by: Sundae Dilaurentis Artificial Turf: Rookie of the year?
This season Exmoor Stadium rolled out the red carpet for some green, new artificial turf that is. Last January during the Wizarding Environment Rejuvenation and Protection Summit (W.E.R.P.S) the artificial was a hot topic of conversation at the Summit. Questions of cost, efficiency, and the maintenance were major concerns with the protesters. Most people were wondering why was the artificial turf being pushed and why was it so important to try it out on Quidditch pitches.
When asked about the trial run for the artificial turf had gone, Mr. Lucas Hawthorne, Quidditch Public relations officer for the Department of Games and Sports at the Ministry of Magic, has given us at the Daily Prophet this statement: "I certainly think that the artificial turf trial run went well given the pros and cons of both artifical and the natural turf. I have been approached by several players and regular peopel who are leaning towards artificial turfs. Of course there are some who firmly stated that they will be sticking to the latter. That aside, we will continue with these trials and soon, some pitches will permanently have artificial turfs.”
Now that artificial turf seems to be here to stay the big question is when can we start getting it installed in our yards at home? Local fresh faces
Last summer U17 team had three players that have signed with Professional teams. These three have just graduated and are heading to professional Quidditch; Zinnia Shacklebolt and Henry Whittebrook were signed with Kenmare Kestrels, whereas Daisy Carden, signed with Quiberon Quafflepunchers in France. With the announcement of the ban on quidditch at Hogwarts being lifted it will be nice to see more fresh and familiar faces on your teams in the coming years. Trades, Retirements, Predictions and Rumors
One of the biggest breaking news in trades is the trade of former Wanderers chaser West Odessa to the Magpies the team that his wife, Alice also plays for. It will be interesting to see how well these two will do on the pitch on the same team. Can they prove to be the power couple they are on the pitch now as well as they do off of the pitch?
With the Magpies winning the season, we can’t wait to see how they will do next season. The predictions are saying they will have another winning year, while others say that Kestrels with their young blood has a chance to dominate next season. As with every season, it really could be anyone’s year.
Joe Franks-Mundie played his last season, this past season, retiring due to a shoulder injury. But others say it’s his age that is the biggest reasoning behind his retirement. There are many other aging players, rumors of them retiring after next season, Carter Philiips, chaser for Puddlemere has been with the team since 2076-2077 season many have speculated his retirement in the next few years if not after this season. Another could be Nia Newtington Ballycastle chaser, one of the oldest active players will be out for the first few weeks of play due to a torn muscle in her shoulder. Maybe that’s a sign that it’s time for Nia to hang up the broom.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Why you should travel right after your seventh year December, 2094
by: Louise Hamilton The concept of wanderlust is simple - it is to help you cultivate your best self. It is when you return from a trip, but immediately start planning your next one. We spend seven years in Wizarding School, learning about potions and charms and transfiguration, in attempts to get us to become academically intelligent wizards and witches. Classes five days a week, cramming both useless and useful knowledge into our brains, half of which will forget the moment we take our exams. Once you realize school is out - possibly forever unless you’re attending University, you will see that there are definitive advantages to traveling when you’re seventeen or eighteen.
Number one: no commitments! While you might feel as though you have ties keeping you at home, you really don’t. Chances are good, you’re unmarried and have no kids, which means you should take advantage and see the world while you still can. It’s also a great time to engage in backpacking, while you are young and able to sleep anywhere.
Number two: travel improves your planning and navigation skills, which can only enhance your chances of finding employment when you return. It helps to engage in those from other areas, to enhance your knowledge of other cultures and become a more well-rounded individual.
Number three: Cheap locations to stay, which were made for the young and adventurous. While they might not be ideal in terms of five-star comfort, they offer local travel advice for wherever you happen to be residing. It also helps in terms of meeting new friends and like-minded individuals.
Spending my final year of wizarding school abroad in a sense only increased my urge to explore places. Which was why, after graduating and going home to America for about a month, I headed back to Europe for a backpacking adventure. While I could recommend a list of countries that I visited and enjoyed, instead I will say this: you have to find your own rhythm and just act on impulse. If something is calling for you to do it, don’t hesitate. Go climb a mountain. Go on that ten-mile hike. Sleep under the stars without a tent. Just never stop dreaming, but make sure you act on those dreams and make sure to LIVE in the present.
Travel is a unique way to bridge that gap between school and employment, to help you find your sense of self and to learn how to function on your own.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Ominous Hawks Hit Hogsmeade January, 2095
by: Opal Mainwaring If Headmistress Hawthorne thought the threats facing Hogwarts had diminished with the summer holidays, she was sadly wrong. During a bustling Halloween weekend of trick or treating in Hogsmeade, four separate red hawks appeared on shop frontages. This would be exactly the same imagery as we first reported happening this time last year. It seems whoever is behind the graffiti was happy to bide their time until they could have the biggest impact, with Honeydukes, Dervish and Bangs, The Stylish Salon and Madam Puddifoots all targeted in the campaign.
At the latter, Sapphira Puddifoot told me she plans on pressing charges for the actions. “The Hawk painted out front is nearly impossible to remove, did you know?” She called the action “outrageous”, and with no known enemies of the shop, suspects that “the mysteries occurring at that school have undoubtedly reached Hogsmeade village.” Meanwhile, Monte Bossa, owner of The Stylish Salon, was more concerned with the aesthetics. “It’s horrific,” he told me, visibly distraught. “That shade of red completely clashes with my decor!”
As previously, Hogwarts students were used as the culprits. At Honeydukes, a Ravenclaw student was caught in the act red-handed by Prefects. The Professors in town were swift to react, with new Potions Professor, Ignatius Noble, first to the popular sweet shop. Swiftly gaining a reputation for grumpiness in class since the start of term, he quickly told me to “shove off and take my nosy business elsewhere.” However, Gaston Marchand, the Charms Professor and Gryffindor Head of House, later confirmed that the mode of attack was a repeat of those last year, telling me that one of the students involved “seemed out of it, almost in a trance-like state.” The two students known to have been possessed last year have since moved on from the castle, which makes this latest appearance of the hawk all the more worrying.
The mood in Hogsmeade was certainly left more somber than the start of the day. Whilst Gladrags Wizardwear was left unscathed, Summer Longshadow was clearly shaken by the happenings, admitting to now fearing for her, and her customers’, safety. “My heart goes out to my fellow shopkeepers and the students affected,” she said. Marchand was left wishing he “could've done more to stop this from happening”, having been present in the cursed play rehearsal last year too.
