"When I was offered this job," He hadn't really been OFFERED exactly, more coerced, "It was in front of an entire room of department heads along with both D'Isigny's and Gevrik." HE hadn't had a choice. Cade did. "You can choose. I can tell you the money is good. You'll start on 850 galleons a month." Which was almost double what she was currently on. It would be good for her family. For her daughter. "You know IUMO is the biggest and perhaps most diversely focused division in our department, and the role oversees various offices under the mantle of chief. You might find, despite the added responsibility, you'll have more flexibility in your personal life as to a certain degree you'll be able to set your own hours, except when there is a big case that requires all hands of course." But before she'd been one of only a handful in her office, whereas with this role, there'd be people to delegate the extra workload to. He passed her a sheet of parchment with the details outlined. SPOILER!!: Job info "And of course, I'll provide you with the overview of the other division roles and we can work together to analyse where you might need to upskill." |
"Well, I appreciate not being put on the spot while I'm trying to make such a big decision," Cade murmured, leaning forward to accept the offered parchment. She scanned it briefly, but her time in the department left her with more than a passing knowledge of what Mr. Chamber's job responsibilities had been. And there was the added perk of a more flexible schedule and the added money? Cade thoughtfully tapped her fingers on the edge of the desk, her analytical mind running the lists against each other again and again. "I would be happy to take the position, Mr. Bole. I look forward to learning more about it." |

"Excellent. As soon as Ryan has finished up, you'll step in." Van looked relieved that she'd agreed. "And we'll chat more on other upskilling once you have a chance to look over the paperwork. I'll have it sent to your desk." He stood up -awkwardly- and offered his hand to shake. And a pleased grin to boot. |
Never once had he been summoned by the Department Head to his office. After he returned from his lunch break however, Dean saw a piece of parchment left on his desk. He was surprised to see that the note was left by Evander Bole, Head MLE, that the man wanted to see him in his office if Dean was free. Since he had just finished all the paperworks, the patrol officer came immediately to the the Department Head's office. Dean was worried despite appearing calm. Did he do anything wrong? Was he fired? As soon as he reached Mr Bole's office, Dean made sure his dressing was neat. Tightening his neck tie, shirt tucked in, nothing on his coat... He took a deep breath and with one hand firmly holding the note, Dean knocked the office door with his other hand thrice. |
will continue tomorrow when Cassirin posts again to let Dean in as her charrie goes Quote:
Hearing another knock on the door, Van glanced that way. That would be Dean. "Let Dean in on your way out, Caedwyn. And let me know if you need anything else." |
Quote:
"Thank you, sir. You've made my day." She opened the door and gestured for Dean to enter as she left. |
After Caedwyn left and gestured for him to step in, Dean bowed lightly to her before he entered the Department Head's office. Truthfully, he had never felt so nervous. Not even when he asked Chelsea out. Closing the door behind him, Dean remained at the side of the door, waiting for orders. "You wished to see me, sir?" asked the patrol officer politely. Had he have a weak heart, he could've fainted right here, right now. |
Quote:
"Of course, come in Dean." He stood up while the man came in, but sat down again pretty quick. His leg was giving him a bit of grief, truth be told. "Its been a hard road, these past few months, hasn't it?" A conversational tone. Van looked completely relaxed as he switched Cade's file for Dean's and placed it on the desk in front of him. |
Quote:
Oh, Merlin! That did sound like he was going to get fired! "Indeed. It has been one," he nodded nervously, still didn't dare to look into Bole's eyes. His attention caught the file with his name and picture in it. Dean swallowed, just waiting for whatever Bole was going to give him. |
Quote:
"Sit down, man." Really. Half of his employees came in here as if they were still at school and visiting the headmaster, the other half, the veteran types, just waltzed on in and made themselves comfortable sprawling on his furniture and messing up his stuff. Van preferred the latter since if anyone did touch something they weren't supposed to, they'd get a shock or find themselves suddenly glued to said item or various other effects from the security wards. Aaaaand he wasn't gonna continue until Dean sat. Might as well have some fun, since nervousness was coming off the man in bucketloads. Heh. |
Quote:
"Is there anything I can do for you, sir?" he started to talk. Talking usually helped to get rid of his nervousness. In this case however, only some he was able to get rid of. Others was still there, haunting him. |
Quote:
"You know, you're going to have to work on that." He observed. "If you ever get put on undercover work, you'll give yourself away immediately with all those nerves." Really. Van grinned. "And, well if you accept the position of Hit Wizard, undercover work is a distinct possibility." Because we're offering, Benson. |
Quote:
"I see," he mumbled to himself. "I'll try to- No, I will gain more confidence," nodded the younger man with a calm voice. |
