Default DADA Lesson

The transition from October to November has definitely been extreme. Just that morning a glistening layer of frost had was seen on the ground and remained while you completed your S.O.R.E. before breakfast, and it has been forecasted that mountains of snow might be making an appearance in the near future. Brace yourselves. Winter is coming, and it looks like it is going to be a very long and cold one this year.

As you make your way out to the Clock Tower Entrance for an oddly scheduled Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson after a long day of classes and post-supper, the chill in the air is almost unbearable and your breath can be seen still in visible puffs as the remainder of the sunset lingers in the horizon. Matching the weather perfectly — almost too perfectly — stands Headmaster Scrimgeour at the threshold of the entrance, his back to the courtyard and wooden bridge beyond. His arms are crossed and his face looks sterner than ever as little flecks of white being trickling down from the sky.

Being that you are not in the classroom setting, there are no desks for your to sit at. There is not even the slightest indication about what the topic of today's lesson will be about. With those icy blue eyes watching you like a hawk, you had better stand firmly in position and wait for further instruction.

OOC: Welcome to the first role-played Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson of the term. Please note that your student character would be familiar with Scrimgeour's no-nonsense style of teaching, his more practical methods, and his classroom rules by now as they have been having lessons with him for a couple months now. Though the lesson has stated, feel free to jump in at any time!

A stunning spell the whizzed by his capped head, which went flying to who knows where. The beast didn't care. He was ready to swing that femur bone of his again.
Chase glanced to his right and saw Beth appear out of nowhere. Huh? Where had SHE come from? He didn't have time to ask her or tease her about coming to his aid? They had to watch out for these pests bouncing around. He saw the beast head towards a Ravenclaw boy and Chase reacted without another thought. He had to disable this creature's offensive nature. A smirk played on his lips and he, almost, chuckled at his thought. Heh. He pushed (sorta half gently) Beth behind him and then cast a jinx. "Vermiculus!"

Have fun being a worm! ...if the spell hit the creature, that is.

Now who's the prey? Ha!

His stunning spell had missed, but that didn't matter because this Gryffindor kid seemed to know exactly what he was doing. Sure, Max was confident when it came to spellwork but not when there was a threat. Coping under pressure wasn't his thing and he half wondered if he could get away with hiding behind Chase as well. Call him a coward, he didn't want to get bludgeoned.

But just in case, he followed the jinx with another stunner because apparently that's all he could remember right now. "Stupefy!"

Stella's eyes widened in horror as she seen Lucas fighting one of them off for dear life. " Get off him and leave him alone!" she said bravely not knowing where that came from. "Oh great...more came to say hi!" she said looking at the one who dropped down. Helping Lucas get the paralyzed one off him she pointed her wand at the one that dropped down.

She wasn't afraid of these little ugly Creatures she was a Gryffindor! She was a strong and brave lioness no stupid red caps better mess with her! Her wand pointed at the one who dropped down she smirked at it.

"Stupefy!"

She might be a first year, but she was angry that these red caps attacked her friend! She was sure that would teach it not to mess with them, she could only hope. "A..Are you ok Lucas?" she asked him. " Relashio!" she said pointing it at the red cap that was stuck on Lucas hoping to get it off him.

"Prehenso," he muttered to himself, intent quite clear and relief washing over him as he felt his hand tingle and feel a bit like sandpaper when he rubbed his fingers together. Nice to know that under some pressure and nervousness he could still perform a bit of magic, yeah?

Gripping Charm in full effect, and just in time for that matter, Derf's sense went into complete overload when the creatures attacked. Flashbacks to the grindylows of last term in FULL effect, his muscles were acting on pure instinct when his wand flourished about himself. "Loricatus!"

That had been one for his OWL's. He may not be particularly proficient at offensive magic, but when it came to defensive...he was fairly confident.

It was the scream that alerted him first and sent the sixth year spinning in the direction of the younger Gryffindor. Thankful that he had aid, Derf decided to fix his attention on the two first years since, well, they WERE first years. Though he loathed it when people thought of him in this manner when he had been one himself...life had an ironic way of turning things on their heads and making hypocrites of us all now, didn't it?

From his spot, he could see perfectly the trio of red caps in the tree. Well, duo now that one had jumped from its branches on to the pair of lions. "Expelliarmus!" he shouted, shooting off a few spells towards the arm red caps as he came to a stop beside Stella and Lucas. Stella seemed to, mostly, have a handle on things on the ground which meant he was going to turn his attention upwards to the trees. "I'll keep the others away, you keep your focus on Lucas," he nodded to her before flourishing his wand again to protect their group from an further strikes from above or the ground. "Protego totalum."