Meanwhile, Hawthorne has been worryingly silent, declining all our requests for comment. Rumour has it she ignored all students requests for help and stayed firmly put in her office at school. It’s unusual behavior indeed for the Headmistress, who is usually quick to quell gossip and confirm things are under control. Have the hawks got under Hawthorne’s skin?

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents The Monthly Hot shop: Atticus's Attic February, 2095
by: Robert Blackburn If you have not yet stopped into Atticus’s Attic First- and Secondhand Music Shop you are missing out. This store is our hot shop of the month and it’s not so hard to look at shopkeeper Atticus Zeller who adds to the hot factor. For anyone who loves music (and even those who don’t) Atticus’s Attic is a place to definitely put on your list, even if it is just to meet Atticus Zeller himself (yes ladies he is single). Atticus might look familiar to some of you and that could be because he was part of a band called Silver Streeler prior to opening his shop in November 2089. Even though the band only had one hit, Foe Glass Reflections, before breaking up, that hasn’t stopped Zeller's diehard fans. When asked why he set up a music shop, Atticus stated that he had been in several bands and circumstances led him to being in the right place to open a shop when he did. With Diagon Alley lacking in music shops this was the perfect place for someone with his talents to give back to the community and bring new musical opportunities to the Alley.
As you walk into the store there is every musical necessity you could ever ask for, muggle and magical alike. Whether you are a musician looking for sheet music and quality instruments, or if you are a fan just looking for your favorite album, posters, or a new shirt to wear, Atticus's Attic is the place for you. The band merchandise section is fully stocked and Zeller is constantly getting new stock to keep up with the ever-growing magical music industry.
Many may not know is there is a full recording studio in the shop and you can pay by the hour to go in and record your own music. This special place is where some up and coming artist might just get their start and get their music heard. When asked about the names that have come through since 2089 Zeller said that the shop hasn’t signed anyone yet, but he has a few things coming in the near future. With all his previous musical experience it isn’t a wonder that Atticus would have his studio fully equipped with all the latest recording devices as well as instruments on hand if you would like to use his and not your own. He is also there to help out throughout the session and answer any questions.
This hot shop is something to check out and take the grand tour if you can. If you haven’t been there yet, what are you waiting for? Now is the best time to think about starting your Christmas shopping and getting that musician or fan in your life something special. Atticus has some great deals going on at the moment, If you buy any vinyl it is buy one, get one half off, his t-shirts are all 20% off, and he will be implementing a frequent buyer program soon for his loyal customers. So whether you haven’t been there in awhile or if haven't yet been at all, there is no time like the present to get down to Diagon Alley and check out Atticus's Attic.

Minister Edition: Catching up with Althea Scabior March, 2095
by: Andrew Chae It seems like just yesterday Althea Scabior was elected as Minister for Magic in 2090, racing to the tops of the polls and winning in a landslide victory after a very successful campaign. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and due to a recently implemented law concerning term limits that came in to affect before Scabior's term began, she was unable to run for re-election after serving her term. The new law prohibits candidates - regardless of their popularity or ability to win another election - from running after their term, and so it was with heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to Minister Scabior, but that certainly doesn't mean she decided to retire from public life entirely!
In fact, Ms. Scabior has been extremely busy with her side projects since leaving. Ever the public servant, she continues to represent Great Britain on the International Confederation of Wizards. The Schirmer-Fawley Foundation still continues to provide funding to Hogwarts graduates pursuing higher education. As she continues her very important work outside the Minister's office, it is imperative that we continue to grow on the foundations she set while she was in office. No profile of our former Minister would be complete without looking at the great strides she made while in office - her eagerness to help bridge the gap between the muggle and magical world, community support for squibs and more awareness about our impact on the environment were all addressed during her time in office. It is vital that we, as citizens, continue to address these issues as a thank you to our great former Minister.
Another question on everyone's mind - will this new law concerning term limits help or hurt the wizarding world? That is a conversation for another day. We are all eagerly waiting to see what our new Minister, Morgan P. Nickels, is going to do with his term and how he will continue to build on the foundations Ms. Scabior provided for him. As a WADA graduate, we know he will definitely make it entertaining!
For now, however, we can only say thank you to Althea Scabior for her time as Minister, and remember her fondly and continue her legacy.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents U17 Quidditch March, 2095
by: Fate Fairwood
By now everyone should know that Quidditch has made its was back to Hogwarts, where I hear kids are in a fever pitch to get on the various house teams. But since the sport has only just returned to the wizarding school, what has kept the dream of being a Quidditch player alive in the teens minds in the interim?
Enter the U17 league! During the hiatus from Quidditch at Hogwarts, the U17 league has become a big part of youth Quidditch scene. Where the best players from around the UK, seventeen and under come together each summer and play the sport they so love.
Of course the U17 isn’t the only way to enjoy Quidditch, there is also a recreational Quidditch league during the summer as well for kids ages 8-17, so if you didn’t make that Hogwarts team or the U 17, do not worry, there are plenty more opportunities to enjoy the sport you love and possibly make a career out of it. There are also Quidditch camps that run every summer as well that are put on by the Ministry. So if you haven’t gotten enough flying during the summer, you can hit bludgers, chase quaffles and seek snitches all summer long.
Now there are five teams for UK, so there are plenty of opportunities to try out and make a team, Once on the team, you stay until you the summer before your 7th year in Hogwarts, once you graduate, you move on to the next big thing! Which is hopefully a spot on one of the many Quidditch teams throughout the Wizarding World.
No matter where you are in the UK, there is a team for you. An England team, whose members are Apollo Kennedy, Skylar Diggory, Tabitha Burke, Théodore Montmorency, and Trevin Locke. A Northern Ireland team, A Republic of Ireland team, Wales and of course a Scotland team. And while most of the rosters look full, that is no reason not to try out.
Try outs happen over Spring break at Exmoor Quidditch Stadium, so get your parents permission and come on down. Your Quidditch dreams could be just waiting to start.
During a game last summer, I managed to snag a few moments with a couple of players from the England team to see how the players enjoyed the leagues. Apollo Kennedy, chaser for the England U17 team had this to say. “I really enjoy playing in the league, it’s the perfect thing to do in the summer, especially if you don’t want your Quidditch skills to get rusty during the break from school.” Théodore Montmorency had this to say, "It's a lot of fun and challenging. if you are not up to par you get beat badly" There we have it, it appears you need to be good to be in the league. Or at least not get beat? Skylar Diggory also added her two cents."Being a part of the under 17 has been a great experience to get to know other players regardless of house or school and learn from them. I can't express how much I've enjoyed the past two seasons of beating with Genny Tate and know she will go on to do great things."
