Not far down the hall from where the writers and editors work is the Editor-in-Chief's office. Editor-in-Chief, Basil Skeeter, prefers to keep his office a little more private and has thus removed the opaque glass walls and traded them for solid cream colored ones. Basil is usually sitting behind his desk with paperwork stacked to his left and a single pineapple placed on the edge of his desk to the right. Why a pineapple? You can try to get an answer out of him if you wish, but don't expect one. Basil is very private about certain things.

On the shelf behind Basil's desk, among all the library of books and under a clock, is a unique looking fish tank that has pygmy plimpies swiming about in it like adorable aquatic hamsters. To the left of this, over in the corner by one of the large windows that looks out onto the streets of Diagon Alley, is a sink that Basil uses whenever he enters and exits his office - and whenever one of his staffers hands in an assignment. You won't find any pygmy plimpies in here, however. Instead you will find a colorful assortment of mundane fish purchased in Muggle London.

Basil keeps his door locked at all times, so you must knock if you wish an audience with him. Have no fear, he is usually of a good disposition as long as he has a nice steaming cup of coffee in his mug.

... Emily saw what this man was doing, and she didn't like it. Verbal promises meant nothing to her... though she did make a mental note to pensieve this memory, should such an occasion warrant her to pull it out and grill him about it, again.
"I should hope so," she replied, but she was still not quite satisfied. If all he had to offer her was an apology and the whole 'We'll never do it again' thing, then there wasn't much trust for them to build on.

Only question was, was she going to continue buying the Prophet to read, as per usual. Or would she obtain used copies and critically analyse for any wrong-doings. Cause, paying for something you don't enjoy is frankly, stupid. And Emily was anything BUT stupid.

Again, she was saddened that Skeeter-boy-man, hadn't acknowledged her spiel about training or retraining... shame.

"I can escort myself out thank you..." she replied, standing and extending her hand to shake. She didn't need anyone to walk her anywhere. Durr.

Basil simply nodded his head and glanced at the parchment once more with all the notes and demands and a few thoughts he had on the matter. This was much more than an embarrassment to the Daily Prophet and himself - it was poor journalism.

What were those looks for? Didn't the woman know that the word of a Skeeter was worth their weight in galleons?

He then took her hand in his and offered a firm and promising handshake. "I will see about a retraction in regards to the article," he said, making sure to meet her eye. And now someone else to speak to about something wrong with the Prophet.

Merlin help him if it was for the same thing.

Words were no longer necessary. Emily nodded, emitting a low grunt in the process. Suuurree he'd see into it, it was his job. Though if the professionalism of the journalist was anything to go by then... well...

Emily retracted her hand, turned on her heel and left.

There. That was done. Now she could get on with far more pressing matters.

So Copernicus was a bit slow to sit down, but he finally took his seat at the man's invitation. It was so awkward to be here, especially when he didn't see much harm in the article in question. Then again, it was making his very hormonal wife see red, and Cope needed the peace at home more than he needed to make friends here.

Sadly.

"I appreciate your willingness to speak with you. I'd like to keep this as brief as possible," Cope nodded his head to the Editor. "There was an article published recently, a sort of 'where are they now' about Hogwarts Quidditch players."

Basil shuffled his feet and hurried behind the ~~tall~~ bloke and sat down at his desk, pushing aside the memo he had written just minutes ago about the other woman's complaint.

He would be hitting up the Leaky Cauldron after this.

"It is no trouble at all." Lies. This all was giving him a migraine. Even more so when the man explained why he was here. "Yes." Pointed pause. "Yes there was." Another pause. "Is there something the matter with it?"

Although the man really didn't need to answer that. The Editor-in-Chief assumed that there was or else the man would not be here in the first place. Time to assess the damages it seemed.

"Well." Ahem. Copernicus glanced around with an air of distraction before turning his attention back to the editor. What was he called again? Had the man even introduced himself? Erm, probably, but Copernicus was rather caught up in significantly more important thoughts at the moment.

