Piper looked around and wondered if the guy was going to speak to her. It would just make her look like a fool if he didn't and she would feel bad. Piper wondered who else there was to talk to if this didn't work.
She smiled at the guy. "Good evening to you too." Piper said with her Scottish accent. "So what part of the Ministry do you work in?" she aske him. "Sorry to be so rude. I'm Piper Pierce." she told him with a small smile.
The dark eyes of the man fell on the girl, looking rather bored, and uninterested as was normal for the young lad. He gave a nod at her first statement, being practically a mirror to what he had said only a moment ago.
Holden tapped his foot lightly black oxfords making a light, muffled sound. But his head rolled slightly as she asked him a question, which of course, he'd have to answer. "I work in the ministers office. I'm one of the payroll coordinators. We handle all of the money and that, you know." he replied rather proudly. Yeah, that's right. He was in charge of everyone's money. Including hers. "And you? What line of work are you in?" he asked simply to keep the conversation moving. He didn't really care.
Ah, right. Introductions. That had to happen sometime, didn't it? He sighed, and announced his own name. "Holden Avalon," He said simply. "Pleasure." And of course, he extended his hand only because it was part of routine.

Piper looked into his dark eyes with her ocean blue ones. She wondered at that moment what the guy was thinking and wondered if it was rude on her part for wondering so much. She knew that she wasn't a mind reader but oh well. At that point she wanted to be and that was the first time in her twenty-five years of life that she ever wanted to know what that person was thinking about.
So he worked in the Minister's office. That was a nice job to have. She had wished that she got a job that good but she liked the one that she had at the moment and she was glad to not have any promotion anytime soon. "I work in Magical Transportation." she smiled kindly. "Minister's Office? That's a good job. So do you like your job." she told him with a nod.
Piper looked at his extended hand and shook it. "It's lovely to meet you Holden."

But the people need a lift so we put on a smile and push forward." She gave him a slight smile and sipped at her champagne, "Care to escort me this evening? We can be miserable together." Sounded like a plan to her and if Hunter did show up he might think twice. A win-win situation.
Even without actually looking at the blonde woman, Dorian had sensed that Laurie had found interest in his response and looked up at him. Even so, he paused a moment, continuing to watch everyone who was actually mingling and looked to be enjoying things, before glancing back down at her. At least Wes looked to be uncomfprtable in his suit, if not other details. Seeing as the other man was with Isobel, obviously not trying to hide their relationship anymore. That had been obvious to him even before the search for D'Isigny had put them on the same team, but that wasn't relevant. "Not everyone," he said simply, as Laurie's words had once again sent his mind back to Gwendolyn and he'd looked back up as he brought his glass to his lips again. She hadn't wanted anything from him, not in a vicious way or however Laurie was inferring the statement. That was another irrelevant thing, however and he glanced back down after only a moment. "Of course the people here want things from us. That's our job." And their jobs never ceased, even if they were no longer trying to survive under the Cult leadership.
He'd caught her reaction to the sight of Recard the waiter, as well, and that amused him. It was interesting to know that the dislike of the former Transportation head extended through the entirety of MLE. Granted, that imbecilic suspension of Apparition licenses had extended to the Wizengamot, but beyond that he hadn't thought things had been quite as on edge among that end. Laurie had always seemed more focused on her work than anything else, so knowing she could actually get out of that mode was refreshing. Maybe they could manage to avoid too much work for the night, but he shrugged at her reaction to his last statement. "True. I can't help but wait for the other shoe to fall," he replied. D'Isigny was still out there, even if they'd caught most of the other influential cultists. Something was inevitable, and he knew enough to not think otherwise. Her suggestion that had followed threw him off slightly, however, but after another cursory scan of the room, he shrugged again. Why not, he thought, offering her an arm silently. At least he could be sure there wouldn't be any flirting with Laurie. And the fact she could provide intelligent conversation was a plus.

"Getting scolded at for cleaning since apparently im "delicate" and "fraigle"." She rolled her eyes at that, "Oh and im not suppose to clean since i'm pregnant even though that doesnt stop me." She laughed, "Are you happy the stike is over?"

Lights mock-curtsied back, her eyes dancing. "You may," she replied, taking Ethan's arm and walking with him into the party. She hadn't been anywhere like this without the kids in four years, and realised how much she'd missed it.

Elizabeth nodded, "It is exciting." She smiled, "No.... not yet. Kade has been super busy recently so we haven't talked much so we haven't though of names yet, though if you have any ideas, I would love to hear them." When Nicole had asked about KAde, "Oh he is busy at work..... again." She tried to keep her smile though she was getting tired of KAde having to work again. Elizabeth was a little sad that after eleven years absence that he would at least try to not work all the time especially when she was due soon. She realized that she was being a little quiet and blushed slightly, "He is always busy now a days but he has an important job and has to travel a lot." Elizabeth absentmindly put her hand on her baby bump again, a thing she does when she is slightly upset.
"I'll let you know if I have any," Nicole said with a smile. She frowned a little at Kade having to work, "Will he come later?" She listen to Elizabeth saying he is always busy, Nicole wondered the same thing. He always seemed to be working. Nicole really hasn't seen Kade herself, only about two or three times she has known Elizabeth.

Certainly she wasn't serious?
"And what, might I ask, has lead you to think such a thought?" Rafael didn't lend his arm to just any woman, no matter the occasion. He would need a reason. A damn good one.

Daisuke felt very strange here, since he didn't know anybody here. He was officially asked by Japanese Ministry of Magic to attend the celebration of the new British Ministry of Magic, because the Minister couldn't come because he was very busy. He walked to the entrance hall and decided to meet the new Minister, hopefully he would be better than BORR.
"Greingoth San. Congratulations." said him when he met the new Minister.