THIS. RED CAP. WAS NOT. LETTING. GO!

AND HE DID NOT LIKE IT.

Lucas wriggled a bit more, as if to shake the creature off, but something else happened that distracted him even more.

..............

"AAAAAAAAAAARGH!"

Maybe all that wriggling didn't help, maybe it was because the Red Cap was just...... mean, but all he knew was that wriggling did NOT help. It just made the situation even worse because now, he had nails in him.

NAILS.

This was the worst day ever.

He hardly had time to register if his spell had worked or not or that someone else was talking to, uh, not him but the Red Cap on him. There was too much noise and too many spells and he didn't really have time to know WHAT was going on. It was all..... too much. All he knew was that that HURT and he didn't like it and he might - MIGHT - start crying any second now.

Something he DID notice was when he heard the sound of a voice saying his name and that was what made him lift his head a tiny bit off the ground. "St-Stella? Is........ is it gone? Am I....... free?" He felt for his back to try and see if the creature was there or not.

And that was when he heard the sound of another voice. One he knew but didn't really know very well so he...... turned his head a little to try and- ..... Oh! The Hufflepuff Prefect. Who...... was seeing him laying on the floor and being a, uh....... a coward? Yeah, that was the right word. He was a right coward.

Another feeling started to settle in: one where he felt..... terrible. Useless. Yeah, that was it. Maybe it was because of this that he lifted his head a little bit more and squeaked, "Do..... you need help? I can help." He might be a first year but he still had his wand on him. He even held it up in the air for the Prefect to see.

This was hell – really. With her eyes W I D E in both fear and excitement the young blonde just TRIED to plug to plug along when she felt it. Hands. Hands shoving her out of the way – wait…why was she being – oh….the red cap was coming back again wasn’t it? She’d forgotten about that one when it leapt off of her.

Her spell had scared it off.

Few – wait…who shoved her? Glancing forward and tilting her head up she couldn’t not recognize him. ”Thanks Salty,” wait…there was a spell being cast! What was he trying to do? Curiously the small blonde plugged forward and peaked her head around the older gryffindor’s side ”what was that spell?” because there was no time when curiosity wasn’t important….ooooooooooooooh Prefect Carden was also with them?

”he’s a good shield eh?” she grinned and looked at them both before scanning for the redcap once more. Her wand at the ready. Could they just disarm it of its branch? ”Headmaster Scrimgeur is…behind a shield?” she remarked as she looked at the man – was there a spell to break his shield because maybe Professors weren’t supposed to leave students to fend for themselves with hungry, dark, creatures.

Default Juni, Chloe and that pair of red caps!
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Well this was....er....interesting.

Jessa watched with a certain level of misplaced interest while the red caps appeared and attacked her classmates. Turning once, she saw Scrimgeour by a tree and it prompted several questions. Was he so relaxed because these things weren’t real? The man already basically said they were magically inept. Would he put them in the line of real fire if he thought them incapable? If he did, and these were real, would he be upset at the outcome of any of them?

All questions she was not bold enough to ask.

The Head Girl surveyed the scene once more just seconds before a tied up red cap landed at her feet. This had to be the most bizarre case of life throwing her lemons. Jessa looked up in the direction it had come from, spotting Chloe and Juni currently dealing with another. Well, no time like the present, yeah?

Jessa turned her wand to the tied red cap and nonverbally cast a stunning spell to ensure it wouldn’t try escaping. It was levitated over to the pair of Ravenclaws. “You think he’d mind if we kept this one?” Because....this was useful and Professor Hirsch wasn’t always opposed to her keeping whatever they fought that day.

Which brought her back to how real these things were.

Spitting on the floor in disgust, he turned away, unsure if he could stomach the sigh any longer.

Watching carefully now, his eyes fixed on the old Red Cap that he’d slowed, he couldn’t help but feel annoyed. Stupid headmaster. Stupid Rules. Stupi…. He froze. Out of the shadows, springing towards him dodging spell after spell were more Red Caps and this time, they were younger and in their prime by the looks of their speed. Was this a good situation? Nope. Did he have the faintest idea of what spell to do? Nope.

“Flipendo!”

“Arresto Momentum!”

“Flipendo!”

“Flipendo!”

He may be a second year, but he wasn’t going down without a fight! And also, the headmaster wouldn’t let anyone die. Would he?

Surely not.

Maybe.

Most likely.

