The transition from October to November has definitely been extreme. Just that morning a glistening layer of frost had was seen on the ground and remained while you completed your S.O.R.E. before breakfast, and it has been forecasted that mountains of snow might be making an appearance in the near future. Brace yourselves. Winter is coming, and it looks like it is going to be a very long and cold one this year.
As you make your way out to the Clock Tower Entrance for an oddly scheduled Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson after a long day of classes and post-supper, the chill in the air is almost unbearable and your breath can be seen still in visible puffs as the remainder of the sunset lingers in the horizon. Matching the weather perfectly — almost too perfectly — stands Headmaster Scrimgeour at the threshold of the entrance, his back to the courtyard and wooden bridge beyond. His arms are crossed and his face looks sterner than ever as little flecks of white being trickling down from the sky.
Being that you are not in the classroom setting, there are no desks for your to sit at. There is not even the slightest indication about what the topic of today's lesson will be about. With those icy blue eyes watching you like a hawk, you had better stand firmly in position and wait for further instruction.
OOC: Welcome to the first role-played Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson of the term. Please note that your student character would be familiar with Scrimgeour's no-nonsense style of teaching, his more practical methods, and his classroom rules by now as they have been having lessons with him for a couple months now. Though the lesson has stated, feel free to jump in at any time!
Casting The Tickling Charm had no effect on the paralyzed Red Cap that was still clinging onto the girl. The same could be said for the Tickling Hex. It did move ever so slightly, but definitely not enough for the human to be free of it. There was only one spell that would do the trick, a more general counter-spell.
As the other spells went flying, two Stickfast Hexes managed to hit the same baby Red Cap. It let out high-pitched squeals as it tried with all its might to continue moving forward, but the beast's feet were stuck to the floor of the forest.
The Full-Body Bind whizzed by the other's head, as did Arresto Momentum. But the Impedimenta Jinxed hit, stopping the Red Cap for a fleeting ten seconds. It was enough for the Freezing Charm to hit it square in the chest, immobilizing it.
Finally. They managed to immobilize all of the Red Caps directly attacking them. She watched as Hanna detached the Red Cap mother from her leg and then disposed of both of them into the hole as per the Professors' orders. She followed suit settling to just levitate them. "Wingardium Leviosa." She moved one and then the other.
Kaitlynn turned back to the older Ravenclaw who looked dead on her feet and like she was in need of medical attention. She wasn't sure what to do other than to clean the area and wrap it. She reached into her pocket and pulled out an ace bandage. She had gotten used to having it with her because she was known to sprain more body parts than the average person lately. "Hanna, you wanna clean and wrap your leg with this?" It'll at least hold her over until they made it back to the castle.

Between the three of the Ravenclaw girls they had defeated the evil red cap twins. Juni just looked around making sure that there wasn’t any other red caps lingering around ready and waiting to attack. Especially while Chloe was busy tending to Jessa leg. That wasn’t the case since the Headmaster had giving them instructions to get all of the red caps in the hole just over there.
The sixth year decided to take the stunned red cap that was laying by Jessa. She pointed her want and said ”Petrificus Totalus.” Just to make sure that it wasn’t going to move any time soon. Then she said ”Wingardium Leviosa.” To move the red cap over to the hole where the other red caps were. The Ravenclaw was feeling extra relieved that this lesson was coming to close.

As for the paralyzed Red Cap that was latched onto the body of the human boy, it soon was removed. It lay on the ground, harder than a stone. That was one less problem that they needed to worry about now.
The Red Caps in the tree, though, dodged the disarming spell. They then dropped from the tree, falling not on the ground but on the shield that had been created. They wasted to not to start bashing it with their bones.