But no matter your ability, come and try out, and keep the U17 leagues growing strong. If you are lucky enough to make the Hogwarts team and the U17 league, you could be playing Quidditch all year long, and who doesn’t want to do that?

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Shopkeepers host Taste of Wizarding London in Diagon Alley May, 2095
by: Jorge Cristo De La Garza
Diagon Alley is pleased to announce that they will be hosting the first-ever Taste of Wizarding London. This event is to help promote the wonderful places around our Wizarding area. Shops across England are welcome to join Diagon Alley as they celebrate the one thing we all have in common; a love for food. Taste of Wizarding London will be held on Saturday, June 25 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. The shopkeepers of Diagon Alley are sponsoring food stands for restaurants, bakeries, and any places that has famous foods to get a chance to shine and promote their appetizers, main courses, finger foods, fast foods, or desserts.
If you own a restaurant, candy store, bakery, or have a business with a signature world-famous dish that you would love to have showcased, owl your application and food stand fee to the Daily Prophet offices to secure your place for the event. If you are just someone who loves to eat food and wants to try the variety of foods available, this event will be open to the public along the main street of Diagon Alley.
That isn't all though! The shops of Diagon Alley have sponsored the Wizarding Cookoff to come for the day and host a show right here in their own park against our own community members. This cookoff will be judged by three judges: Isley Tydings, owner of Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour; Leon Brown, owner of The Hot Bots; and Lorraine Chevalier-Duchamp, owner of La Belle Boulangerie.
"I just can't wait to see what everyone can do, this cookoff will be the inspiration every chef needs. New recipes being shown for the first time, it's just so exciting," Brown stated with clear excitement about the event.
Community members wanting to tryout for the cookoff need to stop by one of the judge's locations to fill out an application.
Concern over the bizarre kidnappings and whether an event should be held have been discussed. The Daily Prophet has been assured that Magical Law Enforcement members will be out in full force protecting our community from whatever has been going on. Please reference our previous issue about the kidnappings for more information.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Quidditch Loves June, 2095
by: Rebecca Towers
With Quidditch Season just ending there is so much buzz about standings, team places, future world cups, and trophies, but the talk that should be hitting the fans is al the juicy gossip that goes with close encounters,
overtime practices, and those late night lockerroom chats. Yes, my fellow readers, we have it all right here for you to find out.
The first bit of gossip should come to no surprise because the minute these two got placed on the same team all thoughts should have gone to whether or not it was a good idea to put the husband and wife together. For the Magpie record, it seems that the Odessa couple were the hottest thing since The Dead Kneazles, but insiders tell us that the score might not be all it's cracked up to be. It seems that having both Alice and West playing for the same team has made the tension with the chasers so thick Bludgers couldn't even cut through. Ross Primeaux, the other chaser, might be feeling a little bit of jealousy from what our witness has been telling us, but with a couple like West and Alice Odessa how could you not be jealous and feel pushed aside when they are the ones taking control of the pitch. Is it that they are just out doing Primeaux or are the lovebirds being Quaffle hogs? Will this be the time for Primeaux to be traded or will the dynamic duo allow for their pitch to become a trio?
While the love is open with the Magpies over at the Catapults facility it seems a secret romance is starting. Our worry is that a certain Canon Beater isn't aware of what's going on with his wife. Lockerroom talk has found our ears and it seems that Esme Whittebrook-Low and Fitz Hamilton are spending more and more time together on and off the pitch. The two have been spotted staying later for some extra one on one time as well as taking their children out for ice cream. Could Giles Low have more to worry about then his career, which we have heard is going to come to a quick end if his knee injury doesn't get any better.
Speaking of career ending issues could it be that the celebrity feud between Kevin O'Brien and teammate Stewart Sinistra is coming to an end with Stewart announcing his retirement? The two have been competing for the fans attention since O'Brien joined the team and their feud on who is more attractive on and off the broom has never been quiet, they have been seen competing for the fans in the street, at restaurants, and even during matchings. Could it be that O'Brien finally won or is Stewart just announcing his retirement to gain that extra attractive piece for fans to swoon over?
You've heard it first here at the Daily Prophet, look here again soon for our summer's hottest news.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Job Fair at Hogwarts June, 2095
by: Louise Hamilton
This past February, Hogwarts hosted a job fair to explore potential careers and open the student population's awareness to alternative fields that they may not have considered before. Students got the chance to speak with those who work in the field and learn about what it takes to succeed in the wizarding world's job market. Alchemy and Potions booth saw returning prefects, Puck Greyvson and Isidora Stark representing their field, whereas the Auror booth saw former Head Girl Alexa Cambridge with Evangeline Shacklebolt, the creative arts booth was hard to miss with the exuberant actress, Amanda Macmillan-Rastrick, accompanied by Fashion Designer, Emmanuelle Moreau-Ewing.
There were the mysteriously plain black boxes for those wanting to try their hand at curse-breaking, which seemed to be an adequately popular table. Perhaps it was due to the appearance of former runes Professor, Viktor Sokolov, or was it Daphne Flamsteed? Either way, a very informative booth and definitely a popular career choice. Healing was also a popular choice, which was maybe due to the fact that they were giving away free healing kits? Or the jovial energy from the two former Hufflepuff Prefects, Amelia Adara, and Vanessa Paton, was hard to miss.
The writing and journalism table held some interesting topics, with author and former Divination professor Nolan Reynolds, alongside fellow Daily Prophet journalist. Perhaps we have some future journalists in our midst? Or just some avid fans of the writing world? Either way, it's nice to know our work is appreciated, ay?
Naturally, with the return of quidditch to Hogwarts this term, it was no surprise to see quite a few students crowding the Professional Quidditch table, eager to find out what it took to play professionally. It seemed most students weren't even just looking for autographs from Beck Salvatore from Tutshill Tornadoes and the current owner of Montrose Magpies, Colin MacKenzie, but actually seemed to have legitimate questions about part-time work and if it was best to focus on one position or several.
Students are always rallying for change, so it wasn't really a surprise that the Ministry of Magic booth was swarming with activity. The variety of job opportunities at the large employee located in the London Underground proved to be eye-opening for many students, perhaps due to the representatives being not much older than themselves?
But it was the Magizoology booth that was attractive to many students in that it provided stories from dragon handler, Fintan Darcy, alongside the Zookeeper at the Scamander Zoo, Khara Darcy and her niffler Plank. Insightful tales of what certifications were required and insights as to their daily duties were shared by those brave enough to approach. No lurking creatures either!