If he ever got out of this, reading the standard book of spells, grade 3 was a must because, quite frankly, he just didn’t know enough. And that was no one’s fault. *Cough* Scrimgeour *Cough*
The old Red Cap was still moving slowly. It was struggling with all its might to break the effects of the spell. Its efforts did not go to waste. Soon his arm was able to move normally, so he took the opportunity to swing his arm about frantically. Then his legs returned to normal. He was running at full speed (full speed for a grandpa Red Cap, at least) once more.

The other Red Caps that had joined the scene went in all directions. One hit the stunning spell square in the face and was knocked out cold. One hit an invisible shield. One was hit with the Knockback Jinx and Arresto Momentum, so it was slowying soaring in the air, low growls emitting from its mouth. Two other Red Caps split up in order to dodge the other spells.

Amidst the commotion, the old Red Cap had managed to get significantly close, close enough to swing at a pair of legs and make contact.

The first spell did hit the teeth-bearing Red Cap. However, it didn't turn the creature completely into a worm. In fact, only one of its arms had been transfigured, improperly so as the arm was rather large and slimy now. Regardless, that was one less arm the Red Cap had now.

Then the stunner came his way, which hit the end of the Red Cap's bone. The bone broke in two, the top half falling to the ground. The beast let out a loud yell. No one broke his bones and lived to tell the tale.

Sharp end of the bone raised, it lunged forward.

She stared at it for a moment, frozen on the ground, until she caught sight of the other one running towards them. At least the younger girl had gotten rid of the branch it was holding so it couldn't bludgeon them to death. But she didn't doubt its hand-to-hand combat, so Natalie pointed her wand at the creature as it lept forward and shouted "Immobulus!" again, hoping that it would freeze and fall just like the other one had. She could already hear her classmates screaming... and she did not want to find out why.
With her companion frozen, the other teenage Red Cap had to fend for herself. Though she had no weapon now, she was going to rely on her sharp nails. They were just as effective as the branch she held just moments ago.

Her target was the younger of the two girls. The Red Cap swiped, close enough to make contact. Her nails dug deep. But then, suddenly, as she was going to take another swipe, the older girl's spell made contact.

The Red Cap didn't fall. She didn't quite freeze either. But the creature's speed was drastically slower than before.

Kaitlynn ran right into the middle of a full blown family assault in the making.

Hanna was there with a mother Red Cap trapped up on her leg and she turned just in time to see three tiny Red Caps coming at the pair of them now. She panicked and pointed her wand at the three, "Confundo". Of all the spells she heard being tossed around that was the first to come out her mouth. Well...maybe she'd get lucky and they'd get confused and stop for a second.

Still she didn't want to take any chances. "Immobulus." She hadn't picked a specific one to target so the spell was meant to go at all three. She hoped that would stop them long enough to figure out how to get the mother detached from Hanna's leg.

"You better not have rabies you bloody monster," Hanna growled at it, poking her wand at it in feeble hopes to move it off. "Get of GET OFF GEROOOFFFFGETOFF!" She swung her leg towards a tree in hopes of squishing it between her leg and the tree.

It was only a second between hearing some high pitched cries, and whipping around she saw Kaitlynn approach, sending spells towards them. There was no use trying to bash their mother up, when they were likely to be able to get their smaller fingers in her skin even deeper. Maybe... even her eyes.

Gulp.

Hanna joined Kaitlynn with the same spell that had managed to freeze their mother. "Petrificus Totalus," she cast towards one of them. "Immobulus," she said, after Kaitlynn, pointing at another one. Shoot them off and hope to get at least one of them with a spell. "Stupefy! STUPEFY!"
The mother Red Cap was still quite frozen, her grip not getting and looser. Even bashing her against the tree in an effort to get her off didn't work. There really was only one way to get her off... undo the spell.

The baby Red Caps, however, were moving all over the place. Full of youthful adrenaline, they were able to dip, dive, and dodge with great speed.

The Confundus Charm hit one of them, but the Red Cap was only confused at what had happened for a brief moment, since the spell was more on the advanced side of the Hogwarts curriculum, and continued running again.

One of the babies was hit with the Full-Body Bind Curse.

The remaining two dodged the other spells. They started swiping at the legs of the two human girls as they hoped around then unpredictably.

It was almost as if he had disappeared. Too bad that actually hadn’t happened. There were students and red caps scattered everywhere.

She was most impressed with the fact that she had roped up one of the twins. ”I think that’s the idea. If we can get through these red caps.”Then she watched as Chloe’s spell get dodged by the one that wasn’t tied up and hit the one that was. ”Nice job yourself.”

