The transition from October to November has definitely been extreme. Just that morning a glistening layer of frost had was seen on the ground and remained while you completed your S.O.R.E. before breakfast, and it has been forecasted that mountains of snow might be making an appearance in the near future. Brace yourselves. Winter is coming, and it looks like it is going to be a very long and cold one this year.
As you make your way out to the Clock Tower Entrance for an oddly scheduled Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson after a long day of classes and post-supper, the chill in the air is almost unbearable and your breath can be seen still in visible puffs as the remainder of the sunset lingers in the horizon. Matching the weather perfectly — almost too perfectly — stands Headmaster Scrimgeour at the threshold of the entrance, his back to the courtyard and wooden bridge beyond. His arms are crossed and his face looks sterner than ever as little flecks of white being trickling down from the sky.
Being that you are not in the classroom setting, there are no desks for your to sit at. There is not even the slightest indication about what the topic of today's lesson will be about. With those icy blue eyes watching you like a hawk, you had better stand firmly in position and wait for further instruction.
OOC: Welcome to the first role-played Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson of the term. Please note that your student character would be familiar with Scrimgeour's no-nonsense style of teaching, his more practical methods, and his classroom rules by now as they have been having lessons with him for a couple months now. Though the lesson has stated, feel free to jump in at any time!
seeing as Max was at the back of the queue! who else was? come play! :D

He'd snuck in at the back of the queue thinking the further away from Scrimgeour the better. He was regretting that decision now though. For SURE. He gripped his wand tighter and shot several more glances over his shoulder expecting to be greeted by just more darkness.
......... not this time though.
He yelled a few choice swear words (hopefully the shouting of his classmates meant that Scrimgeour didn't hear, ahem) and pointed his wand at the creature.
"Stupefy!" Max aimed a stunner at the Red Cap, no doubt his aim was slightly off though because this was all kinds of terrifying and he had no chill. Who was next to him and could he hide behind them, please!?

Bettie standing next to Max saw four more Red Caps coming and know one spell she is really good at. So pointed her wand and took a deep breath. "Expelliarmus!" Out of her wand came a bright deep Scarlet light and hit it died on and not only did she disarmed the Red Cap she blasted it backwards into two of the other Red Caps and it weapon of choose hit the other in the head.

It seems she'd walked towards a mother Red Cap and its baby. Of course the mummy would be on fierce protective mode. The first warning she had that she'd disturbed them was when she felt hands grab her leg, fingers DIGGING into her skin. "OWwwwwwwwwwww," she screeched, falling onto her back.
Fumbling in her robes for her wand, because she stupidly didn't have it ready. She used it to poke at the Red Cap, enough to loosen its grip on her leg. "Stupid Hanna," she told herself. "PETRIFICUS TOTALUS!" She bellowed, swishing her wand in the horizontal-swish motion.
The mother Red Cap froze. However, it froze with its hands clamped around Hanna's leg. She kicked and KICKED to try and flick it off, but it was firmly in place. Trying to stay calm and not FREAK out, she pointed her wand at it and said "Waddiwasi," and, with a rip to her pants, the red cap was yanked from her leg, and PINGED into the air like a kite.