Naturally, as was to be expected, they began bashing against it with their bones...but Derf felt a foreign sense of confidence as he watched this occur. Confidence and accomplishment. In light of how his boulder dogs had done absolutely nothing against the rotting bodies of inferi last term...it was nice to see that he could protect people, you know?
Knowing his shield would hold, he turned his attention back tot he pair of Gryffindor first years. Er, well, back to them and then the red cap laying on the ground that was still very much a liability once the spell wore off. Thankfully, or more coincidentally really, the Headmaster seemed to think so too. "Depulso!" he commanded, his wand thrust at the immobile creature to fling it into the hole.
"Just...try to hold still for now while I see about bandaging that up, yeah?" he tried to reassure Lucas. How had that gone again? Wheat? Rye? Rice? OH YES RICE! Er...considering there were puncture wounds and all that...maybe not the right grain for this. "Stella, you focus on getting those two into that hole. Shouldn't be too hard to hit them since they are distracted by trying to break the shield."
Giving Lucas a bit of a nod, he would have told him to do the same but...you know...might get a bit complicated while bandaging and stuff was going on. His wand out, Derf conjured a bit of water to clean the immediate area of the wound - at least the blood - and with another flourish cast Ferula to wrap it, snugly, to hopefully stop and prevent any further bleeding.
"Reckon you can give banishing them into the hole a go too?" he asked with a small wink, his confidence on the rise.
Even if red caps were nothing compared to inferi.
If his back didn’t hurt and he didn’t feel completely useless to the point that he was sad, Lucas would’ve found it VERY funny that the Red Cap that had scratched him was now stuck in a tree. It was........ a funny sight to see. Just look at it!
He had to admit, though: the shield was cool to see. Not that..... he could really...... see it but the Red Caps were bumping against it and it left the first year in awe. He even whispered a small, "Wow!" as he watched it happen. While being on the floor.
.........
Lucas shook his head and tried to sit up to HELP but- "Ow ow ow ow ow!" He winced and almost wanted to try and push through it - because the others needed HELP, you know! What if they came back?! - but then, the Hufflepuff Prefect was talking to him...... about....... bandaging.
UH.
His eyes widened. Sure, it was reassuring and he didn’t want to disobey the older Hufflepuff but bandaging sounded painful. It felt painful. It felt like he had a battle scar, as if he fought off as many Red Caps as he could when in reality, he’d given one a piggyback ride and it did not like it one bit. That’s what happened.
And now he had to get a bandage on his battle scars.
........ Great.
This only left him feeling worse, something he thought about while the Hufflepuff Prefect was bandaging him up. It left a weird feeling in his stomach. He wanted, more than anything, to go back to the castle and ask Emma for some cuddles because he was sure that would fix all of this but he couldn’t. He didn’t dare move an inch, not even when water was added and the bandage came from....... nowhere? He had a lot to learn, including the vanishing spell that the boy had cast earlier.
When the bandage was done and wrapped and looked MUCH neater than anything he could’ve done, Lucas gingerly moved until he was in a sitting position. He had earth on his robes and face and his stomach felt flattened from the impact but, well, there was no more bleeding, right? "Oh hey, that feels much better. Thanks!" Maybe, after all of this, he could make up some kind of story about the battle scar. Something he could get away with.
Maybe.
But right now, he had some Red Caps to banish, as per the older boy’s suggestion. He gave him the biggest beam he could muster before pointing his wand towards one of the Red Caps near the edge of the shield. "Depulso!"

It was an unfortunate thing, having her hard work go down the drain like that when Juni took her stunned red cap and moved it to the hole. Real shame. A bleeding leg Chloe had every intention of bandaging and no dark creature to sure for it. Were the memory of her trying to salvage another dark creature and being warned against it not still fresh in her mind (trying to keep the inferi when everyone else was trying to defeat it), Jessa may have protested.
As it stood, she already now had detention with the Headmaster and didn’t fancy having him tack on another one for directly disobeying instructions.
It seemed that as quickly as her golden moment had come, it had also gone. There would be no new test subjects up in her lab to make her happy and there would likely be no peace in the remainder of the lesson if she didn’t get a step on things.
With the most reluctant of sighs, Jessa levitated the other red cap they’d been tackling together and begrudgingly sent it tumbling into the hole just a ways off. If Hirsch was still around, she may have resolved to turn up at the man’s office afterward to ask if she really could keep two of them but not Scrimgeour and not when he was already displeased with her for her tardiness.
The Professor-student dynamic was so terribly off this year that she didnt know where to begin.

Jackson had barely caught sight of the older Red Cap, and stopped in his tracks. The commotion had definitely grown exponentially, but he couldn’t help but furrow his brow briefly as he noticed this Red Cap wasn’t being too aggressive. Jackson had his wand at the ready and knew that he couldn’t take any chances. If this had been a sneaky Red Cap, it could have severely injured him by now. “Petrificus Totalus!” he called at it. No need to actually hurt her, if it wasn’t needed… right? As the Headmaster proceeded with the next task, Jackson turned back to the Red Cap in front of him. “Wingardium Leviosa!” he cast, putting his first Red Cap in the hole Sorry… he thought to himself as he watched the older looking Red Cap disappear into the hole. He looked for others that were either slow or injured, just to get them out of the way. “Depulso!” He looked over as Kaitlynn had offered up a bandage to Hanna. “Good thinking!” he remarked in her direction, proud of the claw baby. He reminded himself of the task at hand and went back to collecting Red Caps. There was one more… and another.