Now they just had one of the twins to deal with. This was more like it. Pointing her wand at the red cap, who would probably ready to rip her and Chloe’s head off.”Depulso!” Since it worked for Chloe the first time. The girls had probably just tickled off the red cap even more now.

"Nice one!" Chloe grinned at Juni, even as she raised her wand and pointed it toward the untied red cap. Something else. Something... else. What was there? Something in case that blasting charm missed again.

"Accio tree branch," Chloe pointed her wand at clutter on the ground, trying to create a tripping hazard for the red cap. Many tripping hazards. Anything to slow her down and give themselves time to fight. "Accio branch. Accio rock."

The Red Cap that wasn't died and blasted a few feet away was still on the move. Another spell was casted its way, which did send her backward a few feet near her sister. The creature thought about taking the spare moment to free her sister, but a stunning spell hit the tied Red Cap and soon that same Red Cap was being levitated in the air.

Angry, the free Red Cap ran toward the female humans. The Summoning Charms that were casted didn't stop her. In fact, she ran with the tree branches and rocks. She didn't go for the humans that had blasted her back or the one that had summoned the forest objects; her target was the one that was wanting to take her sister.

The Red Cap pounced and started aggressively slashed at the legs of the older girl.

"Protego totalum."

..............

The new Red Cap that joined the scene leapt aside, digging its nails into a nearby tree, to evade the stunning spell that had been casted. Apparently its nails had dug in too far. It struggled to pull itself from the tree, buying the humans enough time to free the human of his decor.

As for the paralyzed Red Cap that was latched onto the body of the human boy, it soon was removed. It lay on the ground, harder than a stone. That was one less problem that they needed to worry about now.

The Red Caps in the tree, though, dodged the disarming spell. They then dropped from the tree, falling not on the ground but on the shield that had been created. They wasted to not to start bashing it with their bones.

But then he remembered that HE was the reason they were in this trouble and a flash of anger waved through him. Had Professor Hirsch taught this lesson, he would have used dummies disguised as Red Caps , he was sure of that! Not throw them in a real battle!

All these feelings happened in a matter of seconds and Dorian stooped down to pick up a a small twig the size of his hand from the ground and threw it...in the direction of the Headmaster out of frustration. He was scared, angry and could not think straight. Not a good combination.

"What do i do?whatdoidowhatdoido?" if he ran away further, he'd lose the rest of the group and be an easy target for any other creature in the Forest. But even as he saw the Red Cap running towards them, his brain could not function. It could not bring up a single spell even as he held up his wand. The grip on the acacia wand was so tight that he was sure that he was going to snap it in half if he did not loosen up. "ACCIO!" he yelled all of the sudden as the incantation of a spell came to mind but then his eyes widened in horror. "NO STOP NOT THAT SPELL STOP STOP!" he shook his wand in an attempt to stop the charm. "STUPEFY!" he yelled afterwards

Right. Speaking of. Um. "Avis!" she cast, multiple times as birds chirped around her head, creating them high above the wall she's already put in place. His breathing intensified as he looked at the students fighting the dangerous creatures around them and then looked back at the Slytherin with his eyes widening. "DYING?!" he repeated and only vaguely noticed that Sylvie was trying to get their attention until her words registered in his mind. "PROBABLY?!" he shrieked, not the word he had wanted to hear.

Without wasting another second, Dorian ran to the Gryffindor, hoping that none of the Red Caps would attack.
While one of the humans was yelling at the other, the Red Caps kept on moving forward - except for the one that was still dealing with being stuck to the floor of the forest.

One of the Red Caps was now being pulled up into the air toward one of the humans. The spell hadn't hit the Red Cap specifically, but the bone it had was being unintentionally summoned. The creature was NOT going to let his precious go. It started kicking, and swung its body to the side just in time to avoid the stunning spell that had been casted. Swinging back, it aimed, hoping to kick the male human's head.

The Red Cap that was banging on the invisible barrier was so close to getting through. Then the murder of birds happened, which started chasing and picking after as it ran off.

There were still two Red Caps that were still on the move, both of them heading right for the small human girl who was yelling about some hex that had been casted. Their bones were swinging left and right. They were getting closer, closer, closer. They wanted blood.