Rather than stealthily climb down the tree, however, it jumped, falling right on top of one of the humans.
The further they walked into the forest, the worse Lucas was starting to feel. He went from feeling sweaty to wanting to throw up and he had a funny feeling that the Headmaster probably wouldn't approve of that. Might even make him do more pushups that won't give him any muscles and would make him feel worse.
But something else that made him feel worse was the noise. All of a sudden, there was a lot of noise around him. Lucas flailed where he lay on the ground, trying to get this..... this THING off of him. It was too late to wish he'd looked up instead of keeping his eyes out for his eye-level surroundings. Why weren't they told that they could swing down from the TREES?! Why wasn't this part of their learning?
Be vigilant? Yeah, it was too late for THAT.
"Get oooooooof! Getoffgetoffgetoff!" Every thought about what they had learnt failed him as he tried to..... uh, reach back and push it away but his arms were very short. But he was trying! Slapping the air counted for SOMETHING, right?
No. No no, this isn't something EMMA would do. Emma would probably have something clever up her sleeve and do something great and magical and- ....... oh! He switched his wand to the other hand - which was already a mistake but he had a RED CAP on him so this was...... necessary - and awkwardly pointed it in the direction of the Red Cap. "PETRIFICUS TOTALUS!"
Two young Red Caps, likely twin sisters, had been searching for faeries, more out of play than anything. But soon different playmates came into view. The pair didn't move from their position. They just stood there, eerily watching, their beady red eyes fixated on the humans.
If they could speak the human tongue, they would definitely be saying 'come play with us' in unison.
Soon Juniper was heading into the forbidden forest with the rest of the students. Wand was in her hand as she entered. Spells were moving through her head, so many that sounded like to her would great against… red caps or anything that might be in there ready to attack them. But another voice echoed in her head the head master, booming in her head saying that wasn’t good enough.
Awesome NOW she had these thoughts going through her head.
The sixth year tried to keep her wits about her, senses tingling. Wide eyes looking around, head turning toward any noises. It seemed like they had only just entered the forest, but they seemed to be pretty deep inside the forest. Apparently it was deep enough to have stumble on the red caps. She stumbled on two young red caps, twin.. Maybe. They were staring at her, eerily. What the heck. It was so creepy the way they were staring at her. It was almost like some kind of scary muggle horror movie.
Was she supposed to do something now? All they were doing was staring at her. They wasn’t attacking her….yet. Would she get in trouble for striking first? Or worse yet would she get in trouble for not reacting first? She didn’t even think about it as she raised her arm. Pointing her wand at the twin red caps. ”Incarcerous!” A thick rope shot toward the red caps. If she could at least tie one of them up, both would have been ideal. She could at least battle against one of them. And she would be ready for them either way.

Nope. This was absolutely unfair. How was walking into a PACK of red caps possibly a controlled classroom setting? This was patently dangerous, and the Headmaster was... well. Where was he? Chloe ignored the red caps and her classmates, trusting them to be able to fend for themselves for a MINUTE while she looked for the Headman himself.
It was impossible to ignore Juni, though, who seemed to be in a bit of a two-on-one situation. Chloe hustled from her spot mid-line, although the line itself had unraveled considerably. Her bestie was managing to hold her own for now, but the bookend red caps hadn't really attacked yet. And when they did... "Nice spell," Chloe was breathless as she paused at Juni's side.
"DEPULSO." Time to try out the theory of her blasting charm. "Can we run back to the castle? Isn't a well-timed escape the whole point?"
As soon as the man heard the old Red Cap grunting and saw it swinging a sharp-ended bone. He continued walking forward as the Red Caps began to swarm. A few did come across his path, but he swiftly moved his wand and watched as they were flung backwards.
Scrimgeour took his position in front of large tree. From there he surveyed the scene before him. Of course he could have stepped in to assist at any moment if he wanted to. But the fact was that he DIDN'T want to step in. That was the whole point of this class. To give them a real life situation in which they had to problem solve and defend themselves, whether to save their own necks or to work together.
He was preparing them for the real world. If they didn't appreciate this opportunity now, they certainly would in the future.
With a flourish of his wand, a strong invisible barrier surrounded him. The headmaster was still visible to both the students and the Red Caps, though he did not seem all too concerned about that. After all, he was much older and more experienced. His shield would hold up, for it was strong and would be able to sustain a lot of damage before breaking.
Protective shield up, the man continued watching with leisure. If any Red Caps came his way, he'd let them have fun at attempting to break his barrier. As for the students, well, they appeared to be handling things just fine on their own at the moment.

"Oh, nice job, have us learn by leading us straight into a horde of Red Caps and watch us struggle with them"! Was there any amusement left in Archer's tone? No, just rightful anger. Luckily, the stupid creatures hadn't gone for her yet, allowing her to cast her own "Protego!" shield around her and a "Relashio!" into the crowd. Hopefully, she didn't hit any of her classmates.
Seriously, this guy thought this was effective teaching?!

Thw first cap, noy that tall, surprisingly came swinging. Skyler waved her wand.
"Expeliarmus!" She shouted aiming at the old red cap with the beerd.
Skyler quickly looked around. She saw a couple in the trees, she stepped far away from the momma and her babies. Skyler jumped out of the way from a couple.
"Stupify!" She shouted hoping to stun them.
At this point, it was complete chaos!
((Ooc:hope that's right, the post was kind of confusing.))