If you had enough of the creatures, then there was always the table filled with plants, repping for the Herbology field. There weren't even man-eating plants, as was rumored to be at Hogwarts several years ago. Or at least not that former Ravenclaws, James Wilkes and Spike Hutchinson would let on, but they were simply trying to promote their field not scare people from it! Naturally, the Hufflepuff Captain and future Herbology professor (maybe?) was present at that booth, inquiring about the path to become a Herbologist and the University requirements along with good herbology research programs. Though it wouldn't have been a bore to Wilkes or Hutchinson, she did spare them some official plant terminology.
Lastly, and the largest table, was that for Wizarding University, being staffed by Edinburgh Professor, Gavin McNally and Copenhagen Professor, Ragnild Westergaard. The professors weren't even overwhelmed but graciously explained the advantages to Wizarding University and all that it had to offer to the many students to grace the table, from first to seventh years. The draw to the table existed even before the sudden appearance of candles dripping red paint and the hawk bearing the all too familiar message of "Expose the inequality! End the struggle".
Despite the eerie message interrupting the job fair, the event proved successful and inviting, with all the various professions represented. It seemed to be enjoyable by the masses, along with very informative.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Statute Broken, One Culprit Apprehended, Another on the Run June, 2095
by: Brutus Trimble Saturday, May 28th, was meant to be a pre-exam day-trip for Hogwarts students to the sleepy Muggle town of Dufftown. All started off as planned, with all present in their best Muggle attire and keeping wands hidden. However, things quickly turned sour. Students had barely managed to get beyond the main square before the strange occurrences that have been plaguing Hogwarts struck once again. Eyewitness reports estimated that at least three-quarters of students present on what was meant to be a relaxing trip became possessed, causing them to break the Statute of Secrecy and repeat the same haunting slogan: “Expose the inequality. End the struggle.”
Those present on the trip pinpointed the root of the chaos on Melanie and Duncan Williams, both professors at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and part of the contingent sent during the 2092-93 International Magical Pupil Standoff (IMPS). Upon making their appearance, they blew what was later discovered to be corpse powder tampered with Dark Magic on Professor Stewart (Muggle Studies), who then possessed students through previously stolen belongings that were cursed. Ms. Williams went on to demobilize Professors Kennedy and Vance.
During the previous incident in Hogsmeade, we reported that Headmistress Hawthorne seemingly refused to attend to matters. This time, following a Patronus sent by Kennedy, Hawthorne quickly responded and brought with her competent members of staff: Professors Hirsch, Noble, Marchand, and Curtains stepped in to defuse the situation and quickly return students to Hogwarts by Portkey. Hawthorne herself took on her former colleague, Melanie Williams. The other Williams was bravely pursued by students, including Slytherin Captain Skylar Diggory and Ravenclaw Jacen Reed, but managed to escape.
As for Kaysha Stewart, she had unknowingly been playing ventriloquist dummy since the end of IMPS for the Williams twins, both of whom wanted to expose the Wizarding World to Muggles and encourage them to help eradicate the pure-blood hierarchy. This prompted the appearances of red hawks throughout the school, the possession and cursing of a number of students, and the suggestion of what was intended to be a lighthearted visit to Dufftown. Stewart has been moved to St. Mungo’s for recovery. It remains unclear whether she will be deemed fit to return to Hogwarts for the forthcoming academic term.
Fortunately, no Muggles were harmed during this incident and all memories of the event were promptly wiped at the scene by a team of Obliviators. Members of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement then apprehended Melanie Williams for further interrogation and sentencing to Azkaban. Her brother Duncan Williams, however, is still at large. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is urged to contact Magical Law Enforcement.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Should parents be concerned bringing their children to Diagon Alley? June, 2095
by: Robert Blackburn
Our children are still going missing.
A year after the initial child abductions, Law Enforcement and the wizarding community seem no closer to solving this unsettling mystery. Most recently, Justin (7), Aria (5) and Timothy (3) were taken from the alley all within the same week of each other. Much like the other children that have consistently been taken, they were also returned in what appears to be excellent condition. Some have even requested to be sent back!
Tales of toys, cake and ice-cream roll off each little tongue, as well as mentions of a friend whose name none seem capable of remembering.
“Whoever’s been taken these kiddos doesn’t look like they’ve got some plan to hurt ‘em. None that we’ve been able to find so far. All the kids examined—these three included—passed all health checks and didn’t appear to be in any worse condition than before they were taken.” Said Healer’s Assistant at St. Mungo’s, Todd Leighton.
The clearest indication of foul play, besides the actual kidnappings, is the apparent lack of memory among the children. It is a pattern found throughout, leaving the children unable to definitively say how they went missing, who may have taken them or where they were taken. Crucial information like this being withheld has made it equally difficult for the DMLE to get a real read on the case.
“Motive’s usually one of the easiest ways of making a break in a case like this. Kids being returned unharmed and talking like they just got back from their favourite theme park doesn’t add up to the malicious intent we typically deal with on a daily basis. Even if the memories are fabricated, the fact still remains that whoever had ‘em took decent care of them before releasing them back into the alley at roughly the same intervals. What sort of criminal kidnaps kids just to show ‘em a good time then return ‘em? We answer that question, and we’ll solve this problem.” Alexa Cambridge, Senior Auror down at the Ministry stated. “We have a few theories but none we’re willing to share with the public at this time.”
With only a few weeks until Diagon Alley hosts its Taste of Wizarding London event, many individuals—parents specifically—are wondering if it’s even safe to take their children along for what is meant to be a fun family outing.
The Prophet has received word that some members of Law Enforcement will be keeping a presence at the event in order to prevent any disappearances but they suspect that it may unfortunately still affect crowd turnout.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Turmoil in the Ministry, Coincidence or planned? August, 2095
by: Kara St. Cloud
Recent reports out of the Ministry of Magic indicate that there may be some type of turmoil brewing as no less than five department heads departed within days of each other. This is the highest in Ministry history, and no clear explanations for the mass exodus have yet been provided. It comes amongst reports of a persistent rapid turnover rate of lower level employees. This was something raised by many candidates during election season, but something we have never heard discussed by the newest minister of magic. Could it be something in the water? Or is the ever-wacky behavior of Minister Morgan P. Nickels driving people away?
The departing department heads have been identified as Erec Decroix of International Magical Cooperation, Mariel De La Garza of Magical Games and Sports, Gidyun and Becca Yenorin of Magical Law Enforcement and Magical Creatures respectively and Delphine Cavanagh, the now former Senior Undersecretary and head of the Minister’s Office. Of their replacements, only Victoria Culloden (Magical Games and Sports) and January Bones (Senior Undersecretary/Minister’s Office) can boast of being from the British Ministry itself (though the information was scarce for Mercy Peckham) furthering speculation that it is indeed the Minister’s behavior driving people away. The rest of the replacements have been pulled from other countries entirely, with two from France (Isaac Muir and Conley Phora, Magical Law Enforcement and International Magical Cooperation respectively), signaling that news of the turmoil has not yet reached beyond the borders of Great Britain.