As the Headmaster began to explain that they would need to be away from the castle, Jackson couldn’t help but perk a little bit. Oh? Was it that dangerous? Of course, after events in past years he couldn’t color himself shocked per se… Sheesh though, the Headmaster definitely had a way of making you not want to be the class clown. Animals that lived in the forest? Jackson’s first thought were the centaurs and unicorns, but those would not be considered dark creatures. Jackson tried to think of something that hadn’t been mentioned, but he was drawing a bigger blank as more creatures were already mentioned. That didn’t go very well for them in general, but he did feel better that it wasn’t just him.

Note scribbling time. Gah, he would have to redo these later because Merlin knew his handwriting was terrible at the best of times. Filing into line, he listened intently as the professor continued and almost laughed out loud when he noted that ‘competent’ wizards would be fine. Ooh okay, defensive spells he was a bit better at probably. There was Protego, Diffindo, Immobulus…He felt that he could actually hold his own for a little in a fight, at least defensively. Oh man, it was time to enter into the unknown… Jackson had his wand out and ready, and had become a bit shift eyed now that they were looking for the red caps. After a little way, Jackson heard commotion before him and he began casting Protego around the general area to try and help keep them all safe.
Amidst all the chaos, a sole Red Cap was not running. In fact, she was walking around, minding her own business. The old grandma Red Cap did not have the effort to attack the humans like the others of her kind did. All she wanted to do was to get to the bush that she had made her home on the other side of the battlefield. The only thing that was preventing her from getting to her destination was the invisible barrier that one of the humans had made.

How rude! If he didn't remove that thing soon, she was going to have no choice but to muster up enough energy to give him a whooping.

SPOILER!!: Grandpa Red Cap

After failing at getting him under control, Skyler quickly got back to defending herself. Too late! She yelled as the old redcap swung at her legs. In defence, she kicked him hoping that he'd fly far far away. Or at least hit a tree.

OOC: For clarification purposes, it would be greatly appreciated if you would quote the section of Red Caps you are playing with so it is easier for me and everyone else to tell who is snagging what. I tried my best to figure out who was playing with what and grouped you together based on the description of the Red Cap(s) provided in your post or if you quoted them directly. I apologise in advance if I didn't get it right.

If you are not interested in the current Red Caps that are out and about, no worries! I can always have more show up.

Also, please do NOT play for the Red Caps. Allow them to respond to your character's spells, meaning I should be the one that determines the outcome of them (if they hit, if they miss, how long the spell effects last, etc.). Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! <3
Daisy observed the Red Cap using his "bony" club to try and break through the shield she had cast, her wand ready to cast a stronger spell if the creature was successful in breaking through. Daisy was determined to not let the dark creature beat her and she hoped she could cast the required spells.

Scrimgeour was unfazed by the pair of Red Caps that were now beating on his barrier. In fact, a bit of a smirk had appeared on his face. He allowed them to keep on beating, beating, beating. They wouldn't be penetrating that shield of his any time soon.

His attention shifted from the creatures near him to the students. Some were fairing surprisingly well, whereas others were just being ... pitiful. Some had Red Caps latched onto them, others were not taking the Red Caps' speed into account when casting spells, and there were even a few that looked like they were panicking.

But the thing that really made him want to roll his eyes was the group that were yelling at each other. That certainly wasn't going to help their current situation. At that rate, the Red Caps would be having their way with them...

Not that he would let them get any more than a few scratches and bruises. The headmaster wasn't a monster, believe it or not.

Even so, he wasn't quite ready to give the students their next set of instructions. His attention went back to the two Red Caps that were still trying to break his shield, allowing the chaos to continue for a few moments more.

OOC: The main activity continues! We will be moving on to the mini-activity tomorrow.

Bettie seeing some Red Caps coming towards her with their bones swinging left and right and not hearing any reply of the student who did the stick-fast hex so they could team up was going to have to do it her self. With that thought Bettie pointed her wand at the Red Caps and took a deep breath. "Expelliarmus!" Again out of her wand came a bright deep Scarlet light and she quickly said “Colloshoo!”

Unsure about where the grandpa redcap had went, Skyler decided to help out with the others. Her legs were hurting but that waa quickly forgotten as she kept her eyes moving making sure to not get hit again. Thar was stupid, letting her guard down like that. She quickly turned and noticed a red cap slashing at one of the ither's legs.
"Flipindo!" She called out and waved her wand to knock back the red cap.

Hanna had enough awareness of the present time to register that the only spell she could cast that seemed to have any impact was Petrificus Totalus. But it hadn't seemed to work so well on the one that was CLAMPED around her leg, and showing no signs of letting go. Hanna's mind, trying to work as fast as possible, didn't think of undoing the spell. "Rictusempra," she cast, moving her wand in the leaf-like shape. Perhaps she could undo the Body Bind with another spell. But just in case... "Titillando," she cast, performing the 'P' shaped movement. Maybe some kind of tickling or laughing would help, if it actually broke the spell.

