for her wand for months now. Once it was her turn to get measured, Tessa stepped up for her measurements. When the tape measurement started to fly around her she lifted her arms up to stick out beside her. "Hey there, I don't think you measured that right!" Tessa exclaimed, though the tape measure paid her no mind.
Just as quickly as it started it ended. "That's it?" Tessa asked no one in particular as the tape measure moved onto the next person. "Really? I thought it would be so much more than that." She huffed as she crossed her arms in front of her.
Toby never actually got his wand from Ollivander's last summer. His wand hadn't been new at all. Nope, he'd been entrusted with a family wand that had belonged to some great uncle who'd been super great at magic. Tobias had wondered if that had been such a brilliant idea all year, especially when the thing started setting small fires when he tried new spells. Or his spells were a little TOO enthusiastic.
So Toby had hidden the wand somewhere about the house and, since his parents couldn't do magic to try and find it, they had given up looking. There had been a bit of an argument, well... a big argument about how he kept getting into trouble or causing problems, but the MAIN thing was that Tobias was getting his OWN WAND. Which was only fair.
... maybe he should have just asked?
TOO LATE NOW.
So here Tobias was, in the wand shop. He made his way straight over to the measuring tape thingy, and just watched it as it did its work. A whole year and magic was still entertaining and outright wondrous to behold in Toby's eyes.
It was an enthusiastic little tape measure, wasn't it? Was it really that important to have all these little measurements? The arm... that mde sense. Tobias wanted to hold out his arm for the tape measure to reach properly but it seemed like it was managing fine. The Hufflepuff did, of course, raise his arm when said measuring tape nudged at him to move.
Wow, not very polite, was it? A PLEASE wouldn't go amiss.
And then, it stopped. Soooooooo... that was that part done then, yeah?
Toby moved off to the side a bit so he wasn't in the way of anyone else while he waited for ~da next step~.
Willow entered the shop nervously. Being a muggleborn she was intrigued by the idea of a wand and had come here first. She looked around for a bit and then just stood, waiting for someone to help her. Questions rushed through her mind and she couldn't find the answers to any of them. Suddenly, interrupting her thinking was a floating measuring tape! She let out a slightly startled gasp and jumped as the the tape zipped around her, measuring her height and her arms and she was fascinated. What even is this? Is this what magic is like? She smiled, she was beginning to enjoy this a lot.
Jayden stepped into Ollivanders with great amazement, he let his eyes roam around the shop before deciding to move over to the measuring area. It was time FINALLY time to get his first wand! Awaiting his turn, the eleven year old eagerly glanced around the shop, soaking in the mystical feeling it evoked. Soon enough, it was his turn to be measured. The magical measuring tape began straightening out so as to begin measuring. Soon after measuring almost everything, it came to a stop. Amused that the measuring tape stopped measuring at the lashes of his eyes, he stepped away from the measuring area giggling to himself. Walking away from the measuring area, he noticed his mother and father standing outside of the shop, looking in, grinning from ear to ear. Seeing their happy faces he couldn't help but smile back. Turning to face the shopkeeper, his heartbeat quickened.
Double checking the list she held, Amanda peered around the dusty shop intently. A little muscle in her cheek twitched when she saw the mass of people; she briefly wondered if she could convince Nate to let her come back near closing, when hopefully far fewer people would be there. He probably wouldn't, though, and the idea of asking such a favor made her shake a little, way worse than just dealing with a bunch of other kids.
She slunk around behind the mass of people at the front of the store and waited her turn. The measuring tape startled her when it whipped around beside her and began its odd, unintelligible work; after half a minute of staring at its odd contortions, though, Amanda's mind began to wander off to other places.
The bell rings as the door opens. Two boys... Uhh... A man around his early to mid twenties enters the shop followed by a young boy who looks like he is just going to start attending Hogwarts. Many might wonder what are the connections between these two as they look nothing alike. Well, they are brothers, of course! Eric is way too young to be a father of an eleven year-old! They're not blood related though.
"So, is this where you bought your first wand?" asked the child so soft it sounded almost like a whisper. His facial expression impassive. He walks slowly looking at the stacks of boxes of various kinds of wand on the racks.