Pointing his wand straight at the creature now, giving his wand a wave, he cried “Arresto Momentum!” causing the creature to slow to the point where he had time to compose himself and get back to his feet. Thinking quickly back to some of the spells his fellow classmates suggested now, his heart threatening to jump out of his chest, he gave his wand another flick and shouted “Expelliarmus” disarming the red cap of his unusually sharp bone. Taking a deep breath now, he looked around at the chaos around him, ready to help any of his class mates, a somewhat calmness taking over him.
The old Red Cap, though he was not as once as he once had been, was quick to move out of the path of the human girl's spell, which wound up hitting a tree and caused more Red Caps to join the scene. But soon the bearded Red Cap's began to slow down. It loud out an annoyed growl, especially after his bone was forced from his hand, as he continued moving forward at an extremely slow pace while the spell was still in effect.
The others whizzed past the old Red Cap, one dodging the stunning spell that had been casted. They didn't have bones or any sort of weapons. But they were much younger than the old creature, significantly faster and springier. They were even hoping from left to right to avoid any spells that were bound to come their way.

He readied his wand, casting a protection spell. "Protego," he said as he carefully made sure to evaluate his surroundings. He watched a young Slytherin cast a few offensive spells. Interesting. First attack..... He'd prefer to stay on the offensive just in case one of the creatures decided to try to surprise them, of course.

Riiiiiight so they were marching to the forest. Did anyone else think that this was a bit…military school like?....Cal’s reaction about slashing it made Beth wince. That was intense indeed. She was silent, not answering anything at all. Instead of answering anything she just stayed in formation with her wand ready.
Oh…so Chase was going to protect Anna…hmm, did that redcap just bare its teeth? Marching closer toward Chase, Beth just walked closer to the Gryffnindor Chaser. It was then that she felt it, there was a THUMP and a redcap was on top of her. ”get off of me” she snapped as she began trying to pry the creature from her – ”petrificus totalus” she cast her wand pointing awkwardly at the redcap. Did it hit? She didn’t know – maybe it just stilled her hair or the leaves above her.

The Red Cap that had been sleeping and bore its teeth swung and missed, smacking its branch into an invisible shield. He quickly gave up on the boy and targeted the girl, giving her a good old smack and jumped on top of her, ready to crack the bone right on top of her head. It leapt off of her when the wand was pointed at him, avoiding the Freezing Full-Body Bind Curse just in time.
A stunning spell the whizzed by his capped head, which went flying to who knows where. The beast didn't care. He was ready to swing that femur bone of his again.

He had intentionally led them right through their home. And he was standing in the middle so the students would get the worst of it while he watched.
Tightening her grip on her wand, Natalie caught sight of two slightly smaller Redcaps together, one of which was running right towards her. "Immobulous!" she shrieked, pointing her wand at the little creature who jumped into the air. But then the other one was coming at her with his small tree to try and whack her. Her heart was already pounding with fear adrenaline and she managed to jump out of the way, shooting a disarming spell at him to rid him of his branch. "Expelliarmus!" she shouted at the other one, before it could chase her.
The two teenage Red Caps made it difficult to tell who they are targeting at first. The eager one, the jumper, dodged the stunning spells that the younger of the two girls casted and carried on its way, hoping to kick the other girl to the ground. But the older girl's spell hit, causing the Red Cap to freeze mid-air and drop to the ground. Its red eyes were still blinking.
The other Red Cap still continued running toward them, the branch swinging unpredictably. But soon it was forced from its grip. But did she need the branch? No. She still had her sharp nails, which were perfect for clawing. Without any hesitation, she leapt forward.

One of the humans got way too close for her liking, so she dug her fingers into the girl's skin. The screaming urged her to dig deeper and deeper. But suddenly the mother Red Cap froze, unable to move, her nails still latched deep into the girl's leg.
The Red Cap's grip did not loosen when the second spell was casted. Instead, a clump of the earth was shot in its face.
Hearing the commotion, three tiny Red Caps appeared at the entrance of their home. What was that big meanie doing to their momma? Simultaneously, the all let out high-pitched cries and pounced.

