He nodded. Well it was true. And Van was pleased to have questions, it showed that Skander was a good choice for this. He switched files and then passed a sheet of parchment to the man, with the prosecutor job description on it. SPOILER!!: infos He waited for Skander to take a look at it. |
Quote:
Skander reached over and took the parchment off the desk so he could read it easily. His eyes skimmed the page and he stuck his tongue into the side of his cheek as he thought about what he was reading. When he'd first studied law he'd wanted to be a defence lawyer, prosecution wasn't too different from that goal. A goal he hadn't thought he'd reach when he'd gotten into the Ministry in the complete wrong department, even though he'd been happy with his accomplishments in Games. When he was told he'd been transferred into the MLE as a legislator he'd been even happier, as at least he'd be working in the correct department. But this... It may be his only chance to become a prosecutor and Skander couldn't afford to refuse it. "As you obviously believe that I'm capable of doing this job and gaining the necessary skills it would be remiss of me to turn it down," Skander finally said after placing the parchment back on Evander's desk. |

Van relaxed while Skander went over the parchment he was given. He was watching the man closely but also mentally going over the list of who else he had to speak to today. Would he have time for a break to take a few potions and grab a bite to eat? Probably not, he realised regretfully. Well he could be staunch. As long as he didn't move around too much, he'd be fine. When Skander spoke again Van nodded. He DID believe the man capable. "The Ministry will provide all the necessary support. And Of course, Laurie is a font of information, if you can actually get her talking." Van grinned slightly. Laurie could be a little standoffish, but Van liked her anyway. At least she was willing to bury herself ear deep in the heaviest of the paperwork and knock it over in no time flat. She was the Director of Prosecution after all, and led the British Office of Magical Law. It wouldn't be any different for Skander since she was the leader of his office anyway and had been while he was in the Legislator role too. "I'll send more information to your desk. Congratulations, Skander. And thank you for your hard work." He stood up again and held out his hand to shake. |

A second after he finished speaking he stood from his chair and went to leave the office. As good as it was that he'd now gotten a promotion he still had work to complete before he could really celebrate the fact that he was now going to be a Prosecutor. |
Carrying his large cup of linden tea, Ryan Chambers slowly and lazily made his way towards the MLE Department Head's office. Why did the corridors have to be so long? It made him feel like he was walking in the corridors of a hospital because hospitals always had corridors like labyrinths...and they smelled discomforting. At least this corridor had no discomforting smell...yet. Smirking a bit, he halted right before the door to the supposed office and knocked once oh-so-lightly. ''Mr Bole? You are in and about?'' Like not using the toilet or something. |