Almost crying from panic, as the two other Red Cap Babies began swiping at their legs. They were moving too quickly for her to get a good line of sight on them. "Colloshoo," she cast towards one of them. Perhaps if it was stuck in one spot, they could use the brief pause to actually THINK of a spell that would work. "Petrificus Totalus," she cast again.

One down...two to go.

Kaitlynn had had enough at this point and she couldn't keep track of them because they were moving so fast. Hanna was still trying to remove the mother from her attached leg. She decided to just aim everything around their legs because that seemed to be the target of the Red Caps. "Arresto Momentum," she said putting as much willpower as possible behind it hoping she hit one. She pointed her wand again at an area a little ahead of where one seemed to be running at her to attack, "Impedimenta!" She just wanted to get them to slow down or stop completely. "Immobulus!" Her legs stung where they had been scratched and she was fairly certain she would need some of that bruise paste she had stashed. "Colloshoo!"

Something between her and Hanna had to hit.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Life was offering her many lemons today.

Jessa’s gaze shot down to her legs at the feeling of sharp claws trying to slash through them. Composed as she could be, Jessa took aim. With the red cap distracted with attacking, it was far less likely to put up resistance or be able to defend itself in time and two red caps were decidedly better than one. It was fate, this thing running up to her like this and if she could ignore the horrid throbbing in her legs, the reward would be worth it.

Non-verbally—so as not to give away her next move—Jessa cast another stupefy in the hopes of rendering this one unconscious too. It would certainly make this all easier.

Directly following that, she conjured a net to fall over the creature, wanting to reduce all chances of escape.

In all this, despite the pain, the Head Girl did her best not to pull away or run. Why? Because if she dislodged this thing from her leg then her chances of a successful capture significantly decreased and she just couldn’t have that.

At this rate the tied up red cap wasn’t going to be problem at all. Or least not yet. Being tied up and knocked back. The red cap seemed to being taking a one two punch by the two Ravenclaws. And the second one was now in their aim. ”Brilliant, Chloe.” Trying to trip up the rep cap. That was a great idea. Feeling inspired by her friend’s idea to place things around in hopes that the red cap would trip it up. Even Though it wasn’t working the way that they had hoped. Quickly she casted a nonverbal tripping jinx to the red cap as an extra precaution to the tripping cause.

It wasn’t until the sixth year decided to check to see it the tied up one to see what was going on with her. But the head girl must of stunned it and now levitating it. ”I hardly doubt that he would let you do that.” Probably just take more points and give her another detention.

Jessa was pummeling the red cap with spells and probably didn't need her help. Definitely didn't need her help. Chloe seated herself on the unconscious red cap and began conjuring bandages to wrap Jessa's wounds. "Inurio Bani. Go get 'em, HG."

The old Red Cap swung, one of his nails succeeding at making contact with the girl's leg, but all at the cost of getting kicked in the face. The creature didn't go flying as great force would be needed for that. However, it did momentarily stop him, forcing him to shake himself out of the surging pain that he felt and the headache that was erupting. After recollecting himself, he was back at it. This time he went after the boy.

The one Red Cap was still floating about in the air, though it was slowly returning back to the ground as the spell's effects began to wear off. As for the other two Red Caps, they had regrouped and were now going after that pesky human girl.

The hungry Red Cap continued to beat the shield. Bam, bam, bam! It was amazing that his bone hadn't broken in too with the great force that it was using. Slowly but surely, the beast was making progress. It started with a crack in the shield, then the crack grew into a tiny hole, and now that tiny hole was big enough for his face to show through it.

Hello, human. His bone jabbed through the shield, hoping to smack the girl in the face.

Casting The Tickling Charm had no effect on the paralyzed Red Cap that was still clinging onto the girl. The same could be said for the Tickling Hex. It did move ever so slightly, but definitely not enough for the human to be free of it. There was only one spell that would do the trick, a more general counter-spell.

As the other spells went flying, two Stickfast Hexes managed to hit the same baby Red Cap. It let out high-pitched squeals as it tried with all its might to continue moving forward, but the beast's feet were stuck to the floor of the forest.

The Full-Body Bind whizzed by the other's head, as did Arresto Momentum. But the Impedimenta Jinxed hit, stopping the Red Cap for a fleeting ten seconds. It was enough for the Freezing Charm to hit it square in the chest, immobilizing it.