The deer liver had been dropped on the floor of the forest. His mouth was watering at the sight of the human who had decided to approach him. A dribble of saliva was coming from his mouth as he brandished his bone. He waited for the human to make the first move...
And he ducked her first spell. The second though worked as desired, causing dirt and foliage and even some snow gathered to form a solid shield of protection. But did that stop the Red Cap? No, no, no. It started beating on the shield with his bone.

Their heads would be perfect for their collection! Their bones would too!

The tree-jumping Red Cap clung onto the human boy for dear life as he flailed about, screaming at the top of his lungs. The creature was getting some sick enjoyment out of it all, grinning the entire time. Nails dug into the boy's skin, the beast getting more and more excited about the prospect of fresh blood, and... then he was paralyzed, still latched onto the boy quite tightly.
While this was happening, three Red Caps were watching from up in the trees. One of them took this as the perfect opportunity to drop down and say hello.
He did not want to be here. He wanted to be safe inside of the castle not walk to his death in the Forbidden Forest. WHY had he even come to class today?! Had he known this would have happened he'd have refused to show up. But the Headmaster taught the subject....he couldn't say no or else Ravenclaw would risk points loss, or he'd been thrown in detention OR even getting expelled. He could see him do that with ease. Actually, it had come as a surprise to him that some of the students hadn't been kicked out yet.
Wand at the ready, eventhough Dorian knew that it made no difference if he had one or not as a tree branch thrown hard enough could break throw his defensive spells. At the sight of a group of Red Caps. SERIOUSLY WHY A GROUP?! who seemed to be trying to win over an ugly female, Dorian froze for a moment before they started to attack.
With a LOUD and TERRIFIED shriek that could possibly alert the whole forest, Dorian threw the first spell that came to mind "Impedimenta!" to slow them down whíle he.....turned around and ran away. His specialty.

Okay, okay, this was fine, this was like August at the Ministry all over again, she could DO this.
"PROTEGO MUNIO!" well she was already thinking about it and it seemed the most effective cast to protect herself from UGLY RED CAP MEN. But she didn't leave it at just that, Sylvie knew better than to trust herself with just the one protection spell. Thank you Professor Hirsch! She'd never be here without you! ... Literally too, if you hadn't left! (Not the point!)

Seriously, this guy thought this was effective teaching?!
Each of the male Red Caps that were dashing toward the human's were determined as ever to bring back to the female Red Cap as many skulls as they could. They dodged spells left and right, though some weren't so lucky and had lost their chances at winning the female's heart.
One of the Red Caps had been hit by the Impediment Jinx. It slowed down, but only for ten short seconds before he was running at full speed again.
Another ran into a solid wall that one of the female humans had created, then started beating on it with the bone that he held firmly in his hand. The wall didn't get any stronger, however, as the second spell would only allow her to keep the wall 'alive' and be able to cast other spells. He smacked that wall harder and harder with each strike.
The feet of one unsuspecting Red Cap was then stuck to the ground. He tried with all his might to lift his feet up, but was unable to do so. Then, to make matters even more embarrassing for him, his dagger-like bone was forced out of his hand and went flying. The creature let out a loud growl as he continued trying to get out of his sticky situation.
The first-year's spell did cause the bone of one of the Red Caps to go flying and even knock it backwards. It fell in front of two other Red Caps, only presenting a minor obstacle for them. The two leapt over their fallen comrade, who was already rising up from the ground.
One of the three then broke formation, targeting the human girl that had casted a standard invisible shield. Her spell did cause the Red Cap to drop his bone, but he quickly swooped it up from the ground and continued running toward her.

A pair of Red Caps spotted the old man and quickly followed after him, hoping to sneak up on him and bludgeon his old brains out. But they were taken aback when they walked into an invisible barrier. Low growls were exchanged between the two of them and they started beating on the barrier with all their might.
OOC: For clarification purposes, it would be greatly appreciated if you would quote the section of Red Caps you are playing with so it is easier for me and everyone else to tell who is snagging what. I tried my best to figure out who was playing with what and grouped you together based on the description of the Red Cap(s) provided in your post or if you quoted them directly. I apologise in advance if I didn't get it right.
If you are not interested in the current Red Caps that are out and about, no worries! I can always have more show up.
Also, please do NOT play for the Red Caps. Allow them to respond to your character's spells, meaning I should be the one that determines the outcome of them (if they hit, if they miss, how long the spell effects last, etc.). Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! <3
The old red cap group (it was a but confusing but I think I got it now.)

