| | Currency Exchange and Potions Market Counters Aligning both sides of the main hall are long counters made of a polished rich dark wood. Behind them sit goblins, witches and wizards alike, some appearing more welcoming than others, but all ready to service you for a fee that's been debated by some of the cheaper or less wealthy wizards and witches.
These counters are mainly for those needing to exchange money. It is strongly recommended that whole amounts be presented to the goblins as they irritate easily. Trying your hand at the potions market is also done here as well, and it's recommend that one look carefully at the different descriptions of the listed companies provided before speaking to a goblin about making an investment. Inquiring about bank tours, and garnering the assistance of Gringotts Cursebreakers are also done at these counters.
Please form an orderly line and the next available attendant will be right with you. All are expected to be ready to present their wand and key for inspection. |

Apparently, this is where they should be. After examining every counter and... the creatures, James Charlton had decided that this was where they exchanged money, so he approached the counter with his two sons behind him and tried to make an eye contact with a dwarf.

Tex tapped two galleons together absentmindedly. Chink chink chink. She watched as a witch passed by and tried to match the clicks in time with her heels.
The goblin was a little... a lot bored.
Ooooh. And who was this? A wizard. A wizard to her window. Hmm. She looked him up and down. He seemed to be avoiding eye contact. Not a fan of goblins? "How may I assist...?" she asked continuing to watch him and the young children.

| Satisfied Neon Just after walking through the bank doors, Ariel removed the wad of Muggle money from her capris pocket and clenched it rolled up in her fist. It was nerve-wracking being responsible for so much cash in such a crowded, mostly unfamiliar place. She'd done this before with her mum, but this was the first time coming into Gringotts - even Diagon Alley - alone. But she made it this far without being pick-pocketed, and now felt comfortable to have the money in plain sight. This is the place to do so, after all.
The young girl walked up to the counter and held her money up for the goblin to see. Goblins, by the way, were odd. They were the magical creatures she was most familiar with, but they were odd. And a little gross. But for some reason, trusted with the community's money. And because of that, Ariel forced a small smile to her face. "Good morning."

Who dared leave it in such a state? There were odd numbers everywhere! The goblin just couldn't take the sight of it anymore. She focused on it as a child approached her counter. And she continued to focus on it for several seconds before it was nice and even.
There.
Much better.
Now she could talk. "Good? Yes. I suppose it is." Especially now that everything was orderly. "What brings you here today, little human girl?"

You know she wasn't asking, she-goblin. It was a means of greeting was all. So if it wasn't a good morning, just...don't say anything. "I need wizard coins," Ariel said, pushing the £200 total across the counter.

She looked up at the ceiling for two seconds doing some quick mental calculations. "That'll convert to 40 galleons, minus the 6%, I'll just lower that down to 2 galleons." Even numbers were best numbers. "Which brings your total to 38 galleons." She counted out the counts and set the stacks on the counter with a clink. "Anything else?"

Even numbers were best numbers. "Which brings your total to 38 galleons." She counted out the counts and set the stacks on the counter with a clink. "Anything else?" 6%? What on earth was the 6% for? Was there a fee to exchange money? That seemed ridiculous. All she wanted back was exactly what she was giving, just in a different form. ...What did the goblins do with the Muggle money, anyway? Did they actually have a use for it? Ariel's head was suddenly swimming with questions and she made a mental note to look this up later. About the 6%, she wasn't really forward enough to ask about it.
Her eyes widened when the goblin set all those coins onto the counter. Those....looked heavy. The girl was about to have a long day ahead of her, hauling the money along with all the things she was buying with it. She produced a small purse out of her pocket and slid the coins off the counter into it. "Thank you," she bid the goblin, then shook her head, "That's all."

She was just curious if the small human was able to put it in the bag without spilling any. That, and she was waiting for the small human to move away.

| Gryffinclaw-Ravendor • The REAL Hermione Granger
Sarah hadn't been to Diagon Alley in a while. She had been to its counterparts in the Muggle World and its fellow wizarding equivalent in every continent, but she likes Diagon Alley best. It was.. hers. Of course not legally hers, but it was familiar to her.
Before she could get shopping though, she first had to convert some of her muggle money to its wizarding equivalent.
She walked up to the counter.. she loved the polished wood. If the goblin wasn't so close she would have smoothed her fingers across it. "Hi" she said with a smile. Hello was a word invented 200 years before in order for people on the other end of the muggle telephone to know that you were there. "I would like to exchange my 150 pounds for wizarding currency" Sarah said confidently. She was 21 years old now, and the money was part of an advance she got on her muggle novel.
She held out her money. That was a lot of money. Out of the corner of her eye and looked to make sure that there was no one to snatch it from her. Just in case,, she put her hand on her wand in her holster.

Which is weird, you'd think people needed money all the time.
Magic humans were strange.
Oh good. Entertainment.
She extended her hand and counted the British muggle money. 150 pounds as started. "That exchanges to 30 galleons." she said. She counted out a stack of coins onto the desk. "And the fee, of course." she said taking back one of the gold coins. The witch was now free to take the rest of the 29 coins. "Anything else I can do for you?"

Gwen was still embarrassed from having gone into Sugarplums without money, and she had forgotten that goblins worked the banks in Gringotts. (In Wilson Alley, they used magically altered ATM's. She supposed that America was just better at keeping up with Muggle technology.)
She glanced nervously at the goblin before saying, "Um, I have $30 in American dollars that I'd like to exchange for, um, some galleons." She knew her Chicago accent stood out too much in this huge place. She blushed. Way to work on your social skills, Gwen, she thought.
Gwen assumed the currency exchange goblin had fallen asleep. "Um, excuse me," she said loudly. "Goblin, er, um,"

Gwen assumed the currency exchange goblin had fallen asleep. "Um, excuse me," she said loudly. "Goblin, er, um," Tex made her way onto her stool. She was distracted by a flier she had picked up in the goblin break room. "Yes. Yes, of course." she said taking the money from the human child. She didn't sound like the normal ones. The girl must not have been from nearby.
The goblin inspected the money. American dollars. The human child must have been from there. "Thirty American Dollars. That comes to 3 Galleons, 13 Sickles, and 27 Knuts." she said counting out the wizarding coins. She set them on the counter and then slid them across. She'd let the exchange fee slide because the girl had been waiting for her to get back from break. "Thank you for choosing Gringotts." Not that they had much of a choice. Such were the perks of being the only trusted bank. "Come again soon."