Further complicating matters is the news of some sort of mass food poisoning event in the past year, causing rumors of Minister Nickels’ behavior now affecting his ability to properly run the Ministry. Rumors of the potential food poisoning surfaced late December, but the Minster's office has recently confirmed that the food court was hit by an odd set of food poisoning that they can not explain. Was it bad eggs or something more sinister? When asking for a comment from the Minister himself we were told he was too busy to worry about the press. Could the minister really be working hard or is he trying to get the Ministry to pay for another vacation like he did earlier this year with his employee orientation being at a ski lodge instead of the more usual formal affairs?
We here at the Daily Prophet are keeping a close eye on this situation and will bring you more as we learn it.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents How to blend with Muggles September, 2095
by: Sapientia
Are you struggling with some inner problems that you need another eye to look in? Maybe you are in need of some advice from a stranger instead of a loved one that knows too much about you? If any of this sounds familiar you have come to the right place and asking Sapientia is just what you need.
Dear Sapientia,
How do I act like a muggle when I meet my muggleborn partner's parents and extended family?
Sincerely,
Learning to be Muggleborn
First, I want to say this is probably the most common question asked of all time! How do we act like a muggle, when we clearly are not muggles. Try and act like yourself first. Do not try to be who you are not. Clearly though, you need to avoid magic at all costs. For example, if you are asked to carry a platter to the table, use your hands not your wand.
Muggles are just like us, without the magic. Do you remember what it was like when you could not do magic as a child? Return yourself to those days. Everything must be done by hand. Washing dishes, scrubbing floors, even turning on a light switch. You need to at least know the basics of electricity and even plumbing. I suggest going to Flourish and Blotts and reading up on some of the muggle books, to help you with the basic knowledge of a muggle home.
Just remember the muggles are just like us, just without magic.
Best of Luck,
Sapientia

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents What Happened to Hogwarts' Most Eligible Bachelors? November, 2095
by: Ellana Bergenstein
Yes, that is right, dear readers. You have read the title of this piece correctly. Did I hear a faint gasp, a distant wail, or a chuckle upon realizing that most of Hogwarts most eligible bachelors have been taken?
Whilst we are all aware that the charming gentleman, Professor Gatson Marchand, fell in love and married the beautiful Rosalyn Newton. The wizarding community could have mourned the great loss of these two bachelors but instead chose to celebrate the union. In fact, rumor has it that the two of them now have welcomed a beautiful child. Congratulations to you, Marchands. Many happy beginnings. Speaking of happy beginnings, two lovebirds have been spotted! The two Hogwarts staff alum have happily been spotted in love. And yes, students, if you guessed that there was something between Healer River Reed and Ex-Professor Cami Stewart have become an item! Ooh yes, how exciting indeed. Congrats to the lovebirds!
Though with happy beginnings and lovebirds come strange tidings. Rumor has it at Hogwarts that the smooth Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, Roderik Hirsch, has found a companion. LE GASP. OH MON DIEU. Now whether this lady a fellow co-worker or a beautiful Healer is something of a different matter. There is evidence supporting either claim to be true. No comment about Regina Hawthorne though some students could claim that something is sizzling there. It is also interesting to note that sweet Kalen Kennedy has also found love. Will it last or will it be a temporary thing? Who knows? Though my sources admit that he did visit his lady friend's parents so it must be getting somewhat serious. Also now a twist of our fate, I hope you are prepared for this juicy detail. The lovely Laurel Vance may be falling for an ex-professional Quidditch player, who's name will remain unknown for fear of stirring up a jealous frenzy. The two have been seen out and about throughout London and the Hogsmeade area. In fact, one insider wrote to me and informed me of owls that suspiciously go to and from the Divination tower.
Dear reader. Do not fret. There are still a handful of bachelors still left. The love lives of Tristan Wayland, Kashya Stewart, the mysterious Charles Curtains, Celestia Grimsbane, the rugged Haraldur Baldvinsson, Bethany Holmes, and the stern Ignatius Noble are still locked at the present until I can delve deeper into the narrative. However, I must continue to research for you, dearest reader. Kisses as always. -Ellana xx

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents St. Mungo's to do birth study on multiple births December, 2095
by: Ulla Lars
St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries has today announced they are undertaking a special study regarding the increase in multiple births to magical mothers in recent years. The research will be conducted by St Mungo's in cooperation with several international magical medical institutions.
"The birthrate of multiples has increased substantially in the past 20 years, and while this is also true of the muggle world to a lesser degree, relating to older mothers and the use of fertility treatments, in magical cases there appears to be an even higher likelihood of multiple births and we want to understand why." A representative said. "We aim to look at the exposure of the parents of multiples, particularly the mothers during pregnancy, to different spells and potions, as well as to magically resonant areas."
The study will take into account birth records in magical hospitals alongside a survey of parents of multiples, and ongoing observation of women currently pregnant with multiples.
Members of the wizarding public with multiples who are interested in participating in the research should contact St Mungo's Research Department for more information.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Hoard Found in Hogwarts' Lake December, 2095
by: Opal Mainwaring
One of the largest Viking hoards ever reported has been discovered at the bottom of Hogwarts’ Great Lake, the Wizarding Treasure Trove Unit at the British Museum has confirmed today. The treasure, made up of more than 80 objects in total, was found by students doing a extra-curricular exploration of the lake led by Care of Magical Creature Professor Tristan Wayland, and long term resident of the lake, Bartholomew Henry. Students spotted the treasure in a dark cavern, although were scared off by a clan of angry grindylows that had been disturbed with their presence. Staff later returned to retrieve the rest of the hoard, with Headmistress and Ancient Runes Professor Regina Hawthorne and Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor Roderik Hirsch declaring the items free of dark magic before turning it over to officials.
Michaela Irvine, head of the Treasure Trove Unit, described the find as “simply stunning,” comparing it to the famed “Galloway Hoard” discovered in nearby Dumfriesshire just over 80 years ago. Amongst the items were 53 coins of various origins, including not only Viking, but also Saxon, Islamic, Frankish and Arabic, and several silver ingots. Whilst further investigation needs to take place of the larger pieces, one of the highlights of the collection is a Celtic penannular brooch with a distinct symmetrical shape incorporating dog and bird ornamentations similar to those found in the Book of Kells. The style is a distinct contrast to a second silver brooch in the hoard, which is Viking in style and inscribed with gaunt, almost haunting faces.