It wasn’t until the sixth year decided to check to see it the tied up one to see what was going on with her. But the head girl must of stunned it and now levitating it. ”I hardly doubt that he would let you do that.” Probably just take more points and give her another detention.

The tied and unconscious Red Cap rested at the feet of the girl that had summoned it. As for the sister Red Cap, she managed to get a good swipe in before being knocked out cold. The net soon was casted over her.

Both Red Caps had been defeated, and they most certainly would not be leaving the forest.

The first spell that was casted caused the Red Cap to release his large bone. It went flying backwards several feet, likely to hit someone if they weren't paying attention. Even though it had been disarmed, the creature continued running, getting a good swipe at the girl's leg. And then another. And another.

On the plus side, the other Red Cap had been stopped. Its feet were stuck to the ground. The sounds it was making indicated that it was not happy.

The two Red Caps, though determined as ever to bludgeon the old man's head it, were gradually started to get tired. They had underestimated the strength of the old man's shield. Looks were exchanged between the two of them once more. Was it even worth it? The bearded human had to give up and move at some point, yes?

They continued bashing. Bang, bang, bang!

"Flipindo!" She called out and waved her wand to knock back the red cap.
One of the Red Caps that had been slashing away wasn't anticipating on being snuck up on. Because of this, the Knockback Jinx hit without fail. The Dark creature flew backward, doing backflips in the air until it made contact with an overhanging tree branch and feel to the floor.

It was definitely going to be feeling that in the morning...

The old man was finally getting bored. He was getting bored with the two Red Caps that just wouldn't give up trying to get past his shield. He was also getting bored watching the students. Groups of them were finally getting somewhere with their Red Caps, whereas the others were ... failing miserably. It was time to bring an end to all of this before someone did something really stupid or one of the Dark creatures managed to bash someone's head in.

With a swift movement of his wand and mere concentration, the man nonverbally sent a set of ropes at the Red Caps that had been smacking his shield with their bones. He then casted a pair of stunning spells at them so that they wouldn't be able to free themselves.

Suddenly a large, deep hole appeared feet before him. It was another of the spells he casted. Quite pleased with the size of the hole, he then cast two Knockback Jinxes on the two Red Caps. Down the hole they would be going, until he decided to release them after the lesson was all said and done.

"Let's bring an end to all of this," the man's low voice finally sounded, ready to see some proper defence happen. "Your goal now is to get these Red Caps in the hole I made over here, using whatever means necessary. Full-Body Binds, the use of Incarcerous and Stunning Spells, and whatever else you can think of that'll stop them dead in their tracks is recommended. You have five minutes to get them all in there. Go."

OOC: We have made it to the mini-activity and final portion of the lesson! As Scrimgeour said, their goal is to successfully stop all of the Red Caps and put them in the hole (feel free to do this without waiting for the RED CAPS! account). There are a variety of ways that this can be done, so have fun with it. The lesson will come to an end within the next 24-48 hours.

His attention still very much on the red caps for now, the sixth year readied his wand in case his shield did not hold. Which, thankfully, it did and he gave a bit of a satisfied grunt as they went bouncing off the magical barrier and to the ground. Naturally, as was to be expected, they began bashing against it with their bones...but Derf felt a foreign sense of confidence as he watched this occur. Confidence and accomplishment. In light of how his boulder dogs had done absolutely nothing against the rotting bodies of inferi last term...it was nice to see that he could protect people, you know?

Knowing his shield would hold, he turned his attention back tot he pair of Gryffindor first years. Er, well, back to them and then the red cap laying on the ground that was still very much a liability once the spell wore off. Thankfully, or more coincidentally really, the Headmaster seemed to think so too. "Depulso!" he commanded, his wand thrust at the immobile creature to fling it into the hole.

"Just...try to hold still for now while I see about bandaging that up, yeah?" he tried to reassure Lucas. How had that gone again? Wheat? Rye? Rice? OH YES RICE! Er...considering there were puncture wounds and all that...maybe not the right grain for this. "Stella, you focus on getting those two into that hole. Shouldn't be too hard to hit them since they are distracted by trying to break the shield."

Giving Lucas a bit of a nod, he would have told him to do the same but...you know...might get a bit complicated while bandaging and stuff was going on. His wand out, Derf conjured a bit of water to clean the immediate area of the wound - at least the blood - and with another flourish cast Ferula to wrap it, snugly, to hopefully stop and prevent any further bleeding.

"Reckon you can give banishing them into the hole a go too?" he asked with a small wink, his confidence on the rise.