Oh lovely, more red caps, as if there weren't enough already.
"Pretago," Skyler said waving her wand again to put up a shield charm, just in case, as she also kept her eyes peeled making sure she did not go near the momma and her babbies.
Jackson had made a mental note of the different location and time for class. Even so, he found himself arriving only a few minutes early instead of the 10 he had meant to be. Ah well of course, he was almost always pretty early to this particular class. As the Headmaster began to explain that they would need to be away from the castle, Jackson couldn’t help but perk a little bit. Oh? Was it that dangerous? Of course, after events in past years he couldn’t color himself shocked per se… Sheesh though, the Headmaster definitely had a way of making you not want to be the class clown. Animals that lived in the forest? Jackson’s first thought were the centaurs and unicorns, but those would not be considered dark creatures. Jackson tried to think of something that hadn’t been mentioned, but he was drawing a bigger blank as more creatures were already mentioned. That didn’t go very well for them in general, but he did feel better that it wasn’t just him.
Note scribbling time. Gah, he would have to redo these later because Merlin knew his handwriting was terrible at the best of times. Filing into line, he listened intently as the professor continued and almost laughed out loud when he noted that ‘competent’ wizards would be fine. Ooh okay, defensive spells he was a bit better at probably. There was Protego, Diffindo, Immobulus…He felt that he could actually hold his own for a little in a fight, at least defensively. Oh man, it was time to enter into the unknown… Jackson had his wand out and ready, and had become a bit shift eyed now that they were looking for the red caps. After a little way, Jackson heard commotion before him and he began casting Protego around the general area to try and help keep them all safe.
Ok... the Headmaster was completely off his rocker and mad for doing this to them! Not only were they in the forest they were in the forest now fighting red caps! Well... she wasn't but her friends and people around her were. Her wand gripped tightly in her hand she looked around for any that wanted to attack her.
Stella's eyes widened in horror as she seen Lucas fighting one of them off for dear life. " Get off him and leave him alone!" she said bravely not knowing where that came from. "Oh great...more came to say hi!" she said looking at the one who dropped down. Helping Lucas get the paralyzed one off him she pointed her wand at the one that dropped down.
She wasn't afraid of these little ugly Creatures she was a Gryffindor! She was a strong and brave lioness no stupid red caps better mess with her! Her wand pointed at the one who dropped down she smirked at it.
"Stupefy!"
She might be a first year, but she was angry that these red caps attacked her friend! She was sure that would teach it not to mess with them, she could only hope. "A..Are you ok Lucas?" she asked him. " Relashio!" she said pointing it at the red cap that was stuck on Lucas hoping to get it off him.

One of the Red Caps had been hit by the Impediment Jinx. It slowed down, but only for ten short seconds before he was running at full speed again.
Dorian looked behind him as he ran past a few other students who's names he did not even remember at the moment and he halted when he saw that his spell had actually hit one of the Red Caps. He let out a laugh and his blue eyes flashed towards the Headmaster as he saw him throwing the Red Caps aside as if it was nothing and at first, Dorian nearly looked at him in jealous admiration. But then he remembered that HE was the reason they were in this trouble and a flash of anger waved through him. Had Professor Hirsch taught this lesson, he would have used dummies disguised as Red Caps , he was sure of that! Not throw them in a real battle!
All these feelings happened in a matter of seconds and Dorian stooped down to pick up a a small twig the size of his hand from the ground and threw it...in the direction of the Headmaster out of frustration. He was scared, angry and could not think straight. Not a good combination.
"What do i do?whatdoidowhatdoido?" if he ran away further, he'd lose the rest of the group and be an easy target for any other creature in the Forest. But even as he saw the Red Cap running towards them, his brain could not function. It could not bring up a single spell even as he held up his wand. The grip on the acacia wand was so tight that he was sure that he was going to snap it in half if he did not loosen up. "ACCIO!" he yelled all of the sudden as the incantation of a spell came to mind but then his eyes widened in horror. "NO STOP NOT THAT SPELL STOP STOP!" he shook his wand in an attempt to stop the charm. "STUPEFY!" he yelled afterwards