"My wife was mentioned in the article. Celandine Kettleburn, formerly Toussaint. I cannot impress upon you how distressed she is about some misstatements that were made regarding her time at Hogwarts. And... she's just had our baby, and I think... could you just say you're awfully sorry, and I'll tell her you said so? You could write a letter if you have time."

Thankfully, although not so much under the circumstances, Basil just so happened to have said article in front of him - covered in red at that thanks to his previous visitor - and he scanned down the section looking for the woman in question's name. Ah yes, there it was.

Between this man, the previous woman, and several owls he had received since the article had been published Basil was tempted to fire Willow right on the spot. But that was mostly the migraine talking. Probably.

Pausing for a moment, Basil was reminded of when his ex-wife had had their children and how she had essentially turned into a troll at the tiniest thing being out of place. So really, sir, he understood how distressed he must be.

"Would you mind pointing out exactly where it is in the article that there are mistakes?" Short pause will he turned the article towards the man so he could point them out. Unless he had them memorized that is.

Copernicus leaned forward to look at the article in question, tracing his finger along the line in question. It was such a small thing, but it was making Cela anxious and crazy. "This part here," he read the line. "Celandine (Touissaint) Kettleburn, who played from 2065-72, is a spell inventor and mother of two married to Copernicus Kettleburn.."

He paused to look at the editor again. "She only played in two games during her entire time at Hogwarts, both times as a reserve player. And..." He smiled ruefully. "She's a mother of three. I'm afraid she thinks the baby feels left out. I personally doubt the baby thinks of more than eating and sleeping at this point, but perhaps someday she will feel left out."

Jorge had been at this paper for a few months now and felt he was getting his feet wet with this trial. He had done plenty of stories back at his old paper, but jumping into gossip, or well known media in a new place could be rather difficult so getting the opportunity to fall into such a high profiled trial well Jorge was more than just happy. It was interesting to sit and listen to as well, but his mind wasn't on that story no that wasn't why he was standing at the door he was standing at.

He had only spoken to his editor and chief a few times so taking a deep breath he knocked at the door. His note pad of unorganized notes in his hand Jorge began skimming them again. Chuckling when some not work related notes showed up, slipping them under the back page he continued to scan the notes to see which angles he wanted to take with his boss. Well why not do his usual Jorge style and just blurt out his thoughts. Closing the note book he waited for an answer from the other side.

Filing some more paper work away - and using his spray bottle of rubbing alcohol to cleanse his hands - Basil leaned back in his chair and began to wonder if it would be worth turning the top of his desk into another fish tank when he heard a knock at the door.

Making sure that his red converse were tied properly, he tugged on his plaid button up shirt and walked over to the door. Yep. Daily exercise quota reached. "Jorge," he said before shoving both hands into his pants pockets. "You need me to fact check something again or just happy to see me?"

He really needed to stop hiring people that were taller than him too. Or maybe he could make them all walk around on their knees. Hmm...

Jorge smiled as the door opened and he headed into the office shrugging at the man who had opened it, "Not today boss, but hopefully soon if you're bored or something." Joking with the boss was alright wasn't it. Of course it was Jorge made it okay if it wasn't. He sort of flopped in a chair before looking up, "It's alright if I sit, isn't it?" Maybe he should have asked before hand, but it was just easier to open his note book while sitting.

"While the trial is kind of at a newspaper stand still, I had been thinking about two other articles that might be interesting for the public." Honestly the trial could pick up any day, but why not think of the next thing to write. If you didn't know what to write next you could be out a job. "I know I'm new around the area and have never been to the school, but walking around I've heard things and even with this trial I've heard things about the discipline and safety the children have at that school. I just find that it could be a good story for us to cover, what do you think?"