Even if red caps were nothing compared to inferi.

Daisy narrowly missed having her nose broken thanks to the fact that the hungry Red Cap had managed to penetrate through her Shield Charm. She heard Headmaster Scrimgeour's instructions and so she aimed her wand at the Red Cap and shouted, "Stupefy!" Daisy usually found that sometimes the simpler spells were the more effective ones and she hoped that this was the case this time. She then moved her wand in a sweeping motion as she said, "Depulso," so that the Red Cap was now in the hole that the Headmaster had fashioned.

Yeah, probably shouldn't have said probably. But both of the younger kids were making their way to her and she felt a surge of something that felt suspiciously like pride. It was only reinforced when - CUE LAUGH - her birds attacked the red caps and chased them away.

SUCCESS.

Sylvie was actually starting to have fun with this and was already coming up with yet more ways to torture fend off the creatures when Scrimmy happened and UGH. He always had to ruin her fun. Yeah the whole seemed cool (not a compliment) and yeah the exercise was nice (STILL not a compliment) but whatever, no smiles for you Scrimmy. As for the Slytherin and- ... okay, just Ravenclaw (Dorian), however... "Hey, you okay? Definitely no dying, sorry about that. You're gonna be fine, they can't get through my wall here," Sylvie nodded at the barrier between her and the red caps, and reinforced it once again with a nice Fianti to make it last longer. Super duper super trooper.

Now for this hole business. "Petrificus Totalus!" Sylvie aimed and hit a red cap squarely in the chest. Basics really. Basics. As long as it didn't involve heating charms or temperature control of any kind, Sylvie was ace at it. That's how good Hirsch had been. RIP, may he rest in his non Hogwarts life. Beaming, mostly at the Ravenclaw kid since he was the only one in her immediate vicinity, the sixth year decided to change it up. Instead of magically flinging it into hole, she'd use WIND to do it! Super cool. "Ventus Duo!" she cast with more concentration this time, and flicked her wand to chuck the immobilised red cap into the hole.

DING! One down! ... Lots to go? "Your turn! It's fun, I promise!" Sylvie turned to the Ravenclaw with a grin. It's like a weird form of reverse basketball, only the basket is a hole and the ball is red caps! FUN!

The Red Cap didn't fall. She didn't quite freeze either. But the creature's speed was drastically slower than before.
Natalie was thankful for two things: 1) that her magic skillz were working and 2) that that darn red cap was currently frozen. Unfortunately, she didn't hit the other red cap in time and it was already attacking the younger girl when it got to it. That was going to be a nasty trip to the hospital wing, wasn't it?

Since the red cap was moving slower now, Natalie pointed her wand at it again. It? She couldn't tell what.. gender it was. "Petrificus Totalus!"

There.

Luckily, that was when the Headmaster decided that they had had enough. She turned, glaring at him as he gave them the next set of instructions. Put the red caps... into a hole. Natalie almost protested because it was HIS fault that they attacked, because he had led them right into their home and they got protective and started attacking. And now he wanted them to put them in a hole and tick them off even more. Cool. SO cool.

She didn't protest, though. Because she was smart.

Natalie sighed right as Derf suggested the banishing charm. That would be good... if she could manage it. Her aim wasn't really the best, but it seemed to be a good idea to try.

Taking a deep breath, Natalie pointed her wand at the red cap that she had first immobilized. Since it was already still, she would just have to banish it. "Depulso!" she commanded with as much dedication as she could muster. But in truth, she did feel bad.

With Bettie's adrenaline being high right now the swipes from the Red Cap did not really faze her for now. She was glad the headmaster is putting an end to this now.

Bettie stepped back and around so the pit was behind the Red Cap and she took aim and let her rip with "Petrificus Totalus" and then "Flipendo."

So much exhaustion was coming over Hanna as she worked through the adrenaline. Trying to think as quickly as she could, and cast spells as quickly as she could, and deal with the PAIN in her leg from the blasted red cap!

Nothing was working, and the only thing she could think of next was to release it from the spell. However, just as she was working up the nerve to do so, Professor Scrimgeour spoke. So they were to get them INTO that hole? Blimey. Okay.

"F-FINITE," she cast. Nothing. "Finite!" She repeated clearer, waving her wand in the shielf-like shape. The spell broke, and she immediately cast "DEPULSO," towards it with a sweep of her wand. Panting slightly, it was time to get the other brats in there. The one that was stuck on the ground probably needed freeing too. "Finite!" She cast at it, and immediately after, repeated "Depulso," to banish it to the depths of the hole.