Quote:
"You've done well upskilling, these past few months, and learned much on the job. I've heard excellent reports from Wes about you, and observed much myself. We're lucky to have you, Dean." Van shifted in his seat and stretched his leg out, trying to get comfortable. "You know I started my Ministry career as a Hit Wizard?" He sounded a bit regretful. Truth be told he missed it. He missed field work. And now, with his knee... "So do you accept?" |
Quote:
"I accept it," Dean finally responded to the main objective of the note. |
Skander walked towards Evander's office slowly. He was slightly hesitant about meeting with his boss when he didn't know how said meeting would go. He hoped it wasn't for something bad, but one could never tell with all the changes that the ministry was sure to need at this point in time. Upon reaching the office door Skander took the time to fix his tie and compose his features before knocking. He really hoped this wouldn't end with him being kicked out of the MLE. |

"Above and beyond." As in, Dean wasn't JUST doing his job. And that was what Van required. He expected a lot from his MLErs and especially from those who were following his own particular career path. "No need for the flattery, Dean." For one, Evander KNEW his value, for another, flattery did not earn any respect from him. You had to work for that. Which Dean had done even if he wasn't aware of it. "Excellent, I'll have the information about the role sent to your desk. Have a chat to Wes when you get a chance and we'll go over which areas you need to work on." ... and that would be Skander. "Dean, on your way out if you wouldn't mind letting Skander in, that would be useful." And save Evander from hobbling to the door. |
Quote:
"Thank you, sir. I'll talk to Wes when we're free," he raised from the chair and slightly bowed to Bole. "Have a nice day," said Dean just before he headed for the door. As he opened the door, a man he recognised from the coup was standing there. Dean smiled at him. "After you, Mr Skander," he held the door for the other man. |
"Thank-you Dean," Skander said, smiling back at the man who'd been rather enthusiastic about taking people down during the coup. He seemed happy at least which gave Skander a greater sense of ease as he moved into the office. "I heard you wanted to speak to me boss," Skander spoke while walking towards Evander's desk. The man had gone through quite a bit during the coup, but the fact that his boss had been injured actually gave Skander greater confidence in the man. Not because he was hurt but because he hadn't expected them to do something he wasn't willing too. It was a shame though that he was hurt. |
Quote:
"Excellent. You too, Dean." The man would enjoy the perks of the job. More money, a permanent bed at St Mungos... though that one just underscored the danger ouf the job. Oh well. Nothing like being a Hit Wizard. Quote:
"Sure do." Van again got to his feet just out of politeness, though he leaned on his desk as best he could to keep the weight of his knee. "Take a seat." |
Quote:
"Of course Sir," he replied, before sitting in the chair closest to him, and relaxing into it. Although he was unsure where this meeting would go he had experience dealing with Department Heads and so he let that experience dictate his actions. Evander would tell him why he was in the office soon enough and until he decided to do so Skander would appear relaxed in front of the man. |
Quote:
Well Skander was the least nervous so far it seemed. That was good. "Just call me Evander. Or Van. Whichever you prefer." Really. He'd get enough 'sirs' from the new hires that would be starting to join the department any day now. At least until he convinced them not to. It was important to him that DMLE had a close working relationship with one another. That was what made them all so loyal and it was the reason they were all so strong as a unit. "I want to make you an offer." Cutting to the chase. |
Quote:
"What kind of offer Evander?" Skander asked, not hesitating at all to use his boss' name now that permission to do had been granted. His tone was intrigued and he leaned forward in his seat due to his interest. This meeting definitely didn't appear to be one Skander should have been hesitant to have. Luckily. |
Quote:
"You've earned your stripes with us Skander, and I know your interest lies with law. As a legislator you are top notch but I'd like to offer you the chance to join the Ministry Prosecution. We'll provide more opportunities for you to master your craft and cut your teeth." He paused. "The base pay rate is fifty galleons above your current pay level." So that was a good reason to begin with. He cleared his throat and added. "Though, I should point out, that if you ever have cause to ah... discipline the minister with a cane again..." Van eyed his own cane and then the portrait on the wall, which was currently empty, "You take it a little more... easy." It was harder to convict someone when they had been a touch mishandled after all. |
Quote:
"Thank-you Evander," Skander replied, in relation to what the bossman had said about having earned his stripes, and his skill in his current job. "As for moving into Prosecution...Well what kind of upskilling will I need to do while on the job if I take the promotion?" Skander questioned. He was definitely interested in taking the job, but he wanted to know exactly what kind of things he'd need to do before he agreed to taking the job on. |