Thalia laughed, taking the offered arm. "Interesting details of my life? Well... there isn't much really" she said, going over things that had happened in her life. "I grew up in a farm like a muggle kid until I was 11... was home-schooled there by Mum where I was introduced me to Quidditch... at the moment I'm practically raising my siblings because Mum's on her honeymoon with her new husband" she said rolling her eyes. She hated her step-father, it wasn't his fault, she just blamed him because her parents weren't together anymore... "So... you said you'd come back from overseas... where'd you go? What was it like?" she asked curiously.

Anytime Lily mentioned any sort of TRAVEL location, Van knew what she was REALLY thinking. Honeymoon.
Yeah he knew.
But he simply wasn't willing to leave the ministry unattended until certain things were sorted out. Soon. Christmas, perhaps. a whole six months after their wedding.
"If you need to sit down, Lil, I'm sure I can keep you company." He grunned at her. Yes he needed to sit. Yes he was too proud to admit it.

Armen was still disappointed he wasn't able to curse the man during their duel in the Atrium and 100% of him wished to trip the guy with his own cane.

"This is my wife, Lilyan Bole." Of course he had to introduce her. Everyone should know Lily. It was like he was doing the world a favour.

Abigail bowed her head graciously as Alexander took his leave. He couldn't stick around and entertain the old woman forever, he was now a very busy and important man now. "I shall be eagerly awaiting." Now, she really should try to sort out her speech again. Perhaps at the tables would be best. Less chance of someone bumping into her there and her knees were beginning to feel the effects of her white pumps.
"Oh leave the poor girl be." Van winked at Abigail almost playfully. Her dress was lovely... and better than some he'd seen already. She was a Bott, was she not? Not that Evander read... gossip magazines or anything. He just KNEW things of that nature. It was his job to be aware of things. Besides. She was a civilian.
HOWEVER.... Legend? Was just scruffy.
"Lysander Jedidiah Hayden Shiloh Merric Chosen." Yeah thats right. "Tuck that shirt in and straighten that tie. You will NOT make a fool of MLE by looking like a scruff."

Watching as Katina walked into the entrance hall, Gavin took her all in. "Wow..." he murmured, a smile appeared on his lips as she noticed him and walked over leaning against the wall as well. "And you look fantastic." he said softly. He couldn't bring himself to wear a suit coat, so just stuck to everything but the coat. The vest and tie felt tight around him, and made him want to make a face at her compliment, but he kept himself from doing so.
She looked comfortable, much more then he was. "Did you want to go inside?"
Katrina blushed at his comment. "Thanks." she said tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Are you trying to kill yourself with that tie?" she joked and loosened it enough, so he had air to breathe. "There. Perefect." she smiled.
Picking up her dress a bit, she noded her head. "Sound great." she put her arm through his and dragged him off the wall.
Oh dear. Noah almost froze when he saw another Ministry employee approach him. A pretty one. He smiled awkwardly, this was going to be painful. She'd most likely walk away once she realised he had trouble talking without stalling at least 10 times.
'Hi..' He managed in a loud whisper.
Sophie was a bit nervous about approaching another unknown nervous colleague. But taking a deep breath, she asked him, "Hi..It seemed so stupid to say Hi two times! "I'm Sophie Diaz from Department of Mysteries... Um.. and you?"
It was good that he too seemed just as nervous and overwhelmed as she was.. The only difference was that Sophie showed on outside as a confident woman.
Then just to initiate some sort of conversation, she asked, "What does your job consist of? Is it exciting?"

Legend slowly pulled off the glasses so he could look straight at the women. "My mother died when I was a baby." He said with a big grin. "And between you and me,-" He leaned in and lowered his voice. "-if she had taught me a lesson about how important it was to tuck in my shirt, I'd be more considered over the fact that like...a zombie was speaking to me." True story, for real.
He looked at Neptune then to the lady. He thought she looked fine- no beautiful. He simply shook his head. The woman was wrong with what ever she was implying. "She looks lovely." He said stiffly.
Legend slipped the glasses back on. "I'll take what you said into consideration though." Not likely. "Thank you Miss..." Again, who were you?

Neptune already KNEW they were at a Ministry function and not a school dance. "I'm aware, thank you. What a keen eye you have."
"Gordic Gryffindor was probably the one who made tucking in shirts cool, and it was probably frowned upon then. And so I have to be a Gryffindor and make it uncool." He grinned. There you go Ravenclaw, some logic...maybe.
Legend's grin grew and he brought his finger to his lips. He didn't know the woman but she looked important! She could get him fired if she knew too much.

Fine Evander. He'd listen to you.

Ah, there were some of their fine coworkers now! Wes smiled as he spotted Legend heading for him and directed Isobel their way. Before he could reach the YATI and his date, however, their path was intercepted by a rather stiff looking older woman, and Wes had to bite his lip to refrain from literally laughing behind her back as she reprimanded the 'fashionable' YATI and his date. HA. Kids these days. Then Van showed up as back-up for the old broad and Wes snorted into his champagne.
"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Bole," he greeted his boss first with a wink. "Cheers to this lovely ball, huh? We have much to celebrate." Peacetime was a good time to Wes.
He turned toward the young things and the old lady and dipped his head respectfully to the girl who had curtsied. "Pleasure to meet you too, Miss.....?" Whoever she was. "And the same to you, madame." He nodded at the representative from America and then winked at Legend.
"Godric Gryffindor did make tucking in shirts cool, but he also hated tuxedos. Little known fact about the famous wizard. Read it on a Chocolate Frog card once." Cough Isobel cough.