It has been nine years, but he still remembers the day he got his wand as if it happened just yesterday. Unlike the younger boy, Eric is smiling as he looks down at his brother. "Yup," he responds simply, but merrily. He recalls the wandmaker (at that time) had him tried a unicorn tail hair wand and he almost split the table into half. Eric chuckles at the thought of it, causing his brother, Angeal, to look up at him, raising an eyebrow. "Go to that thing, shorty!" the man gestures towards the measuring tape.
Did... Did he just called him Shorty? Eric called him... SHORTY?!?! How dare he! "I'm. NOT. Short!" hissed the boy before stomping off towards the measuring tape.
Lucian ran to the first shop he'd imagined himself going to all summer long. His parents needed to tend to Gringotts matters, and since he was too desperate to get his wand, his mother had given in and gave him spare Galleons. Right after entering the shop Lucian made sure to get measured. Every time a tape measure got close, he tried to swat it away to see if it'd bounce back.
That was fun while it lasted. He wasn't one for waiting and grew bored instantly. His blue eyes glanced around, and while he waited, he touched a few things out of curiosity. He was looking for any stray wands. He wanted one NOW. Preferably cool-looking and strong. Definitely strong. Like his dad's, or his mum's.
Being alone, 11 year old Emily edged through the door to Olivander's. Walking through tentatively, eyes always returning to the door. The shock when a flying object came whizzing towards her made Emily react by trying to push it away but it ceased moving around. Opening one eye she saw it was a measuring tape and visibly relaxed and let it measure her although she had yet to stop looking towards the exit.
Jessie knew she needed a wand, but had no idea about how to go about getting one, so with her curly bob bring blown around by the wind as the shop door opened and shut, she made her way inside. She had never been in a shop quite like it. In fact, she was slightly unsure, but very excited about the whole shopping business in general. Never before had she seen so many people! "O, wonder!" she exclaimed, as a magical measuring tape came and started taking measurements from every angle. Jessie just watched in amazement, raising limbs as necessary, a bright smile lighting up her face.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
THIS is what he had been waiting for for YEARS!
Opening the door of ollivanders in a rush, Kevin entered the store with a sweaty face and his party hat nearly sliding off his head. He righted it and when he placed it right again the top spewed out some confetti which would happen every few minutes.
Did he care if the shop got messy because of it? Nope, not his problem. The eleven year old looked around and when he found the counter he walked towards it, slapping the surface. "Helloooo? i want my wand!" he called and looked behind him when the door opened a second time and his parents both scolded at him for running off.
As Hayley stepped further inside, now at her mother's side, her own small hand in her mother's, she looked around the shop. There was no more boxes this way, but there was.. what was that? Hovering? It looked like a measuring tape.. but the young girl couldn't be sure.
And then she noticed the boy, who couldn't be much older than her (could he?), and two adults. His parents, probably. Her mum always taught her not to stare, so she didn't. Instead, she looked away and glanced up at her own parent. Just one, just her mum. Daddy had her little brother and sister somewhere else in Diagon Alley, somewhere where there wasn't a bunch of boxes on a bunch of shelves for Skylar to knock over or remove. Auntie Lex and Uncle Fred and the boys were probably with Daddy, too.
Letting go of her mum's hand, Hayley went to stand in front of her. Now.. what?
As soon as Caelen saw the wand shop, she ran inside, excitement filling her stomach like hot soup to a starving man. Her heart was pounding, but she didn't care. She was getting her first wand! Her first ever wand! Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce!
She remembered when she was about seven, sitting in her kitchen with a bowl of pretzel sticks. Her mother had enchanted the dirty dishes to clean themselves, and Caelen watched in amazement as they did just that. Pots and pans danced across the sink as sponges ran around trying to clean everything they could find. It quickly became a sudsy mess. But it looked so fun! The child wanted to try, and so she started making swishing and flicking moments with the pretzel she was holding. It elicited a laugh out of her mother and an eye roll from her brother -until she gave him a pretzel stick-.
Even now she wanted to imitate adult wand movements. She remembered pretending to enchant a flower pot at her aunts house with a pencil and running around the backyard "casting spells" on the flowers with a stick. Her aunt just sat back and laughed and suggested things to enchant next.