He flipped through his notes some more, chicken scratch really. "Another one I was thinking about was about the transportation and how safe it was for pregnant women and/or which way is the safest." He had a sister expecting back in Rhonda so it had made him curious recently, but they were just thoughts. "Maybe you could point me into the direction of some people that could give me some information or quotes for these. I'm still trying to find my way around and get to know people."

Basil's eyes went all wide and scary when his employee just sat down unceremoniously in one of the chairs opposite his desk. Not that Basil wasn't for the laid back atmosphere. The man wore red converse for Merlin's sake. Still, it would have been respectful if Jorge had at least waited for Basil to offer.

Instead, the Editor-in-Chief walked back around to his desk and took a seat as well. Wait, no, this made Jorge look much taller than him. He was going to stand and pretend to look over some paperwork instead. "I'm counting on you for that de Talone trial," he said with a firm nod of the head. Of course, he was there getting the buzz as well, but through methods that only a true Skeeter knew how.

His eyes lit up at the mention of security at Hogwarts. Why yes, he would like to open up that can of worms. The redhead Headmistress just rubbed him the wrong way AND she had given his converse weird judgemental eyes. His own glanced over the piece of parchment he had in his hands and he let out an awkward and ugly MWAHA before he looked back at his journalist. "Yes. Do that. I have just the piece to follow it up too," he said as he tapped the piece of parchment in his hands. "An editorial from the woman herself."

He nodded a bit more as the man continued to speak, talking about his next idea. "Yes, because we would hate for one of them to explode," he nodded, his expression serious but tone, well, not so much. "Well, for all matters regarding Hogwarts you could owl the Headmistress, but that woman can spit fire so be on your guard. Or the Board of Governors president, Cassandra Rae-Branxton. In the Ministry, be sure to get in touch with Gabriela Schultz. She is the Department Head for Magical Transportation."

Jorge didn’t even notice the wide eyes of his boss, no his mind was on his work. Of course he wasn’t going to let the boss man down on the trial. “Yep. Yep I’m on it don’t you worry about that trial. Interesting case really, were you around when that actually happened?” He knew it wasn’t horribly long ago, but since he wasn’t even in the same country let alone the area when it all went down it interested him. Someone using children to keep their youth, it’s fascinating really, horrible, but fascinating.”[/b] He fell into his own thoughts about the case and some of the people he had noticed in the court room, some he’d like to know better heh.

Brown eyes looking up from his notes as boss man said to do the piece on the school. A smirk crossed his face, “This school seems to have many things happen in it from what I’ve been hearing around the street. If they let things in that school like cursed objects and dementors, I bet their staff is something to look into.” If a school can be so careless as this one there had to be a mix of crazy going on in that staff. He couldn’t wait to get his nose into it. Oh a piece from the headmistress herself well that he would like to get his hands on. “Oh really, something about how great the school and the safety of the children are?” A smirked crossed his face knowing that she would of course say that about her own school. No one wanted to be the failure especially if you are the leader.

Chuckling, Basil seemed to have an interesting sense of humor, Jorge was intrigued by it. “No we do not need any of that, so I think that’s why the article could be interesting. I would think the healers would stress it, but women seem to lose common sense during that time, so maybe another piece of information on it could help.” Not that he had personal experience just what his friends had said about their wives. Honestly it didn’t seem worth it in his eyes, but to each their own he guessed. “Any experience with this boss?” Was the man married, Jorge wasn’t even sure. Ah he was giving important information, Jorge quickly grabbed his quill and opened his notes scribbling down the names, smirking that the fact that most were women, he could usually pull his charm out to get the information he needed, he certainly preferred to work that way it was more fun. Spit fire, huh? A nice challenge in his eyes, “We’ll see about that.. I’ll have a talk with her soon and the others of course.” This had his mind going with what he could ask and the angle he wanted to go at each of these, he’d start with the school story that seemed the more challenging of the two.