It is not unusual for a hoard to contain objects from multiple cultures, Irvine said, adding that it added to an “intriguing tale of Viking movements as they traveled across Scotland.” Why the treasure was in a cave at Hogwarts remains an open question, but Headmistress Hawthorne hopes it will prove inspiring for students and provide them with a hands-on opportunity for further inquiry and critical thinking. “We hope that the hoard can be returned to Hogwarts after being assessed,” she said, “as a unique historical and cultural learning experience.”

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Hogwarts Hoard to Headline New Exhibition January, 2096
by: Opal Mainwaring
The Scottish National Museum for Wizarding Artefacts announced a major new exhibition today, A Brief History of Wizarding Scotland, opening in Edinburgh on 1st August 2096. Dr. Agnes Pike, curator of the exhibition, explained to the Prophet how it will take visitors on a journey from prehistory right up to the current day. “The Wizarding community has a long and varied history in Scotland, with multiple periods of persecution and acceptance,” she told me as we wandered through the new space. “This exhibit will invite visitors to reconnect with that past, weaving the narrative into the broader landscape of history both Muggle and magical.”
The centerpiece of the exhibition will be the recently discovered ‘Hogwarts Hoard,’ found by students on a field trip in the Great Lake, displayed alongside a stunning 10th-century tapestry from the museum’s collection. The tapestry was found just 30 miles south of Hogwarts castle and illustrates a wizard and Vikings in talks, looted treasures, and a battle with the Scots. After close inspection of both the tapestry and the hoard side-by-side, experts believe the treasure depicted and hoard discovered at Hogwarts are one and the same, suggesting it tells the story of how the hoard came to be hidden. “It really blew us away when we realized the significance of the two pieces together,” said Dr. Pike. “What a once in a lifetime discovery.”
Before headlining the exhibition though, both the tapestry and treasure will be headed to Hogwarts for the remainder of the academic year, as stipulated by Headmistress Regina Hawthorne in the loan agreement. “I couldn’t help but request that the hoard be temporarily returned to the school with the accompanying tapestry. When Dr. Pike owled me, I instantly saw this as an amazing learning opportunity. I want the students to have an opportunity to thoroughly examine these artifacts, interpret history, and really appreciate the significance of what they found.”

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Scamander Zoo Celebrates 80 Years February, 2096
by: Brutus Trimble Scamander Zoo, Britain's primary magical creature sanctuary, today celebrates its eightieth anniversary of the facility's founding and reopens its doors after being on a short hiatus for renovations.
The zoo was founded by members of the Scamander family in February of 2016 with the purpose of providing the creatures that renowned magizoologist Newton Scamander wrote about in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with a place of refuge. Furthermore, the zoo was to also provide a means for the wizarding population to connect with the creatures residing there in a safe, contained environment. Starting off by maintaining a collection of creatures native to Britain, Scamander Zoo has since expanded to beasts from around the world for study and conservation. Hundreds of thousands of wizards and witches have gone the zoo since its opening and the number of visitors continues to grow.
"I am proud of the work that has been happening here," shared Jonah Scamander, director of the zoo. "We remain very focused on the zoo's core values, as shown by the dedication our employees have for the creatures we care for and the opportunities we have provided to the public these many decades. I am excited for the years ahead and creatures that are to come."
In celebration of embarking on its eighth decade of existence, the zoo, temporarily closed since December, is now open with a new layout.
"There has recently been a huge internal transformation. Prior to renovations, the many creatures that were housed here were sorted into buildings based on the classification categories established by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures," said Scamander. "Now we have an array of enclosures that groups our creatures in a more suitable way. There is even a playground, where younger visitors can interact with Crups, Kneazles, Nifflers, and more. It is a change that I am sure visitors will love."
Scamander Zoo, located inside a run-down opera house across from the London Zoo, is currently open to the public during regular zoo hours. Admission rates have been discounted for a limited time and visitors will receive an exclusive goodie-bag in honour of the zoo's anniversary.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Produc Review: Transcriber 2096 June, 2096
by: Kara St. Cloud
I was recently lucky enough to be one of a select few members of the press to try out the new Transcriber 2096 at Bewitches Amazing Quills Company. At first glance, it resembles a rather fancy muggle ballpoint pen, with a slick silver design and easy to hold grip. But with a small shake, it reveals its true nature as an easier to use version of the Quick Quotes Quill (with a second small shake turning it back to a simple, usable pen). A rather more accurate one too, as it transcribed almost every word spoken in its vicinity perfectly.
This perfect quill had to have some downfall since many newly invented items always do. One drawback is in that very feature that you will at first love so much, as it picks up every noise around, even something as small as nails tapping on a table’s surface. So its safe to say that even if your target is mumbling under their breath, the Transcriber will be sure to catch it. That said, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in need of such a device, from students to fellow reporters.
The Transcriber 2096 costs two galleons and will be available at stationary stores starting on June 23 at every store that carries your variety of quills. If you mention this article you can get 10% off your purchase at selected stores.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Inferi Attack Hogwarts June, 2096
by:Fate Fairwood
Some readers may recall a number of articles that were written months ago about a hoard of treasure being found at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as well as a viewing of said hoard along with a tapestry depicting how the items came to Hogwarts. It turns out that this hoard wasn't such a good thing after all. Late May presented Hogwarts with an army of Inferi attacked who were cursed wanted their precious treasure back.
I have first hand reports of people saying that, after a warning from Mercheiftenes Arethusa, the Inferi rose out of the Great Lake and started attacking mercilessly. No matter how many fire spells were cast, no matter how many students and teachers got in there way, not even the castle itself or building could slow them down. They mowed right through all obstacles to get what they wanted: their treasure hoard.
Once the entire hoard was returned to the army of reanimated corpses, they quickly left and returned to the depths of the underwater cave from which they came. Many students and faculty that were involved in the battle were severely wounded and needed expert care. Fortunately, though, no one died during the unexpected attack.
All of this of course begs the question of whether or not Hogwarts safe for children to return to in the future. This is has become a concern that students, parents, and community members alike are up in arms about.
It turns out that the staff have placed several protective enchantments on the cave and have sealed the entrance up as a safety precaution, but the ultimate decision of how to handle the Inferi lies with the Ministry of Magic. Hopefully the employees of the various departments involved will be making the proper decisions of what to do with the creatures and how to keep our school safe from those deadly creatures and any other potential threats.