Riding high on the fact that her shield had stood up against the Red Cap trying to break it, Archer put what was probably a little too much effort into her next spell, causing the creature to bump its head hard against the side of the hole on its way down. "Oops," she commented with a chuckle. "Bye, little Red Cap!" Wait, could they do that with the Headmaster? No? Yeah, it probably wasn't a very good idea. The thought was tempting, though.

Look at these kiddos following the stereotypes. Beth and Maxton were HIDING behind him. Chase scoffed and took a step forward being even more brazen then before. RED CAPS didn't scare him unlike the others who were cowering in fear.
Man... The spell didn't turn the Red Cap COMPLETELY into a worm. Instead it had turned the creature into something gory and awful. One slimy arm that was large but at least the Red Cap was now sort of handicapped? Chase would take it as a victory. He watched as the stunner broke the Red Cap's bone and the creature sent out an awful cry. He readied his wand and prepped two spells. The first was a stunning one. "Stupefy!" he cried before following it up with a Flipendo. He was hoping to hurl the creature into the nearest hole. "Beth, Maxton? I hope you guys have another spell headed your way..." he spoke aloud before casting a shield in front of the group.

Flourishing his wand at one of the remaining red caps in their proximity, Derf cast a surprisingly accurate Stupefy at the creature and struck it right between the eyes before finishing the job with another Banishing Charm. How many had there been around them? That was probably something he should have been a bit more actively paying attention to and HAD recalled prior to his Shield Charm going up. Complacency in safety, perhaps?
Though he did not have time to linger too much on counting as one of his first year companions got to work. "Nice one, Lucas!" he chirped, offering the boy two thumbs up and a grin. Thankfully unaware to the inner thoughts of the younger Gryffindor, or perhaps unfortunately because now he couldn't really do or say anything about it, he instead trained his bright blues back to their surroundings and any wandering red caps.
Which, well, it seemed they had accumulated a few more pounding on his shield angrily and...well...he almost felt pity for the things on their lack of self preservation, you know? With so many spells, untrained and not, flying about and their companions being hurtled backward by all sorts of magical methods...well...he would have kinda hoped they would retreat.
Still, not wanting to risk anyone else being bitten or worse, he gave his wand another twirl and sent a few more packing.

After giving his instructions, Scrimgeour allowed for his shield to disintegrate. Now that the Red Caps that had been pestering him had found a new temporary home, the shield wasn't needed anymore. His wand was still at the ready, in case any of the Red Caps decided to target him or if one of the children decided to try something they would end up regretting.
He still remained standing by the large hole, now watching as Red Cap after Red Cap started filling it up. Some, he noted, were unconscious, others in full-body binds or froze, and there were the occasional few that were ... still moving.
They were all lucky that hole was too deep for the Dark creatures to easily climb out of.
"Alright," the old man grunted, satisfied just enough with the students' performance. "Class is now over. Back in formation and up to the castle we go. You are to head directly to your common rooms, unless you need to make a stop at the hospital wing." He casted one last glance at the Red Caps in the hole and waited for the students to start walking before he trailed along beside them out of the forest.
OOC: This post is long overdue. RL has been taking quite a bit of my SS time lately, so I apologise. Regardless, I hope you all enjoyed the extra few days of posting. ;)
The DADA lesson has officially come to a close. I will leave this thread open for another 24-ish hours if you would like to post your student heading back to the castle. Thank you all for attending!
Jackson managed to get quite a few of the Red Caps in before the headmaster spoke up. Jackson wiped his face off, unsure of what was dirt, sweat, or blood... Gross. Luckily, he had gotten out of all this with only a few cuts and red marks. He looked around for anyone who may need help getting back to the castle, getting into formation. He personally did not need the Hospital Wing, so he would be heading right up to the Tower... wiith maybe a pit stop at the Prefect's bathroom. As they got ready to head back up to the castle, Jackson nodded at the Headmaster to thank him for the lesson.