Basil shook his head. "I was here in London, but not yet working here at the Daily Prophet. I was over at Witch Weekly back then," he replied while glancing at some more documents in his hands. "Ironically enough, we were doing a spread on how to keep your skin looking younger and healthy. That was one spread that never matured."

And yes, he did laugh at his own terrible joke.

He nodded some more. "Yes, but we could put some of the blame for the lack of security and resources at the funding of the school. What with having their vault broken into last year and the very deed to the school stolen like that." He pursed his lips for a moment so he resembled a duck. "We need to approach this situation delicately though, with that competition going on and all." He had another writer on assignment for that. "We want to somehow still paint the school in a good light and encourage the wizarding public to support it and donate when they can. This doesn't mean we can't point out the holes in it, of course. Sob stories make for good business." He chuckled at the next comment. "You could say that."

Lose common sense. That was an understatement. "Yes, I have known a few situations where..." And then Basil just stopped talking entirely. Experience. Yes. He had some of that. Three times to be precise and what had it gotten him? A divorce and zero custody of his children. He hadn't seen his youngest since they were 2-years-old. He was positive that even if he saw her now she wouldn't know who he was. So instead of answering he did what he always did in uncomfortable situations. He joked. "Can't say that I have ever been pregnant," he replied while patting his belly and setting the remaining paperwork he was holding on his desk. "I'll be sure to write you a report if and when it happens though."

So this was interesting hearing about where his boss had worked before. Witches Weekly well that was very interesting. “Do anything really interesting over there?” most likely picked up some witches who were fans of the magazine. Hmm the thought played in Jorge’s mind. “Well I can see why it didn’t get published. Seems there were quite a few students involved with this. The woman doesn’t look like a mastermind, but I guess looks can be deceiving.” he chuckled, “Literally in this case” alright maybe a bad joke, but he was still laughing at it.

He leaned back in his chair stroking his chin a bit listening to Basil, “I heard about that. Did they ever find out who was in that vault?” It just seemed odd that no one had, but he really didn’t look into it much either, so maybe he missed that part of the puzzle. Approach the situation delicately, “Don’t worry boss, I’ll do my best to treat it with the best care.” Starting with the headmistress possibly, but if she was as bad as some said she was even the way his boss walked around her, maybe he would go to some other’s first. “Oh yes the competition, well we can go about it as a did you know, but possibly angle it that it’s not the school as a whole just some problems that need fixed.” That’s one of the angles he was going for, but he would wait to see what story jumped out at him. Sob stories, hmmm, “Possibly find some students that might have first hand experience both good and bad.” He himself hated sob stories, because sobbing was just uncomfortable, but if it kept his job he could do it.

A small chuckle left him again, “Don’t worry, I like challenges.” The boss man seemed to possibly fear the spit fire headmistress, to Jorge this was sounding more and more fun. “Is the woman seen out much or just hidden in that castle? What about personal status? Married, Single?” All things he needed to know going in so he knew how to approach the woman. Bringing his charm out was easy, it was knowing how much of it to use.

Switching gears Jorge was thinking about the transportation article when his brown eyes lazily looked up when Basil stopped midsentence. Something told him this topic bothered his boss. Not sure why and not really wanting to pry more, it was his boss he dropped it, but laughed, “I don’t know, I think a good experiment wouldn’t be bad for news purposes.” He grinned at his boss. “I could always make you pregnant so then you can try the different transportations and tell me how it feels with all three. It wouldn’t be dangerous since you aren’t really pregnant.” He smirked jokingly towards his boss. He would know he was joking, well he hoped anyway.

"It's a witches magazine," he replied with a less than enthusiastic shrug of the shoulders. "I found it hard to focus the staff every time the Most Charming Smile spread was coming out. All the giggling and swooning over coffee in the break room and during working hours. My heart just does not go pitter patter at a man's smile." Not to mention the hallway leading to his office that had framed photos of all the winners.

If he never saw another image of Gilderoy Lockhart smiling like a hyena again he could die a happy man.