Skyler rolled her eyes and ran after Dorian. As she ran, she kept her eyes darting everywhere trying to stay away from all the redcaps.
She grabbed his shoulders and took him asside.
"Hey!" She shouted trying to get his attention.
"You need to calm down. If you don't, you'll end up dieing. Take a breath okay?" She said.
She was doing the best she could but there was so many of them. Everyone was setting off different spells and it was disorganized chaos. She glared at the Headmaster as he stood there and just watched as they were attacked. Well that's just fan-flippin'-tastic. Kaitlynn ran right into the middle of a full blown family assault in the making.
Hanna was there with a mother Red Cap trapped up on her leg and she turned just in time to see three tiny Red Caps coming at the pair of them now. She panicked and pointed her wand at the three, "Confundo". Of all the spells she heard being tossed around that was the first to come out her mouth. Well...maybe she'd get lucky and they'd get confused and stop for a second.
Still she didn't want to take any chances. "Immobulus." She hadn't picked a specific one to target so the spell was meant to go at all three. She hoped that would stop them long enough to figure out how to get the mother detached from Hanna's leg.

AHA! She'd succeeded.
Taking a deep breath, Ewan tightened his grip as he searched for a friend in need of help. As he searched, his eyes rested on Scrimgeour and his… “UGH”. HE HAD A SHIELD UP! And not so that he could help his students from behind. No. SO HE COULD WATCH THEM STRUGGLE! This was the final straw! Spitting on the floor in disgust, he turned away, unsure if he could stomach the sigh any longer.
Watching carefully now, his eyes fixed on the old Red Cap that he’d slowed, he couldn’t help but feel annoyed. Stupid headmaster. Stupid Rules. Stupi…. He froze. Out of the shadows, springing towards him dodging spell after spell were more Red Caps and this time, they were younger and in their prime by the looks of their speed. Was this a good situation? Nope. Did he have the faintest idea of what spell to do? Nope.
“Flipendo!”
“Arresto Momentum!”
“Flipendo!”
“Flipendo!”
He may be a second year, but he wasn’t going down without a fight! And also, the headmaster wouldn’t let anyone die. Would he?
Surely not.
Maybe.
Most likely.
If he ever got out of this, reading the standard book of spells, grade 3 was a must because, quite frankly, he just didn’t know enough. And that was no one’s fault. *Cough* Scrimgeour *Cough*

Their heads would be perfect for their collection! Their bones would too!
One of the Red Caps was suddenly tied up with ropes. She let out a high squeal, which prompted the other to glare at the pair and lunge forward. The Red Cap that was able to move about freely dodged the Banishing Charm, at the cost of her tied sister soaring backward with a loud howl.
Juniper wasn’t sure if her plan had been the best idea or not. It wasn’t helping that currently she was working two against one at the moment. That was until Chloe showed up next to her. She was most impressed with the fact that she had roped up one of the twins. ”I think that’s the idea. If we can get through these red caps.”Then she watched as Chloe’s spell get dodged by the one that wasn’t tied up and hit the one that was. ”Nice job yourself.”
Now they just had one of the twins to deal with. This was more like it. Pointing her wand at the red cap, who would probably ready to rip her and Chloe’s head off.”Depulso!” Since it worked for Chloe the first time. The girls had probably just tickled off the red cap even more now.

Skyler turned in the direction of who called her, she ran, dodging any red caps that decided to go after her. Why was it she was the only one not glaring at the headmaster? He was setting them up for a real life situation. They should be more grateful. Of course he had a shield up, he was a more advanced wizard then the rest of them.
She glanced back at Dorien wondering what he was going to do. She kept her eyes open careful to avoid any more redcaps.
She did make a mental note to ask the headmaster about the shield later. She honestly wanted to know more.