Following the aftermath, I had the opportunity to speak with Headmistress Regina Hawthorne about what went down at the school and got a few comments from her regarding what happened and whether or not the school is safe. "I honestly cannot say the incident that occurred could have been foreseen. It certainly took us all by surprise," she stated. "And I would have to disagree with those who are saying Hogwarts is all of a sudden not safe. There is always something happening at the school that has the potential to put lives at risk. Regardless, the staff and students have proven to be rather vigilant and capable defending themselves against all odds."
I also was able to reach out to Dr. Agnes Pike, curator of the exhibition that the Hogwarts' hoard was set to feature in at the Scottish National Museum for Wizarding Artefacts. "I'm terribly sorry to hear about the devastation wreaked on Hogwarts by the Inferi to regain their treasure," she told me by owl. "Of course, we can only speculate how they came to be its guardians and why. However, all evidence suggests that they had been in that cave for well over a millennium, since before Hogwarts itself was even built."
That evidence pertains to not just dating the hoard itself, but also a tapestry that was accompanying the hoard on display. It showed a wizard alongside a battle between the Scots and Vikings. I pressed Dr. Pike on her interpretations of the scenes, the pictured wizard being the potential creator of the Inferi, and whether there is a chance the Dark creatures would attack again. "It's very plausible the wizard did raise them, yes. One of the panels say 'defend and protect,' which it sounds like the Inferi were doing on his behalf in the end. Of course, that wizard will be long deceased by now, so their quest will be fulfilled as long as the treasure stays in place."
So what of the exhibition? "It's a disappointment to lose our headline piece, but the safety of the students is much more important."
Once again, it seems to be an exciting conclusion to the school year at Hogwarts. Let's hope next year is a little quieter.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Star Students of the Year August, 2096
by: Sundae Primeaux
As another year of learning has come to an end we look back at some brightest witches and wizards heading out into the world. Here at the Daily Prophet we would like to Highlight a few students who we think have shown exemplary characteristics, positive attitudes and carry a bright light as they go out into the adult wizarding world. The first installment of this feature, Star Students, will be Introducing three graduates from Hogwarts this past June; Ronan Carter, Valkyrie Atwater, and Skylar Diggory.
First off we have Ronan Carter, he is a Gryffindor and the Head boy. Ronan enjoys cooking and was a contestant in last summers Taste of Wizarding London. In addition to cooking, he does boxing and photography. His activities at Hogwarts include drama with roles in both plays the last two terms that the club put on. As well as dueling club, Art club, magical debate, and quiz bowl. He is a photographer for the school newspaper The Quill. His post Hogwarts goals are applying to the YETI program in the Department of magical law enforcement in the ministry.
Next, we have Valkyrie Atwater, a Slytherin who spends most of her time studying, reading, or on the Quidditch pitch. She balances both out well and has achieved high marks in all subjects. Other activities while at Hogwarts included Dueling club, Flying club, Art club, and The Bookworms book club. In the fall she plans to go to Wizarding University with a double major in Wizarding Communications and Wizarding Law.
Our third and final star-studded graduate is Skylar Diggory, Slytherin's Captain of the Quidditch team. This past summer was her last year on her U-17 team. She played beater on both teams. In addition to Quidditch Skylar was on the gobstones team, a member of drama club, the bookworms book club, flying club, and creature companions. As well as a writer for the school newspaper The Quill. After Hogwarts she plans on pursuing either journalism or curse-breaking.
We would like to congratulate these young adults as well as all of the other graduates this term and wish them the best of luck in the future. Stay tuned for the next installment of our feature in the next school term.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Fashion Charm of the Month: The Embroidery Charm September, 2096
by:Nomi Caplan
In today's world Witches and Wizards are busier than ever. With work, social lives, children, bills, pets, and other things it is no wonder that we begin to neglect ourselves, but one place we should never ever neglect is fashion. No dear readers fashion can be done simply and is very easy to keep. I will be bringing you the latest in the fashion charms every month in this new piece here at the Daily Prophet.
The first charm that we will be talking about is something that will take you from flab to fab.
Embroidery is a beautiful way of creating a picture for yourself or your loved ones. It allows for imagination to run free. The design of the embroidered piece will be a black cat with a lovely collar and a cute wizarding cloak. Note that this embroidery can be done on an item of clothing such as a jacket, wizarding robes etc.
To create a stunning piece of embroidery you will need the following items:
Yarn/wool of various colours (black, yellow, silver, green and red will be used for this design)
Quilting Cotton for the canvas
Your wand
The incantations “Locomotor necto” (Embroidery Charm), “Reneo” (Unravelling Charm – Great for undoing any mistakes), “Finite” (When you’re done with the piece of wool/yarn you’re currently using) and “Ora” to frame your work.
Quill and parchment to help design your masterpiece
Step 1: Gather your equipment. Get your quill and parchment and take your time to draw a detailed design. Include every aspect of your final piece such as markings, collar design. The more realistic, the better.
Step 2. Once you are happy with your design, it is time to begin. Concentrate on your design and grab your black wool/yarn. Point your wand at the wool/yarn and move it towards your canvas in the shape of a black cat that is curled up whilst saying, “Locomotor necto”. Continue doing so until the cat’s fur is filled in. Point your wand at the canvas and say, “Finite”.
Step 3: For the cat’s eyes, green wool/yarn will be used. Aim your wand tip where the cat’s eyes would be located and say, “Locomotor necto” as you move your wand in the shape of a cat’s eyes. Point your wand at the canvas and say, “Finite”. For the cat’s pupils, use black wool/yarn and perform the Embroidery Charm at the centre of each eye, ensuring your wand movement is that of a small oval-like shape like a slit. Then say, “Finite.”
Step 4: Now for the cat’s whiskers and nose which will be silver in this instance. For the whiskers, move your wand in small, quick strokes on each side of the cat’s face while saying “Locomotor necto” (three per side should do the trick). Then cast, “Finite” and move your wand to the middle of the feline’s face, where its nose would be and as you move your wand in an upside-down triangle, perform the Embroidery Charm. Once again, perform “Finite.”
Step 5: For the collar, simply point your wand at the red wool/yarn and then move it so it sits a bit below the cat’s neckline just like a necklace. Complete that part by saying, “Finite”.
Step 6: Now, the cloak is optional, but I decided on adding this detail because of the magical affinity with black cats. I’m using yellow, but you can select any colour you like. Point your wand at your wool/yarn and then aim it just behind the cat’s neck (opposite to where the collar is) and move it in the shape of a small cloak and then filling the colour of the cloak in so it is a solidly-coloured object. Next, say, “Finite.”
Step 7: Frame your masterpiece by aiming your wand a couple of millimetres outside your canvas and as you move your wand in the shape of a square (like a picture frame) say, “Ora”, followed by “Finite”.