Again he shook his head. "Nope and Law Enforcement have no leads last I heard. Not that I would expect them to be working on such matters now. Not with that de Talone woman standing trial now. I hear she is quite the handful." And now he was nodding. Good, yes, that angle sounded good. "Good. Security seems to be a serious problem these days. Both Gringotts and Hogwarts, both supposed to be the safest places to keep things, are certainly not living up to their standards as of late." At least they had the Ministry?

"I hear the woman has a passion for fashion, so chances are you will find her shopping for expensive clothing," he chuckled to himself. He raised an eyebrow at the man. "Going to flirt the information out of her, are you?"

Basil was just about to summon himself a cup of coffee when he realized that his mug wasn't in its usual spot beside the pineapple. Must have left it in the break room earlier that morning while he had been reading over the next issue of the Prophet going to press. Although it was a rather good thing that he had no coffee, because he would have spit it out right in Jorge's face. "You're not my type," he said in a rather deadpan fashion. "So you'll have to go about your experiment with someone else." Which reminded him of something. "Although," he said as he looked through birth record announcements. "Here, a Hogwarts professor gave birth several months ago, a one Seren Bentley. She might be able to answer questions for you."

Witches Weekly.. hmm Jorge had heard of it, but magazines were never his cup of tea. The fashion world was something he would rather stay away from when it came to writing. Now the news was always something he enjoyed. There really was no better drama to read about than other people's happenings. Jorge snickered, "I bet that was fun all the witches drooling over the pages." He probably would have at least acted interested so get some added bonus points with the witches. Always better in a work place if the women were happy, because if they weren't Jorge had learned early to walk away. "Don't think I'll ever find myself wanting to work for that type of place."

Not that he would expect them to be working on such matters, "Are they so short staffed that their focus leaves a hot case to one that already seems to have guilty as a verdict in a court room?" That seemed interesting. "You would think parents would not be happy nor the Board that the ministry is letting the case go cold." Interesting though, Jorge's interest was peaked by this. Was something going on in the MLE that could have issues. An brow raised at the thought, but he let it sit in the back of his mind for now. A handful, from what Jorge saw she seemed like an hair headed witch that needed to be at Mungos maybe.

"If the school was that secure then you would think there would be more clues, unless the Headmistress herself had a hand in the troublesome doings." Inside job, classic.. This was getting more and more interesting and he couldn't wait to get his nose into it. A smirk hit his face and then a chuckle, "You would be surprised as to what information a smile and a few compliments could get out of some witches." A bat of the eye lashes, seeming mysterious at times, he knew all the tricks. "Fashion though? I met someone that might be able to help me win her over that way if I must." He knew just the resource to use for that one.

Jorge almost fell out of his chair, not his type. "Boss..." He couldn't even get it out from laughing, taking a few deep breaths before continuing, "That was a good one boss, but I was meaning magic and all. Believe my you are not mine either. I prefer longer locks and possibly a bit more soft in the features." Boss man was funny though, really that was a good one. He looked at the name, another professor. Maybe he could tackle two hippogriffs with one pheasant with this one. "Got it boss, I'll send her an owl for some thoughts." It didn't go unnoticed that this was a man that had many names in his pocket.

After leaving the reception area, Roxanne made her way down to the Editor-in-Chief's office and tried the door. Tried being the operative word, since said door seemed to be locked. A move she could respect, since she herself liked to keep her own office locked when not in it. So, she stood in front of it and waited, organizing her thoughts all the while.

No longer doing the bathroom shuffle, Basil strut his way back towards his office and slowed down just a tad when he saw the woman was waiting outside. The problem wasn't that he thought she would have given up and gone back to the Ministry or anything like that. It was more that she was............tall.........er than him.