But SOD IT, she couldn't concentrate on calming down and fighting these Red Caps.
The grip was REALLY hurting. She was certain there were going to be puncture marks in her skin. "You better not have rabies you bloody monster," Hanna growled at it, poking her wand at it in feeble hopes to move it off. "Get of GET OFF GEROOOFFFFGETOFF!" She swung her leg towards a tree in hopes of squishing it between her leg and the tree.
It was only a second between hearing some high pitched cries, and whipping around she saw Kaitlynn approach, sending spells towards them. There was no use trying to bash their mother up, when they were likely to be able to get their smaller fingers in her skin even deeper. Maybe... even her eyes.
Gulp.
Hanna joined Kaitlynn with the same spell that had managed to freeze their mother. "Petrificus Totalus," she cast towards one of them. "Immobulus," she said, after Kaitlynn, pointing at another one. Shoot them off and hope to get at least one of them with a spell. "Stupefy! STUPEFY!"

Granted, it had worked on the creature that was already tied up, so it wasn't like she'd saved the day or anything. Still, nice to know what a red cap looked like flying head over tea kettle like that.
"Nice one!" Chloe grinned at Juni, even as she raised her wand and pointed it toward the untied red cap. Something else. Something... else. What was there? Something in case that blasting charm missed again.
"Accio tree branch," Chloe pointed her wand at clutter on the ground, trying to create a tripping hazard for the red cap. Many tripping hazards. Anything to slow her down and give themselves time to fight. "Accio branch. Accio rock."

If anyone had thought otherwise in that they WOULDN'T be squaring off against a horde of rec caps, well, Derf reckoned that he had finally come across someone more naive than himself. Wand clutched in his hand, Derf took a moment while marching to give himself a bit of an advantage - tricky and clumsy as it was practicing magic with his non-dominant hand. "Prehenso," he muttered to himself, intent quite clear and relief washing over him as he felt his hand tingle and feel a bit like sandpaper when he rubbed his fingers together. Nice to know that under some pressure and nervousness he could still perform a bit of magic, yeah?
Gripping Charm in full effect, and just in time for that matter, Derf's sense went into complete overload when the creatures attacked. Flashbacks to the grindylows of last term in FULL effect, his muscles were acting on pure instinct when his wand flourished about himself. "Loricatus!"
That had been one for his OWL's. He may not be particularly proficient at offensive magic, but when it came to defensive...he was fairly confident.

Thankful that he had aid, Derf decided to fix his attention on the two first years since, well, they WERE first years. From his spot, he could see perfectly the trio of red caps in the tree. Well, duo now that one had jumped from its branches on to the pair of lions. Stella seemed to, mostly, have a handle on things on the ground which meant he was going to turn his attention upwards to the trees. "I'll keep the others away, you keep your focus on Lucas," he nodded to her before flourishing his wand again to protect their group from an further strikes from above or the ground. "Protego totalum."

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Dorian let out a yelp in alarm when he felt hands on his shoulders and he was about to use his fists like Daisy had taught him in the defence practise room to fight off the Red Cap that had gotten him when he noticed that it was Skyler. WHY ON EARTH WOULD SHE DO THAT?!
His breathing intensified as he looked at the students fighting the dangerous creatures around them and then looked back at the Slytherin with his eyes widening. "DYING?!" he repeated and only vaguely noticed that Sylvie was trying to get their attention until her words registered in his mind. "PROBABLY?!" he shrieked, not the word he had wanted to hear.
Without wasting another second, Dorian ran to the Gryffindor, hoping that none of the Red Caps would attack.

The other Red Cap still continued running toward them, the branch swinging unpredictably. But soon it was forced from its grip. But did she need the branch? No. She still had her sharp nails, which were perfect for clawing. Without any hesitation, she leapt forward.
Thankfully, the two younger red caps seemed to targeting another girl too, so Natalie didn't have to try and fight off both of them at once. She was at least grateful for that. She was also grateful that her magic skillz did indeed pull through and immobilized the one that was getting ready to try and take her down to the ground.
She stared at it for a moment, frozen on the ground, until she caught sight of the other one running towards them. At least the younger girl had gotten rid of the branch it was holding so it couldn't bludgeon them to death. But she didn't doubt its hand-to-hand combat, so Natalie pointed her wand at the creature as it lept forward and shouted "Immobulus!" again, hoping that it would freeze and fall just like the other one had. She could already hear her classmates screaming... and she did not want to find out why.