And you couldn't be a wizard without starting out with a wand. Everyone knew that. Even the dumbest witches and wizards knew that. And here she was. Getting her wizarding tools. And by herself! A child should be so lucky in her mind!
As she stood and tried to patiently wait, an enchanted measuring tape made its way over and started doing what it did best. Measure. It measured her arms and her height and every inch of a person that was needed to measure wands -apparently there were a lot of measurements involved-. Which got her to thinking several thoughts in the time she had to stay perfectly still.
What if I need a kiddie wand? What if I stink at magic? What if people hate me? What if I fall in the lake or accidently get shoved and fall out of a window? I'm short, Rockwell said it could happen. She stopped there. Since when did she listen to Rockwell? Her mother's whole speech-that-never-happened during the trip-that-never-happened during the summer-like-any-other-except-not-really specifically told her not to do that. She was to go to Hogwarts to get an eduction and become a good citizen. Not to follow a trouble-makers path. She had explicit instructions.

Her fingers clasped around her mother's hand, Brynn silently walked into the wand shop with the woman, intent on obtaining her first wand. She was too young to come to Diagon Alley herself, though it probably wasn't necessary to hold an adult's hand at her age. But it proved to be more of a comfort gesture as her excitement mixed with nervousness caused her anxiety level to elevate.
The nearly eleven year old wasn't sure what to expect, her own mother never obtaining a wand herself, and having to rely on vague stories of other people's experiences. Other people who didn't realize how important it was for her to know just what would happen when she walked in and who only provided vague retellings, if at all. So her eyes remained wide as they took in her surroundings and gave her mother a questioning glance before taking another sweeping look around the store.
All at once, a measuring tape zipped over, seemingly of its own volition, and began measuring her height, then lengths of various body parts. "Oh!" the slightly startled girl called out in surprise as brown eyes flickered this way and that, trying to keep the magical measuring tape in view as it moved around her body. Finally, it was finished as it left her and Brynn gave her mother another questioning glance before she was led over to the counter, anticipating her very own wand.

Grace was excited about getting her wand. She had always been envious of her mom, and her dad, and her dad and their wands. But she was going to get her own one now. "Come on mommm. Hurry up." She 11 year old pouted, before pulling her mom into the shop. She wanted to get new her wand straight away. She beamed, practically jumping up and down as she waited for her turn. She'd been waiting for this day for the last 11 years, so it really couldn't come quick enough.
Oh. Hello magical tape. She giggled a little as it measured her. Well, better be certain her wand is the right length. Noww just to waiiit.
This was really happening. Altair was practically shaking all over. The fact that there was such things as wands that performed magic was absolutely mind boggling to him. His father followed him in all the shops except for this one. His papa felt like it was sort of a right of passage for a young man. Altair wasn't sure about that, he thought his father was just nervous being around a bunch of people that had powers he didn't entirely understand.
So, Altair venture on inside, with his father pacing nervously outside the window. There seemed to be a lot of people in here. He didn't know if he would actually get anyone's attention. A lot of his future peers were with their towering parents, so it was even more difficult to see over anything that might be happening. What if he got up there and they discovered Altair was some sort of mistake and wasn't supposed to have a letter whatsoever? He certainly didn't feel like he had any magic within him.
It was finally his turn to step to the measuring area, where a tape seemed to soar out of nowhere and twisted and zipped all around him. Altair started to giggle because the tape tickled with each intricate movement. And then the tape vanished out of thin air and he waited for the shopkeeper to tell him what to do next.
Lana was practically bouncing as she entered the wand shop. This was what she was most excited for. She'd seen her dad's wand and her brother's wand and she couldn't wait til she got HER VERY OWN wand. Hopefully it was pretty. Hopefully it had a UNICORN hair. That would be the prettiest wand, she thought.
She was busy looking around at all the boxes when the magical measuring tape started doing its thing. Lana squeaked in surprise and froze, not moving a muscle until the measuring tape finished its job. And, just for good measure, she stayed completely still for a good thirty seconds more just in case there were more magic things around here that were going to attack her.