With a flick of his wand he unlocked the door and continued to walk right past her without pausing too long. The sooner he was back at his desk the better he would feel. "If you will just follow me inside," he said with a small beckon of the hand as he paused at the sink by the door to wash his hands. Again. Once he was done, he made his way back towards his desk and immediate sat down. Extra big cushions made all the difference. "Have a seat, if you will, and please don't mind the quill."

Which was referring to his great grandmother's quill that was currently fluttering nearby, ready to write down whatever it was the woman was about to share.

As the man came back from where he'd gone, Roxanne noticed something. He was rather short. But she gave no indication that she'd noticed as she followed him into his office. And washed his hands? Um, didn't they have sinks in the restroom? Or was he just terribly OCD? In which case, the hand washing and even the sink in the room made sense. Just in case, she was very careful what she touched, so as not to agitate him.

Which meant sitting gingerly in the indicated seat and giving the quill a mere cursory glance.

Ready?

Giving an affirmative nod to proceed with what it was charmed to do, he looked towards his visitor expectantly for her to begin telling him everything she had come to say...only to be met with silence. Was she not going to talk now? His little disclaimer towards the quill had been his way of signalling for her to spill the beans.

Clearing his throat, he leaned forward a bit in his and rested his elbows on his desk. "You said you had some information for me?"

Sometimes you had to be so blunt with people.

After getting a safe, Muggle-free distance away from the café, Tori apparated straight to her boss's door. As cool as she thought it would be to get herself arrested, she wanted to write a smashing headline more. Besides that, she'd always thought her first arrest would be alongside Paulie and with Aspen doing the arresting.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. The redhead banged her fist against Basil's door. He'd BETTER be in. She could have sent him a patronus or an owl, but he was probably taking his lunch inside anyway. "OPEN UP, Boss, it's your favoooooorite ginger here!" she shouted at the door for good measure.

And then, while she waited, she took out her compact and strawberry lip gloss, and did a quick touch up. One never knew when a cute blonde Auror might need persuading... to stop being a dunderhead. One never knew!

Rubber gloves on and with a toothbrush in hand, Basil held the pineapple that was always on his desk in place with the other hand as he brushed each of its green leaves it rigorously precisely 111 times. He was somewhere around 87 with his internal counting when there came a knock at the door - TOTALLY throwing him off and making him lose track of what number he was on, by the way.

Cursing under his breath as he set the toothbrush down on his desk, still with his rubber gloves on by the way, he reached for his wand and gave it a flick to open the door.

"I would prefer if you would do your make up in the loo rather than outside my office," he grumbled. He didn't want to have to go around cleaning up fallen bits of powder foundation thank you very much.

"I was just applying a touch up," Tori replied, tossing her makeup in her bag and closing it without missing a beat. She sashayed into the office and didn't bother taking a seat, as they were rather in a hurry. She did, however, stop and stare at Basil. And his gloves. And his pineapple.

"That's real fruity, you know," she pointed out with a smirk. Get it? Fruity? Cleaning the pineapple? It was weird. "But we don't have time to beat around the pineapple," oh the puns she could roll with! "Jorge was arrested. It's all puffed-up police brutality by the MLE." Tori rolled her eyes. "The thing is that I was sort of there when Jorge got arrested, and I miiiiight have insinuated that he is my client," though she didn't say what he KIND of client, so.... "so we have to go bail him out."

She tilted her head and smiled at him. "K?"

"Well, you missed a spot," he said with a grin. Just to push her buttons a little since she was always pushing his.

Methodically folding up his gloves once he had removed them, Basil tucked them away in his desk drawer and set the tooth brush next to them before closing it. He would have to start over with his pineapple cleaning later. Once she left. And stopped making bad jokes.

.....................AND DROPPING INFORMATION ON HIM LIKE THAT.

Even if he wasn't all THAT surprised.

"I bet Law Enforcement wasn't the only thing that was puffed up," he said while leaning his elbows against his desk and tapping his forehead 11 times with his index finger. Client? Oh Merlin what sort of hot mess had he hired?