If you follow my steps you will have now mastered the charm and have found the best way to bring fashion to any old clothing. Now go out and show the world what an amazing fashion statement you are.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Hawthorne Dismissed from Hogwarts September, 2096
by: Brutus Trimble
After numerous questions from parents about the safety of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Board of Governors, with support from the Ministry of Magic, waited until the twelfth hour to take action for the new school term. Former Headmistress Regina Hawthorne was dismissed by a letter from Alanna Marsh on behalf of the Governors at the Start-of-Term Feast yesterday evening, barely moments before she was due to giving her opening remarks for the new academic term. The letter was hand delivered by her appointed successor, Julian Scrimageour, who arrived with a new Divination professor Calvin Fletcher in tow.
Scrimgeour certainly has the credentials to improve security and protect the next generation of witches and wizards at Hogwarts; a decorated ex-Auror, he's best known for the capture of the Dark wizard duo Isaiah and Jeremiah Furey, which resulted in the loss of his wand arm and a prompt retirement.
In his speech to students, he chose to emphasise progressive changes that will be taking place, highlighting a current lack of safety protocol and discipline. “Hogwarts will soon be world class once more,” Scrimgeour told the Prophet by return owl. “Structure will be the key to the future success of the school, and new initiatives will soon come into fruition for the betterment of the students.”
Hawthorne, meanwhile, was stoic despite her newfound unemployed status after a five year tenure at Hogwarts. “The school will continue to persevere come what may, and I will do the same,” she responded, having nothing more she wished to say on the matter.
There were a large number of other staffing changes this year. Gaston Marchand (Charms) was promoted to Deputy Head, after the retirement of Paul Myers at the end of last year. Alongside Myers, Roderick Hirsch and Laurel Vance also left over the summer, leading to Ignatius Noble (Potions), Kaysha Stewart (Muggle Studies) and Kalen Kennedy (Astronomy) stepping into the role of Head of House for Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin respectively. Ancient Runes will be taught be former curse-breaker Katrina Sabra, Arithmancy by Foster Davis, Herbology by Joshua Wishart and History of Magic by Alice O'Hara.

| Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... presents Making Your Galleons Count: Travel Edition October, 2096
by:Simon Stackton
Not everyone who suffers from Wanderlust has the galleons to float for a five-star resort stay. That doesn't mean that staying close to home is the only option, though. With multitude of ways to ball on a budget, you can follow these handy tips to seeing beautiful places and not break the vault. Whether you want to remain on the continent or not, there are always deals floating around if only one has the desire to look. From places to stay to transport the Muggle way, I am your man with the plan! So buckle in and join me on this wild ride as I lead you through several options for traveling on a budget.
1. Hostels are your best friend!
Okay, don't make that face! Hostels have come a long way over the years and they are still a favorite of mine for budget reasons, but also the family vibe most places give off. Not to mention the fact that you never know who you may meet whilst in the shared kitchen or having a stay in the garden! Here are some of my favorites, both Muggle and Wizarding as well.
If you find yourself in Paris look no further than The Loft. Especially if you are traveling sans tiny humans. It is an adult only hostel that boasts many amenities and is located only four kilometers from The Louvre Museum. If that wasn't enough to sell you on this hidden gem, they also provide two meals a day which is included in your 26 euro a night bill. And yes, that being said, it is a Muggle establishment so keep your wands away!! I do, however, have a sneaking suspicion that the lovely little lady who runs the place may very well be a witch. Wink, wink. I also suspect that they have a house elf whipping up all of their food. There is no way they could produce so much volume without a little magic. Of course, I have no real proof, only a suspicion that brings me back there time and again in the hopes of solving the mystery!
Some other hostels of note are as follows: Ursa Minor in Rome, Italy, and El Toro Y Arana in Madrid, Spain. Both are Wizarding establishments and can be reached via their respective Knight Bus equivalent. I strongly suggest taking the night in the Courtyard of Ursa Minor as the light show is marvelous and unrivaled... except for the actual Northern Lights.
2. Muggle Travel Ain't for Chumps!
When trying to remain low key and fly under the radar, it is often the best idea to opt for Muggle transport when seeing the world. While there are multitude modes of transportation, one that stands out across Europe is the Inter-rail system. I swear by it even. It is a very affordable way to see the world flash by as you move country to country. While it is not the instant gratification sort of travel most of us have gotten used to, I enjoy the scenery it presents. Often times we are moving too fast or are far too wrapped up in an end goal that we don't pause to appreciate the Swiss Alps as the train moves through them. Or seeing the beauty of the Czech Republic on your way to Prague. Whatever your ultimate destination, the best way to see it all and get there in comfort is Interrailing!
3. Immerse Yourself!
If ever you have the opportunity to take a holiday of cultural immersion, I say go for it! Being it is a newer trend there are travel agencies popping up all over the Wizarding and Muggle worlds that offer these types of holidays. Often times these are volunteer types, but they are, in my honest opinion, the only way to go. Imagine yourself in a hut amongst the natives of a far off country... hunting and harvesting your meals as they do. Sounds like a dream come true for me. Now imagine yourself in a real Buddhist temple in Nepal. This particular retreat offers early morning yoga on the monasteries roofs. How brilliant is that? The one thing I will stress about these types of retreats is that they are not, I repeat, ARE NOT holidays in which you will live in the lap of luxury. You will indeed be among the same conditions as the natives to the area. Be gracious and kind and leave the place just as you found it. Oh and don't complain about the lack of running water if you find yourself up a mountain... or the bugs if you're in a forest. Do your research and know what you are getting yourself into.
If you want a luxury experience this is NOT for you!
4. The Best Advertisement...
I cannot tell you how many times I have seen tourists off in other countries relying only on a guidebook or some other sort of material. Talk to your mates, your neighbors, your relatives! Find out about that awesome ski holiday your auntie took to the Alps. I am telling you, I have found more hidden gems by reaching out to people I know that any guidebook can tell me. Furthermore, if you are seeking Wizard Only communities it is a no-brainer. What about your mate you went to university with that moved to Kyoto for work? Contact him or her! Word of mouth is the best way to go often times. As I mentioned before, there are also the hidden gems that only a local or frequent visitor will know to point you to. Like the Hair of the Dog pub in Dublin, which I highly recommend... it's not one you will find in a guidebook, but it is Wizard owned and run. So you see, there are multitude ways to find your way to a great adventure, but do some research into it first.
For all of your travel and adventure needs, I will be taking on the laborious task of traveling far and wide to bring you tales and tips from far off places. Keep your eyes peeled for more to come, from cuisine to hiking trails, and much much more.