And another knock? Merlin. He recognised Ryan's voice. "Come in." |
Before he could reach the doorknob, it was already opened by another employee who was most apparently leaving the office. Ryan did not bother to look at the man to make any assumption about what he had been up to inside. He was retiring anyway so anything that would happen in this department did not interest him...unless they would be of his behalf and good use, of course. Good thing the man opened the door for him, also, since Ryan did not want to risk his cup of tea losing its balance in his hand. Giving Bole a curt nod and a half always-cunning-looking smile, he directly went to occupy one of the seats and placed his cup of tea on Bole's desk. ''Nothing is better than linden to remove the unpleasant odours in a room.'' |
Quote:
Van gave Ryan, and his cup of tea, an unimpressed look. "Linden is also a diaphoretic." In other words, it caused you to sweat. Therefore it could CAUSE you to be the SOURCE of unpleasant odours. And actually the reasons to drink Linden tea were alarming so Van gave Ryan a speculative look but didn't comment further. "Can I help you with anything?" |
Quote:
The tea made a loud hissing sound as some white smoke which heavily smelled of herbs started to fill the office. ''Oh, yes. I have come here to discuss a matter of utter importance.'' and he did not need to voice it out that it had something to do with his retirement. ''I was wondering how much Galleons the department is going to pay for my retirement. No doubt you will have or had no difficulty with filling the position i left with some VERY EAGER employee but, as you cannoy deny it, my services at the position had been elaborative and fruitful...or should i say herbful?'' He smelled the thick smoke. Very herbal. ''Don't you think so?'' |
Quote:
Van eyed the cup and the vial in distaste and then with a wave of his hand, no wand in sight, he vanished the whole lot of it. "Don't pull that crap in my office Ryan. You're a civilian now and I could throw you in the cells if you irritate me enough." Granted, this was something that could have happened at any time, but Van had more patience for MLErs. More patience and higher expectations. Also, sore knee meant that he was a biiiit crotchety now. "And, I would say none of those things, as a matter of fact." Merlin. The smell lingered. It was cloying. "And you should refrain from doing so yourself. It isn't a good look, man, and you're lucky I didn't fire you for your attitude towards almost every female staff member we have. You're getting a halfway decent reference from me, that should be enough." |
Quote:
''Well...well...well...Van. What kind of a behaviour is that to a leaving chief officer? Especially to one who now has a family to look after. It is my right in law to ask a compensation for retiring.'' Now smiling a bit he stood up and approached the man looking him in the eye. ''What about the fact of the trusted Head of MLE throwing a retiring employee in a cell for requesting to get what he is guaranteed in law? I think that would interest the Prophet pretty much.'' He was not even mentioning the loss of his precious tea and it being called crap |
Quote:
The Daily Prophet? He'd happily provide them with this conversation, which as with all conversations which happened in his office, were recorded. Blackmail attempts were entirely unnecessary and ineffective. Besides, he was entirely sure that Hunter for one, would have absolutely no tolerance for any sort of tattling from this man. Not if it was about Evander. And she wouldn't be at all afraid to ask Van for more information. "Was there anything else, or is this simply a social visit?" Van asked, casually. |
Summoned to the bosses office. Now, Isobel vaguely remembered something like this happening just over two years ago. Her interview before she got the job. Now, that had been very interesting. But a lot of things had happened in the two years that she had worked for Evander. Iz would like to say that Evander, and her friendship was a lot better than it had been in the past. And on that case, she was wandered towards his office. She really did have no idea why she was being summoned. It must have been something related to the cult downfall. Maybe. Ahh. Here his office was now. Stopping at the door, Isobel knocked on it. |
Quote:
Smirking, he took a step closer to the man. ''I know how powerful MLE became after the fall of the Cult of Walpurgis. But in your glory, you seem to slighty lose the fact that new and more devious organizations might arise and who knows who would provide them some...inside information. So before i leave, i advise you to be kind to your employees at least to balance with the amount of efforts they put in.'' Once the knock came to his ears, Ryan knew it was high time for him to have left. ''Anything you would name it.'' he then replied as he walked to the door. |
lulz *huggles Lara* Quote:
Ryan Chambers wasn't half as smart or devious as he thought himself to be. It was a pity really. The man had had potential... ... even if he was a lazy, sexist, puffed-up piece of work. You could tell, he reflected, that Ryan had not come from a law enforcement background before his transfer. It was clear in his demeanour, and his attitude. And truthfully, had he not approached Evander in the manner he did, Van might have arranged for some kind of bonus pay out. From his own pocket, as he had not so long ago, when the Cult had worked its insidious ways and caused for him to be docked from his own income. Ryan was one of those who had had his pockets lined from Van's personal generosity. In any case, it was Ryan who was rude, and if the man did have enough of an idiot streak in him to try to make something of it, Van had evidence to prove out and out that the man was making a joke of himself. "I would call it a waste of my time and yours. Save the posturing for your new clients, Ryan." And if he came to his senses, and decided to apologise for his ridiculous and borderline offensive behaviour, well, he knew where Evander worked. "Good day." Quote:
"Come in." You know. Since Ryan was.... leaving. For good. |
Quote:
"You wanted to see me Van?" She smiled at him, nodding politely at Ryan |
Quote:
It was true, he did. Van stood up, using his desk to brace himself since his knee was giving him strife. But manners dictated that he would stand for Izzy, even if Izzy certainly wouldn't mind if he stayed sprawled in his chair. "Come in and make yourself comfortable." She usually did. |

"Giving me orders, Iz?" Van DID sit down though, relaxing into the chair with visible relief, and a smile. "Damien's retiring." He cut to the chase. Izzy would know what that meant. |
Quote:
Ooh. So that was what she was here for. She smiled, knowing what it meant. "I see." |
Quote:
"That goes both ways, Isobel. Your head is better?" Just making sure. He knew he wasn't the only one who had been injured during the battle. "You see." His tone was gently teasing and then Van got his 'department head' face on. "You know you did a good job filling in during Damien's leave of absence. You've got the experience, and the know how to take the job, if you want it. And the other Aurors like you and respect you. As do I." She knew that last part. His expression softened into a smile and he idly twisted the wedding ring on his finger. "Do you want the job, Iz?" |
Quote:
It meant a lot to her that Evander thought she'd done a good job when she had filled in for Damien. Isobel liked doing a good job. She smiled back at him, feeling pretty good about herself. Evander didn't even need to ask the question, he probably knew that she'd never say no. "Of course I want it..." She nodded, grinning slightly. She would've been pretty stupid to say no. |
Quote:
"Good, you'll be needing it." New job and all. "Its yours, Isobel. And I better warn you, we've got a couple more YATI due to start soon." It was going to be... a trying time. "More Gryffindors." You know, because Sabel and Legend weren't enough. |
Quote:
Oh new YATI's. Gryffindor Yati's? Isobel laughed, grinning at Van. "Like we need more gryffindors." Sabel and Legend were enough. But she'd manage. |
Quote:
"Should give Emily a heads up." Poor thing. She was getting twice the training having to work with those boys all the time. "You'll put them all through their paces, I'm sure." He grinned, thinking back to their own training. There had been some tough times, but fun too. It definitely built lifelong connections. Even after he'd switched tracks to Hit Wizard, he and Izzy could still commiserate over the training. It really couldn't be found anywhere BUT Magical Law Enforcement. That team feeling was drilled in from the very beginning. Never leaving a man or an Izzy behind and all that. |