...No? Okay. Could she have her wand now? *BOUNCE*

He wanted to run into the shop as fast as he could. HIS FIRST WAND!!!! The only thing stopping him from doing so was the fact that his Mum was trailing very closely behind him and she'd told him not to run. The little boy latched on to his mother's hand, trying without actually doing it, to pull her faster. She was patient but he wouldn't push it. Once inside he got in line with what might have been a million people. They would take all the wands and there would be none left for him.
"Mummy, we should have come sooner. What if they run out? I won't get my wand and I can't be a wizard. Muuuummmy." He whined, tugging at her hand, only to be hushed into a forced calm. The small boy eyed the shelves, trying not to wibble at the line before him.
He felt his mum nudging him forward and the next thing he knew, there was a tape whizzing around. "Oi! Stop it!" He said, twisting and wiggling under the measure of the tape until it finally stopped. He scowled at the thing as it zipped off. Bloody thing could have hurt him and what now? Was he meant to wait? Go grab one before they were all gone? He could do that.
Anna walked in with a weak smile and looked around. She couldn't believe she was here and so she went over to get her measures. She was slightly worried, not knowing what to expect... She shouldn't be here in her opinion honestly, but she had someone offered to pay for her to go and it might do her some good to learn how to control this thing that separated her from her parents and now her sister. She fought back tears at that but she knew it was for the better... She silently sighed and just waited for her turn so she could get her wand, pay and get away... Back to Russia so she could sob more about losing her only friend and family in the orphanage.
Kolbi smiled as she practically sprinted into Ollivanders. She wanted a wand. She had wanted one since the time she was four years old, watching her mom do the chores around the house, and the "magical twig," as she called it back then, helping her do them. She walked in and saw the magical tape measure, the one which her mother and father had told her about. She giggled as it rushed around her, calculating her measurements. She waited until the tape measure was done, and she waited for her wand.
Together with her older brother, Millie entered the shop, she had really NO idea what was going to happen, but the thought that she would have her own wand was really cool, but also scary because… What would happen if she wouldn’t be a good witch? What if… she would make a fool of herself? Or… The little girl shook her head and held her breath, “be brave, be brave” muttered the little girl to herself while she looked nervously around her. “Come little sis, don’t worry” spoke her older brother while he walked toward the counter.
Relieved that she wasn’t alone, she followed her brother and looked up at the shopkeeper, knowing that her brother wanted HER to speak first, because it was HER wand, she took one last breath and spoke. “Eh… m- mister? C- can I buy my wand here?” The little girl stuttered while she looked up at the shopkeeper, her face was red, her hands were sweating and… she had really NO idea what would happen next…
Kace had to go get another wand. He happened to have left his wand on his desk and then it fell and his mother stepped on it and cracked it. Plus the wand he had was borrowed. He was so mad at her but she was going to make it up to her and give her a new one. He entered the wand shop and he heard the tinkle of the bell. He noticed it was quite busy.
He looked around and noticed he was getting measured with magical tape. It was quite cool getting his exact measurements. This was his first time doing this. But then once he was done, he waited for a wand maker to tell him what to do next.

Hawthorne opened the door to Olivanders, the bell above the door chimed and she shuffled inside, shutting the door behind her. Her straight brown hair just touched her shoulders. She wore black thick rimmed glasses that magnified her already big green eyes from behind them, her cheeks had freckles that peeked out from under the rims. She walked over to where her father had said she needed to get measured. She stood there and a flying measuring tape lifted off the counter and began measuring every possible anger of her body. It was odd, but she was used to magical items flying about in her flat.

The three-year old fourteen-year old chronologically Luc eventually headed down to Ollivander's. He was sick of WAITING on his older cousin, Wade to take him. Oh well. Luc had hoped perhaps his old wand would be repairable since it wasn't his fault it got snapped, but even his Uncle Charely said it wasn't so. He thought about pouting, before thinking of how much BETTER a new wand may be. Yep, so here he was.
He squinted at the measuring tape, yeah, he was not a big fan of being measured. Well, better this than someone else.. He still squinted at it before holding his arms out.. and letting it do its thing. His teeth bared a little, he wasn't going to laugh or giggle.. *Hehehe..* Okay, now he pouted after it was done from showing his little weakness before blinking around. So where could he go now?
